They took my nephew, my dd and my son swimming. My dd was then invited to their house to spend time with my nephew (who is visiting them) but my ds was NOT invited. He was SOBBING and my mil was practically dragging him up the driveway.... she said, "Well he could come but I have laundry to do and meatballs to make." I said, "He doesn't understand that- all he knows is he feels unwanted." I then instructed my dd to go to the car and get her things, she would be staying home. My ds is 5 and my nephew is 10, my dd is 12...... my inlaws are in their mid 50's.... my fil is retired, my mil plays tennis. They are in great health. They have been doing this for quite a while, I can't believe I finally said something about it.
Update: My dh supported me 100%.... I wasn't really worried about it since he and I have talked about this a bazillion times but it was nice to hear him say I did the right thing by keeping Meg home. We have yet to speak to the outlaws.... I mean inlaws;)

Good for you!
How rotten! Like meatballs are more important than your son's feelings.

You know, my SIL could have written your post. My mom kept my neice from the time SIL went back to work until DGD was about 2, so a huge bond formed there. She's now 6 and has a younger brother who will be 3 in September. Mom has made every excuse in the world for not spending as much time with DGS as she does with DGS. The trouble is, DGS is old enough to start noticing now! My mom has even commented to me that she just doesn't feel as close to DGS as she does DGD. I told her that it was *her* responsibility to build that relationship. I don't think she gets it. :(
I'm sorry for your situation and I'm glad you said something! I hope your DD wasn't too disappointed. You might tell your MIL not to invite the children unless both of them can go. OR unless she makes a point of inviting them one at a time so she can have one on one time with them.
Geez. Why do we have to explain these things to adults.

Good for you! I can understand if she had maybe just hinted that he might want to go home, but to drag a crying child up the driveway is very un-grandmotherly. :(

{{HUGS}} for your DS and, for your DD too, I'm sure grandma's 'mistake' hurt her as well!
My inlaws don't watch ANY grandkids so, this has never happened.
I hope grandma enjoyed her 'meatballs'!!

Good for you. I must also commend you on your tact, as I would have probably suggested holes, other than her mouth, that she could place her precious meatballs in!

You go girl!!!!I finally stood up to my MIL about 4 years ago...you may have heard of her, Lucifur. Any how it was the best thing you could have done it may make her more aware of her actions.

Standing and applauding!
My MIL always talked about DSIL's kids, but left ours out. They definately noticed it. They have never felt good about DH's folks.

Hey you,
Wish I could say I'm surprised....but I'm not. I am proud of you for standing up to her and proud of DH for showing his support. I hope you know who gags on her meatballs and that a bright red towel somehow got into her load of whites!
I can just picture the steam coming out of your ears!

I thought for sure I responded to this post before.
Anyway, I think you did the right thing and both your children will remember how you stood up against the unfair treatment from grandma.
And I'm glad your dh supported you. I bet he earned some brownie points that day. :)
