View Full Version : Kevin, I was surprised that the demise of DISRadio was not discussed on the show.

There are many, many disappointed DISers that DISRadio has gone by the wayside. It seems that Pete should have come on the show and said at the end of the month it will end unless an alternative can be found like subscriptions, advertising etc. I think it was costing too much, but it also seems like the lack of discussion prior to its demise meant that he just didn't want to go through the hassle of trying to make it work.

It was discussed on the other DISRadio thread that they are still evaluating their options regarding DISRadio. If you really enjoy it, I suggest making your views known in a positive way. :goodvibes

Just like this site, DISRadio, belongs to people who can do what they want with it -- it doesn't have to be a business decision they can just decide they don't want to do it anymore. And they certainly don't have to discuss it or ask us what we think -- although it is nice when they do.

Thank you to all who make DISRadio and this site possible! :thumbsup2

The message on the DisRadio site said that as of 2/15/2010 they were discontinuing DisRadio because it cost too much. I don't remember any discussions prior to that message, about any problems with the site. There was a post where someone said that on Pete's blog, he asked if anyone was interested in taking it over. Because DisRadio has such a large fan base, it just seems like there would have been a whole lot more conversation about the problems and future of the site weeks or even months before posting the above mentioned message.

I really don't understand why you feel they needed to discuss it with anyone. Unless you are a shareholder in the company, you have no expectations to be briefed on anything. I think some people are becoming really spoiled by the podcasters candidness and openess on the show. As much as I love it, I think people are starting to feel "entitled" regarding certain aspects of the business. You are no more entitled to a briefing about the business than they are entitled to see your tax returns.

While I'll miss Dis Radio, it's been my experience (during my time on the boads, podcast, etc.) if one thing goes way or changes, something else really awesome happens. Maybe the money previously used for Dis Radio will now be used on some new project (think DAP, Project X, podcast cruises, etc.)

Are you seriously coming here and telling Pete how to run his business and operate a FREE radio station? Do you also expect NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox to contact you and discuss all programming change and show cancellations before they do it?? They are free as well after all.

For the 100 millionth time on these boards. Pete owes us NOTHING, no explanations, no decisions, no content what so ever as it relates to what he offers publicly or privately. He owns a PRIVATE company (or two I forget how many) and the word is PRIVATE.. If Pete wants to close the boards tomorrow or stop the podcast forever he can do so and guess what, he doesn't have to tell us...

BTW Pete - please don't close the boards or stop the show, it was only an example LOL

I find it very odd that from time to time these posts get directed to a specific individual even if it ultimately does not pertain to these specific individuals. Just an observation I guess.

Other than that, I'm with Paul....you can't be serious.

I thank the DIS, DISunplugged and wdwinfo for all the services they continue to provide and have provided in the past. These are a bunch of folks that have decided to share their passion to help fuel our passion. That's good people in my book.

Hookedonears,

You really need to stop posting messages that do not make you sound smart. Kevin the Genius does not run, own or pay for DisRadio....Also Pete holds no obligation to explain or ask for people's opinion on things that he owns and runs with his own money...Please think about stuff before you post.

Thanks

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

What community are you talking about? Are you part of the community around Michigan Intl. Speedway that gets lots and lots of tourist dollars from the NASCAR races each year?

On a local level, many racetracks are still the lifeblood of a community.

What if this is the reason? Who are you to say what Pete should spend his time on? I don't know a thing about maintaining DISRadio or what it takes to run it, but if it is a hassle, I'm at a loss as to why you seem to think Pete is under some obligation to continue it.

I will miss DISRadio, but Pete could have just said "I don't feel like running it anymore." and I would respect that. He doesn't owe me a thing, least of all a discussion about how he decides to run his business.

I guess it's because you are the most active on the podcast board, we often get a response from you (or Kathy to give her credit too) than any other podcast crew member. That is probably why it was aimed at you.

However it is sad, but it is just the way life goes. Thank you for what you do!

As a disappointed fan of DisRadio, Kevin I thought that you being a member of the Podcast team and being a team member that post consistently on this board, I thought that you might have a little insight into the situation. Obviously, I hit a nerve with this one. If you don't like your name associated with the Post, why don't you burn the book and remove the post.

I don't really know what is going on here, but someone has to chill. Why are you saying this to Kevin? He has nothing to do with this. If it is a private business, you have no say in what goes on. I run my own business, and if you said something like that to me , I would not be very happy.I will not say what I really would do. In this day and age things are changing in every aspect of life. The world is not the same today as it was even 5 years ago. Things get replaced. Sometimes that is good and sometimes , not so much, but you can't stop the world from going around..:confused3

As long as you are willing to share your thoughts...I'm willing to share mine.

I'm sorry that you are disappointed, but I think your posts come across as arrogant and entitled and more than a bit snarky.

Your posts dont ask for insight. They make assumptions, accusations and declarations.

I post consistently because I enjoy the camaraderie and community that has grown over the years. I share what I can, when I can. I feel I have been as open and honest and available as I can possibly be.

As for the last few sentences of your last post.....all I can say is that you have not hit a nerve. I'll explain again that I have nothing to do with DisRadio. Nothing, nada, zip.

As for burning the book and removing the post...I'll tell you the same thing I told the last poster. I'd much rather leave it up for everyone to see, so that they can things the way they are..

So, if I am to understand this thread correctly, Kevin shut down DISRadio because he hates NASCAR and doesn't understand sarcasm? There was an attempt made to sell the station to Tony Stewart but some cleaning lady named Meg managed to screw up the deal. Any money saved from the closing of the station will be invested in a font that indicates sarcasm, I assume to help Kevin better understand it.

I hope I got that right, I am half Polish and sometimes it really shows.
