Definitely have done both - but have not been to DL since 1998. Sheree Bobbins just returned from DL and DCA and said she had a great time - and that DCA was really fun. I need to get back just to check out the new park.
Plus I miss the Matterhorn and the Indiana Jones ride! Two definite MISSING things at WDW. :)

And DL (or at least DCA) has Soarin - what an experience!!!
I love both DL and WDW. Both different, but both magical....

We're going to Disneyland for the first time in just 3 days!!! To say I'm excited is a big understatement. :) :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Nutsy, I've only been to WDW. It's almost 550 miles from where I live. DL is almost 2200 miles away. My SO won't fly.

I would love to go to DL, but it's farther. I think that it would be so magical to be where Walt actually stood. :)

I *love* DL! Sometimes I much prefer to go to DL than to WDW. :)

We love DL. We were just there in April. You can still feel Walts genious and guiding hand in Disneyland. It is small, intimate and intensly magical. For a 1 - 3 day vistit, Disneyland is great. I highly recommend that all Disney fans visit Disneyland at least once so you can see the magic that Walt actually created first hand. Its an amazing experience.
We love WDW for longer visits. While Walt's touch is not so keenly felt there, there is so much to do that you could easily spend 2 weeks and not not get tired of the place.
Either way, you can't go wrong.

I know what you are saying Shannon. It's like us....DL is far easier & cheaper to access than WDW is.
The airfare from LA to FL is as much as it is to fly from here to LA, so as much as we would dearly love to see WDW, it will have to wait till we are rich & famous!!:p :Pinkbounc :bounce:

You summed up DL so well WDWHound! WDW is wonderful, but DL has a magic that WDW just doesn't come close to. WDW is the perfect place when looking for a touch of Disney that lasts justs a bit longer than 2 or 3 days, but I'll always have a special place in my heart for DL.
Hey Nutsy! We'll be there in September too! :bounce: What week in Sept. will you be there???? ;)

We are going to Disneyland but not until Febrary. Dieneyland is also much closer and cheaper for us to visit so we tend to go at least once a year. Our first trip to WDW was last year.

I grew up at Disneyland.... ANd I cant wait to go back. I miss my Matahorn, the BEST IASW facide, and the REAL HM! But FLA is 2 1/2 flight Calif is 4 1/2 hour flight and for now, with the two little ones, 1/2 the flight time is way way better.
I cant wait to go back.........

Don't be mad at me, but I'm just not interested in DL. I guess since I live here in FL it's just easier to get to DW. My friend who lived in Cali likes DL better, but she has enjoyed DW the couple of times that she went. I've just heard that DW is so much more magical. Guess I don't want it "ruined" by visiting DL. Who knows, if DH and I go to visit his Grammie in Cali, I just might have to make time for it. :smooth:

DL is great, Nutsy. I have been there 4 times over the years, twice last year. As said, it is really more magical than WDW, it has a charm of its own. A number of the rides and attractions just are not available or duplicated at WDW. PoC is way better, as is ISWA. Tarzan's Tree House and Indiana Jones are uniquely different that the WDW counterparts, Swiss Family and Dinosaur. Space Mt is different, as is Splash. You have the Matterhorn, the Storybook Canal Boats, and also Mr Toad still. The Autotopia is better, IMO, and HM is different. The Columbia sailing ship, if running, is a beautiful sight. Fantasmic! is different and breathtaking. The streets and back shops are very nice, and again, quite different.
Now, the Castle. Though small, it is THE ONE Walt bulit, so it has its charm that cannot be replaced by anything.
You will love it, Nutsy. I wish I was going soon. :earsboy:

Living in Orange County, CA, I go to DL way more often than WDW. I usually go to DL twice a month at the bare minimum, usually much more often than that, but I have only been to WDW twice, with my first time being in April, 2001. The chances of me going back soon are slim, also. I have to enjoy DL as much as possible since my parents aren't as into Disney as I am, and so my trips to WDW are limited. I prefer DL over MK, anyways, as DL is definitely my 2nd home. :) (Although I don't prefer the DL Resort over WDW...)

I loved DLR. It certainly has a different feel to it. There is the additional Magic of Walt actually having his hand in it. Then there is how close everything is, you can really, really park hop by just walking across the esplanade between DL and DCA, and DTD and the hotels are right there as well. It makes for a really cozy feeling. I can't wait to go back!!!!!

DL is the best park IMO.
Indy blows Dino away.
Space Mountain is better (when the music is working).
IASW is much better.
Fantasmic! is much better.
PotC is better.
Fantasyland (façades, rides & all) is better.
Mr. Toad...'nuff said.
Matterhorn...'nuff said.
BTW...did I mention DL is my favorite park? ;)

Well, we're making our very first trek to see the mouse.......in Disneyland!!!! We decided on DL instead of WDW just to test the water with DD. We're going to get AP's for DL and when the passes expire we'll go to WDW. Plus she'll be 6 by then and more capable of handling the hugeness of WDW. Can't wait to see the look on dd's face when she sees Mickey. Only 491 more days. :teeth:

I love WDW because it has more parks and more things to do. I've never been to DL, but I'd like to go there at least once.

I've experienced both parks but I haven't been to DL since 1978. I think it's time for another visit :)

I agree. It is really very nice to be able to walk from one park to the other in less time than it takes for me to type this.
My SO and I did three days there last August. We want to go back, but since she has never been to WDW we are currently planning a trip there for this coming Spring. After that we figure we will rotate visits between WDW and DLR.
I've seen a few posters (elswhere) who act as if DLR is no big deal, why should they bother when WDW is bigger, etc, etc. These people don't know what they are missing. IMHO, everyone should do DLR at least once, perhaps just for a long weekend. I'm sure nearly all would want to go back.
As for what makes it better for me...... It's Walt's park. What else can I say? :earsboy:
oh yeah......Mr. Toad Rocks!!!

This is great!!!! I never knew half this stuff before........
The main reason we are going to DL is that it is in California & DCA is now there also. Plus the fact that it is way cheaper for us Aussies to access.
I had no idea there were so many rides......(Not that I do rides....well not coasters anyway), but it's good to know for the boys.
Thank you all so much for all this input. I was just curious & the answers/response I got ovewhelmed me!!
I think we will enjoy it & there is the added bonus of meeting our dear friends Kama & family there:p :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

This is something I posted on another thread, but as I was typing it, I thought I should share.
Just one more reason why DL kicks MK's butt...
Tomorrow is a perfect example:
It's a Saturday in August, I think the majority of kids are out of school.
MK's hours: 9am-10pm (on a weekend!)
DL's hours: 8am-12am
Ok, how's about...let's say...a Tuesday.
8/06/02:
MK's hours:9am-10pm
DL's hours:8am-11pm
DL's main customers are people who live in the area, while people at WDW are on vacation. Doesn't it stand to reason that people will have more time to spend in the parks if they're on a vacation & don't have chores or work the next morning? Wouldn't it also make more sense to have later hours, especially since most people on vacation like to sleep in a bit?
Maybe I'm way off base here, but it seems like logic & scheduling are in completely different departments at WDW.

I wouldn't mind going to DL some day, but since WDW is on my side of the country, and it is within one day's driving, we stick w/WDW!

<font color=navy>We live about 25 miles from Disneyland (all freeway), so with our APs, it's nothing to go down there & spend a day, or just an afternoon, evening, or morning. We saw the movie Signs there just yesterday.
We've only been to WDW once - in 1999 - and though I would love to visit WDW again, we just love DL. There is so much packed in there, and I remember being somewhat surprised to see attractions @ DL in different parks at WDW.

WE visited DL this summer fot the first time and it was magical and fun but -I missed wdw, to me it is more magical there! I think because we have so many memories there. Some of the rides are better at DL, and some that are better at the world but that's just mho! Either is great fun and I think that we make our own magic! goof

I've been going to DL my whole life--it's like being home. We've been to WDW three times and are going for a 4th in October. I like to enjoy each place on its own terms; they are very different and each is unique. It's funny--people out here can't understand why anyone would travel all the way across the country when Disneyland is 25 miles away. They think Disney World is a replica of Disneyland!

We go to WDW because it only takes us 11 hours driving to get there. I sure would like to go to DL though.

If one wants to immerse oneself in Disney and a significant part of your budget is travel expenses, then it makes a lot of sense to go to WDW.
The airfare is the same whether you spend 2 days or 8 days at your destination.
As an AP holder for DLR, I love going to WDW for a long immersion...... or is it really an escape?
;)
I will take either resort "any day of the week and twice on Sunday"

Nutsy, the way I see it, most of the folks on these boards are not on the West Coast of the US, so most folks talk about WDW. But for those of us who grew up going to Disneyland, it can't be beat! With the addition of California Adventure, you'll have a wonderful stay! As mentioned before, DO NOT miss Soarin' over California in DCA. It is not a roller coaster - it is a very gentle ride that "lifts" you up in a seat similar to a ski lift. The movie, California Dreams, is worth seeing, and there are plenty of wild rides for kids. Visit the Disneyland Boards here to get more ideas.

Thanks for the info Minniecarousel.
I see your point as to who lives where. I have very few west coasters on the boards, so that got me wondering if DL was a do thing or a not to do thing for most people. We have heard from people who have done WDW that it is bigger & better than DL, but with not ever having been there I have no idea. But for us it is DL & DCA which we are looking forward to.
Who knows next holiday of a lifetime may be to WDW. Need to save up extra big for that one:p
Thanks to all for you for your throughts on both parks. From way Down Under it is hard to know if it's a goo thing or not:D But from what you have all said, it sounds ike DL is fun & tho it may be Disney as is WDW it is still uniquely different too.;)
Can't wait to see it now............:Pinkbounc :bounce:

I lived in CA until I was 10, so DL is the park I grew up with and it will always hold a special place in my heart. It has more history to it as well which I think is so cool. I haven't been able to return there in about 4 years though and I miss it. I'm now more familiar with WDW because I was on the college program last year. I think that both resorts really should be experienced by any true Disney fan or you'll be missing out. I have the DL dvd set from last year. It's really awesome. My parents both went to that park within the year it opened.

I also spent part of my childhood about 1 hour from DL. We go back every time we visit my sister who lives in LA. For us airfare is about the same no matter if we fly to FL or CA. After this last trip to WDW - I think we are hooked. My sister may just have to come visit us...our vacations from now on may all be in FL:) :) :)
