We are at Kidani and having fun. We saw a zebra attack three giraffes and win. We also had a great dinner at Le Cellier. We asked for Patrick as our server and he was terrific again.

We are booked at Jambo House in Sept. Can you find out for me if we are allowed to use the Kidani pool and child's play area. We are not DVC owners. Thanks

Jane-AKL is one resort with 2 sections. Yes, you can use the Kidani pool while staying on the Jambo side and vice versa.

Mara is the best place for mug filling. There is a drink station by the pool. We brew our coffe in our villa. Kidani does not have as many ameneties as Jambo. They probably think you will have supplies in your own kitchen. We just goto Mara if we want a quick meal or snack

Mugs can be refilled at the gift shop in Kidani. You'll see the refill station at the end where they have the coolers for the standard food items for sale.

We saw a zebra attack three giraffes and win.The zebras can be very mean-spirited! We were told by one of the animal care team members that most of the other animals avoid the zebras as much as possible. They go after the giraffes, the wildebeests and even each other. I enjoy watching them when they are behaving themselves but I don't like it when one of them walks over to the giraffes and threatens to kick them. They seem to be the bullies of the savanna.

Kenya is the zebra "in charge" of the savanna... just ask him. ;) When he puts his head down and walks in any animal's direction the animals turn tail and walk away as fast as they can while making it look like it was their decision to do so all along. :rotfl:

Have fun, we just returned from Kidani - loved it per usual. Missing the lamps, music and lobby now. DS gets teary whenever I bring up our vacation.

ENJOY! :wizard:

:)You can find a list of most of Kidani's lobby and resort music on Mousesavers.com. It is awesome and I own most of them. I also have the album from AK park. Helps me go to sleep at night. We didn't get refillable mugs our last trip. We did a grocery stop with our car service and just kept the bottles in the fridge. Saved a lot of walking. Plus if you have a mug and you are leaving you have to find a place to put it away---or walk it way back to the room. We liked the smaller more intimate atmosphere of Kidani and Jambo was bustling with activity and noise. It was amazing how different the two lobbies were.

Have a great trip:banana:We go back in Dec...:sad1:...That is why I have my music, to help me through the long wait.

We stayed at Kidani for Christmas this year and I LOVE it! The welcoming entrance with the wall of glowing lanterns and the music...my 6 yr old DD would break out into a dance every time we got off the bus to walk back to the resort with the piped in music!! We are heading back for Thanksgiving we loved it so much!

A CM that works with the animals told us the same thing- Zebra are the bullies of the savanna! I never would have thought it!!!

I especially loved the more intimatelobby of Kidani and I liked that Kidani is dedicated DVC, while Jambo is so busy and large and is split between hotel and DVC... It is nice to visit but I prefer to stay at Kidani...and I think Kidani's pool offers more too....

We just got back from a stay at Jambo and we saw the Zebras acting crazy too. I noticed them the first time on the way to our room at night, they were getting after the Ostriches on the Sunset savanna. It was kind of comical they way they were acting.

I am almost positive that only DVC members staying at Jambo or Kidani and Guests staying at Kidani can only use the pool.

Any guest staying at AKL can use any AKL pool. Cash or DVC, doesnt matter.

As others have said, a refill station is located in the gift shop at Kidani. It has soda and coffee. There is also a refill station beside the bar at the Kidani pool, but it only had soda dispensers.

Not sure if you can get coffee at the bar since I never tried. Always did my coffee early from the gift shop and went out on the porch to view the savanna while I waited on the rest of the family to get going in the mornings.

Glad your enjoying your stay...I miss AKV!!!!

That's strange to read about the zebras being bullies. When we were there in Nov, the giraffes were always swinging their heads at the zebra and making them run away while they were feeding so here I thought that the giraffes were the bullies. Guess they were just standing their ground and fighting back.

Johari Treasures, the gift shop at Kidani, sells Milk, OJ, limited selections of : bread, cheese, frozen pizzas, Cereal, cookies, chips, beer, wine etc. I bring most of my dry items with us (I can't bring myself to pay $6 for a box of cereal) and supplement with a few perishables from the store, but many folk like to rent a car and shop for themselves or use a service such as wegoshop.com to buy and bring the food to them (Marge was wonderful the two times we used her!)

The store over at Jambo has a slightly larger selection of food, but not by much.

OP, can you recommend a savannah I should request for my room to face while we are there? (or anyone who has stayed there recently) One that has more or "more active" animals? Thanks, Debbie

The zebras can be very mean-spirited!

Is this why the officials in basketball and football are sometimes called Zebras?

Do they have tea bags, hot water and cold milk for the refillable mugs in the Kidani gift shop?

Hot water is available for the refillable mugs. We had to ask at the register for the teabags and Hot cocoa packs - but yes, they're free once you have the mug. I asked for a few at a time so I could just bring them with me and the CM had no problem with it.

They have stocked those little pourable creamer containers along with sugar and splenda. They do not have milk for the refillable mugs (good point as we always have milk in our tea, not creamer) However we bought a small container of milk to stock our room fridge with and never had issue with this. I also bought and stocked 1/2 & 1/2 for the coffee I brew in the room since I neither care for their coffee or creamers.
