Where do you get these mugs and how do they work? I stay on Disney property, but it is not a Disney hotel. I stay at the Shades of Green, which is a military hotel across from the Poly.

Thanks!

Thanks! They sell them in all the resort food courts (I don't know about Shades of Green) you pay once and can get free refills of coffee, tea, soda and such. Officially its for use only during that stay and at that resort, but I've never seen it enforced, old mugs and mugs from other resorts are seen at food courts all over Disney resort properties.

Shoot. They won't work for us. Shades doesn't have a food court, just a few restaurants and a sports bar. But thanks for the info!

Were they a red background with character pix all over? I am thinking of just packing our mugs from last year and trying to use them anyway.

10 days until we go again...deep breath...

Glad that I found this post bc hubby and I were wondering....how much does a mug cost? We're trying to figure out if it's worth buying them for a week long stay. We have a baby so I'm thinking not only will we have drinks, but we could also fill up juice and water for the little guy. Thoughts?

Juice is not one of the options, however, if you drink coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or sodas - we feel it is well worth it. Those drinks average about $2.00 each so once you have ordered a drink 7 times, you break even.

I agree! I completely understand from a cost basis that it makes more sense to have one style, but I do miss the individuality of the resort mugs too! :sad1:

The mugs are out at POR (as of 2/26/10) and slightly different from last year. The mug we had last year had about 2 inches of white on the bottom part of the design and was smaller than the rest of the mug. This year the mug was the same pattern as last year but it went all the way down the mug and was one size all the way down.

I definitely plan to buy new mugs each time they issue a new design, be it resort specific I don't have or a new "generic" one. (I'd prefer resort specific of course!!!) If they aren't going to give me something new to buy, then I'm really tempted to just reuse what the Mouse sold me last time! :rotfl:

Went last year but didn't get a mug. I have a few ????s about them. I see the mugs tend to bring some controversy and I don't mean to stir any up here. I really want to know.
1. If I buy my mug at POR can I only refill it there???
2. Can these be refilled at the parks???
3. Is there a way to distinguish 1 mug from another??? (Heaven forbid my DD12 drink out of her brother's mug---ewwww )
4. Can you buy them at the parks???
5. Can you use them at the water parks??? ( I think you need a bar code thing at the waterparks.

Thank you for all you help.:thumbsup2

First off welcome to the DIS and you are right there are some topics on here that are very hot and controversial (mugs and pool hopping are probably the worst). lol

1. Technically it is good at that resort for the length of your current stay, however at the present time all resorts are using the exact same mug, so there is no way to tell which resort you bought that particular mug from

2. They can not be refilled anywhere except the resorts

3. The mugs they are currently selling come in three different colors (the body of the mugs are the same, but the handles and lids are either yellow, red, or black), so as long as you have no more than three people each can get their own color

4. They can only be purchased at the resort food courts

5. The mugs sold at the water parks are different from the resort mugs and yes with those water park mugs you can purchase a bar code to reuse them on a different day.

I just thought I'd let you know that when we had a refillable mug on our 2008 trip, apple juice was an option on the dispenser. Now I know that was a couple of years ago and what's available may have changed, but thought I'd let you know it at least used to be an option.

wonder if apple juice was available when we were there last year because we usually bought a bottle of it or milk and gave it to dd that way.

i'll have to look for that this trip

I didn't notice any Apple Juice @ the Contemporary on my last trip (early Feb. 2010). I DO like the Light Lemonade though! As I recall Pop Century's food court (or was it All Star Music or both?) had a LOT more beverage choices (Sprite Zero was one I think) for the refillable mugs, besides MUCH bigger stations. Perhaps only some resorts have it as an option? :confused3

I know that POP and All Star's had Apple Juice the past few years. CSR did not. CSR did not have hot chocolate available for the mugs either. I guess the selection depends on the resort.

I think WL in Oct. 2009 and Cont. in Nov/Dec 2009 and again in Jan/Feb 2010 had hot chocolate for the mugs IIRC...

When we stayed at WL years ago, they had hot chocolate available for the mugs. I believe PORFQ did too, but I am not sure if that is still true. I was surprised that CSR did not. Maybe we should compose a list of what is available to refill your mugs with at each resort.

When we went on 2008 we stayed at CSR and we used the fountain machines for coke etc and DF would also get me hot chocolate in the mornings as well (he got tea a couple of times, but I wasn't too keen).

Actually they only had the design with the thin white on the bottom for about a month last year and then changed to the tappered one with the design to the bottom. We were there the end of May beginning of June when they changed them half way through our stay.

If they change the design it usually comes out in May.

Last trip they did not have apple juice as an option at Pop any longer.

Apple-less is a bummer though, especially for those trying to be healthier with the kiddos...

Typically the new mug is introduced when they run out of the old product. There hasn't been anything said about a new mug coming out this year. The characters on the mug still go with this years focus on give a day get a disney day.

We stayed at AK Villas last year and bought 3 mugs all red with a red design-that was in March 2009

We started collecting them . Don't know if design has changed since March 09in which case we'll have a new design to collect.

Two quick ideas for IDing your mug!

1. I took our sharpie (on hand for autographs) and put a hidden mickey on mine!

2. We had brought small "carabiners" that we were using to hook the mugs to our stroller. As these were in different colors, they became a good way to ID as well.

I havent been in a year and cannot remember but what is the design again? The red mugs or the blue ones...?

I dont think they'll change until 2011 and for those of you at shades of green just take a bus to any of the all star resorts and grab them but the best part of them is getting to refill them at the drink fountains for free so you wont get that advantage :/

They are great to take home though my sister is a nany and always brings her coffee with her the kids LOVE her disney mugs! And a few of ours that we've had for about two years are fading because they have been through the wash SO many times and are so loved the kids get so upset when they can barely see the charachters on them lol!

I'm disapointed that the new mug design is universal across all the resorts. I have mugs from POFQ, CB, & WL that have the resort name stamped right on the mug! It was always the one souvenir that said, "Look where I stayed!" :goodvibes

Wish they would go back to doing that....

Totally agree. Its a shame really as they would really stand out so much more and make an excellent souvenir for people that have stayed at each resort. Something different to take home.

I have heard that Disney are doing something called homogenisation whereby they are going to get rid of any resort specific merchandise and replace it with generic WDW merchandise instead e.g. you used to be able to go into Tomorrowland and get TL only merchandise and now you can basically get it anywhere like in Adventureland or Epcot. There may still be some merchandise, but it is being slowly fazed out :(

Just came back yesterday and the mugs are still the same "what are you celebrating" theme from late 2009 till present! I assume that they will still be the same since the "celebrating" theme is slated to last till the end of the year! HTH!

Does anyone know if they are still using the same maroon mugs as the end of '09 or have they switched to a new design? We went late in '09 and have those.
