Can any of you tell me some good books or where I can find something regaurding small children and divorce???
My divorce was final last month and I have a 3 year old little girl and it finally hit me today some of the things she has been doing lately is probably a result of her daddy not being around!! (He doesn't come around much at all)
So anyways I have been searching all over the internet today hoping to find some good books to read with her but I would really like some hands on experience from some of you!!
I want to now that these books, etc., are age appropriate and really do help the children and me to cope!!!
Thanks guys!!!

Your daughter's pediatrician may be able to recommend something.

Chrissi,
I don't have any books to recommend (although I'm sure there are probably some good ones) but I did want to give you a {{{hug}}} and tell you to hang in there!
You're a great mom so trust your instincts! I'm hoping you and Julie have as easy a transition as possible to your new life.
I'm always a pm away if you want a shoulder to lean on.

A friend of mine had a book for her daughter called "The Dinosaurs Divorce." I can't vouch for it myself, but she said it was really good and helped to explain things to her daughter (a 4 year old.) I hope this helps. Good luck.

I have the When Dinosaurs Die book and highly recommend it. I would imagine the book on divorce is equally as good. It may be a little bit advanced for a three year-old, but what it nice about these books is that you can pick and choose which sections to read. Its a more a straight forward explanation of what a divorce is and how the child might be experiencing it, rather than a story. Very cute illustrations!

On the link I posted above, you might also want to check out the "bn.com customers who bought this book also bought" section.
Good luck to you and ((((hugs)))).

I purchased a book for a coworker two years ago in preparation for the ordeal. I remember I did a search on amazon.com and there were a LOT of suggestions. I sorted the results based on feedback and chose accordingly.
There seems to be a lot of books written based on age so you should have plenty to choose from!
Best of luck to you!

Thank's everyone for your imput!!
M's thanks for bumping and Bet your the best, not only a PM away but I could drive over that bridge and find you....no i'm not a stalker!!!
I was able to get a couple books tonight.....The Dinosaurs Divorce (which was mentioned) and Mamma and Daddy Bear's Divorce!
My personal opinon is that the Dinosaur one seems a little advanced for even a 4 year old but there are a few good points in it but for the smaller kids definitly the Bear's worked for us, it gets to the point, keepd her attention (whatever a 3 yr old can have) and she was able to give me feed back and understands what divorce is, well that when Daddy lives somewhere different from her and Mommy but that is good enough for me1
I was also able to reinforce the fact that no matter what we both love her and it's not her fault!!!
So thanks everyone and if you can think of anything else let me know!!!

I'm glad that you found one that worked for you! The Dinosaur book might come in handy as she gets older.

No....M's as far as she is concerned I have instilled in her that her Auntie Chris hate's her, can't stand her and never wants to see her again!!!
Now if you believe that let me sell you this trailer in Pinellas Park!! hahaha
No in fact she and I were talking earlier and she wanted to call her dear Auntie Chris at work and when i told her no she said "why? cause her makin' the money?"
and you know me I told her yes, so that she can buy you so many nice things, so be prepared M's she will be asking for something soon and it's gonna be big so save your money!!!!
Maybe she wants a trailer??????? rotflol
Love ya M's!!!

Also look for "I Don't Want To Talk About It!". I can vouch for this book...it's not condescending. The child in it is young and it shows how she responds in language and action that a child can understand. Things like "I'm so angry I want to roar like a lion".
It helps show children that what they are feeling is normal and okay to feel.
I have been going through this with my DD this year. Some days are good, some days are bad. I found it didn't really hit her until about 2-3 months into things (she's 6). In fact, she's having a harder time of it right now that she did initially because of other life changes (new school in the fall, leaving daycare) that had been so stable all these years. Keep an eye open for that and be there for her!

Christine, please don't whine, if you didn't see this coming you should never have told me that Chrissi was being mean to you. ;) :teeth:
