How much should I plan to tip each day for buffets?

I'm debating on not getting the regular dining plan anymore. If we do keep it, we'll most likely only do buffet type meals (Chef Mickey, Crystal Palace, Hollywood and Vine, etc.)
There are 3 of us.
Is $20 tip per day seem okay?
For 9 nights that's $180 just in tips for sit down meals.

I'm trying to save some money. We already downgraded from WL to POFQ, but at full price it's still expensive for us.

Also, would you recommend giving the server cash as a tip or have it charged back to your room?

Not allowed to post questions about tips on your own thread. There is a sticky at the top of the Restaurant Board to post questions about tips. The mods want everyone to post there.
