Mindy - you are not alone!
I just booked this cruise for a Girl Friends Trip
There will be Me (Marie) and my friends Teri, Lynn, Sue and Kim in 2 staterooms.
We are all 50something and live in Northern California, I've been on a 3 day Disney Wonder cruise last September with my oldest son and I'm planning on going on a 4 day cruise this September with family (7 of us). Particapated in FE exchange last year so I'd love to do that as well as a Dis Meet.
Guess we just need to wait for others to join!

We are thinking of booking this cruise. We have been on one Disney cruise (in April on a Mediterranean Cruise). We booked another Disney cruise in Spring for Western Caribbean for our kids spring break, but this weekend were looking at this cruise and sort of interested as our kids have a winter break. We have taken our kids to WDW a ton of times but they have never been to Disneyland and have asked about going there.
So why am I posting - interested in input from those of you that have booked already what you expect of the weather. I've looked online and found this for the average temps -
Mazatlan - 80-82 avg high, 66-68 avg low
Cabo San Lucas - 72-75 avg high, 60-65 avg low
Puerto Vallarta - 77-80 avg high, 60-65 avg low
Los Angeles - 69-70 avg high, 50-51 avg low
so looks to me like if we wanted to spend a few days in Disneyland before the cruise, might be a little cool but not so cold that we couldn't enjoy wearing a sweathshirt. little worried about weather as one of the things holding me back to book. also looked like this might be more of a rainy season in LA too compared to other times of the year - any comments on that? does anyone think it will be too cold to use pool on the ship?
interested in those of you who have booked this cruise already, any comments on why you picked this time of year to help as input into our decision process.

Hello to everyone in this group. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Monica and I live in Mazatlan, Sinaloa Mexico. For anyone on a future Disney cruise to the Mexican Riviera, I am pleased to make myself available to you for any questions about the city of Mazatlan or country of Mexico.
As for myself, I am a resident of both the United States and of Mexico. I speak both English and Spanish fluently and I have sailed on DCL numerous times and have been a lifelong fan of Disney. Let me say right upfront, I am NOT selling anything nor am I affiliated with any business or tour company. I am only here to help and give honest information and opinions in an attempt to make your time in Mazatlan or Mexico a positive experience.
I hope that everyone will welcome me to the discussion and that I can be of assistance to anyone who has a question about my city or country. I will attempt to check the boards once per day, but should I miss a question, please do not hesitate to send me a private message. I look forward to getting to know everyone!
Gracias,
Monica

My parents went on a carnival cruise to Mexico last year at this exact same time and said the weather was excellent. They left from San Diego & said that it was a little cold there, but the entire time in Mexico was perfect weather. We are also planning a stay at DL after the cruise. I expect it will be sweatshirt & jeans weather - but not expecting any "trip ruining" weather.

Ellie!! you will have the best time at "Walt's Park". We usually go to DLR about once a year - I can't stay away any longer than that! The Grand Californian is a beautiful resort - I've never gotten to stay there - but I can't wait until I do. We stayed at the Paradise Pier hotel during our honeymoon - and all I can say is the service at the Disney properties is the BEST! they actually upgraded us for free to the "Malibu Suite". It was awesome!

Looks like we will be with you, too. We have a Cat 9C Gty booked at the moment. There are 4 of us: Dh, myself, 3 yo DS and 1 yo DS (who will be 4 & 2 at time of sailing). This is our first DCL cruise, but we have been on NCL, Celebrity, and HAL previously. In fact, we did this same itinerary on NCL last Nov.
We are also traveling with my cousin & his wife & 2 kids (5 yo DD & 3 yo DS).
We are all planning to do a day or two or three at DL before the cruise. My family went last fall when we did our NCL cruise and spent a couple of days there, but my cousins family has never been. And his wife is almost as much of a Disney addict as I am! :thumbsup2 Plus, I'd really like to see the Colors show they just put in.
I would love to do the FE thing. I just read about it last night and it sounds very interesting and fun -- especially for my 2 little guys! I'm just trying to decide now if I want to try and make my own FE or buy one. Plus what "stuff" we'll bring along for others. I think it will be fun to do roam the ship with the kids looking for the other FE to drop our gifts in. Hope that lots of people sign up for this!

Welcome to so many of you who have also booked.
I was on the DCL site to see what you could reserve and looks like this ship might be pretty well full.
We booked our airfare tonight. Looking to spend a few days at Disneyland before the cruise. Haven't booked a hotel yet for that. Anyone have any opinions on Disney hotels at Disneyland vs other hotels in the area around Disneyland?

When we were there last fall we stayed at the Fairfield Inn located across the street and about a block down from the DL entrance. It was a very easy walk -- even for us with 1 wheelchair & 2 strollers! There were several others that looked just find between where we were and the parks, too. Remember, these are older hotels, so you have to expect some wear and tear, exterior corridors on most, etc., but for $75-80/night (what we pd at FFI), it was just fine. We are now DVC members and are *considering* a splurge at the VGC this time, but not sure if we will do that or not. Personally, I don't think I'd pay the cash rate at the DL hotels to stay there, and I'm a die-hard, stay-on-property person when I go to WDW.
mrosen, I am with you.

Just wanted to comment that you probably will not see the Wonder come in unless you get up REALLY early. Unless DCL does something different than most cruise lines, they will probably dock in the wee hours of the morning. Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but on all my cruises I don't think I've ever been awake when the ship got to the home port. They're usually eager to get there early, get everything cleared through customs, get the old people off and the new people on.
Glad to see this group growing! So looking forward to our cruise!!

We are so excited! :jumping1: We just booked this cruise this week. This will be our first DCL cruise. I've looked at them before, but they always seemed too expensive, but this one with the "kids sail free" promo is very manageable. We are staying in a Navigator's Veranda. Can't wait!!
Now to find reasonable airfare between DC and LA!!

Welcome!! I think this KSF promo made this cruise very attractive.
I also jumped right on finding reasonable airfare. I found some pretty good RT prices flying from East Coast to West Coast and booked the other night as I was afraid prices might go up and didn't think it was likely I would find much cheaper than $300/per person total cost a RT ticket we got.

Which airline are you flying? I've seen some very good fares from AirTran, but I am not a huge AirTran fan as the have a habit of continually changing flights. I'm now debating whether I should take my chances and book on AirTran or wait for Southwest and Jet Blue to release their schedules.

We booked on American. I looked at American and Delta and found rates that were both similar. I looked at Airtran and could have saved a little per ticket ($20). I have no real experience there so opted not to book that.
For us the southwest flight choices wouldn't be so good (2 stops). And I wasn't sure how much we could really save that route by waiting. I never looked at JetBlue.

I made our hotel reservation already. We are staying at the Doubletree in San Pedro, it is about 5 miles from the cruise terminal and they offer free transport to the terminal. Our plan is to arrive in LAX late and take a towncar to the hotel. Then get up in the morning, have breakfast, and get to the cruise as soon as they allow check in.
The Doubletree is $135 a night with a AAA discount. Not sure what the standard price is.

Southwest and JetBlue don't have these dates on their schedules yet and probably won't until Aug/Sep. Not sure I want to wait that long. I did find a flight on Frontier that has a layover in Denver, but flying into Denver in January would leave me a bit nervous. One of the problems we have is that we would like a later flight since DW works Saturday mornings and dosen't want to miss 2 Saturdays in a row.

I understand your concern on flying through Denver in winter. In our case, we are flying through DFW going and through Chicago on return. I didn't want to fly through Chicago during winter but we certainly didn't want to on the way out. We hope we won't have an issue flying home - time will tell if we regret that choice. We had some trouble on the flight times. We had a little more flexibility going as we wanted to spend a few days in Disneyland and we've got a flight that leaves early from east coast and lands in LAX 10:30AM. Coming home, we ended up not being able to fly home day we get off the cruise and are spending night. We considered a redeye but with 2 kids wasn't sure that was the best option so we are on a really early flight out of LAX day after.

Anyone have any suggestions on hotels near LAX? We get off the cruise and won't fly out til the day after (very early flight out). We have to find a hotel for one night after the cruise and as we are flying out of LAX, figure its best to just find something close to LAX that hopefully has some form of transportation to get us to the airport for our early flight.
Going, we fly in a few days beforehand and will stay either at one of the Disneyland hotels or a hotel right around Disneyland so we can spend a few days there as our kids will enjoy this. They've been to WDW a bunch and have asked about Disneyland so this is a perfect chance.

I'm a bit concerned about the flight home as well. I saw I can get an AirTran flight leaving at 2:00 PM, which I think should be fine. The ship is suppose to dock at 9:30. So I would hope we could be off the ship by 11:30. Do you think this is over optimistic?

A 2PM flight time out should be fine. I'm not sure the 9:30 time is when the boat docks vs their published time for folks being off the ship - suggest calling Disney to confirm that.
I called Disney about the times but it was to ask about what time do you recommend for a flight. I actually talked to them twice. First time I called was told their advice is do not book a flight going home til 12:30pm or later when I asked about times out of LAX. The 2nd time I called, I called to discuss what airport they recommend flying out of. While there are airports apparently closer to the port, they recommend LAX and its the only airport they will do any ground transportation to/from. That agent told me she would not book a return flight til 2PM or later. I questioned this for a reasons including how I was told a different time before. The only input that agent gave me was she has flown in/out of LAX before and her concern is the traffic and time to get to LAX and if there is an accident, we could get stuck for sometime on the highway and she wouldn't take that risk on a flight time. Additionally, she claimed going through security at LAX is time consuming given # of travelers. So this was all part of why she felt 12:30 might be too tight vs 2PM or later flight being best.
While the ship says 9:30 deboard time, the process as I understand it is similar to what we went through on the Med cruise we took in the spring. Those with main first dining time will go to breakfast first that morning and have to go early. On that cruise in spring, we had to be out of our staterooms by 8AM and breakfast was like at 7 or 7:30. We left ship right after breakfast after they have cleared customs in port (they announced customs was cleared during our breakfast and some folks got up immediately to leave). Second seating on dining goes next. As they have another cruise coming on, they wanted everyone off no later than 9:30 as they need some time to get ship ready for the next sailing where folks can board starting at 1PM I think. I know on the Med cruise we were on, they announced day before cruise was over if you have a flight to catch by a 10:30, please see them with paperwork to show that as they will work to arrange for you to get off as early as possible.
In our case, we saw a 1PM time to fly home but by the time we finally went to book, the lower cost on the airfare for that leg went alot and our options unless we went to pay more was to do redeye or take early flight out the next morning. We would have booked that 1PM flight home if the cost didn't jump up as much as it did (sigh) so we were bummed when so quickly the low fares for it disappeared.
If you were to call Disney to get a time they recommend to book after, not sure what time you will get since I was given 2 different inputs: 12:30pm and 2PM. I was surprised at the 2PM or later, the 12:30pm or later time didn't surprise me. Regardless, based on what I was told, your 2PM flight should be fine.

Thank you for this info, it is really helpful! :worship:
I did a search of other airports in the area, and I'm actually seeing pretty good deals flying into SNA (Orange County) instead of LAX. It's about 8 miles further, but that's OK. Do you know how much the Disney transfers are? I priced a town car going to SNA and it is about $77. I'm thinking that might not be much more than 3 transfers from Disney. The flights also go through DFW, which I feel more comfortable about than DEN.

Hi, ssawka! I recognize you from the DVC boards. You're avatar stands out with those Mickey Ears! :)
Just logged in to see my reservation -- because I just like to see it there every now and again -- and saw that there are 221 days until we set sail. Good grief that's too long!
DH & I have agreed that we don't really care if we get off the ship or not in most of the ports. Our main destination is the ship itself. I'm sure we'll probably set our feet on the ground for a short while in each place, but we're looking forward to just enjoying & relaxing with our boys mostly.
So, what kind of vaction are any of you looking forward to? Relaxed? Hitting the ports non-stop? Other? Or for those of you who have cruised Disney before, what DCL-specific things are you looking forward to the most?

Things I am looking forward to:
Palo brunch
Character Breakfast
All the shows
Decorating our Door
Being apart of something special that my kids will (hopefully:))remember.

Hello GoofItUp! I'm with you on not getting off the boat, although we probably will. I do want to see the rock formations in Cabo, and I think one of the ports said there were cliff divers near by.
Other than that, we are just interested in relaxing and experiencing a Disney cruise. We have been on other cruises before, but we have not had the opportunity to experience DCL. I always looked and it was too expensive, but with the KSF offer it is very reasonable, especially since we rented our DVC points. :woohoo:

ellie: I had not even thought of going to Palo's for brunch! I wanted to try it, but didn't want to miss one of the dinners for it. I think DH and I might have to schedule a brunch one day, though.
2littlegirls: Looks like our kids are about the same age, but our 2 are boys. They will be 4 & 2 when we go. I think the 4 yo will go to the kids club and be ok, but I'm a little worried about the 2 yo. Not planning to use it much, but would like for them to go while we eat dinner. I can't imagine having enough to rent! We only own 1 small contract (currently) and are scraping points together to make our vacations to WDW work. But, even if I had more points I'd be blowing them on a stay at VGC before the cruise! :rolleyes1

Well we have 275 BLT points, and that is our vacation "budget" for the year, so in order to go on the cruise we rented some of them out. That esentially pays for the cruise with a little left over to put towards airline tickets. We were originally planning on a long weekend at VGC, but when I heard about the KSF offer, I couldn't resist! :yay: I did think about staying a day or two at VGC, but it dosen't fit into our schedule and 8 nights is more than enough time away from home for DD. Now to find airfare!

Just booked a 1br at VGC for four nights after the cruise. They seemed to have plenty of availability. Now I can scratch another thing off of the list. Still waiting for SWA to add flights for Jan and Feb and we still need to book a night near the port for the night before.

The doubletree in San Pedro had rooms for $135(AAA) and offer free shuttle to the port.
I have also been trying to figure out flights but we want to leave Saturday afternoon and there are few afternoon flights from DC to LA. Also, I'm trying to avoid a connection, because all the connecting flight are in "snow areas" (Denver, Chicago, or Cleveland) or only have a 30 minute layover. I guess we'll just have to cough up the $ for direct flights (about $500 a person).

What does VGC refer to? Is that Disney's Grand Californian Hotel or somewhere else.
We are considering staying at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel for few days while visiting Disneyland before we board the cruise. I just called and they aren't taking reservations yet that far out (Sept is what I was told on when to call back). I have a WDW annual pass and planning to upgrade to get dual park annual pass to get the discount for hotel (hoping they will have annual passholder rate on rooms) and also to then get admission for myself into the parks. We'll just then need to get park passes for rest of the family.
I still need to figure out hotel options for where we stay Sunday since our flight home is on Monday. Wanted to find a hotel that is close to LAX since our flight is pretty early Monday. Does anyone have a suggestion?

VGC stands for the Villas at Grand Californian. It is the Vacation Club portion of the Grand Californian. DVC members that do not own there can make reservations 7 months out.

Anyone else anxiously waiting for the Disney port adventures on our cruise? I just checked again this morning and nothing though I didn't expect to see anything before August or Sept anyway.
We did book our hotel for one night by LAX. I was thinking we wouldn't get a rental car for that one day. Once we get to the hotel, anyone know if there is much to do around LAX that we could do easily by cab and w/o a rental car to spend afternoon?
I still need to do booking for a few nights when we go to Disneyland. We are looking to stay at Disney Grand Californian out of the 3 disney hotels but I can't book that yet. Does anyone have any other suggestions of a nice hotel around Disneyland within walking distance beyond the Disney ones that we might want to consider? I am thinking I might want to book one of these now and then when I can book Disney Grand Californian, see what the rates are and do I want to switch.

We plan on staying at the Doubletree and take a shuttle from the airport. Here is the shuttle company I found that I felt was a good price.

Also, anyone heard anything about Stone Island in Mazatlan. I want to try to do it on our own but waiting to see the price DCL offers it at.

I also priced a towncar from LAX and it was about $90 with tip. We will probably go that route as we will be arriving late and I don't want to waste time with a shared van. I just want to get to the hotel and crash so we can get to the ship early the next day.

I think we will be doing the exact same thing if we arrive at night. For your long trip, I think I would just go ahead and pay the extra money for the non-stop flight unless SWA will take you to a warmer connecting flight area.

My dd and I did a mother/daughter trip last January and there were some very nice AP rates. We booked PP concierge for around $220 a night. The PP lounge was going to be closed during that time so they upgraded us to the Grand concierge during our trip! It is pretty quiet at DL in January, so if you want to stay at one of the resort properties, there is no hurry to make reservations. They normally post AP rates 2-3 months out. We are planning on buying the Premier Passports, too during our trip to WDW.

Yes, I am pretty sure we are going to get direct flights, but I want to wait until August. We have a AAA credit card that gives us AAA gift certificates and I can apply them towards airfare.

Good to know about on AP rates. I have to look into over next week or two other hotels in the area to line up a backup option for the few nights before cruise around Disneyland. Then when I can book at Grand Californian, if I get a good rate, I'll switch since I think I prefer to stay there since this is our first time to Disneyland and likely to be the only time we'll take our kids here since we're from the East Coast and WDW is much closer for us.

We'll be flying in the day before the cruise and may stay at DLR for a night if we get a morning flight. We like Paradise Pier because the rooms are a bit larger and it is normally pretty reasonable with AP rates. AP rates have been running around $149 for non-view rooms and it is just across the street from CG. You can book the Disneyland Express bus from SNA and LAX to the resort.

We booked the KSF deal. We have two daugters, Brenna 11 and Erin 8. WE live in Pasadena, about 45 min. drive to Disneyland. Not too much to see round LAX. We have paid our deposit so we are going on our first cruise! The kids free was what definitely helped us get there. For the cruise, myself, my husband and our two boys will be going. The kids will be 13 and 15 so not so much into the character "Meet and Greets" but I am sure they will enjoy it. It is the first week of our son's semester in high school so I hope the homework will work out for him. They said we can get the homework ahead of time. I am sure he will want to go once I tell him about the cruise. I am trying to wait until Christmas time to tell them.
We live about 20 minutes from San Pedro. I was just there today for a dentist appointment but I never go over to the port area. It should be about 45 minutes to LAX from San Pedro I would guess. Security at LAX can take 30 to 40 minutes at times when I have been there on Sunday afternoon and it is always worse on Sunday. Saturday is slower for sure and I have seen early morning flights on weekdays take a long time for security as many business people fly out at 7 am. Honestly the traffic on Saturday is ok going up there so unless there is an accident, it is manageable.
For hotels near Disneyland, there are a lot of locals that like the Howard Johnsons across the street on Harbor Blvd next to Mimi's Cafe. I like the muffins and soup at Mimi's Cafe. Howard Johnsons redid one of the outdoor areas and have a water spray area with part of a pirate ship. You can get the entertainment rate with the card from the entertainment book and it can be a great rate and worth checking out. If you don't see the entertainment rate listed on the website for your dates, you can call and sometimes they can tell it to you on the phone. You don't need to present the card until you check in and it is a generic code SD something. I have heard Candy Cane Inn that someone mentioned is also nice.

We will be joining all of you on this cruise. I waited to post until I was certain we were going on this date (booked 2 dates with the KFMR deal). We are going with some friends (their first Disney Cruise). All of us will be flying in the day of the cruise (unless I can talk DH into 2 days @ Disneyland).
Our cabin Me, DH, DD age 13 (will turn 14 on this cruise) and hopefully a friend can join us (parents still thinking about it).
Friends cabin has 2 adults and a 2 year old (2 months from being 3).
We started sailing with Disney when DD was 5 so we have never used the nursery. How many times can you schedule a child to be in the nursery. If they are 2 almost 3 year's old is potty trained could she get into the kids club instead of using the nursery?
DD's 14th Birthday is on the 31st (sea day). Has anyone paid for the Birthday Banner's through the cruise line and if so are they up on the first day, what does the wait staff do for a Birthday cake (do I need to order one)? Are there Spa options for a teenager? I would like to do some special things for her on this day (especially if no friends can join her on the sailing).
DD is afraid there will not be enough teenagers on board because the sailing is during school. Anyone with a 13/14 year old girl that wants to email and get to know each other before the cruise please send me a PM. We are trying to get a friend to come along but most parents are reluctant to let their child miss a week of school. :rolleyes1

This MR will be our first Disney cruise, so I'm no expert by any stretch but I will try to help. There is a link on the Dis cruise forum home page (it's the 3rd thread on the page) titled DCL FAQS in alphabetical order. Go down to F and you will find much more detailed info with pictures and gift ideas. It's basically something homemade or bought off of Ebay that you hang from the " fish" hanger outside your cabin door. Other cruisers that have signed up in your group secretly leave gifts during the cruise and you leave gifts for them. Gifts range from expensive and elaborate to cheesy(but fun) and silly. It's all for fun and my kids are sooooo excited to start making/buying gifts.
We should probably start a sign up but I don't really feel qualified since this is all new to me too. If no one volunteers I guess I can do it!:goodvibes

We've been in 2 FE groups on our 2 cruises on the Magic.
We have received handmade magnets, scrapbooking items, Christmas ornaments, state items, postcards, princesses & pirate type stuff, glow sticks ~great for the pirate night; highliters for the Navigators, notepads, mini hand sanitizers, zip ties to keep your FE safe at your door, candy, pens and lots more.
I think creative items are fun. I don't want any NOT to participate because it was too much $$ for them.
Our kids loved coming "home" and seeing stuff in our FE. Our kids loved getting the princess pens and have used them at home and remembered they got them on the cruise. I've seen lots of stuff in the $$ Spot at Target.

You can do gifts for the cabin as a whole or each individual, you can drop off gifts one day or every day. No one keeps score and it's totally up to you, the point is to have fun and it definitely should not be stressful for anyone. I also understand the food concern, my son has a life threatening allergy to tree nuts, but I will just go through any candy before he sees it!

We drove around the port last Sunday and it is an impressive sight. My DS(6) was in heaven with the ships, trains etc... I also checked out the Doubletree and It seems like a nice place to stay pre-cruise. I booked the hotel with Hilton points and wanted to be sure the week long parking was included and it is. I had initially asked for the park & cruise and was told the points couldn't be used for that package. I explained about the cruise and was told that parking for the length of the cruise is free for all guests and that the shuttle is also free to all guests. That prompted me to ask "why would I pay more money for a park & cruise pkg if it's all included anyway?". The lady then tells me that breakfast is included (but as a gold member I get that anyway) so she agrees with me that it makes no sense to pay extra for the park & cruise. So, if you have booked the p&c it may be worthwhile to change to a room only rate. You may want to clarify this when you call but I actually went into the hotel and spoke face to face with the front desk clerk and she said that parking and shuttle are free to all guests. I also checked with the shuttle desk and was instructed to call at least 2 weeks in advance to reserve a spot, he said that winter months are extremely busy. I also get over to Disneyland every few weeks and occasionally we stay at the Grand and next month we are trying out Paradise Pier, so let me know if you have hotel questions. I hope this helps, please let me know if you need any more info!

After more research, it seems that the park & cruise is not such a bad deal after all. Since my DH is active military I was comparing the govt rate and the difference was almost $60.00. The difference between the regular rate is $10-$20 (depending on # of people) and if you were planning to have breakfast at the hotel anyway, you may come out ahead a little bit by doing the package.:goodvibes

Stinkerbe11, did you happen to notice if there are any liquor stores within walking distance of the Doubletree or the port? I want to bring some liquor on board with us, I'm just trying to figure out if I need to stick it in a suitcase or if I can buy it there.
Thanks!

Hi again, group. I haven't checked this thread in a couple of weeks and actually had 2 pages of stuff to read through!
Stinkerbe11 -- Thanks for organizing the FE list. I've already got my kids gift picked out. Super-excited to get started on them. I am sort-of making them, but they're still in the fun and cheesy category! I think my ds's will get a kick out of walking around the ship looking for the right cabin #'s and slipping the gifts in the FE. Not to mention checking ours each night! BTW -- I have read that some people just use tote bags and such if you don't want to buy or make a FE. I'm on the fence as to what we'll have...depends on if I have a crafty day in the next 6 months or not!
We were able to squeeze some points out of our DVC usage and are splurging on a few nights in VGC in a studio pre-cruise. I was going to stay across the street again in one of the Good Neighbor hotels, but this will make the whole trip seem a little more relaxing & luxurious, I think.
wuv Tigger - We do need a name for our group. I'll think on this and try to come up with some suggestions.
26 weeks...Still seems like a long time, but hopefully it will be here before we know it!

Ssawka, there are liquor stores nearby, but I wouldn't walk to any of them. The hotel has a complimentary shuttle that will take you anywhere within a 5 mile radius and I have heard from previous cruisers that they have done this from the Doubletree. If the shuttle doesn't work out I am driving to the hotel and will make sure you're all set!:thumbsup2

Has anyone looked at the day trips in Mexico? I saw a lot of choices. I looked at the thread for the group going the week before us for some ideas and some of them were booking horse rides on the beach in Mazatlan with Randy's horses and some other things. Anyone heard what some good things to do are? I know the water won't be that warm in January so I know snorkeling will be out for us.

We are looking to do a whale watching excursion and a zip lining one in 2 of the ports as top candidates. Looked like Disney whale watching one was short enough in time that I was wondering if we could 2 shore excursions that day in port too. We've not finalized our choices for top 2 picks in each port, but I also have one under 12 so that eliminates a set of the ones that Disney has on their web site due to minimum age requirement.
I think some people are booking outside of Disney and from what I've read on these boards, appears it can be cheaper to go that route. I'm inclined to just book my choices through Disney for convenience/conservatism. Also, if there was a delay, the ship would be held for anyone on the ones booked through Disney too.
Besides booking port excursions, still need to finalize our hotel stay before cruise as we plan to visit Disneyland and also arrange for some form of ground transportation so I think I better get moving.

We got RT from our small, regional airport (about 6 miles from our house) using miles & a voucher DH had from a previous trip and only paid $100 total for the 4 of us! We also decided to splurge and stay at the GCV in a studio room with our DVC points pre-cruise. I love having DVC, because I never would have stayed here otherwise but am very excited about it now!! :cool1:

Can anyone reccomend a good outfit to book through? Unfortunately we are not using a TA, and given how quikly the KSF offer went, I'm not willing to risk switching now.

We are planning to use the excursuions that Disney is offering. Our kids like the Resort pool getaway so much in Cabo that we are going to do that one again. We went on the resort's website (Finistrra Hotel) to see if we could save money by just booking a room ourselves. Well, Jan. is high season so, $225 a night for a room. Had it been Summer we could have saved some $$.
As far as the dolphin excursions, try one the other MR boards. No one seems to know much about it here.
Good luck!

Well, I guess that answers that! :) I haven't decided if we want to do the dolphin swim in Cabo or Puerto Vallarta. I think Cabo was longer time with the dolphins and included lunch.
Update: Sorry, got those confused. It's the one in Puerto Vallarta that includes lunch.

Anyone booking excursions/Palo tonight? The window for silver castaway members opens at midnight.
I just finished booking excursions for the 3 ports since the window opened for me too. I was disappointed that the first choice for us on our list in Mazatlan wasn't available to book (no idea why). Should I assume it was all booked up at this point? Maybe there were alot of folks who were high castaway club status and were able to book earlier than the silvers? I had to go to my short list of backups to pick.
And in Cabo, I was hoping to book 2 excursions as we picked whale watching which is only 2.5 hours and we are done before lunch. I've not been able to find a 2nd excursion to book as everything I pick overlaps on time as it looks like all excursions are in the morning. Anyone find any excursions that are afternoon ones or have afternoon choices? Or is Cabo such that we could safely walk around on our own after we are finished the whale watching excursion and find things to do and see that are within reasonable walking distance from the port?

I think Cabo is probably the safest port that we visit and I would have no problem walking around there. This wait is killing me! I paid the cruise off today but can't book anything until the 16th, although all I want to book is the the exotic rasul for me and DH. I considered Palo but my "practical" other half
sees no reason to spend extra money on food when it's already included in the fare. Btw, did anyone notice that the Palo charge has increased? I saw a thread on the boards that starting with the January cruises the price is going up. Oh, regarding formal nights, I am forcing myself to lose 10 pounds to avoid buying new dresses. I have some great formals but I haven't had occasion to wear them since having kids:rolleyes: as far as pirate night goes, we are all dressing up, please tell me you guys are too!

sees no reason to spend extra money on food when it's already included in the fare.
We have our pirate outfits ready to go! (so excited for that night!) We are going to skip palo this time around also. Watching the buget and would reather spend it on a port activity.

Formal nights are very subjective. My DH wears a suit and tie but you will probably see anything from jeans to tuxes. I say as long as it's tasteful wear something that you are comfortable in, it's your vacation and you should enjoy it!

I've been researching a time/place for us to meet and this is what most Disers think is best: Promenade Lounge at 3:00 on embarkation day. This gives everyone time to have lunch, swim etc..and is before the life boat drill. This way we can note any room changes to make sure our FE gifts are delivered to the intended family. I was also considering doing a room tour for those of us who have never been on DCL before. It would give everyone the opportunity to see the different types of staterooms and it seems like fun:goodvibes We are in a "secret porthole" room and I know that a lot of people are interested in seeing what these are like and I would love to check out a verandah or even better, a suite. Please let me know if you are interested in any of these ideas and if you would be willing to include your stateroom on the tour.

Cruise Plans is OPEN for all of us first-timers... I was so afraid we'd have to go with a second choice at least once and we got EVERYTHING we wanted -- shore excursions, spa time, Palo brunch! :D
I am a little confused by the Exotic Rasul, though. I was under the impression it was for two people and it only allowed me to book one person for the reservation. I made it late in the cruise so I can cancel if they won't let us do it together. Disneymoon here we come!!

I got my palo dinner but there was only one time left for the palo brunch on the 2nd day, but I was able to reserve it. It seems like the time is getting closer! The meet up on the first day sounds great. I would like a tour, our room is category 10 so not too exciting but you are welcome to visit.

We got Palo brunch on the 2nd day and I reserved the Rasul too
When reserving the Rasul you only need to list one person because the price is the same whether it's 1 or 2 people, so no worries and I hope you have a great Disneymoon! Also, I would love to see a cat 10 just to compare the different rooms for future reference.

Has anyone been to Puerto Vallarta before? We didn't book an excursion, and I was thinking I'd just like to go to the old section of town and shop. Is the town fairly safe? How are the taxis? I'm a little nervous, but I didn't want to do any of the tours because I don't think DD would be able to do the steps and cobblestone streets, and it dosen't sound like it will be easy to manuever her stroller. I know there are some shops at port, but the Wal*Mart and Sam's Club don't really interest me. ;)

What about checking her into the clubs or Flounder's (don't know how old she is) for the time you're onshore in Puerto Vallarta?
I've never been to any of the MR ports before. We are doing the Coastal Highlights in Cabo, the Salsa & Salsa in Mazatlan, and the Historic Towns/Tequila-making in PV. There's only a couple of excursions that are full, I was really surprised to see that. I guess the ship isn't close to capacity.
Does anyone know if there's a high tea at Palo at all this cruise? I'm just wondering if I should bother trying to get an onboard reservation when we check in or if there's nothing available to book now because it's not being offered.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd feel more comfortable is she was with us if we were off the ship. We have excursions booked for the other two ports, but were planning on leaving PV open. I really just want one day to do all the cheezey Mexican tourist things.

We were in PV last year at this time. We hired a "cab" driver (he had a 15 passenger van) for the day for $100 I think. There were 7 of us. He took us to several of the scenic look outs, some of the traditional tourist spots, and then to a fantastic zipline/restaurant place a little ways outside of town. My mom and I ziplined while the others ate and watched the rock diving in the river beside the open-air seating. The only place we booked an excursion last time was in Mazatlan because I had heard such wonderful things about Mazatlan Frank (which were true!). In Cabo and PV we just found something when we got off the ship. Worked out very well!
We made final pmt yesterday but didn't book any extras. I'm a little nervous about how my youngest son is going to do with the kids club, so I probably won't book anything extra. We'll just enjoy all the regular stuff!

What do you think about meeting up in the port terminal before boarding? I am planning on arriving around 10am but I was thinking of having a DIS meet at 11ish. This way we will have time to do the room tour before the life boat drill and honestly after that I think it's going to be really difficult to meet because of all the onboard activities, excursions etc... If you are arriving at the port later, you can still meet up with us at the Promenade Lounge at 3:00. I figure we will just be waiting around anyway, so why not get acquainted while we wait party:

This might be a dumb question, but having never been on DCL before, are there things that need to be taken care of once you get on board? I know on Carnival everyone had to go and give their credit card info, and we are going to need to speak with the chef at some point about dietary issues, or do people add excursions right when they get on the boat? I'm just wondering if it will be too crazy right when you get on the boat. If not, meeting up will be fine. We are planning on getting to the boat ASAP as we will be spending the night before in San Pedro.

The only things that need to be dealt with asap onboard are dining times/Palo reservations that you may have missed or want changed, spa appts that couldn't be booked online, checking on sold-out excursions, booking wine, beer, tequila and martini tastings and tea with Alice tickets. I was thinking around 3 would be good because it gives people time to eat lunch, make ressies/changes, check out the kids' clubs etc... And it's an hour before the life boat drill. If we meet in the terminal and exchange info there then maybe the 3:00 get-together can be the room tour! Even better, bring a bottle of your favorite liquor onboard and we can do a room crawl :rotfl2: Warning: My favorite is Patron tequila:drinking1.

Do you have passports for the kids or are you using their birth certificate? I'm on the fence with this and need to decide asap what to do. Thanks!
I have all the forms filled out but I should have done it before christmas got here....If I get my act together we will have them but if not, we will be going with birth certificates.

Did you ask Disney if you need them? I made a comment about the bahamas earlier...sorry...i got confused...forgot you were on my cruise. I have been jumping back and forth between our thread and the forum questions. If Disney says you dont need them I wouldnt worry about it or spend the $. More $ for frozen drinks at sea!

DH saw that the prices went up for both Palo meals...now 20 pp. Still worth it!
I spoke with dcl today and they did confirm for me that formal night is on the 2nd night, 4th night Pirate and 6th semi-formal. I was able to request my dining rotation! I feel all settled now:mickeyjum.

For CON5421- We are doing the Whale watching excursion in Cabo through a tour company and Los Calietas (SP?) with DCL in PV. We are still nervous about getting off the ship in Mazatlan. They had a travel advisory awhile back. I don't think it is very safe there. :scared1:We changed our minds 10 times about what excursions to do! Finally settled on these. It is a lot cheaper to book off site. It looked like all excursions were still available yesterday except for 2.:thumbsup2

Yes, passports are very expensive. Just think...now you need to get you money's worth out of them! Sign up for another cruise while onboard! LOL.:thumbsup2 I think we are going to sign up on the DREAM! I am glad you have your passports, too. I would have worried if I didn't have them (if I were you).
I have all my FE gifts bought...now just need to finish making some of them!

Fortunately, DD is still good, but it will need to be renewed after this trip. The renewal process always scares me because you need to mail the old one back to the feds. It's a hard concept since you are so protective of it when travelling.

We got this credit, too! Showed up on our cc stmt. I thought about calling to ask what it was for, but I'm not that brave. Just in case it's a mistake I don't want to call it to anyone's attention! ;)
I officially moved my boys shorts into the storage drawers today. I think it's really too cold now for us to get to wear them. But I did put them in an easy-to-get-to place so I can get them back out next month! :cool1:

Only a few days until Christmas and we are telling our kids that day about the cruise. They have no idea that we would ever go on a cruise so I have to video it. I have some clues that I found on disboards.
We booked a tour for Mazatlan but not through the cruise line and then are booked for Las Caletas in Puerta Vallarta and may just wing it in Cabo. What excursions has anyone else planned on? Has anyone been to Las Caletas before?
We leave for the cruise in just a little over a month!

We are doing Las Calietas, too! We booked a whale watching tour (not through Disney) for Cabo. I really want to go to Stone Island ( I have read awesome things about it on Tripadvisor). Apparently you can walk there and take a 2.00rt water taxi to this beach that has restaurants right on the water. People have given it great reviews and say you can eat and drink all day for cheap. They have beach chairs and nearby rentals for ATVs, banana boats, etc. I really want to do this, but am a little afraid with the travel alerts out. :)

The way we have worked it on our past two cruises is one days worth of FE gifts. You get something for each cabin. With 14 cabins for a 7 day cruise you make a schedule and 2 people deliver gifts each day. That way you get two gifts each day but only deliver one time if that makes sense. Usually people deliver a few small gifts or one larger gift. Things like magnets, ornamaents, princess toys, stickers, pirate stuff, etc.
