We are planning our trip for Nov 28-Dec 4th. However, with the deals for room onlys we were thinking about bumping the trip up to May 9th thru may 15th. Has anyone been during this time? I know its not value season but is crowds really high? I'm still pricing trying to see if we would save money by going then instead of waiting till nov/dec. Would free dining be announced before may? I'm just so confused.:confused3 any opinions would be great!:thumbsup2

We were there May 16-23 this past year. Low crowdes but that could have been due in part to the 27 INCHES OF RAIN WE HAD! Yes, you read that right! We had one afternoon of sunny weather.
Worst weather we have ever had on any vacation ever! Hard to enjoy even Disney when every article you own is sopping wet and you have no way to dry it out. Couldn't even shop because you dripped all over everything.
So we had to go back in December!

Oh, we went back November 30-Dec. 5 and it was great. Low crowds and Christmas decorations are up. Weather was sunny, not too warm, not too cold. Need a jacket in the evening but nothing too heavy. That gets my vote over May.

Love this time of year and have been both times of the year. It's spring and the Flower & Garden Fest is going on. In all the year's that I've been in May, last year was the only exception weather-wise. Usually it's in the mid-80s with low humidity, but last year was HOT - mid to upper 90s.

Crowds are moderate, but definitely doable.
Would free dining be announced before may?
Don't know, but I doubt it.

We're booking in May also. Just starting to look at flights from Columbus Ohio....Wish I lived close enough to drive! 18 hours with a 1 year old does not sound ideal!

Both times are nice. Last May was HOT and then it rained but we go that time every year (bot May and Early Dec) May is more crowded but managable and it is almost always 80's, we have ha a few weeks in 70,s as well. The crowds are not that bad, managable, better if you go earlier in day. Dec is sometimes warm ,70's and low 80's ,as in 08, but we have also had an occasional cold snap, 45-55. The crowds are def less in Dec but the park hours are shorter too. If you can make the trip, go for it. By the way, I've driven by myself from Fla to PA -1300 mi- many times starting when my boys were 1 and 3. You can do it. They sleep a lot, just bring a few toys, bottles, and lots of videos or cd's of kiddie songs.

When the kids were in preschool we went in May every year. That was our favorite time to go. The crowds were low and it was warm enough to go swimming. Now we go in July because it fits into school and sports breaks. It is very hot and crowded by comaprision. Before kids we went a few times in Feb. the crowds were even lower than in May but it was cooler so no swimming.

We are going this year in May too. In fact we are going May 16th through the 30th. Typically we go the first week in December. That is my favorite time of year. We have been in almost every month now and the crowds during the first week in December are low and typically the weather is great. We went in Nov of 2009 right before Thanksgiving, hoping the crowds were low, but it was shockingly busy. I asked around a little and some people said it was during a Brittish holiday and it made sense since there were lot's of people with the Brittish accent. My sister went for the first two weeks in January and it was moderatly busy then too, again she asked and was told that it was the time of year most people from China are on vacation. It's really hard to compete with the entire world when booking your vacation. So I am hoping that when we go in May it won't be so bad, but I would, if I had a choice this year, have went in December. princess:

Those are the dates that DD and I are going too! :D
We went in May last year for the grand deluge. The first day of the trip and the last day of the trip were beautiful, but it was near constant rain otherwise. This was a very unusual event, however. There is usually some rain, but nothing like what we experienced.
We are optimistic enough to be heading back down in May of this year.

We are going this first week of May (7 Weeks from today), this will be my 5th trip in May, it's my favorite time of the year to go. The last 3 trips we've gone over Memorial day and it's been hot but it was OK. We would go to the parks early and go back to the resort early afternoon for a swim and back to the park before dinner time. This year Memorial day is so late we decided to go earlier in the month, plus I had to work around First Communion and MCAS testing.

I was in Disney this past May with the everyday torrential downpours, and we loved it! The crowds were low, and there was even a time when we were literally the only two people in The Haunted Mansion. Talk about spooky! We'd definitely go around that time again.

We are going the first week of May, too! It will be our first time visiting in May (Mom wants to check out the Flower & Garden show), so I'm excited to see what it will be like.

May is not a bad time. The crowds are not bad and the weather is mid to upper 80's. We went one year and the temps were unusually hot for that time in the mid to upper 90's.

We are going May 16 to 23 this year. This is our second year going in May- last year thankfully we just missed the 2 weeks of torrential rains (we got there Memorial Day weekend when the sun finally came out and we had a beautiful week). We loved the hot temps because we love being out by the pool after the parks. We've also done October, November, December, January, and mostly March (spring breaks from school). March was previously our favorite but we always lucked out with temps in 80s, I've heard others got cooler temps in March and that would not be good for us as like I said, we like the heat, and in May that is pretty much guaranteed in FL. So May is our new favorite and preferred time to visit, although mixing it up with the occasional Christmas/New Years time visit is also very special.

We will be there May 16th - 23rd. Me and 3 teenagers! I must be crazy. We have been in May before - the weather was comfortable and crowds were very manageable. Never too long a wait for anything. Can't wait.

Touring Plans at touringplans.com has a crowd calendar. Tells how long ride wait lines are at different time of the year plus other helpful info. If you can go in May rather than summer, you are fortunate.

Count us among those who were also down last May for the torrential downpours http://bestsmileys.com/weather/1.gif
We've been traveling down to WDW every May and October since 2003 and last year was the first year we ran into such wet weather :sad2: Normally the temps are mid 80's during the day and low 60's at night. May used to be a more quiet time at WDW, but over the past few years we've noticed an increase in crowd levels for both our May and October trips :confused3

We went the first week of May last year and it was great! :goodvibes It was hot enough that the swimming pools and water rides were very refreshing, but not so hot you just couldn't manage. The crowds are what I expect at Disney... lots of people, but again it could be managed. We had a great time and couldn't complain about the weather or the crowds. :cheer2: Oh and the wait times were always great too!

We were also there during the downpours last year. Even with all the rain we still had much fun. It's Disney World- how can you not have tons of fun! This will be our third May at Disney- and we really love this time of year. We actually used to go the week mentioned by OP. The parks are decorated for Christmas and are so beautiful. But the weather is a bit iffy- and we didn't always get to swim in the pool. We used to stay at the Yacht Club- loved it there so much. This will be our first trip to BLT as DVC owners! Can't wait- 27 days to go! You'll have fun no matter when you choose to go.
