We booked a VWL Studio on points for early February. Due to some problems with our last stay at VWL, we had a certificate for a free night. I called the WL directly to reserve our first night free, and the CM said there would be a $$ charge on the confirmation, but that it would be removed at check-in. When I got the confirmation letter, it said the charge for one night in a Studio was $139.50.

Doesn't that seem awfully cheap? Rack rate is around $269 for this room at that time of year, and I'm not aware of any coupons or AP discounts currently available for Feb 2003. If it really only costs $139.50, that makes DVC seem like less of a deal (still a great deal, just not as much of a savings as if the room cost $269).

What's up with that?

My cousin got a studio at OKW this past January while we were there for $158 per night.

They were also offering for the summer OKW studio for $159.00.

When demand is down, the price of all DVC resorts goes down. This includes the available DVC units. Right now it could be cheaper to track down deals. How long will the "deals" last? Probably not for the next 40 years.

I was quoted a price of $181 for a studio at OKW for Aug 2-6.

I called MS today to add on 3 nights to my December stay. I was able to add on 2 of the 3 nights in a studio at OKW but had to waitlist for the third night (I've never waitlisted before. I hope I get it). Anyway, I thought I would book the last night with cash and cancel if the waitlist came in. OKW Studio Dec. 8th $276.40!! Needless to say, I didn't book it. As a side note, I didn't check for any codes, AP rates, etc I ran out of time. I may check around later in the week.

This is just a guess on my part, but I think the $139.50 is just the "internal" value that Disney puts on that certificate for a free night. I doubt very much that a DVC studio ever rented to the general public for that amount. JMHO.

I agree this must be the certificate value, but I am shocked that others got cash quotes for studios from CRO for $159.00, that is much cheaper than I would have guessed.
