::MickeyMo Making the most of each Disney day!
 Hi everybody! This is my first trip report and I'm really excited to get it started! :goodvibes
During this trip I’m determined to make the most of each day my family spends in Disney World. In the past, making the most meant riding every ride, seeing every show and never missing a beat. Although I am and always will be a planner, I’ve decided not to try and cram everything in this trip. I will divert all my OCD planning into planning time for FUN instead! :yay:
Our party includes my mom Kim, dad Kelly, sister Holly, nephew Jace (9), niece Rylan (2), and me, Alicia (24).
Our trip begins April 24 and ends on May 1. My mom’s birthday is April 22, so that is one of the things we will be celebrating while we’re there. :cake:
My family is also still in celebration mode over the Saints winning the Superbowl! :woohoo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0DBfyut5NY
I'm not sure my family wants their pictures posted, so I'll hold off on that until I get the go-ahead from them. But here are some photos from my first and last trip to Disney.
MGM 1991

MGM 1991 {I'm putting this pic because this was the highlight of my trip. I know it's weird that meeting Mickey or riding Dumbo wasn't, but I LOVED the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was little. I was just so starstruck to be meeting Michaelangelo!! :worship: }

We'll be staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort for the first time. We’ve stayed at Disney’s Boardwalk, All Star Sports and in the Fort Wilderness cabins. So this will also be our first time staying at a moderate resort. Having stayed at a Deluxe, a Value and a Home Away From Home, I’m interested in seeing the difference between them and a Moderate. If anyone has pictures from their stay at Caribbean Beach, or any tips and suggestions about staying there, I’d love to see and hear them!

We started a 50 day character countdown on March 5. Each day my nephew pulls off a sticky note and reveals the name of a Disney character and a trivia question. I’ll try to post the questions on here each day for anyone who wants to answer along with us. :scratchin
The questions are easy and kid-friendly so my nephew can know the answers. ;)

Hey there from a fellow Louisiana resident....West Monroe here!
I have tons of pictures of the CBR in my "Stop Making Me Laugh" trip report and some in my "Over the River" pre-trip report. Just click on the link(s) to take a look around.
Very cute countdown calendar. We still have 78 days before we start the drive to Walt Disney World so I probably won't start our countdown calendar for a couple of weeks.
Are you guys flying or driving to Disney?

Hi! Thanks, I'll definitely check out the CBR pics in your reports! I'm so excited about staying there! :yay:
We'll be driving to Disney. It takes us about 12 hours. In the past we've sometimes stayed overnight somewhere halfway, but we're just gonna take turns driving and go the whole way for this trip. I'm in the car ride game planning phase right now (to keep the kiddies entertained). I also bought the "Disney: The Music behind the Magic" cd for the trip. So hopefully the drive goes by quickly. :drive:

We drive too and our drive is anywhere between 14 and 16 hours. Just depends on what time we leave, traffic and weather. Since we leave after work, we drive until Midnight the first night and then the rest of the way the next day. When we leave to come home, we drive straight through.:scared1:

Hey there! Another girl signing on from Louisiana. We drive as well. It's be nice to be in the 40 day range till our trip. However, we still have 73 days left.
I love the countdown you have going on. Very cute. I need to get mine together, so the boys can have something to do rather than telling me every day that we need to go back to WDW today because they miss_________ (fill in the blank with any attraction).

14-16 hours…Yikes! :car: But I’m terrified of flying, so I’d probably drive as far as I needed to get to Disney! :)

Yep, it was Monstro! I really should watch that movie again, all I remember is the real people version that came out several years ago.
It looks like we'll both be in Epcot on the 28th! We also may cross paths on the 29th or May 1st coming and going between parks.
You should definitely start a PTR! :thumbsup2 I'll be looking out for it!

Itinerary
April 23: Departure
We leave our Louisiana home and travel the 12 hours to Orlando sometime after dark. (Sleeping kids are quiet kids. :bitelip:)
April 24: Arrival
I’m guessing we arrive to the Happiest Place on Earth sometime around lunchtime. The rest of the day will be for rest and relaxation. I’ll be taking pictures and soaking in all that the CBR has to offer. :goodvibes I’m sure my sister and the kiddies will hit the pool, my mom will probably check out the souvenir shop and the dining options, and my dad will be catching some Z’s.
April 25: Animal Kingdom
I’m a “save the best for last” kind of person. So yeah, I love Animal Kingdom, it just doesn’t give me the Disney warm fuzzies like the other parks do, so we always go their first.
April 26: Hollywood Studios
I love, love, love Hollywood Studios! I’m a movie/Hollywood buff and all the glitz, glitter and action appeals to me. :yay: We’re going this day because it’s EMH.
April 27: Magic Kingdom
I’m just so looking forward to our Crystal Palace breakfast! I’ve heard such great things about it! We’re splitting the park in to two sections this trip – so this day we’re focusing on Fantasyland, Mickey’s Toontown Fair and Tomorrowland.
April 28: Epcot (Future World)
My first Flower and Garden Festival!! I wonder if there’s a button for that. We’re just staying in Future World this day, so hopefully we get to see and do a lot. My must-do for this day is Test Track. [*Horror story from 3 years ago* --I waited 2 hours in line (with a rambunctious 6-year-old might I add ) only to get right up to the cars and be told the ride had broken down (I’ve heard this happens often). Everyone in line got fast passes, but it was already late and we had to leave.-- :(]
April 29: Magic Kingdom
This day we’re covering Frontierland, Adventureland and Liberty Square. I’m stoked about our Ohana ADR for this night!! This style of restaurant is right up my alley. Just keep bringing the food and piling it on my plate! :teeth:
April 30: Epcot (World Showcase)
On our last trip we really rushed around WS because it was getting late and we really wanted to stop at all the kidcot stations before Illuminations started. This year I’m hoping to take it at a leisurely pace and take in all the details.
May 1: Leaving
I’m not sure what time we’ll leave. That’s up to my dad a.k.a. “the driver.” :rolleyes1 We could get up early and try to hit one of the parks if we really want to do something again or if we were on the fence about buying something and have decided to get it. I’m guessing we’ll leave after lunch.
May 2: Home Sweet Home
We’ll recuperate, relax and get ready for the not-so-fun Monday morning when we all go back to school and work. :sad1:

Disney Binder
I've had a trip planning binder for the past year now that holds all my handwritten notes, lists and tips. It's still pretty organized because I'm anal-retentive, :rolleyes1 but right now I'm in the process of typing up all my handwritten papers and consolidating all the information. Those pages will go into my "Disney Binder," which is the binder I take with me to the parks each day. Here it is:

Here are some of the knick knacks I’m gonna pack for the kids: glowsticks, necklaces and bracelets, bubbles, yoyos, temporary tattoos, sticky wall men (or whatever they’re called :scratchin), coloring book, colors and a beach pail for CBR.
My 9-year-old nephew will have his handheld Nintendo DS, so I’m sure that will occupy most of his time while waiting in lines, but I think it will be nice to pull a little extra toy or trinket out and surprise him with it while waiting for the parades or at the bus stop.

Hi Alicia! All caught up on your trip report!! LOVING the trivia too!!! We ate at Crystal Palace on our last trip before park opening and it was great! I think our ADR time was 8:20 but we were seated by 8:10! We had plenty of time to eat and make it right over to Fantasyland right at 9:00! It was a great breakfast and the character interaction was great!!! Great memories there for us!!! Your binder it totally awesome!! You are so organized, makes me jealous!! I stuff everything in folders!!! I hope to get my packet today, it seems everyone who is going as the same time as us has gotten their stuff already!!! Thank you!! And thanks for letting me know about your Crystal Palace experience! I was a little worried about our ressie at 8:25 because I figured that would be cutting it a little close with trying to get out by 9, but it never occured to me we might get seated a little earlier. Animal Kingdom (April 25)
The first morning we’ll be eating breakfast at CBR.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/IMG_3740.jpg
The park opens a 9 a.m. and we’ll probably head straight for Kilimanjaro Safaris. After that I’m thinking we’ll hop over and get FP’s for Dinosaur, then spend time in Dinoland waiting for the first showing of Finding Nemo: The Musical (My favorite thing from our last trip!)
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/IMG_3765.jpg
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/IMG_3788.jpg
Next we’ll probably head to Flame Tree BBQ for lunch (I’ve never eaten here before, but I love barbeque, so I’m sure I’ll like it!:))
I’m thinking It’s Tough to be a Bug will be a good sit down thing to do after we eat. Then I’m hoping to use our Dinosaur FP’s then go to Asia to get my dad and I four FP’s for Expedition Everest. We’ll hang in Asia and maybe ride Kali River Rapids or walk the Maharajah Jungle Trek. I’m thinking the rest of the family may want to see Flights of Wonder while waiting for my dad and I to use our Everest FP’s.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/DISNEYWORLD2007084.jpg
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/IMG_3809.jpg
Afterwards we’ll make our way back to Africa to get in place for the Jammin’ Jungle parade and then maybe take the Wildlife Express Train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. (I’m pretty sure I’ve been here before, I have pictures of us on the train, but for the life of me I can’t remember it. If anyone can share if there’s anything special to do here or reason why we should or shouldn’t go, I’m all ears)
If we have enough time I’d love to get over to Camp Minnie-Mickey next to see some characters. I wouldn’t mind missing Festival of the Lion King this trip. I’ve seen it three times and we have it on video so I’ve seen that a lot. So I’ll leave that up to the family.
If we’re hungry at this point I’m sure we’ll make a stop at Pizzafari. It’s such a beautiful CS restaurant!
At 6 p.m. when the park closes I want to head over to Animal Kingdom Lodge just to take a little tour since I hear such wonderful things about it. I know it would probably be best to go early in the morning when the animals are the most active, but I don’t think my family will want wake up any earlier than we have to already be for park opening. Plus we’ll be doing the safari first thing in the morning anyway.
If anyone has any advice or suggestions about visiting the lodge to give me that would be great. ( I hear zebra domes are not to be missed!:teeth:) I know we can take a bus directly from AK to AKL, but I’m concerned about the time it’s gonna take to get back to CBR since we’ll have to take a bus to one of the open parks and then one to our resort. We’ll have our car, but my dads favorite part of vacation is not having to drive, so we usually just rely on Disney transportation when we’re there. I guess we’ll just have to do some bus hopping.

Your AK plans look great. Rafiki's Planet Watch takes good chunk of time so we usually skip it, but I'm considering it this year because I think Zach (DS6) might enjoy it.

Yeah, I'm still on the fence about Planet Watch. My nephew loves the zoo we have here, so he'd probably like it, but that's the same reason I think we can skip it because he can see animals here. I guess we can just see where we're at with time when we get back there.

Your AK day looks great! As far as the AKL, zebra domes can be found in the coolers at Mara. YUMMY! STorytelling by the fire is always popular. It gives that relaxed feel I always have when we are there.
If you don't want to do the bus, you could always try to get a taxi back to CBR. Other than that, I'd probably get a bus to Epcot and switch to one to CBR from there.

We plan on eating at CBR again this morning and then making it to HS at park opening.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/IMG_3607.jpg
My dad and I will head down Sunset Blvd. to ride Rock-n-Rollercoaster while the others make their way to Toy Story Mania for FP’s for all of us. Then they are going to line up for the first showing of Playhouse Disney.
Hopefully my niece can meet Handy Manny after the show. He’s one of her favorites! We’ll probably all go check out The Magic of Disney Animation after.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/IMG_4244.jpg
Voyage of the Little Mermaid is a must because we missed it on our last trip.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/IMG_4243.jpg
We’ll probably eat lunch at Studio Catering Co. because it’s in a convenient location for our plans.
After eating I’m sure the kids will want to play in the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground. My dad or nephew may want to see Lights, Motor, Action, but once was enough for me and my mom. Us girls will probably do some shopping. :)
I’d like to catch an American Idol show because I’ve never seen it before. Has anyone seen it? Is it worth the 25 minutes?
Next we’ll ride The Great Movie Ride then my dad and I will get FP’s for Tower of Terror and try to catch the last showing of Beauty and the Beast.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/IMG_3613.jpg
I’d like to eat at the Backlot Express for supper because the grilled turkey sandwich looks really good, but I think the family will vote for Pizza Planet. I may have to do take-out and bring my sandwich with me. :rolleyes1
Hopefully we’ll still have time at the end of the night to try some drawing at the Animation Academy. I know my nephew would enjoy this.

I’ll run and get FP’s for Space Mountain and then we can all ride the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. Laugh Floor. I’ve never seen the Laugh Floor, so I’m really looking forward to that.
We’ll probably eat Cosmic Ray’s Café for supper and then try to ride Haunted Mansion afterwards. I love riding at night!

Hi Alicia,
subbing in; I, too, am from LA, we are driving we normally do it in a straight shot but we are thinking of doing it half and half this year. Anyway, wanted to sub in now I have to go back and catch up...I did make it to the countdown calendar--great idea!
I'll be back...
:wave2: Connie
OK! all caught up; how awesome you guys mentioned me yesterday :lmao: so sweet...I would love to figure out a meet that would be so mcuh fun!
your plans for your days look great! we do plan to spend the 28th at Epcot but I think we were going to skip Illuminations this year and hop over to MK in the evening (since it is our last day there)...but, I do intend on being there for rope drop. I think our paths cross on Monday evening...I plan to do AK and hop over to DHS for EMH that evening
so far my plans are:
Sat hang out at POP, DTD, and resort hop
Sun--MK --all day and night w/a break in the middle at the POP
Mon -- AK (we have ressies w/Donald) hop to DHS for EMH
Tue -- start out at Epcot; hop to DHS around 11 or noon we want to catch Fantasmic that eveing
Wed-- Epcot and hope over to MK in the evening to catch a few rides, Specto & Wishes
BTW: Ashton was 2 last year when we went; I did not use any of the child care centers and I just did things at an easy pace...he did fine with all the rides and characters...it was really a laid back trip last year (as we went during the horrible rain last May).
:wave2: Connie
happy planning :yay: I'll start pulling things and putting them to the side this week to start packing :yay: I can't believe we are so close!

Hi Connie! I was able to catch up on your report this morning thanks to your table of contents. It looks like our driving day plans are very similiar! We are leaving at around midnight on Sat. then driving the 12 hours to Disney and spending the day enjoying our resort.
I'll be sure to look out for you on Monday evening at HS and on our Epcot day! Thanks for the info about doing Disney with a 2-year-old. We went to Chuck-e-cheese last month and it took my niece a little while to adjust to Chuck-e. Hopefully that was a good warm-up and she'll be comfortable with all the Disney characters.
Have fun at the Strawberry Festival! I'll make it there one of these days! They were talking about it on the radio and it sounded like a good time for sure!

Magic Kingdom (April 29)
It’ll be an early morning again for us. I'd like to be at the Magic Kingdom Train Station Welcome at 7:50 and then go straight to Main Street Bakery to get breakfast.
Next we’ll hop on the railroad to Frontierland and throw on some ponchos for Splash Mountain, then ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Next I’m sure my nephew will want to play in the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/IMG_3907.jpg
We’ll then make our way to Adventureland and get FP’s for Jungle Cruise and ride Pirates of the Caribbean. pirate: We missed the beginning of Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Tutorial last time, so I’d like to catch the whole thing.
(Does anybody watch Project Runway? I think Jesse was the one we saw. This picture isn’t the greatest, but it does look like it might have been him.)
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/DISNEYWORLD2007126.jpg
I'm not sure if we will see The Enchanted Tiki Room or not, but everyone has already said they could do without climbing up The Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse again. Then the kids can do The Magic Carpets of Aladdin. (I can’t remember us ever doing this because the lines are always ridiculously long.)
We’ll most probably eat lunch at Pecos Bills. My mom said this was the best burger we had on our last trip and I’m pretty sure she’ll want to go back.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/IMG_3925.jpg
We may see the Country Bear Jamboree next then go back to ride the Jungle Cruise. I plan on grabbing a Dole Whip and then heading over to hopefully meet Princess Tiana! princess: She quickly became a fav in our home!
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/DISNEYWORLD2007147.jpg
I’d like to take some time and go down Main Street and just enjoy all the details. I also saw a picture of Casey’s Corn Dog Nuggets and they are just calling out to me, so I might have to make a stop there. :)
We’ll probably leave the park at 7:00 by monorail and head to the Polynesian to do a little walking around until our Ohana reservation at 8:20. I have to say this is the thing I’m MOST looking forward to! :teeth: I’m excited to try the food they serve and I think my family will LOVE the atmosphere! :goodvibes
Then it’s back to MK to catch a bus back to CBR and call it a night. :faint:
I wanted to share this video of the Magic Kingdom in case anyone hasn’t seen it. It makes me smile every time I watch it!

after a little research I found this about locations for Illuminations:
Best Places to Watch Illuminations
1. UK-Canada Trail - A good spot to watch "Illuminations" is near the United Kingdom. As you're leaving the United Kingdom and entering Canada, there is a trail that leads off to the side. There are trees to sit under if you prefer. It is a little-known path with little to no crowd
2. Sushi Bar - The Japanese restaurant is one of the best places to eat in the whole of Disney. If you go to the sushi bar side of it before the fireworks show starts, you can watch the whole thing right out the window while you eat delicious, relatively cheap sushi.
3. CM Entrance - Between Norway and China there is a cast member entrance set back a ways from the walkway. You can step back into this area, get out of the way of the traffic and have a virtually unobstructed view of the lagoon and the sky.
4. Norway - In front of the Norway, good view, all facilities within easy reach (Kringla Bakeri, restrooms, water fountain).
5. France - Get there about 1/2 an hour early. There are iron bistro type tables and chairs right by the water. Head to the bakery - which is usually dead late at night. Grab some snacks (the cheese plate w/ bread, chocolate crepe, GM slushes)
6. Mexico - Cantina de San Angel, grab a churro and a water side table
I like what she says in #1 and 3
what do you guys think...I'm thinking if we catch Spectro and Wishes Sunday we do not need to do it again Wed. I will PM you both my cell and if you guys want to try to meet up

FYI - In case you didn't already know, Cantina de San Angel in Mexico is closed for rehab until fall. I see that's one of the recommended spots for Illuminations - could still be a good one, it may be less busy with Cantina closed. :confused3 I'm sorry I won't be in Epcot that night - sounds like a fun DISmeet in the works!

Epcot - World Showcase (April 30)
I’d still like to get to the park when Future World opens at 9 so we can head towards the character spots and get some autographs and pictures. We also may be able to ride Journey into Imagination again before eating breakfast at Sunshine Seasons.
I want to sign the kids up for a Kim Possible mission at 9 so hopefully we can start one really close to 11 when World Showcase opens.
We enjoyed the Kidcot stations so much last time, I’m hoping my nephew doesn’t think he’s too old this year.

We plan on heading into World Showcase on the Canada side and leisurely making our way around...

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/IMG_4184.jpg
I want my niece to be able to see as many characters as she can this day, but I’m thinking that will depend on how long the lines are.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt246/PeterPanFan22/IMG_4171.jpg
I also want to do my own little “eat-around-the-world” and get a little something from each country that we all can share. popcorn:: I’m hoping this works out.
This evening we will also be going to Downtown Disney. I like to save this for the end of our trip so we’ve had a chance to check out a lot of the merchandise in the parks and we know what souvenirs we want to get.

We had an amazing time in Disney!! :goodvibes I'm happy to be home, but sad it's over. :sad1: Glad I got to see some of you! We got back Saturday a little before midnight. Sunday was spent napping and unpacking. I'm excited to start a TP, but I still need to consolidate my mom and my sister's photos. Hopefully I can start this weekend. :)
