I am preparing for my hearing tomorrow, which will determine if I get to play my recital this semester and thusly get to graduate. I have been here long enough and am ready to move on (hopefully to the CP!) and was really feeling great about it all until a few weeks ago when my violin professor started telling me that I wasn't going to pass. I've had many issues with him in the past destroying my self esteem, so even though I'm trying to stay positive I'm messing up on stuff that I know because I'm so nervous in my lessons. I love all you guys over here, and you're such positive people, that I'm coming to ask for some good vibes if you can spare them, particularly at 12:20 pm MST tomorrow when I'll start playing. Thank you all, and I hope I have some good news to report tomorrow evening.

Those who can, do, those who can't teach.

You do all you can do and you will do it great!

And for shame on him for trying to knock down your self esteem. Do NOT give him that power. Take control of your destiny.

What Lisa said. He so not the boss of you. Don't let him in your head. Course I know it is much easier to say that than it is to do it.

Pixie Dust for tomorrow.

Don't let that rear-end orifice get in your way! You've got a life to lead, baby - prove him wrong in the biggest way possible (the BEST revenge!) by doing your best and get out of there!

We'll be through our probably crappy school meeting :faint: by the time of your recital - so I can send my energy out to you - or at least whatever's left!!!! :rotfl:

The very best of success to you!

Self confidence is so essential and listening to the negatives of others is a downer. KNOW that you are the best, and good things come to those who wait !!! It is your time.

REcently I read about a writer, whose professor slammed her work so badly in college that she was totally demoralized and never wrote again for several decades. Finally, for some reason she wrote something, I forget what, and some knowledgable person read it and it was published. After the agent or editor hear the story of the early disaster, s/he explained to the author the likely reason the professor slammed her was because he recognized she had a talent greater than his own and he couldn't bear it. That sounds suspiciously similar, doesn't it?

You go out there. girl, and BLOW THEIR SOCKS OFF! You're good. You know it. Don't let some jealous rat b*stard take away your power!

Sending the power of the PD :wizard:

I so agree with what everyone else is saying. Don't let anyone get in your head and ruin your dream. Take back the control and do what you do.

Best of luck...or break a leg... or whatever is the right thing so say...

Let us know how it goes...

I have to thank you guys so much, because I could feel the power of positive thinking as I went into the room. That was probably the calmest I've ever been in one of those situations, and I could feel it positively benefit my playing. I messed up some things, but I feel like I played very musically and really showed everyone what I can do.

Unfortunately now it is out of my control. Apparently the string faculty has been very disappointed with the level of the recital performances this year, and I'm the first recipient of the backlash. Although in the past when a professor wasn't there they were not included in the decision, now I have to wait for both of the missing professors (which, btw, so unprofessional to not be at something that's been scheduled for a year) have watched a tape of the performance and then they all get together and decide "what the procedure will be from there" as my violin professor told me...twice. I don't even know when I'll know, because one of them wasn't going to be in all week. Also, as a result of the backlash, apparently I was supposed to give a recital worthy performance even though that's never been a standard and was never expressed to me. I feel I did a great job, but I honestly have no idea if it was enough, and as positive as I try to be, I've just been so depressed about it, because I feel that if I fail, it will have not been my fault but will still screw me over anyway.

I wish I had good news, and I will keep you updated over here. I was just so mad yesterday (and obviously still am, my words are coming out dyslexic as I type) but I was so thankful for all the good thoughts coming my way. Thanks everybody!

Please keep us posted (and, you're right, it's completely unprofessional to miss something that has been scheduled for a year).

Yeesh - I can't believe they would do that! But now you have to sit back, try to get it out of your mind, and get ready for the next big thing - Disney! When is your interview? Did you already have it? I feel like you may have said something, but I'm totally blanking right now.

I just had it! Just got off the phone and pulled up the DIS so I could report. I think it went really well, we talked for 32 minutes (timer on my phone) and I remembered to smile as I talked and I think I had a nice balance of being full of myself vs sounding like a human being. ;) I am pretty self confident in all other areas of life besides violin! I talked about how awesome I would be in the dramatic attractions roles and as a PhotoPass photog, so we'll see, hopefully soon!

So, some awesome news, and some meh news.

They finally gave me a decision about my hearing, and I am not up to the level of a master's student, so I have to play a closed recital for them at the end of the semester. This means only faculty, no family and friends to cheer me on. However, I do get to pass and get my degree, and I can plan my own recital after I complete theirs. It was very difficult at first, which is why no update, but now I think I can handle it all.

The great news is that I just heard back from Disney (unexpectedly, I was figuring on a Friday) and I got selected for Transportation in the Fall. I was really hoping for Attractions like Danica or Photopass, but I actually think this will be a lot of fun, and I'm glad that it's a role where I can still wear my medic alert bracelet. And, of course, I have my fingers crossed for monorail pilot! Thanks all for your support during this time, I really appreciate it, and I hope I can meet some of you down there!

All the new CPers! :goodvibes

Since you are interested in monorails, you should drop Disneyland_Emily, she of the 365 Disney Style fame, a PM. Monorails was one of the two places she worked while on the CP (Rock n Roller Coaster the other). I know working monorails didn't exactly match up with her dream, and after having an awesome team at RnRC. I don't know how much things might have changed since then, but I know she's got eyes&ears 'round the property to get the scoop.

And I hear it from my Mom too, but sometimes (a lot of times) working for the Mouse, means getting stuck in a mousetrap. Your managers and co-workers may have different expectations than you do, and it can be a bit eye opening.

So here's to hoping that you (and Danica) end up on a really awesome team, with really awesome people!

Hey- Transportation is like Attractions - the monorail is a cooler version of the TTA! :rotfl:

That's what tech support said...but I've had it open for hours on end on three different browsers. It opened nearly immediately on my roommate's netbook, but I didn't want to bother him by borrowing it for a game!

ETA: I have too much crap on my laptop...I had to restart and then had enough memory for it to load. You still have the top score, by far. I made some stupid mistakes so I might have to try again later!

I just wanted to give everyone an update, now that I'm at the end of the school year. I am having my own recital tomorrow at 6:15pm here in Greeley at a local church that was very sweet to me about my last minute use of their space. I then have to play my program for the faculty on Tuesday at 4:40, after which I should be totally cleared (provided my violin professor actually turned in the results to the comps like he should have) to graduate, which will take place on Friday night at 6:30. I wanted to let everyone here know I am making it through, since you were all so helpful in me keeping my sanity and making me feel good about myself. Thanks everyone, and I expect to see you all down in WDW after I start Aug 30th!
