After 2 years of "thinking" about the cruise I'm finally ready to book. We're not going til Oct. 2003, but it's good to know a definite date instead of "someday." I've settled on the 4 night in a Cat. 10 and thanks to you guys I know to request one of the "secret port hole" rooms. If those are already gone, what would a good second choice be? We cruised on Carnival on the very bottom level in the very last room at the back of the ship last year. None of us noticed any movement, so I guess we're not prone to seasickness.

Is there anything else I should know BEFORE booking? Thanks! I'm sooo excited.

I would check all the weeks for pricing in October if you can be flexible on your date. You may be able to save some moola by doing this.

Just be advised that October is still hurricane season so be flexible! DCL will do a GREAT job keeping you safe and providing an awesome experience, but they WILL alter the itinerary if necessary to keep everyone safe.

We were on the 7th sailing of the Magic when the cruise line launched (we'd been booked earlied but with the delay ended up in August) and Hurricane Bonnie came roaring in. We departed Nassau early in the afternoon and did not go to Castaway Cay. DCL made up for it...served drink of the day comp, and also comped wine with dinner both nights.

Personally my best comp was getting to chat with some DCL management types about their contingency planning (Launch team was still on board and I teach this stuff!)

Some of the passengers were NOT happy but having been through massive wind storms far less severe than hurricanes we were quite pleased about the safety!

We're locked into a certain week because of DD's fall break. I took a chance this morning to see if her school system knew when it would be next year. It's the first full week of Oct. I'd wanted to do the 7 day, but Magic is dry docked that week.

I won't be too disappointed if I don't get to go to the ports. Looks like there's plenty to do on the ship. I wasn't thrilled w/Grand Cayman or Cozumel last year (my fault for not booking an excursion, but our baby was only 15 months old.)
