View Full Version : DDP and breakfast???

For those of you choosing the DDP, what are your plans for breakfast each day? I wanted to stay CL and take advantage of their morning offerings for breakfast most mornings, but I'm not so sure we can afford that anymore.
With only one counter service meal and one TS meal, that leaves out one meal- which most days would be breakfast for us, although we will do a few character breakfasts.
So say for intstance, if we stay at the Poly, and want to grab a muffin/fruit and coffee/juice, where would be the best place to do this? Do they have grab and go stuff at Capt. Cooks (I think that's the name) or somewhere else at the resort?
I keep saying this over and over- I wish they offered one other DP option- maybe 2 QS and a TS!
Thanks! :)

We do use some of our snack credits for breakfast on things like you had mentioned, blueberry muffins or a hot cinnimun bun, we have our mug so we get coffee. We usually stay at POP and use our SC on these items for breakfast there maybe 2 times. Now for probably 3 breakfast we use our CS and go to places like Capt'n Cooks in Poly for the Tonga Toast and Riverside for the made to order omlet. Then we may do 1 TS for breakfast at Crystal Palace or Boma. Last year we went the last week in Oct. so for lunch we used most of our SC at EPCOT during the Food and Wine Fest snacking around the Worlds. Note we have a rental car and use that to get around to the different resorts and parks that makes it much easier.

I did DDP in January and I took cereal bars with me for breakfast and had a couple bottles of water in the room.
or if you sleep in, just have an early lunch. or use your snack credit on a pastry and then have a late lunch. All depends if you want a full meal or not. But if you eat light in the morning, then I would definitely pay OOP for breakfast.

We drive, so it's easy to pack things we can eat in the room before we head out. Even when we do character breakfasts I schedule these as late as possible (more like a brunch), so we still have something in the room on those days as well.

Paying OOP for breakfast is much cheaper than CL. We usually buy breakfast each morning, a few mornings we will have cereal or whatever in our rooms, but not too often. If we do the eat in our rooms thing, we will use our snack credits for a snack as soon as we get to the park.

we will be packing a separate suitcase with those individual boxes of cereal plus other bkfst "stuff" .....not sure if you will be traveling with children or not, but it saves on $$$ and TIME and allows the kids to pick out a fun snack sometime during the day...
We will be doing a few character BKFST as our TS during the week!
Good Luck

We had some days where we had breakfast at the hotel (QS), snack in the afternoon and then our TS meal for dinner.
On the days where we had an early lunch ADR, we'd grab a granola bar, some dried fruit (both brought from home) and use our refillable mug (or a snack credit for a juice) for a light breakfast. Then we'd use our QS for a late dinner.
One day we went to Ohana for breakfast... we mixed it up a lot. Worked well for us!
Have a great trip!

thanks everyone for the ideas! We are driving, so I never even thought about bringing along granola bars and stuff like that (duh!) LOL....
We're not big breakfast eaters, so this may be a good idea! My kids (8 and 4) are the same way, but we do need something little to eat...(and DH and I definitley need our coffee!!!)

We just drove last week from NE Ohio (Twinsburg). My DH hates the coffee, so he took his Kuerig coffeemaker and we took cereal bars and poptarts to have for breakfast.
Have a great trip!

We did the QSDP this past summer. We used our dessert from dinner (usually got fruit) and a snack credit to get a muffin, danish, bagel, etc. in the AM.
For me and my 3 kids, this was enough for us, given that we would have two meals as well as one more snack the rest of the day.
And, some of the places we chose for lunch were big enough that my DD and I shared, which left us with enough credits the last day to order each of them a full breakfast before we headed out to the park.
Good luck!

if you are staying in a mod or deluxe you will have a coffee pot (I think). just bring your own coffee and filters as the Mousekeepers don't always seem to refill those.

DD (25) and I split a CS for both breakfast and lunch. In the morning, I go to the food court while she gets ready. Breakfast includes eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage & a biscuit plus juice for her and coffee for me, plenty of food. Then we also split a CS lunch and get our own TS dinner. We have done this for 4 years now. Especially given that you say you aren't big breakfast eaters, I think you could easily get 1 Adult & 1 Child's breakfast to split amongst the 4 of you. Many CS locations have full meals ie, Cosmic Ray's Chicken & Ribs with veggie & mashed potatoes. Again I think you could split meals here. If someone is still hungry, you can always get more but this should work for the most part.

WOW you took your Kuerig, Me and DW bought ourselves one for Christmas, I never minded the coffee too much at POP but after drinking Kuerig coffee every day the POP coffee may taste a little different.

DH, DD and I can usually share the b-fast platter (and sometimes have a leftover yogurt that was a CS lunch dessert).
Then DH and I usually share a CS lunch. Plus you each have an afternoon snack.
We've never lacked for food. We don't usually even need an afternoon snack -- even after sharing a CS lunch.
Some mornings we'd just grab a granola bar. I always take a box of those and a box of crackers or something.

Our cure for your problem is to book the QSDP and just pay for our TS meals out of pocket. We will have 14 CS credits each and with the trip being in August, it will be very easy to use up those snack credits for a snack or two and lots of fluids.
Look at our plan. Out of all of these meals, only the blue ones are out of pocket. The best part is that at TS meals, we usually split an appetizer and tend not to get dessert. So, it's not that bad on the ole' wallet. ;)

I am really excited about this trip. With the plan above we are not going to feel like we are doing Disney on the cheap, but it's going to end up being cheaper for us in the long run. And for us, skipping Breakfast is not an option. I must feed the beast....er, um, I mean partner or else she gets very grumpy.

I see lots of Tonga Toast breakfasts :thumbsup2 We have been squeezing in 2 per trip the last few years. That is a real nice plan.

On trips, not just Disney, we have taken cereal bars with us. Or at Disney we have gotten muffins (using our snack credits or can be used as dessert credits if they are offered) and had that in the room the next day. Or you can get it the same day using the snack credit.
