On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis, which had just delivered key components of the Hiroshima atomic bomb to the Pacific island of Tinian, was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine; 880 men lost their lives.
- Does anyone remember Robert Shaw, as Quint, telling Richard Dreyfuss about this incident and how the men were eaten by sharks in the movie "Jaws"? A riveting monologue . . .

On July 30, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Medicare bill into law. It took effect the following year.

On July 30, 1975, former Teamsters union president Jimmy Hoffa disappeared in suburban Detroit. Although presumed dead, his remains have never been found.

On July 30, 1996, a federal law enforcement source said security guard Richard Jewell had become a focus of the investigation into the bombing at Centennial Olympic Park. Jewell was later cleared.

Did you see the E True Hollywood Story about Jaws? They talk about how Shaw was DRUNK during the initial filming of that scene. The next morning, he felt so bad about his performance the night before. They reshot the scene. The final cut includes footage from both shoots.

This is pretty cool stuff today, Deb.

We were in Altanta on October of 1966. Everyone was still talking about the bombing.

Wonder if Jimmy's swiming with the fishes.

Thanks.
