I know some of us start putting aside items in a vacation box for our trips. I started mine yesterday!!

So far it has:
Purex laundry sheets
Dryer sheets
Tiny bottle of Shout
tiny bottle of Febreeze
tiny bottle of dish detergent
some dishwasher detergent

first aid items
chapstick with sunscreen

Items I'll add later:
Ponchos
mini fans

What's in yours?

OMG, I have been throwing stuff in a box for 4-5 months and we don't go until June :lmao: I have in my box:

outfits that I have bought for Disney (me, DS, and DD..DH is on his own)
new socks and yes undies
swim wear
ponchos
chapstick
moleskin
deoderant
bandaids
mini fans
batteries
sharpie markers
Tylanol
neon glow sticks
beach towels
Koolaid packs (for the water bottles)
sunglasses

and I am sure I have forgot something in that list. I mainly throw stuff in there so I will not have to look for it later, like the kids sunglasses, they will throw them everywhere.

Also, I just ordered me and DS some new Crocs online and I got DD some new flip flops and tennis shoes so we can get them broke in before we leave;)

What a great idea....to start a vacation box! I was at the Dollar Store today and came across some laundry bags, over-the-door shoe organizers, and glow sticks, but I thought it was too soon to start buying things for our August trip!

I saw in various places on the Disboards that people bring laundry bags for dirty clothes to keep the room more organized and clean. Never thought of this before, but it's a wonderful idea. Does everyone use the nylon laundry bags? Do you do laundry at the hotel before going home?

Thanks for starting this thread. It's sure to give me more ideas!

I started my box last night....

I went to Wal-Mart and in the kids party favors section near the greetings cards they had these short little pink light up wand thingy's with a globe on the end. Inside the globe was a glittery disc with Princess written on it and when you press the button it lights up and spins. They were $3. I bought two one for my DF's Niece and one from my friends little girl. These are for our vacation starting in July, much cheaper than the Disney fare.

So the only thing I have in my planning box at the moment are these two light up wands.:wizard:

My box has been in my closet since we came back from WDW. I trow in any free samples I can get my hands on and cheap little goodie toys I think might be a hit. Now that it's getting closer, I throw in snacks I get on sale (if they are in the cupboard they will get eaten!) and I got T-shirts and sweatshirts when they were on clearance.

What's in everyone else's box????

I use the handi wipes that are anti-bac. That way I can clean off the yuck from the CS tables too.

Our trip is in just a month and I've just started.

If I may, what is moleskin?? Notepads?

Moleskin is this great sticky stuff for blisters prevention. It's sooo much stickier than a bandaid and will not shift in your shoes. I know where my blister-prone spots, so when I get up in the am, I go ahead and bind them up with the mole skin. I think i get the band aid brand. You do need scissors to cut shapes out though. It comes in a big square sheet.

The shoe organizer is for the bathroom. You hang it on the door to the bathtub and store all your countertop items on it. With 4+ people in a room trying to get ready at one sink, the mess can really pile up.

love this thread - please keep it active.

My 'box' is a soft cloth sided large rectangle which will fit on the top shelf of the closet when we finally get back to WDW. I bought it on sale from Lands End on-line.
I took a Mickey stamp and ink stamped red Mickeys on the off-white sides for decorations. There is yellow trim on the 'box'. We will bring our box with us to use in the resort room closet.

So far I have only zip lock bags to use during the summer rainy days.
I will start to add items per this thread.

Thanks!

Love, love, love these! They're in my box now!

These Table Toppers are great for babies who don't cooperate with bowls/plates yet, and moms who don't want their babies eating off of the table. I've also seen them in a plastic dispenser similar to a travel wipes dispenser. I've only seen the Sesame Street version at Target and Babies R Us, but apparently they make Pooh and Friends!

Love this thread! I didn't even realize that I have been collecting things here and there and just shoving them in my closet! I'd rather make a nice official Disney box so it all stays organized!!
Some of the things I have or that I would include would be:

Air freshner/febreeze (I like when things smell really good!)
Pop Up Hamper
Over the Shoe storage
Similiar to the shoe storage, there is that stackable bin thing that hangs in a closet. Can't think of the name of it, but I have one. It collapses though so its easy to pack, yet it provides a lot of extra storage for clothes! You can put each outfit of the week in one section :)
Snacks-Chex Mix, Pringles, Granola bars, pop tarts, cereal
Magazines
A little first aid kit
Extra brush, old hair straightner, curling iron, toilettries, etc.
Glow Sticks
Tape
Stuff to decorate the room with
tape
Extra Power Strip
I know theres more! It's getting late though and I can't think ! :surfweb:

I'm suprised no one said mugs!?
I save those trip after trip until they're too worn out and I have to get new ones lol..

So far this is what is in my Mickey tote bag for the trip:

*5 boxes of Disney fruit snacks
*Campbell's Disney soups
*my hipster bag for the days we'll be doing a lot of walking
*hangers with clips for drying swimsuits
*an over the door organizer
*a giant Mickey pen for autographs (found at Dollar Tree)
*autograph book (it's actually a Disneyland Paris one that I found brand new at the thrift store for 80 cents, LOL ~ the only signature in it is Mickey on the first page)
*some Disney game books and the Disney Scene It cards for passing the time,
*glow bracelets from Dollar Tree
*some Monsters, Inc. sandwich bags for odds and ends (just bought these because they were cute, LOL)
*Alice in Wonderland book from Dollar Spot at Target which I will be asking Alice to sign for DD15.
*a small tension rod for extra hanging space in a doorway (saw that tip here on the Dis and it is a good one!)

I'll be keeping up on what everyone else is taking and adding things in that seem like a good idea for us ~ so many good ideas here! :goodvibes

We are not going until the fall but I have already started to make lists of things to be picking up as summer approaches. Well, I don't have an official box started yet but I do have a few things put aside. Since our trip is a surprise, I have been putting stuff in a drawer to give them as we are driving there. I have some freebies I got online...1. a set of luggage tags with my DD and Belle on them..2. A set of personalized maps of the parks, and I am waiting on a photo book of our day in Epcot last year. It's a start!

Wow, I guess I need to start a box... we go in May!

So far I just have sunblock for DD  Well, I have a few things to make a book (stickers, clear sleeves, binder, pictures) for DD for when we get there to show her all the things that we're going to do - she doesn't know about the trip.

On my list to get:
ponchos
fan spritzers
baby wipes
snacks (granola bars, fruit snacks, water, fruit...)
band aids/neosporin/aspirin... for me and her :thumbsup2
glow sticks
sharpies
autograph book

I'm sure I'll add more things as I find them!

And to think I thought I was the only nut that does this!

We have a laundry basket with:
some travel size toothpaste and floss from our last dentist visit
little hand gel, shampoo, etc
plastic baskets to hold various stuff in out room
stroller rain cover, stroller gate check bag
various plastic zipper bags to pack in (like the ones sheets come packaged in)
travel sized tubes of motrin
disney hair bands
a 6 pack of water (we had a great coupon, we'll add more later)
bandaids, blister pads, blister stick, neosporin
mini fans
a roll up cosmetic bag to hang on the back of the stroller
sharpies
heavy paper towels that I made into pre-soaped disposable dishcloths
My Minne Ears headband, Bianca's lime green Mickey ear hat!

We go in June (after a few warm months at home) so I can't pre-pack clothes- last year we went in May so I felt confident pre-packing bathing suits and a selection of summer outfits since we didn't need much before then.

I'll keep an eye out for sales or coupons and add Gatorade G2 packets, Propel packets, granola bars, dried fruit, ranch dip cups, snack packs, etc as I buy them.

I wont repeat all the previous posters' lists as mine is fairly similar. What I did add this year is a waterproof "phone" holder on a lanyard which I bought off eBay for the waterparks to keep my KTTW card, a bit of cash and can also fit in the phone or something else if necessary. Don't like leaving stuff lying on the lounger when swimming - even at the resort.

I also always take a couple of drying up cloths and some cheap dish cloths pre soaked in washing up liquid, dried out and placed in a ziploc bag. I always use these to wash our refillable mugs in the room as rinsing them at the foodcourt doesn't get the smell of the previous drink out of it.

03-14-2010, 02:19 PM
Oh, just remembered to add:

Always take ziploc bags and one or two small sealable plastic containers. DD often doesn't finish her food and is then starving an hour later so I put the leftovers in there if they are substantial and at least I know they won't mess in my packpack. :goodvibes

Oooh, DIsney Tattoos! Thanks, I remember DD getting them at the resort and they only lasted a couple of days with all the swimming (and the likes of Kali River Rapids :rotfl2:). It really adds up over the time you're there at $6 a pop!

Does anyone know if you can take glo sticks in your carryon on the plane or if they should be packed in the hold?

We just threw them in the bag (no zip lock)...
Didn't have any issues....not sure if its because the necklaces/bracelets don't have ALOT of fluid in it. If you have room in your zip lock then i'd throw it in. If not, i wouldn't worry about it too much

I couldn't resist when I saw some of these items on clearance and knew we'd be able to use them for our trip. I've got:
Glow bracelets, swords and wands, etc.
Disney Pirate tattoos for DS.
Hair glitter for DD (and maybe me).
Water Shoes for the water parks ($2 a pair, woo hoo).
Rhinestones to decorate DD's visor.
Disney Cars and Princesses sandwich bags.
Purex laundry sheets.
Backpacks.
Guide to the Magic books.
Epcot Passports (love the talented folks on the DISigns forum)
Ponchos.
Disney Princess chapstick, notebooks, pens.
Sharpies.
And probably a lot more...

I found the Disney POTC tattoos on clearance after Halloween, so I doubt you will be able to find them now...They were individually packaged to hand out for Halloween.

The passports I can help you with. Do a search for Epcot Passport designs. Tons of folks on the Creative Disigns forum have designed their own passports. I liked donatalie's the best. I copied and saved them, then went to one of the photo-book sites (I forget now which one) and created a 4X6 photo book with them. It didn't save me anything (still cost me $10), but I could personalize them for the kids and liked the colorful designs more than the ones sold at Epcot. They came out perfectly.

HTH!!

As my DH lost to bring baseball caps - we bring some of the single suction cup hook to hang his hats on. Especially helpful when you wear a hat in the pool. DH has disney suitcase:
Hats & Sunglasses
Sunglass holders - case or neck string
batteries
charges
power stirps
Suction cup hooks - 3 minimum
Shower Caddy
soap dish - he likes his own
moleskin chaffing cream
ear drops that dry water in the ear
ear plugs
bathroom spray
small flashlight
Gold Bond power for feet/shoes
rain coat/poncho
a "magic towel" from the disney store in case need to dry feet or cool down.
Have given 1 or 2 away to others after the Kali Rapid ride!!
The card holder for fasspass & room card
Lanyard

Just remember, you can also leave something out if need be but hope it doesn't become I wish I had....!

OK, where do you find the misting fans at WM? I looked for them last night and couldn't find anything. Are they just not out yet since it isn't summer yet?
I just saw them at KMart in their summer section the other day!

I found mine near the home improvement section - lightbulbs, furnace filters and paint - nowhere near the summer stuff. :confused3 I thought it was a strange place for it, but whatever.

It is possible that they simply don't have them out yet. I would think they would start selling them soon, since we're heading into spring and they usually get seasonal and holiday stuff out earlier rather than later!
Good Luck finding yours!

For us they are by all that stuff and there are table top fans and box fans in the same area. I think that's the category they are stocked in.

Everytime one of us goes to the dentist, I snatch the trial size toothpaste and put it away. I hate having to buy them, when we get them every 6 months for free. I found if I leave them out, certain people in the house (DH) will use them.

I also start collecting new shiny pennies for the flat penny machines. It seems to be the one thing that takes the longest to collect for trips.

It's a boring rainy day in PA so I spent a looong time browsing the dollar store and drug store while I was there.

I added: A mini version of my fav deodorant, princess band-aids, bacitracin packets, a Little Mermaid swim ring (takes up almost NO space brand new), some Minnie barrettes, and a Fairies lip balm.

I bought "Penny" a Gymboree "Mermaid" outfit off ebay that arrived yesterday and added I that, too.

I might add that "Penny" was dressed as Snow White during our shopping :goodvibes

The other night I had a dream (nightmare?) that it was time to leave for the airport and I suddenly realized I had forgotten to pack! Well, if that actually happens, at least I can dump the box in a suitcase and be halfway there. Somehow, I doubt I'll forget, though

56 days until our trip!

I'm starting to scan the grocery aisles for sales. I added juice boxes, a can of juice concentrate to mix up in our room, raisin boxes, a can of honey roasted peanuts, and snack sized sandwich cookie packs.

I've almost finished the Sleeping Beauty dress I'm making "Penny" I started with a pink tee shirt and added a summer-weight fabric skirt and overlay. Some sequins glitz up the cool calico. I just need to add the collar and start on a similar Snow White dress. Then, into the box they go :thumbsup2

Some unanswered ??? on this thread (of course, I can only speak for myself)

We fly. I will check this stuff with our luggage. I have also put various bags in our vaca box- those zipper bags that sheet sets are packaged in. I roll pack our clothing, of course I need to take care and not exceed weight limits. The loaf of bread, cereal, and chips that eventually will go in will help balance that out. We have Southwest this year so I can pack more. Last year we paid for 2 checked bags. Yeah, in retrospect, I should have mailed.

Aside from things that are only for camping and are packed in totes in the basement. This is the only trip we do this for.

So yesterday I was getting stuff for our trip & while at Dollar Tree I found out that they sell six pack of 20 bottled water ... FOR A DOLLAR!!! So of course i bought some and i bought a few BIG bottles of Gatorade for the trip too! That was really amazing to me as I hadn't been there in a while and had NO IDEA they sold pack of bottled water. ALSO, as a tip ... and this applies to more of the adults traveling without kids bc most parents traveling with kids will prob have this ... but we are 2 young adults w/o children so this was new to me BUT -- we are bringing pediatric electrolyte to add to our Gatorade to ensure we don't dehydrate PLUS since we'll be drinking around the world ... we've proven that this same mixture prevents hangovers! So just a thought- :)

Also - i found sunscreen rated 100spf (4oz) and 90+spf (6oz) both were 8.97 at wal mart. Plus they have small travel size sunscreens but i only found 30spf.

Don't forget to bring an extra pair of contacts (just in case!)
Don't forget to bring mailing addresses if you send them a postcard
Print out the Mousekeeping envelopes & put them in the box so you don't lose them

I will head to Dollar Tree this weekend! You really can't beat that. I also hadn't thought about adding the pediatric electrolyte. Does that come in a powder you just add to the drinks or do you mix the drink in with the Gatorade?

Here's a sunscreen tip. I get a fillable travel size bottle at the drug store/Walmart. I also bring a full size bottle of our regular sunscreen (usually bought on sale). I use the big bottle (which stays in our room) to fill/refill the little travel bottle, which fits quite nicely in my Hayes bag.

I picked up the Misty Mates at Costco. The personal misters. It was $14.99 (I think). It came with 2 of the 2.5 Mistys and 1 of the 10 oz Misty. The one plus is you don't need batteries for these. We only had the 2.5 oz ones the last trip.

So we will be flying has anyone try shipping soda down?
I love all the storage Ideas:thumbsup2,but again we will be flying so for most of th storage Ideas we would have to ship them down there. My question Is It worth the shipping cost to save at the value stores?. I always ship a package down so thats not a problem but with the larger Items Its going to cost more.:goodvibes

lumpy08

I shipped water from staples for my last trip. I was between 6-8 dolalrs a case. I figured you could probably pay that for 1 bottle at the park. I ended up shipping 1 case per person. I ended up with 1-2 cases left over for seven people. However, that was when we used to drink soda as well. Both DH and I stopped drinking soda last year. (I dont' even miss it - we used to drink a 2 liter together everyday or more).

The one thing I have to check on for this trip is someone mentioned there may be an additional charge to ship to convention center hotels. Where we are staying at CR it may be the case. But, to me it is totally worth it. I had it shipped the last trip. The bell person brought it right up to our room. They wouldn't even take a tip. So instead of going to the store and lugging cases of water/soda around I think it is definately worth it.

*** The other thing I found at Dollar Tree this week was the single serving packets of Hawaiin Punch, lemonade, etc. There were 10 packets in a box for $1. Watch out for the Snapple ones there are only 4 in each pak. I think they were all the "light" version at our Dollar Tree, but honestly my kids couldn't tell the difference.

Instead of shipping water down, you could look at ordering from a place like garden grocer- we ordered from them last trip but we ordered a bunch of things (not just water)- grocery type items like fruit and lunch meats...so if you only need water it may not be a good idea.

We drove down last time, but in our travel box we packed things like purex laudrey sheets, extra qaurters for washer/dryers, glow bracelets/neckalaces, M&M candy tubes filled with pennies and quarters for pressed penny machines, disney toys and dolls that I secretly prebought from Disney store and WalMart before our trip, rain ponchos, rechargeable batteries and the charger, tip envelopes for mousekeeping, my tour schedule for each park, zip loc bags of all sizes (large ones are good for storing wallet, phone, etc when on a water/wet ride- small ones are good for packing snacks and also for keeping a wet wash cloth handy to bring to parks (great for wiping sticky hands or sweaty faces!) crystal lite packets, bottles of gatorade...

We keep the camper packed with our day to day necessities like toiletries and such. But I have started a “Disney Box” and in it are
- New clothes for the kids to wear on the trip
- Tinkerbell gifts for each kid/each day of our trip
- Light up toys from previous trips
- New sunglasses for all
- Misters
- Pins (purchased from ebay for a buck or 2 each)
- Passports I printed for the kids (instead of purchasing them at EPCOT)
- Photo Mats for the characters at our 2 breakfasts to sign – we are foregoing autograph books this trip and just having the dining characters sign a mat for each of the kids)
- Sharpies (to go along with the mats)
- Extra ponchos

My box isn't solely for Disney but summer in general though it has a lot of stuff in it for our trip in October.

Purex laundry sheets
Mister Fans
Mugs
Supplies for the kids' Magical Greetings boxes
Cars Swimsuit I bought for DS5
Sun Block
Samples of a bunch of toiletries
Stickers
Aloe
Autograph books and Lanyards
Cubs Ponchos

There is one thing I haven't seen on here. We get a lot samples of kids' magazines, puzzles, etc trying to get us to buy them. They are in there along with any of the little kids' packs that restaurants hand out but that my kids don't always use if they are busy. I put those in my bag to take TS dinners, they are already nice and compact.

towels (for me as I need sweat rags) but I might just take a hand towel each day for my sweat rags;
ponchos;

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

- Photo Mats for the characters at our 2 breakfasts to sign – we are foregoing autograph books this trip and just having the dining characters sign a mat for each of the kids)

What an original idea! :thumbsup2

Do you get these laminated afterwards?

Hang on.. I think I misunderstand. I read "photo mats" but had a picture of "place mats" (ie for meals) in my head. What do you mean by photo mat?

Are those stickers? Where did you get them?

Actually it's vinyl (basically a roll of contact paper)l that I cut with my cricut, but you could get black at walmart or a craft store and trace Mickey heads and cut them out as well. My cricut just cuts it for me so all I have to do is peel and stick.

If you want you can head to Home Depot to the paint department. They have paint chips in the shape of Mickey heads. You can cut them out and stick them on. We did ours in the Dis fave Alien Green!:cool1:

Just peeked in my bag yesterday - I have a 2-pack of ponchos (unopened, from Dollar Tree), 2 new matching tee-shirts (presents!), and a makeup bag with empty containers (for lotion, vitamins, anything small that I would lose easily), a travel size shampoo & conditioner (got Pantene at CVS for $1.99 for both!), a travel pack of bandaids, and I saw a safety pin or two at the bottom :)
don't go till fall, but it feels like I need to get moving on this!!:rotfl:

Most sporting goods or running stores will have it. My friend is a runner (1:35 half marathon) and she uses Monistat Soothing Care Chafing relief, which you should be able to get at any drugstore. It starts as a liquid, but dries as a powder. I tried it this past weekend for the Wine & Dine Half and had no chafing at all in the places I used it - made me wish I hadn't set up a control area, which did chafe!!

Body glide is awesome. I use it on my feet to prevent blisters. I carry it in my fanny bag and in the middle of the day reapply it. Love it! Also you can put it on the inside of your legs or anywhere else where you may get chapped or irrated. I buy mine at Sports Authority but i am sure most sports places carry it. Try it you will be glad you did.

Body Glide is an anti-chafing topical that runners use. You can find it at sporting goods stores (i.e. Dick's etc.) We used it on our last trip and will be taking it on our next trip. We used it on our feet and any other spots that were affected by chafing. Happy Planning!

We're leaving the end of November. I better start my box. Love the night light idea and the pipe cleaners. My 10 year old made a scorpian out of twist ties at the market. Pipe cleaners would keep him busy on the airplane for a little while. Also a few clothes pins is a great idea for hanging bathing suits.

Gonna start my box tonight :surfweb:

Purell wipes

I know some of us start putting aside items in a vacation box for our trips. I started mine yesterday!!

So far it has:
Purex laundry sheets
Dryer sheets
Tiny bottle of Shout
tiny bottle of Febreeze
tiny bottle of dish detergent
some dishwasher detergent

first aid items
chapstick with sunscreen

Items I'll add later:
Ponchos
mini fans

What's in yours?

Probably heard this a hundred times but moleskin is a must literally feels like any sores and blisters on your feet arent there! So great!

I have a rubber maid that is labled "WDW" & we keep it in the attic. I keep everything we used on our last trip & then add little Disney nick nacks that I find between trips. I pack a few in my back pack & take into the parks. When the kids get the gimmes I pull one out. I also use them as magic experiences, leave them on their plate at dinner & say its from Cinderells etc. I keep my passporter in there. That way when ever I decide to plan another trip I know right where it is. autograph books pins etc.

Can't wait to start my box!! :) We aren't going till November 27 2011, but I have a long list on excel on what I need to get. So I will be buying a box next paycheck and starting to gather things. We will be driving down so I see a trip to costco to bulk buy bulk items. The only thing I will need to get when we get there is milk for the my two girls. But I lived behind the Magic Kingdom for three years so I know where all the stores are. ;)

If you haven't seen it yet there is also a thread in the family section about making a binder for your trip. They look really cool.

WOW, some people bring a ton of stuff with them. I am guessing that many of these people drive. There is no way with airline fee and restrictions you could bring all the stuff people have listed.

We just returned from our second trip this year (12/18-12/25). We have 3 kids (DD5, DS7, DS8).

One thing I always take is a bath mat. My youngest still takes baths and the thought of her sitting on a hotel tub gives me the willies.

Other things (we fly so our list is not as long). We also do the dining plan.

*Nightlight - Hate leaving the bathroom light on
*Body glide
*Sewing kit - actually used it this year
*Ton of extra pins bought off ebay - kids lanyards
*3 boxes of capri sun - always nice to have some juice for the room.
*Goggles and inflatable rings
*DVD players for kids on plane / chargers
*cute shirts and items I pick up on sale at the disney store

Things I ship a box ahead of time: These include things we will use while there and not bring home - shipping a box is a ton cheaper than an extra baggage fee.

*Glow sticks - 1 per child per night - with 3 kids I love having them glow.
*Zip lock bags - large and small
*Wipes - clean ice cream faces
*Oatmeal -- we make it for breakfast with hot water
*Disposable spoons / bowls
*Snack foods
*Laundry soap

Things we DON'T take - no need

*Over the door hanger - did it once - does not work - can not shut the bathroom door and hated it on the the clothes bar.
*power strip - I go on vacation to get away from real life - that means only taking a cell phone and only using it in emergecies. Nothing to plug in beyond ravor.
*Misting fans - hate those things - only thing I hate more is when someone in line gets me all moist with theirs.
*Rain ponchos - in 4 trips we have never needed them - I am afraid if I take them I will be jinxing our trip and it will rain.
*Any electronic device - as I said it is a vacation
*Hamper - we just use a empty suitcase and leave the top unzipped and push stuff into it. We do wash every 3 days.
*Beach towels - we use their towels - waste of space to me

You are right!! We do drive. I don't use the shoe hanger for shampoo and such. I use it for receipts, extra park maps I pick up, and pockets for the various "junk" we collect every day. I scrapbook, so when I get home, our days are all in individual "pockets" !!

My cousin is a DFreak, too. She sent me a roll of Disney ribbon before our recent trip so we could put a Mickey bow on our luggage. The ribbon is now in my box - I love new traditions!

My sister gave us bottle coozies with hooks - so easy to hook a soda or water bottle to a purse or belt loop.

Benadryl, decongestant and pain reliever of choice.

And, everything everyone else said!

This thread is fantastic; I already have the perfect box to start planning in, and a few things to toss in even though we haven't even booked our trip yet! I can also add a couple small items that will be helpful for me:
~smaller/samples of favorite perfume (just in case something gets lost/broken)
~extra pairs of sunglasses for DH and I
~index cards with appropriate dining (DH and I will be on a specialized diet by then, and will be limited in what we can eat.)
~travel-size deodorant for in the parks (it gets warm, I know I'll need it)
~extra hair ties ( I once had one break in a zoo, and the hair blowing in my face irritated me all day.)
~deck of cards/compact games. Fluxx, Set, Farkel, and Phase 10 are all good games (especially for groups) if you have a flat surface and get bored.

DH keeps rolling his eyes at me when I ask him about some new WDW-related detail. I'm sure the magic will get to him soon enough!

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or not but last year I picked up those magic towels at the Dollar Tree. We threw them in the back pack and when we got hot at the park we got it out and run it under a water fountain to expand it and use it to cool down. I kept some extra zip lock bags in my bag to put it in when we where done. Also don't forget scissors to cut the mole skin. I forgot but luckily DH had his pocket knife.
I have to say it's nice that I already have the biggest part of these things mentioned already put away in our box from last years trip. I felt like I bought a million things last year to get ready to go so it's nice I don't have as much to pick up ahead of time this year.

I use whatever box I can find, and right now it's a diaper box which is great as it has little handle like things to hold tight to. One thing I have in the box is a "buddy sudsy" bar. I use a big rubbermaid tub. I usually start filling it anytime I see something on sale that I might need. I good way to start filling it is to make a list of things from this site that you might need for your vacation. Keep the list on the fridge or a place that you will see it often. I usually will add an item or two to my weekly grocery list that way I have everything I need before my trip and it doesn't seem like I am spending a lot right before we leave. I also keep the list on my iphone so if I am out and see something on sale I may need I can just mark it off.

I currently have a pretty full box from our last trip in Sept but plan on going through it this weekend and making my list for things that need to be replaced for our upcoming trip this May.

HTH Have a magical time!!!

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet, I have some medium sized 3M removable hooks. The shoe organizer I bought has holes at the top so I can attach the hooks to the wall and hang it up that way.

I also bought a small hanging shower organizer so we dont have to have everything balanced on the edges of the tub. I got if from Dollar Tree so Im' not worried if it turns out to be a piece of junk.

I took everything we didn't use in October and put it right into a carry-on bag. There were several travel size items we never opened b/c I had no concept of what we would use, it being our first vacation in our 13 year marriage! We are headed back in May, and my travel size items are ready to go. Another thing I did b/c I wasn't sure when we were going to go was to put all the summer clothes in our suitcases. We don't have space for all the summer and winter clothes to be out b/c there are 7 of us, so when I did the seasonal changeover, I decided I didn't want to be digging through boxes when it came time for Disney. So...we are already well on our way to being packed! I don't like taking lots of extra stuff on vacation, so we kept it light with everyone using their carry-on suitcase and a bag only. It was still a grand total of 14 bags plus my hubby's C-pap!

I am going to start hitting the dollar store for glow items though. Never thought to do that. I never go to the dollar store b/c I am a couponer, and I get things for free or really cheap all the time. I just sent my hubby today to grab 10 Colgate toothbrushes for free, 10 Colgate toothpastes for free, and 6 boxes of Snuggle fabric softener for $ .50 each. That was a small haul, but super cheap! My cousin laughed hysterically when she found out I was going to Disney the first time. She said I was going to go into shock b/c I couldn't use a coupon there! I survived! When the seasons changed last year I loaded up on end of the season clothes, and all five kids have new wardrobes to wear to Disney, and they were SO cheap! So, all in all, while I don't have a box I put things into, I sort of do the same thing in a roundabout way. Most of it is just in suitcases, and I absolutely shop the deals throughout the year to make it less stressful when we do spend a lot at Disney!

Someone in an earlier post asked if the Downy Wrinkle Releaser really works. The answer is YES! It's amazing! You can buy a big bottle of it near the laundry detergent section of any store, or they have travel size bottles in the travel sections of Target or any store like it. Just spray it on your clothes while holding them tight, and then you literally pull out the wrinkles! Magic! It has a fresh smell too. Only thing is you may need to wait a few mins for the clothes to dry, so I do it as soon as I hang them up. I never iron so I heavily rely on this stuff!

Wow! These are all great ideas! I have a small-sized yellow legal pad obession. For our trip in October, for just the 4 of us, I filled 5 pages within an hour of sitting down to make my list.

This trip is a surprise for the girls so it's been so much harder to keep all of my stuff in one place. I do have a small stack of stuff that hasn't seemed to draw their attention yet. It has paper towels, kleenex and a Publix bag with a few snacks in it.

Question for character autographs:

Do they prefer large-tipped Sharpies, fine-tipped Sharpies or the chunky pens? (And don't put it past me to get a colorful pack of both types of Sharpies to take with me, plus a silver large-tip :rotfl:)

I know "fuzzy" characters prefer chunky whatever-it-is you hand them so they can grip it, but what about the "people" characters?

Haha! Feels good though, doesn't it? I've been doing it for almost a year now, and I had a chance to watch the show too. I don't believe in hoarding the items I get. I have turned it into a nice little business. Helps me pay for Disney! I've gotten probably 200 free toothpastes, 40 free oatmeals, 20 free dishsoaps, etc... and that's just in the last couple weeks. Anyway, it's super fun, and glad you are on board with it! My kids are learning valuable lessons with it! Here's to hoping Colgate is on sale this week so my coupons don't expire!!!!

I love it!!!! I just don't quite agree with the idea of hoarding the items just b/c it "feels" good to have that much stuff. I keep no more than what my family can use in 6 months to a year depending on what expires and what doesn't. The rest I sell, donate, or help out family with!

One year, we took a pillow case, the round ring used for needlepoint, colored sharpies and inside the pillowcase was a double layer of cardboard to allow LOTS of room for the character to sign their name. As it gets filled up, you move the fabric inside the ring. We got wonderful comments from both the CMS and the characters.

Love all the ideas! Dh, dd, and I like to have everything we need, AND we like to travel light... I know - a challenging task! So I have some suggestions for multi-use items and lighter-weight substitutions:

1 - I'm sure if you've used BodyGlide you'll never go back, but I for one will not make a special trip to a store I never go to (and is 30 minutes away). I use unscented stick deoderant/antipersperant for chafing - the same stuff I use under my arms. I bring 2 sample-size tubes, and usually only use 1. I do have to reapply on super hot days or after swimming, but it works great!

2 - My dd6 takes showers now, so a bath mat isn't necessary. BUT if I was considering one, I would actually use some of our leftover kitchen cabinet liner. It's the lightweight foam mesh stuff sold with the contact papers. I imagine it would last all of 1 week being used daily in a tub. I would test it at home though!

3 - For warm rainy days, we don't bring extra socks. We just bring flipflops or kayak sandals. We do have to be careful about blisters, but that's true of wet socks too.

4 - Last trip we used Garden Grocer to buy breakfast items, snacks, decent coffee, beer, water, paper plates, styrofoam bowls (for cereal), plastic utensils, paper napkins, paper towels, and a few toilletries. It was GREAT knowing we didn't have to save room in our bags for any of this stuff, even if we did fly SW and could bring 2 bags each. You still have to manoeuver all those bags and unpack them!

5 - Last trip, the Disney Princesses left a present for dd each night. The hardest part was packing, unpacking, and getting thru security without dd seeing any of the hidden items (can't wrap ahead of time). Then, of course, I had to stay up late the 1st night wrapping (as quietly as possible!). This year, I'm using others advice and I'll ship a box ahead of time - with everything fully wrapped.

And things I always bring with no particular purpose:
carabiners (the cheap ones)
binder clips
rubber bands (used with carabiners, these have a million uses!)
ziplocs in all sizes
individually-wrapped wipes (for tables, child's face, bathroom, etc.)
safety pins

Thanks to everyone for your great ideas! This year I'll add some collapsible cloth boxes to contain the clutter in the room, and a power strip with all the cords plugged in and labelled. Love this thread!

I just added a travel sized toothpaste. I was going to bring the regular sized tube, but it's like four times the size! I'd rather spend the dollar & have more space. :)

Also, while I was throwing the toothpaste in there, I saw I have mini shampoo & conditioner in the "bathroom bag". I forgot i had those in there, so I'm more prepared than I thought!

We aren't going to Disney until next April, but did just return from Florida (for a wedding) a couple weeks ago. I transferred a lot of stuff to my box for next year.

Beach Towels
Over the door shoe organizer
Hooks for the organizer (in case I want to hang it someplace other than the bathroom door).
Rain ponchos (bought at Wal Mart for 1.00 each, I always buy multiples because they are so cheap)
Moleskin
Powerstrips (2)
Purex 3-n-1 sheets
Safety pins
Tooth brush coves
Lint Roller
Ear Plugs (my dd is sensitive to loud noises)
Mini sewing kit
Eye glass repair kit
Duct tape
Autograph books (2)
Sharpies
Mini sizes of shampoo and conditioner (usually receive free)
DD Lanyard with disney pins for trading

I have also started a planning binder for the trip. We have already changed the date and where we are staying so having this binder is very helpful.

Last year (my first yr.) at POP, I made a "note to self" to bring a bunch of cheap plastic hangers (with &/or without pants-ledge)to use for various things in the very underused closet space next to the bathroom when extra space is such a much needed necessity for me.
i.e.: clothes that don't fit in 4 drawers
clothes that get wrinkled
damp towels
damp bathing suits
lanyards
etc., etc., etc.
You can throw them out/ leave them when you go home.

You don't have to take up extra space by packing extra hangers. If you are at any Disney resort, just call housekeeping and ask for more hangers. No problem.

Bathrooms have the line to pull at the shower for wet suits and you can leave your wet towel from the pool at the pool.

It is attached to the wall of the tub/shower - and you pull it out and bring it to the other side of the tub/shower - hang your suits to dry !
(I have used it at SSR.)

So Um...I started my box...we leave in 10 months...sad I know. BUT in my defense, I am making my parents who are going with us (their first time) a gift basket of things like this they'll need for Xmas...so I need that in 6 months...:rotfl2: i also am a serious bargain hunter so the sooner I start the more I save.

So far:
Kool Aide packets for h2o bottles
Kids new Disney sunglasses
4 Disney Beach towels
Sunblock
4 custom polymer Disney clay necklaces for DD
Disney bows (I run an Etsy boutique LOL, this is an essential)
Misty Mates
packing Cubes
Quick Dry polos for DH
dollar store glo stick and glo wands
dollar store ponchos
new water bottles
Mio for my parents
a new cosmetic bag
dollar store mickey nite lite for hotel

....and a STACK of fabric. Yes fabric LOL. I have my kids' custom outfits already planned.....that is half the fun of trip planning for me!

Will add lots more, baking powder for sunburns, bandaides, moleskin, bodyglide, tiny umbrella, sample sized medicines as I get them in the mail, etc etc etc

I am useing a cooler for my box,but i thought about useing it to ship our stuff(thats not going to fit into our luggage) down to our room. We are staying at the Poly, and to save on room in the fridge thought about getting double the use of our cooler(its the longer one). Shipping our extra stuff and then useing it to store our soda from garden grocer. My question has an one ever ship a cooler through UPS?,do the allow that?.:goodvibes

Can someone tell me where to find the Purex sheets? I looked in the detergent section of Target and Walmart and couldn't find them.

So, this thread is still going, huh?

Our vacation box is actually our largest suitcase. We are leaving in 2 months but 6 months before you can find everything but our clothes and electronics in there. But everything that we will need that is not in the suitcase is on a special list so we don't forget it.

In fact, my husband got himself in a world of trouble for using the sunburn lotion from the suitcase since we didn't have any in the house. He didn't understand that once it's in there, you do not take it out. We might forget it!

Our weirder items are:

Toothbrush holders (one for each bathroom)
Tooth fairy box (just in case)

I bring a cheezy wicker-like basket with me, the kind you get in the dollar store. When we arrive, I put the basket down on the counter and that is where everything goes. Room keys, cameras, money, memory cards, photo pass etc. This way we always know where the important stuff is.
I also buy disney themed items from yard sales and pack them...things like fanny packs, hats and sweatshirts. Saves big bucks.

Ok, I spent FAR too long catching up on this thread and promptly started my own box! :) I haven't read everything, so forgive me if this one has been mentioned, but I found hand sanitizer on carbines at Big Lots today. $1.50 for a 2 pack! This was a great find for my DH as he is a stickler for having hand sanitizer.

Love the power strip idea - I'm a techie and can't go anywhere without my electronics.

I found some in my Walmart store, but they were a little tricky. Seems like it was closer to the fabric softener than the detergent? :confused3 I needed them when I sent my boys to the laundromat a few weeks ago with a ton of stuff to wash! Now I have about 1/2 a box left to throw in my Disney box!

Here is their website, so you can see the box. That helps me find stuff sometimes!!

I don't think I've seen this on the thread yet, but if I'm repeating something, ignore. For all of you who hate the coffee supplied in your rooms at Disney as much as I do: I have a supply of coffee filters only for the small pots in the rooms (I have an espresso maker at home, so don't use filters on a daily basis). Then the day before we leave I will grind up a weeks worth of coffee and put it in a sealed container to bring with us. I do love me a GOOD cup of caffeine when I first wake up!
