Was it just me- or did the candle flames on the platform k.d. lang was standing on look just like Mickeys?! Or am I over-obsessed? haha :happytv:
It wasn't just you. I figure it is Disney's subtle message saying they will be opening a new Disneyland in Western Canada. It will have a dome and be climate controlled.
Here is a photo:

What was with the coverage of K.D. Laing? All the camera angle shots were far away or from behind. The only showed her face 2 or 3 times. It seemed really strange to me. They gave us full frontal shots of Nelly Furtado. Is it because they consider her more visually pleasing? Kind of messed up considering the Olympic Spirit.:confused3
Also, did anyone else find the absence of Celine Dion and Michael J Fox pretty strange?

Celine was in the music video during the opening ceremonies that featured all the celebrities. I forget what the song was. But it was weird that she didn't sing live.

I was wondering about Celine, Michael J Fox and Shaina Twain. If any of them were there, they didn't show them.

I'm glad I was not alone in doing the double-take on that!
I saw the platform and said- "ooo, Mickey! Oh wait- this is NBC. Probably not really Mickey."
I even paused the screen to take a better look. :earsboy:
(oh, and yes- we are over obsessed ;))

YES! About Celine. The video you are talking about was the new We are the World and that really had nothing to do with the Olympics.
I just knew for sure she would be featured and I was also hoping for Cirque du Soleil. (Aren't they French Canadian?)
Oh well - I thought it was pretty good. Not as good as China's, but good still. I didn't really like the poetry guy - but the whales and the floor breaking up like ice was very cool.

I'm not one for opening ceremonies, but being Canadian I figured I better watch.
The poet I think you had to be Canadian to get a lot of what he was saying.
As for other artists, I think that the emphasis on the native community was a good choice. A few stars like k.d. lang (looking a lot like Wayne Newton) were great, but I think the focus was on the country and not the artists.
The fact that there were 5 people lighting the torch was really cool, even though one statue broke.

I think I have converted my husband. The first thing he said when we saw the rings, was how much it reminded him of MM:lmao:

I told my wife the same thing about the Hidden Mickey's when I saw the platform. She thought I was a little crazy until the camera panned back again. It was probably unintentional, but a lot of fun for us Disney fans!

Ah I'm glad I wasn't the only one! And thanks for the picture!!! I was looking for one.
I loved the opening ceremonies. It felt much more personal than Beijing. Both were great- just in different ways. The projections on the floor were just beyond belief. I loved loved loved that.

Thank you for posting this. I thought that they looked like Mickey heads too. I asked Gabby, but she says that I can find Disney in anything. lol
