View Full Version : Job hunting frustrations

Argh! I'm so frustrated today. I had an interview which I think went OK but they have just started interviewing. So I decided to check out an employment agency afterwards and it was such a waste! I've been there before (a year ago) and got the run around. I decided since I've been temping for a while and my latest assignment lasted well over a year at a huge investment firm in NYC I figured I have more experience and this will work to my advantage!
Took those skills tests and scored very well and waited to speak with a counselor. The counselor walked in and proceeded to tell the receptionist how swamped she is coming back from vacation and openly complained about the application in her hand (It was MY application)! She didn't even have the decency to tell me how I could not get a job through her at her desk, she told me this as soon as she called my name and walked me over to the desk. I just thought it was very unprofessional and disheartening. She acted as if people who temp are sub-human and I told her I felt that way. She, of course, said I was wrong. I'm just so upset because I work just as hard as people who work at permanent jobs and know just as much and maybe even more.
I guess I burned a bridge with voicing my feelings to that woman but I don't see how she would ever help me.
Hopefully the real job interview I had today will work out.
Sorry this post is so long, I'm sure the long post police have their handcuffs ready for me ;)

I feel your pain. DH is having similar problems with "recruiters" (scum of the earth in my book, but)...Sometimes you have to burn a bridge.

{{{hugs}}} to you! Wishing you all the best in your job search. DH had something like that happen and you know what? It was in his best interest to find someone else who actually did help him find a job. Now that he found a better contact at actually the same consulting firm, he has an excellent job that he really loves. Don't give up... a great job will come to you soon!
