Just curious,

What new country would you like to see in the World Showcase and does anyone know if Disney has ever considered adding countries?

I personally wouldn't mind seeing Russia because I think the architecture would be interesting. Greece or Spain would be interesting also.

I am sure this had been done before but I am new so thought I would throw it out there.

Russia - definately.

I like the idea of Egypt! Imagine walking through a display of King Tut's tomb (is that too morbid for Disney???). Or how about a "camel ride" through ancient scenes of Egypt???

Egypt would be very neat to see... especially since there is zero chance I would get to go to the real country...

Speaking purely from a gastronomic point of view -- Thailand! However, they also have a growing tourism industry, so that's a likely candidate.

However, from a cultural, coming of age point of view -- Russia

I agree with a lot of your opinions about Egypt and Greece being great for its architecture and history. That could be easily done.

Or how about something like Jamaica or the Bahamas, that would be really different from what they already have.

SWITZERLAND!!!!!!....SWITZERLAND!!!!!!.....a huge roller coaster inside of the matterhorn or something would bring more people to Epcot...and me being 13 would like to have a little thrill ride or something...cuz Epcot can be boring

If not Ireland, then give me Greece.

Good question...

Two South American countries come to mind -- Chile and Peru offering the Andes, Manchu Picu, and Tierra del Fuego.

Spain and one of the Slavic nations from Europe.

Australia is a good choice... as is Russia.

How about Kenya? New Zealand?

I would love to see Greece, but I think that Europe and North America are way over-represented in the World Showcase, and they definitely should choose a South American or African Country. I don't believe there are any South American countries currently represented. Any would be a good choice - Brazil seems logical. Egypt is also an excellent suggestion.

A country from the Southern hemisphere would be interesting ... Australia, Tahiti, Chile Argentina .. but I also like Ireland and India too!

I remember reading somewhere that it would cost at least $50 million US to start a new pavilion ... Pretty expensive!

another vote for Austraila & how about Ireland
They could also have not permanent countries
like the millenium pavilion
They had a whole bunch of countries in there for just the year
that way they could rotate every year

I am adding mine...I like the Islands one--Jamaica, Barbados...and I also like Ireland, Kenya, and Australia.

I recall seeing a billboard for 'Spain' at one time. It was posted between China and Germany where the refreshment outpost is now. There really is a large gap there where they should put something!!

I agree that something from South America would complete the continents. And of course, Australia - they could put an Outback in there. :teeth:

First updates to the existing pavilions. Add the Mt. Fugi coaster to the Japan pavilion. Then add something to Germany like the Rhine river ride they were going to have. Update Mexico a bit with some more Myan pyramids/ruins at the end. Keep the fireworks but get rid of that carousel thing with the dancing people-it looks so tinny and cheap. Fix the polar bears on Malestrom-they look cheap too. You can see where the head ends ;) Maybe they are doing this in this next rehab. Italy can have a gondola ride. The UK should add Ireland and Scotland. They also get a movie or attraction. Maybe something with Marry Poppens (flying with Mary) in the style of Peter Pan at MK. Morocco needs an attraction. Lets say some type of Bazzar/maze like Alice's maze at DLP. OOOkkk.... now that we have spent 1 billion :p

India, South America, Egypt or Switerzland with the Matterhorn would be great! I think Australia belongs in the AK as a whole new land. Add another safari and/or walking tour with animals/plants from Australia and a flume ride with Rescures Down Under as the theme :Pinkbounc

TEXAS!! ("It's a whole other country!")

C'mon, you know you want "real" Mexican Food and Barbeque!

The Alamo...
Hosts and hostess could dress up similar to Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders or tobacco-chewing hunky cowboys...
Oilwell icons...

OK, just a thought.

Second choice would be Australia. Love those Aussie accents.

It was wonderful to visit the Israel section of Millenium Village. That would make a great pavillion. The country is the center of 3 major world religions and contains a wealth of history. They could reproduce the simulator ride from Millenium Village and add some additional displays. Perhaps it would let those who haven't visited the actual country see how much is really at stake in the continuing battles in the Middle East.

VickiVM you crack me up!!

I agree with PatriciaH more rides. I know, flame me but its Disney and my girls want rides (I just like to sample the beers but I need to get them in the park gosh darn it!!)

Anyway, I KNOW Disney can recreate Red Square and I'll never get the chance to go so I vote for Russia.

When I was on College Program in '91, they told us Switzerland with the Matterhorn as a ride was one of two new countries on the drawing board. I even saw the artist renderings. I can't remember the other country.

After returning recently from Russia, I have to say that would be wonderful! Australia seemed a lot like the U.S. for having to travel so far to get there! (Although I loved it there too!)

My brother-in-law says The Netherlands, but that's just because he's FROM there!!! But since Europe is over-represented, I would have to also vote for Russia or Egypt. I agree with another post that said that the UK should be expanded to include Ireland and Scotland. That would be cool because that would kill two (or three or four) birds with one stone!!

I would love to see Russia, Greece, Thailand, Egypt, Fiji or Australia. The UK should absolutely be expanded to include Ireland, Scotland and Wales -- one little shop doesn't cut it.

I vote to completely do away with Norway and replace it with something more interesting. I'm sorry, but I've never seen a more sorry ride than Maelstrom. I was embarrassed for Disney.

Well my #1 pick would be Egypt because there is so much they could do by focusing on ancient history as well as the pyramids that still remain today.

I'd also think Russian would be interesting, or Greece.

I was born in Indonesia (you know, the country with numerous riots, looting and burning of business owned by Chinese-descents)

Epcot should have Indonesia as one of the country so the world can learn how to riot with maximum destructive impact!

I like the idea of Eygpt. Alot could be done with the pavallion incorporating the pyramids and the nile. my second choice would probably be Russia. I also throw in a vote for sprucin' up the existing pavallions.

Australia seems to be too much like some of the other countries already represented...

Also, after being in South Africa last month, I would vote for that as well... Pretty interesting country :)

I think Australia will have more "personality" than Canada. Imagine a replica of Ayers Rock, old buildings in the country near the Outback (not those Survivor's fake Outback"), with tiny dunnies around the area. With an Outback-experience ride.

Also the supply Australian snack such as Burger Rings, Twisties, Arnott's Monte Carlo, Anticol and unlimited muzak of Kylie Minogue music from the 80's!

I vote for BRAZIL

OK, I'm Brazilian;) , but I think there is a lot of interesting things to show : Sugar Loaf, Amazon Forest, Samba, Soccer and also our food...

Australia and Spain would also be great !

I really love the idea of Greece. I visited Europa Park in Germany this summer, which is a themepark very similar to Epcot in that it has the large "golf ball" and different countries. Anyway, there was a Greece pavilion in the park and it was absolutely stunning! I know Disney could only do it better ;) The ride in the country was a roller coaster/water ride called the Poseidon. It was a lot of fun and the food was great. I agree with many other posters' opinions. There are so many options Disney can work with! Oh, and PatriciaH--I love your ideas, particularly the one concerning a gondola ride in Italy-sounds great!

I was at Epcot in Nov. of 2002 and there were new buildings between the Outpost and Germany. Durning the Food and Wine Festival they were showcasing Andalusia, Spain. Are those buildings still there? Has anyone been there recently who can tell us what's going on there?

There's nothing between the Outpost and Germany these days (was there last week).

That reminds me, what the heck is the deal with the Outpost? Last time I checked, that wasn't a country. ;) It should really be expanded into an African country theme.

We came right over from AK which does the African continent so well to Epcot and frankly it looked a little cheesy. With the AK doing it so well I would love to see that space better utilized.:)

I feel like a lot of the countries that are already there need improvement. Maybe it's just me, but although WS is my favorite part of WDW, it seems like they could just do so much more with it.

For instance, they could build more rides. I know they do not have a lot of space, but I'd rather have a ride than a bunch of stores filled with really expensive things.

There is so much more they could do with Italy. For instance, they could add something with Roman mythology, or ancient Rome. They could have a museum with replicas of ancient Roman monuments.

I'm not that familiar with German history, but surely they could add more than just stores. Germany & Italy, IMO are the two pavillions I spend the least amount of time in. Although Biergarten is my favorite WS restaraunt.

The Mexican ride needs to be updated, or at least it did last time I was there , last July. The videos of people shown in it look like they were filmed in 1973. I know the Emporers New Groove was not set in Mexico, per se, but maybe they could incorporate that , somehow and do a ride.

China and Japan could use rides. China, at least, has a movie. Japan needs something. There is so much history there, that surely they could pick a time period and do a ride.

Morocco, they could easily do an Aladdin ride, or show. Or not even an Aladdin themed ride. Just a generic magic carpet ride, maybe with the same technology used for Star *****, flying over Morocco, showing riders the beutiful landscapes.

Canada could surely add a Brother Bear ride. Maybe a ride through the wilderness.

I don't mean to sound negative, as I'm sure I'm in the minority here- but I for one, can not afford the items in most of the WS shops. I love looking at them as much as anyone, but I'd much rather have museums, history, and rides than an overpriced mall.

And despite this - WS remains my favorite part of WDW. I love the feeling of being transported to exotic places, I will likely never visit IRL. I just wish they would do more to spruce it up.

I would give my vote to any of the following :

1) Indonesia : 13,722 islands each with its own culture

2) India : At least 100 official languages & ethnicities more diverse than a whole continent

3) Lebanon : It is my country !! and I love it because it is the cutest little baby-country in the whole wide world !!

If countries are comparable to Disney characters then Lebanon would be Minnie Mouse !

In March, 2001, I was in Washington D.C. at the Smithsonian Library. They had an exhibit of Disney artwork, mostly from the Imagineering Department. Among the works on display were the blueprints, schematics and relief illustrations of the castle in Disneyland Paris and the Indiana Jones ride. However, the one that fascinated me the most was a beautiful rendering of the Russian Pavilion complete with a mock-up of Red Square, a table service restaurant, a counter service restaurant, several shops and some ride having something to do with a sleigh. I don't recall, exactly. The caption beneath the illustration alluded to all of this, and also explained why it never came to be. The thinking was that at the time Epcot was being built, U.S. and Soviet relations were akin to Felix and Oscar, and the idea of spending hundred of millions on what would have been the most expensive pavilion, and then ask visitors to go to the country of our enemy and eat borscht (sp?) would not go over too well.

Now as I understand it, there is neither the space nor the money to elaborate on the "lands." It will probably be an eternal question like asking why they don't put more faces on Rushmore.
Anyhow, the picture I saw was rather spectacular.

Ahhhh, we'll always have Moscow.
