What is the appropriate tip when PALO serves dinner in a CAT 1 as room service? Is it $20pp the same as the fee at the restaurant? Is it more? less? Very unclear.

The cost to eat at Palo is $15 per person, a portion of which goes to the server. Many people choose to tip additional.

It is certainly appropriate to tip the individual who delivers your meal, whether that meal comes from Palo or is 2 Mickey bars from normal room service. Again, how much you tip is up to you.

I am certainly not disputing tipping at all! I am quite a generous tipper, I was just unclear how to treat this issue as children are involved and a fee is charged for this particular dining which is normally adult only. I also read somewhere on these boards that the Palo charge has increased to $20pp. I STILL have no qualms about this charge, my interest is whether a tip is incurred on top of it. I feel it should be, others don't. Just trying to get an opinion. In the past at Palo dining we alway left a generous amount above and beyond the surcharge. Maybe the dilemma will be solved by the server by the charge on the bill and then we can add add'l as we see fit.

Sorry if I offended....I should use smileys more. The person who reported the $20 charge at Palo was either mis-charged or mistaken. DCL and several other posters from the same cruise confirmed the $15 is correct.

I've never stayed in a cat 1--I've seen people report that they both were and weren't charged the Palo fee for room service from Palo. I would tip the person who delivered the food whether there was a charge for it or not. To serve a family a Palo "to go" dinner would be a cart full of food, and the service is impeccable! (I have eaten in a cat 1, just wasn't staying there). Have a great trip.:goodvibes

Whether it's in the stateroom or in the dining room, we always tip extra for Palo. It is SOOOO worth it. The most people we've had at one table was 5, and we tipped an extra $25 or $30...I forget which. But about $5 per person.

FWIW, my experience has been that we've not been charged the "normal fee".
We have always ordered from the wine lists too. Based on the amount of stuff brought to the stateroom, the cost of the wines ordered, and the level of service rendered we have always just treated it as if we were in any restaurant - with the exception that we had to approximate the food tab.
We've been in a cat 1 at least 4 times and proably have ordered in from Palo 4 or 5 times.

I'm thinking we will ship the kids to other restaurants and enjoy a personally served meal from Palo! We have never been in a CAT 1 before and are relishing the opportunity!

Sounds nice! Be forewarned however -- you WILL be spoiled by all the space after this trip. These days when I get "stuck" with a cat 3 it seem so small! (and there's only the 2 of us) :rotfl: Don't forget that you can also get a full hot breakfast delievered on your final day if you choose.
Have a magical voyage!

You are Kidding? Room service on final day? WOW! I am ready to go! We have 6 this time (originally 7) which is why we are in the CAT 1. I may never leave the stateroom!!!! What other tidbits can you offer in way of advice?

I know how stressful this sort of decision can be so I would like to help...I will come to your room that evening and order (and eat) :cool1:the Palo dinner. When the server arrives I will ask him what he would consider a very generous tip... I will then tip that amount and tell him it is from you. As a further measure of my generosity I will provide you with my Palo reservation that evening and pay THAT TIP AS WELL.....whadya think ?;)

I'm guessing that you've cruised Disney before...???......if you have, then you already know about the great service at Palo. I asked because I was thinking that I would far rather GO to Palo than have it served in the room. I miss the ambiance.
But if you've already been there, and won't miss it, then have a great time!!!

Is this something new, or only available in a cat 1? We've sailed in cat 3 suites several times, and our last morning room service breakfast option has always been only a continental breakfast, which you had to order the night before.

I believe in "the early days" it was available for all suite guests -- but at some point in the last 5 +/- years it was made only availbe for cat 1.

We were in the Roy O Disney suite the last week of January this year.

I had read about full breakfast on the last morning.

I called / tried / asked again.

They would deliver continental breakfast only on the last day.

Two other days we got the full breakfast menu delivered to our room.

Oh No! We are in that suite in April! Wish we could have had the full breakfast, oh well. C'est la vie!

Even if you can get the full breakfast, they still want everyone out of their cabin by 8:00am. So...... no matter what you can order from room service, it would have to be delivered early.

We're in the Walt suite this coming April, and even if full breakfast is available, we will opt to leave the cabin at 8:00 and go up to BBB. We're always rushed enough on the last morning as it is, without having to worry about eating an early breakfast in the cabin.

When we do a 4 night, we stay in FL for a couple of extra days, so we're not in any rush to leave the ship anyway.

All I can tell you is about my experiences over the past 4-5 years in cat 1's.
We have been able to get a hot breakfast on the last day, and we were not expected to exit the suite until 9am. :)

We ate at Palo just a week ago and it was still $15 per person. FYI...
