Comprehensive Insurance for driving in France

Hi, we go to DLP on Wednesday!! I am sooooooo excited! Our children don't know yet! I was waiting until I get the all-clear from today's antenatal appointment and all is well. We will just tell them tonight that we are going to France! We won't tell them about the Disney part until we drive into the Park!!!

We were meant to fly but now Easyjet is being so vague about flying between 35 and 36 weeks so we are now driving via Eurotunnel.

We now have European breakdown cover sorted for the 5 days at £21.80 which isn't that great but tolerable!

I've tried to sort out comprehensive insurance with Esure our current insurers. They have charged us £6 for the green card (which doesn't state comprehensive at all), plus £26 admin fee!!! We got the paperwork and there is no mention about comprehensive cover for France................we phoned them again and they say it is included. I asked about the paperwork and they said oh, nothing on the paperwork, just on our comptuers!!

I want to believe them but I do not want the risk of taking a 3 year old car to France on 3rd party cover.

If you have arrange comprehensive cover for France, did it show up on your paperwork or green card?

not sure what youre after??

do u not have ur car fully comp already?? if u do, u dont need to do anything. never had a green card for france, and never done anything cept light reflectors and all the accident kit u need to have (warning triangle etc)

Yes, we have fully comprehensive insurance for driving in the UK which automatically covers us for 3rd party in France. I think most insurance policies are set up like this?

We already have the necessary stuff - just need to sort out the insurance stuff as we would hate to get involved in an accident and only have 3rd party cover!

I was covered for up to 30 days comprehensive on my policy anyway. The insurance company also sent me out a green card and a european accident form:goodvibes

I'm fully comp with AA and are automatically covered for Driving 90 days a year abroad, so I agree that it looks like if you already fully comp the insurance company automatically cover you for abroad. I cant remember if it states on my insurance policy I found out when I rang them about driving abroad.

Thanks both, not all insurance companies do that. I found a list here of insurers who offer basic level (3rd party) and existing level (same as UK, fully comp).

We're with Esure, who only offers minimum cover which is 3rd party. We paid extra for comprehensive cover but they refused to send us paperwork to confirm that we have comprehensive cover for Europe. We phoned them today for a 3rd time and insisted that they do send us paperwork and they said they would. Hopefully we will get it before we leave on Wednesday!
