As of now for our June trip (2 adults, 2 kids staying at AKV), we are on the standard DDP... but in the last 2 weeks we have added 2 Boma breakfasts, Plaza Rest and still have another dinner we will have to pay OOP... the difference between the plans for our 11 nights is about $700.
Figure the 2 Boma breakfasts and Plaza will be about $180, the other dinner could be a $20 offsite fast food or an onsite TS.. cost of the 4 mugs is another $50, so right there the additional dining expense will be $250, closing the gap to $450 assuming we do a fast food offsite..
We are currently planning on eating in the room for about 7 of the 11 mornings, might be nice idea to just get up every morning and grab a quick breakfast at Bomas, perhaps a time or two at another sit down..
Heck, wouldn't take too much arm twisting to do a dinner show or a signature or two...
Oh, my head hurts!!! :cool1:

:rotfl:This is how my DH and I ended up deciding to do Deluxe, we had so much OOP and then we started thinking about how it would just be a little more, and then our (well my, he doesn't eat them much) Breakfasts would be covered etc.... We listed all the places we wanted to eat then added up the credits, and then decided we just had to have the Deluxe. I blame all the dining reviews :rotfl2:

My husband and I do deluxe because when we are home, we are "foodies". So, when we go to Disney, we continue on that.

I've looked at the numbers. I would switch at the point where we would use 2TS credits per day. We usually end up averaging 1.5 per day. (ie paying OOP for 4TS on an 8 night trip)

A big selling point for us doing deluxe is the appetizers for adults. Many of the nicer restaurants have great salads or soups plus mussels or cheese trays. My kids love to eat appetizers way more then kids meals.
We figured for about the same amount we could do character breakfast everyday plus enjoy signature restaurants.

Am I reading this right that the deluxe plan is the same price year around, unlike the standard that is more during peak times?????

Correct. Only the basic DDP has seasonal pricing, which is new for 2010. QSDP and DxDP (and Platinum and Premium all-inclusive packages, for that matter) are the same price per night for any time of the year.
To the original poster: as far as I'm concerned, budget permitting, I'd be starting under the assumption of DxDP and working backwards (i.e., at what point would I choose to downgrade?). It's all a matter of personal preference and style.

I would never use the deluxe plan, but I am one person and I don't think it's necessary for me. It sometimes doesn't fit my ordering style anyway as I like the option to order in combinations other than appetizer, entree, dessert.

This is why we decided on Deluxe DDP for our upcoming trip! We figured out our costs OOP would be close to $400 without appys and a cs breakfast here or there... Since moving to deluxe was $600 more we just did it and now have more sit downs and appys (which my hubby LOVES to order no matter what anyway).

I am 95% sure we are going to do it, but what the heck will we use 88 snack credits on???? WOW
Only down side is that the trip was basically paid for, now we need to squeeze another $500 into the budget, but still have 3 months to take care of that..

To curb costs and unneeded extras we are opting to do a split stay. 5 nights on the deluxe at WL getting the GC and then doing 2 nights OOP trying POR. Since we have the GC for food those 2 days and will have lots of extra snacks left over it always us to do all the Character and Signatures first and then have 2 days of flexibiliy to CS or whatever without feeling like we are wasting credits.

We first decided to try the DXDDP during free dining. We figure we'd give it a try while it was 1/2 the price. And as a PP has mentioned the ? would be when would we downgrade? NEVER unless it just wasn't in the budget. We do serveral 2TS places so that eats up our TS credits after 3 nights. Plus we enjoy taking a break for an hour during the day to sit and relax. Yes it's a lot of food but you don't have to eat it all. We enjoy trying new things. My DH would rather downgrade our resort then his meal plan.

Now we are thinking about switching back to the standard dining plan... :)
Reason being, with kids, have 3 TS meals a day, especially at the lunch time, really locks us into a set schedule, at least with more of the CS we have a little bit of the flexibility... And with only 2 signature dinings in our plan, we have mostly 3 TS per day..

I asked a similar question yesterday "Deluxe Dining or Deluxe Resort" and many of the answers and opinions revolved around this. In their opinions, DxDP means a lot of running from one restaurant to the next and less time to be spontaneous. For me, getting to EMH rope drop is very important, so the lengthy characters breakfasts were not going to work anyway. You might want to check out the other thread for more opinions.

I think it's what works for you and your family as well. I mean me and my DH are foodies. As well as our oldest DD. She loves trying new places. We look through our books and have her pick out places she wants to go. SHe gets so excited w/ all the places we eat. Don't get me wrong there are times that we have and ADR and cancel it and just grab something instead.
Last year we saved over $800 on the DXDDP. However we got it at 1/2 price. Seeing it's $600 more for us I figure paying full price we'll still save $200. We just like having the option to eat when and where ever we want w/out worry. Plus the fact that it's paid for really helps!
