Me me me me me meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Except, I can only have them when we are with my parents, DH can't stand to look at them, and my mom does not either, so my Dad and I have to pig out together.

Nothing better than fresh little necks, lots of broth and butter with lemon. Yummy yum yum

Okay, now I"m curious. HOw do you "feed" them?

Rinse them in cool water. Fill a sink or basin with cool water. Put clams in and sprinkle the surface with the corn meal (I like white corn meal) so that it's covered over.

Check the basin about an hour or two later. The clams will have ingested the corn meal and the water will be clear. (It's actually cool to watch the first time...for about 5 minutes)

Take clams out of the sink/basin and rinse. Rinse sand from the sink/basin and refill with cool water. Place clams back in the clear water and repeat the corn meal step. This will ensure all the sand, shells, etc. are removed from their little clam bellies.

Prior to cooking, rinse and you are done. And no sand to crunch down on while eating them.

Okay, being a land-locked westerner, I have never even heard of steamers. I've had clam chowder, from a can, does that count? I think I'd like them, but never had a chance to try. Stephen would hate them I'm sure. He likes crab and lobster to a point, but hates anything with a fishy smell or taste (won't eat shrimp at all).

I love steamers, all sorts... oysters, clams, mussells. Speaking of mussells, and if you like to take the bread and slop up the broth, you have to try the mussells appetizer at Narcoosee's... it is awesome!

I LOVE steamers, but they have to be steamed.

I don't like clams or oysters on the half-shell. Blech! I can't do fish raw (and that includes sashimi).

I can't do fish raw

Where I'm from we call it bait. :)

For those of you who grill, try this. Get mussels, clams, and oysters. Clean them (and feed them if you'd like) then place them on the grill on a flat surface (those nice ceramic grill liners are great for this). Let them steam in their own juices.

Take a large pan (or one of those large foil baking dishes) and melt butter in it. Add some garlic and white wine to make into a broth. As the shellfish pop open, place them into the wine mixture carefully so as not to lose any of the "juice". Once they are all cooked and in, toss to mix up the wine broth. Serve hot with crusty bread to sop up the broth.

The salty juice from the shellfish mixes with the smoky taste of the shells and the sweet taste of the wine and butter.

MMMMMMMMMMM. It's heavenly.
