View Full Version : Breakfast Confusion
Trying to Plan
03-02-2010, 12:54 PM
Hello. Planning our first trip to Disney and have questions re dining. We are going to get the dining plan but don't know whether to do Deluxe or Basic. I am worried Deluxe will be too structured with two kids (9 / 13) who will want to park see but I am also worried the Basic won't be enough food. We are typically a "three meal a day" family.
What do other families who are on Basic do for Breakfast? Do you modify your eating times to only use two meals a day? Pay out of pocket? Bring from home? If you bring from home, what types of ideas can you give me for breakfast you make in your rooms?
Have enjoyed reading all the posts on here. Sure have helped my planning!!! Any advice would be appreciated.

Good Afternoon!
We are a family of 6 (including Grandma). Our children will be 8, 9 and 12 on our next trip. We have found that the basic plan ( 1 table service, 1 counter service, and 1 snack) is enough. we normally do a buffet for breakfast or dinner and then eat the counter service meal wherever we happen to be in the park. I have found that it may be too much food. No one ever complained that they were hungry and alot of the time there was still food left on our plates.
Have fun planning!
Kim
We pay out of pocket for anything the basic plan doesn't cover.

the regular plan was more than enough food. This is what we did. Instead of wasting a counter service on your breakfast, we went on a quick trip to a grocery store before arriving at Disney and picked up some breakfast food such as pop tarts, donuts, cereal, cereal bars, milk, etc..... This allowed for a quick breakfast before heading to the parks and it was something the kids could take along on the way. Between getting the kids up early for the parks there really is no time to eat a big meal and it was enough to hold them over.
Also eating too big a meal in the morning isnt for everybody, i found it made me very sluggish & tired and did better eating my meals at lunch & dinner. Luckily i only booked one breakfast last trip.
Around 11:15/11:30 we would head to a counter service to have our lunch which was a great time to go and use our counter service credit. It was more than enough food for me and even took a few bites of dessert. It held us over until dinner time when i would make early reservations around 4:30 or 5:00 where i would use our Table service credit for dinner. There were days i didnt even use the snack credits because we ate so much so i just accumulated what we had and got some goodies to take with us home.

we do basic and find its more then enough food,
we do lighter on the go breakfasts like a bagel and fruit
we find US food portions huge
so we are able to split some counter service meals between us too to cover breakfast.
the first year we got 2 chicken and rib meals at cosmic rays it was to much food for the 4 of us we took our dessert to go.
we always have lots of snack credit left too

We also do the basic dining plan. If we don't have a breakfast buffet scheduled we just pay for breakfast out of pocket at the resort or in the park.
In the past I have brought items from home to eat for breakfast. Muffins and such. Another option for breakfast, if your family is cereal eaters, is to contact one of the local grocery delivery services and have milk, cereal, etc delivered to your resort. I believe all moderates and deluxes have a fridge. I also think you can rent a fridge if you are in a value resort.

We are also on the Basic Plan. we are using garden grocer.com for breakfast foods such as oatmeal, cereal, milk, bananas. We are also going to use our Snack credits to get pastries from MK's Main St. Bakery. I started to book ADR's and with the basic plan, am already wondering if it's going to be too much!! Have fun planning!!

We usually get the Basic Plan and it is enough.
I use a snack credit for a muffin in the morning or I purchase
a muffin OOP. I always buy the refillable mug and can fill this
with either coffee or tea for free. This way I use up all of my snack
credits and won't have any left at the end of the week.

If I don't have room in the suitcase, I order breakfast foods from gardengrocer.com - things like granola bars, fruit cups, milk, cereal, etc. I also order a case or 2 of water so that we aren't paying OOP or using snack credits on bottled water.
You also can specify adult beverages on the order form, so it's nice to have a 6 pack in the fridge that didn't cost you your first born.;)
