Have to skip to the end of the article, past all the doom and gloom to find it.

cool, I just hope they don't add Davy Jones! At MK POTC he scares DD so she won't ride.

Oh I hope this happens to us at last - WDW have had it for a few years now and I loved seeing him in a barrel drunk as a skunk!

Sounds promising. Does the addition of Jack at WDW mean more people use flash photography inside the ride?
Reading that report makes me think the new offer will be meal related and not straight discount. I can understand the bad attendance from the UK - high prices during a media induced doom and gloom recsessiom does not have people rushing to book hols to DLP.

No more than I have noticed at DLP and on IASW.

Am I the only person who thinks this is a bad thing? I love the ride as it is, it doesn't need the new Sparrow.

You're not alone!!
It's a classic ride and doesn't need Jack just like, IMO, Small World doesn't need the Disney characters :)

I used to before I saw it at MK, however it doesn't make a massive change to the ride and the kids love spotting him. I think it is good to update things.
If they can add it to the original DL ride which Walt Disney worked on then keeping the DLP one the same is pointless.:confused3 Walt was always for change and progress too.:)
My main gripe is the 'harmoginastion' of the parks.
I'd like a different type of ride experience when visiting different parks.
OK POTC is very different at DLRP and WDW anyway but still :)

I totally agree with you Luke, I enjoy seeing the differences in the "same" rides. As much as I love Captain Jack (;)), I'd rather not see him in DLP.

Yep, I love Small World being different between WDW and DLRP, same with Tower of Terror.
I can fully understand why they'd put Jack Sparrow in, why not make use of such a succesful character. I'd just rather they didn't :)

DLP POTC is different enough from MK, even if they do add the characters from the film. Even the queuing area at DLP is an attraction by its self.

Yeah, POTC at DLP will always be better than the one at MK, regardless of whether or not they add Captain Jack.

i would actually be more than happy to get my june break with an 'all your meals for free offer' and plan to have character meals for each lunch (using the dinner voucher) and then grab a quick take-away dinner (using the lunch voucher).

I would rather not see him in the attraction. I perfer it the way it is.
I'm not sure how adding him in the attraction is going to pull in the punters and get them out of debt. They could spend the money on fixing all the things that are bad in the park then sticking him in a ride that doesn't need him.

Can't say that I'm bothered either way, if those in the know think it will help increase profits then I'm all in favour, I would rather see Jack in POTC than the naff fairground rides aka Toy Storyland in the Studios.

It is something to advertise as "NEW" I guess.

Despite explaining several times to them that the ride came before the films; my 2 kids just dont understand why Jack isnt in it.
Kids really liked spotting him in the WDW version - he has been very subtly added - doesnt spoil it at all. IMHO definitely an improvement.

to be honest if doing this would cost a lot of money then i would prefer they didnt do it at all. i dont think people would be that excited about an extra figure on a ride that they would book a trip just to see it. as much as i am not excited about toy story playland i can see how people would see a new land advertised and think hey lets go see that. if it was something they could do well but not costing a lot then fair enough but there are many parts of the part that could use a face lift before a perfectly good ride gets one

If they are clever with how they market it I think it will make a good advertising campaign.

Its a shame that DLP are not very good at marketing, well thats my opinion anyway :lmao:

I was more interested in the doom and gloom bit. It means that prices will have to go up. If park attendances are up but still loosing money, they need to increase their margins. This means they either cut costs or increase prices.
It also hinted that discounts may not be as generous this year compared to last.

yeah i noticed on some shareholder thing i got it said that they would have to reduce discounts offered. i understand why they need to do this but people arent going to pay more money for a run down park. there are hardly any shows to talk of, a lot of the park needs refurbishing and with the staggered opening hours seen last year it doesnt look good, particularly to first time visitors.

I think first time visitors will pay whatever though because they are not used to the deals what have been offered before. They would know no better about what shows were on before etc.
DLP are more likely to lose the regular visitors.

not that im a regular (compared to some lol) but unless a good price comes out, we just cannot afford to go this year, and maybe not even next year. the way the prices are, i can now see why ppl say go to usa instead.....
i would like to go for halloween, but at nearly £1000 for 3nights theres no way we can do it. already considering camping for a summer holiday as its cheap :sad2:

i think they are more than likely going to lose a lot of both. if they want visitors who arent fanatics like us :rotfl2: to return they have to wow them. a park in need of a lot of refurb with little entertainment and high prices to boot wont do that

Thing is if i had booked for my first time to go now I would probably be woowed with what they have got because I would of not known any better.
The NGF will appeal to a lot of first timers who will be willing to spend the money to go, where to the regulars its just another rehashed version of Mickey's Magical Party just with a few new characters for a more expensive price.

but are these people likely to return. a lot of people i know have went once and thought seen it done it and thats the end of it. i dont think they are thinking long term to be honest.

They may not be likely to return but as long as DLP get enough first timers through them gates spending money and trying to make them a profit then they will be happy.
Sadly right now DLP doesn't care much about its regular customers, if they did they wouldn't be wasting money on attractions that look like they imported them Chessington World of Adventures.

As much as I find Jack easy on the eye:lovestruc I much prefer coming off the ride and seeing him in the flesh:faint: An animatronic just doesn't do it for me:rolleyes1
I really think there are many areas of the park in need of attention rather than tinkering with something which is not necessary. No wonder their profits are down:sad2:

I'm not a Jack fan so to me its a huge waste of money and resources.

I can remember us discussing this a few years ago when POTC went down for major refurbishment and we were all expecting Captain Jack to be added, just like he had been at WDW and DLC. I've only seen the additions at WDW but it's very discreet ~ a nice touch if you're in favour but nothing to get upset over if you're not. I can't understand why the powers would be would add this now ~ IMO the time for this has passed. :confused3
I'm looking forward to hearing what everyone thinks of the new TSL once they've seen it for real. I know I said on another thread that I thought that parachute drop thing looked a bit tacky but it will be interesting to hear what people think once they've actually seen and experienced it. :)

When is the next Pirates film out? They might do it to coincide with that.

On stranger tides is out summer 2011, but I agree keep him as a meet and greet and leave him out of the ride.pirate:
