Bump is simply a way for the original poster to mover their thread back to the top of the list. It registers as a response so it gets to front of the list

i.e. "bump" to the front of the line :)

It means that someone thinks a neglected topic needs more visibility so adding a reply of "bump" moves it to the top of the topics list.
