Does anyone know what building I should request, smoking optional or smoking, regular room, centrally located to beach, pool, and monorail? Thanks.

We requested nonsmoking, but got a smoking building, Samoa. There were no ashtrays in the room and no hint of smoke, but from all Ive read and heard it is smoking. We loved it!!!! It was a quick walk from the GCH and both pools. We had an awesome view of the pool. We could also see the Grand Floridian, the lagoon and the castle if we really streched over the balcony. Once I saw the view I didnt care about smoking or non anymore. ;)

Smoking rooms at the Polynesian include:
Tuvalu longhouse all 3rd floor rooms
All of the Samoa Longhouse. (rooms X601-X610 face the volcano pool and marina. Rooms X611-X618 face the quiet pool. Put the floor number in place of the “X”).
The 2 bedroom Princess suite in Tonga and the Ambassador suites)
The 3rd floor of Hawaii concierge longhouse.

Tikiman, are any rooms in Tahiti smoking? And, is it the Princess (1BR) and King Kamehameha Suites that are non-smoking? (I like non-smoking rooms!)
Thanks! ;)

No rooms at this time in Tahiti are smoking. I don't know what they will do when they switch the concierge over to Tahiti as far as having smoking rooms. The Princess 1 bedroom, the single room suite and the King Kamehameha is non smoking. We may end up doing a winter trip to the Polynesian and stay in the King K. before the Holiday rate. We tried to switch to it this time and someone was checking in the next day.

I must say none of the suites smelled at all like smoke.

That's good to know, Steve. :)
I hope you are able to do a winter trip! We did New Year's last year (holiday season rates! Why do they have to make them so expensive?!?!), and I was stuck between the Contemp Tower Club or Polynes Concierge GV/LV before moving over to the Grand Flor. That's when there were a lot of bad Polynes Conci reports out, so I went w/ the Contemp (I originally wanted the 1BR Princess @ Polynes but it was booked, and there was no way we would pay $1500 for the 2BR Princess for 3 of us). I'm sure that King Kamehameha must be something in person, I walked past it one night and the lights were on, so of course I had to look! It looked really nice and large!

The Samoa building is an excellent location....but it is a smoking building and I wouldn't take the chance if smoke odor offends you. 2 nights out of the 3 we were there last time we had a chain smoker in the next room (or something like that!) and when we checked in our room smelled very strongly as well as the hallways. We opened the balcony doors and cranked up the AC...opened all the drawers and the closet and the smell went away.
We don't usually mind a little cigarette smell (dh and I are both from smoking families, though we don't smoke ourselves) but this was almost enough for me to ask to be moved.....I didn't want to ask that since I had requested that building knowing full well it was smoking!
Great, great, great location.....but we won't request it again. We're considering a request for Niue....any comments? (and how is that pronounced anyway?)

I'd assume Niue would be pronounced Newie but I'm not sure how the people in Polynesia would pronouce it. :)

Niue is a good location. It is pronounced Nee ou ah. It is one of the Cook Islands.

Thanks for the Niue info....I was thinking Nee-ou-ay, so I wasn't far off.
And my apologies...I hadn't read carefully enough to realize you were looking for a good smoking location.....Samoa is definitely a great one!

Thanks guys. You're a wealth of info. Tikiman, I'm getting ready to view your website. I'm sure it will finalize my decision of where to stay since you are obviously nuts for the Poly!
