I was just looking online to see how much some of my college text books are going to be for this upcoming semester. I don't know why I am surprised. I guess they aren't all that bad since I have had books cost over $100.00 a book before, so $50-70 a book isn't all that bad. I just wanted to complain. One class I have 3 separate books for, and none of them are those cheaper companion to the big book books, or work book kinda books. Nope, they are all empty the checking account kinda books! I have only been able to find the books for 2 of my classes so far (but that is already 5 books), they were listed on the online syllabus. The other classes have yet to give any info out. I could go to the college bookstore and see them for myself, but that would be a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry long drive seeing as how I am about 1300 miles from school. I could have ordered them online throught the school bookstore, but I guess that deadline ended since school starts so soon. I have scholarships to pay for tuition, but books are an out of pocket cost since class starts before reimbursement happens. Can't wait to get that big fat living expenses check in the mail. Thought I might save some of it for a nice Disney vacation!

I just picked up a biology book yesterday to the tune of $101. OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I'm not even dealing with the biology book for those going into a medical field of some sort. I can only image what they pay for theirs! I need to get psych tomorrow since they hadn't stocked them yet. And English I won't know until the first day of class. Being that it's English 1102, I'm hoping it's the same book I had in English 1101. Not everything in the book was covered before.

This will be the first year in a long time that we don't have to buy text books for ds, those artsy type books are expensive :)

Hope you get that check soon!

I'm in Engineering and am taking 6 courses, so it'll be a lot, that's for sure! I've had text books cost up to almost $200 each. Usually they're closer to $120-130 though. Also, we're the last class of my discipline, so I'll be stuck with all my books, I won't be able to sell any of them used to the next year's class and get some money back.

Even worse than the thought of the cost of books though is the thought of taking six forth year Engineering courses. Oh my. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/eek.gif (I think I'm going to miss having a life http://www.plauder-smilies.de/laugh.gif )

I too have 6 classes lined up for the fall semester. Havent gone over to the bookstore yet though, still dealing with the sticker shock of buying all the back to school stuff for DS.

I have 5 classes this semester and haven't even checked out my book costs yet, but have you guys checked half.com? They are way cheaper than my campus store.

YIKES!!! I remember my friend had to buy a math book. About 12 pages thick and 60 dollars!!! Couldn't believe that. Thankfully, most of my books were only about 30-70 bucks each... Not too bad, but hated those odd hardcover texts that would be hundreds of dollars. Shessh.

I just bought mine for law school this morning. Luckily, I know someone who works in the book store & she told me the books were in & they had used books for most of the 1st year classes. Still, I paid $400 for 4 classes worth of books & I only got one new one!

I'm glad my mom got me one of those rolling backpacks. It was alot easier on the back than carrying the bags around. I highly recommend getting one if you have alot of books to schlep around.

I saved all of my books. DUMB IDEA! I haven't opened them once since graduation!! Trade them back & get a little dough back!

You may not need every book on the syllabus. Wait until the first day and see which books the professor is only going to use for a week or two. See if you can borrow those from friends instead. You could save a lot of money that way, I did, especially in engineering, where all the books are $100+.

I was just thinking about this myself. I have 7 classes this semester. The bookstores opens on August 6th. I can't wait to find out the grand total of my books this year!!

The other day it was $101 for my biology book. Today I got my psych book. Only new ones in the shrink wrap were available. It was $96. Ouch again! I don't remember what I paid for the algebra book. I got that a while ago.
