Does anyone know if its okay to take cheese/cold meats in a cool bag and fresh fruit on the train between the 2 countries?

Wasn't sure if there was a ban on fresh produce coming out of this country and going into France?

Have taken crisps, biscuits okay on the train but wanted a few more healthier options this time!!:)

Thanks:goodvibes

I've certainly seen people taking ham sandwiches etc. Don't know if you are supposed to or not but it's highly unlikely anyone would check!

Was thinking of taking some mini cheeses/ slices of ham for snacking on once we got there, there will be a fridge at the Dream Castle but I didn't want to take something into the country that could be frowned upon!

I took a baguette of some sort with cheese salad and my friends got meat ones also from kings cross when we got the eurostar once, its fine

though i have a question - do they scan your bags? no..i'm not taking something illegal but I am taking a bottle of JD for our hotel room (unless they sell it somewhere nearby and its not too expensive) anyone know if that's allowed?

thanks

Yes they scan all your bags and coats, everything has to go through the machine and then you walk through another scanner too, can't help about the JD though but I can't imagine it would be a problem?

It is fine to import food even fresh/dairy/meat for your own use. It is also fine to bring in up to 10 litres of spirits for your personal use! I checked on the French custom's website but I can't post a link.

I am happy to report you can take alcohol on the Eurostar. They will scan every bag you have got, including pushairs, car seats and everything will have to be removed from your pockets (including mobile phones and also belts) as you yourself will be scanned. Trust me on this, I got stopped SEVEN times and was nearly naked when I eventually got through :lmao: (ok I wasn't, but it felt like it as even my watch set the machine off!)

Just make sure if you are worried about a bottle breaking (we took four bottles of wine and even beer through) that you tell them there are breakables and they will make sure they don't sling the bag/suitcase through ( though you do put htese on the belt yourself).

So bring take your JD and your food, it's fine :thumbsup2 (the small print on the website will tell you what isn't allowed, but unless you are taking explosives or guns/weapons.............:rotfl2:).
