The Disney website is reporting that the Main Street Electric Parade will return to WDW for a limited engagement in June 2010 http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2010/02/main-street-electrical-parade-returns-to-walt-disney-world-resort-this-summer/

Eh, I really find it hard to get excited about this. The parade belongs in Disneyland, not Disney World, and besides, it's getting a little old. Now, if they upgraded it so it matched Tokyo Disneyland's version, then it would be a completely different story.
By the way, it's funny to hear it coming back to Florida in 2010 since my family bought one of the lights during the "Glowing away forever" fiasco of the late 90's.

I'm excited too. This was my first experience with a parade when I was a kid, and even though it's been updated, I can't wait to share it with my kids!

This is a part of the summer nighttastic that will be here over the summer. The MSEP, a new fireworks show replacing wishes temporarily, special new added features to TOT and other small things all around the resort pushing the nighttastic. It is also rumored that the fantasmic dragon could get replaced, much like in DL last year, or a special tag on to illuminations for the summer.

I'm excited for all of this. As much as I absolutely LOVE Wishes and Spectro (my two favorite nighttime spectaculars), it will be fun to see some fresh things. I'm very interested to see what else unfolds for Summer Nighttastic!

I'm hoping that the replacement of Wishes is just temporary. That is my favorite, favorite fireworks show.

I'm with you, they better not take away my Wishes. I am sorry I'm going to miss the MSEP, though. I've never seen it.

Does this mean we are losing our MSEP at DCA for the summer? We have been hoping they would move it back to Disneyland where it belongs.
What is happening to Spectromagic?

Oh no! My thread killing, festival ending powers are going to work their magic once more! F&G has been lasting through last weekend in May/ early June for the past several years. I have 't been able to make it there until mid June. This year, we arrive May 27- trip planned before dates for F&G released. It ends May 16.
Now they say MSEP will start in early June--I leave Tuesday June 8, so I'm betting it will start that weekend on the 11th! Sorry for all the DISers there the first week of June that wanted to see the MSEP!!

The Mainstreet Electrical Parade was the parade at WDW the first time I went back in 1991 so I would enjoy seeing it there again. Much like with the LoW, I would like to see the lighting upgraded to some more modern LED lights. Lighting technology has changed a lot since the parade was formed and there are a lot of things that can be done not only with LEDs but with flexible lighting materials and even small LED or OLED displays.
Sweet! This will make our June trip extra special.

Yes, the MSEP is coming from the DLR.
The thought on spectro is it will receive much needed upgrades during its downtime.

The Main Street Electrical Parade was at WDW when we first began going, and I would love to see it again. I won't get to since we aren't going until October, but I would love to!
Just throwing this out there, but how much of these new announcements; i.e. MSEP, ToT enhancements, Mayhem fireworks is a response to Harry Potter opening at Universal?
Don't get me wrong...I'm excited Disney is making some changes and enhancements, I'm just curious of the timing.

This in no way has enough to combat potter. Sure, maybe the reason for them doing it was b/c of that, but this is more or less just adding a lot of little things to bring people back (especially nostalgic adults) over the summer as they really arent bringing in much new this year. I just wish WDW would start doing these types of things on a more regular basis like they used to. If you think this will stop people from going to see Potter though you are foolish.

Oh! I absolutely don't think it will stop people from seeing Potter. But it might get people to consider spending extra time at Disney World during their visit to see Harry Potter.

Yes, i think it may be something people decide to do in the summer (specifically AP holders) after maybe a day at Potter and can hope around for the nighttastic events. It is a nice thing to have, i just hope we see more of this type of stuff in the future.

I can say that the announcement of MSEP and the new summer stuff has made me seriously consider a weekend trip in June. We have 1 day of WP&M admissions on old tickets, and DD and I are looking into volunteering to get the GAD tickets (DH has 1 park day left on an old ticket). As soon as there is word when the changes are effective, I am most likely going to make a reservation!!
Can you tell I am trying with all my might to get in a 2010 trip? Surely DH wouldn't object to a short, almost free trip, right? :rolleyes1

Sorry for being stupid but what is the difference between MSEP and Spectromagic? I've seen Spectromagic many times but never even heard of MSEP. :confused3

I'd like to know how "limited" MSEP will be. Just the summer? The rest of the year? 1 year?

I have to say I am a little sad, I have already booked my June trip on the chance to see Wishes and Spectromagic (which was the parade I have always been able to remember, and love the music for!), and I am not as keen on the Electrical parade music- hopefully it will be updated!
I am not opposed to change, but since my boyfriend has never been, I was all excited about showing him something I already love!
Hopefully this is just a worry and Disney will blow me out of the park with something bigger and better! If not, I guess my boyfriend doesn't know any different so it won't ruin it for him!

Was wondering this myself...also, I wonder how long and when they'd close ToT to update it?

ToT shouldnt need to be closed at all. They havemade updates in the ride about 4 times in the past and it is all done through computers. If they are doing what they have done previous times, it should be a quick overnight type thing.

Dont worry, nothing is leaving for good. It's just part of a summer promotion. I personally have never seen the MSEP so i'm excited. From what i've heard about it, it's definitley worth having for a few months. The fireworks show is rumored to be a version of the highly regarded "Magic, Music & Mayhem" from the pirate & princess parties(highly as in one of WDW's best firework shows ever). The current rumor has it as being similar in pyro and having a new name. It is also said that it may revolve more around the "summer nighttastic" theme.

Was hoping the ToT wouldn't have to be shut down to be updated. YAY! As for the PPP fireworks, I agree that it is the best, BUT if I went this summer, I'd sorely miss Wishes, too. :wizard:

As a Disneylander, I am getting frustrated with the Grand Poobahs at Disneyland using the expected crowds for World of Color as an excuse to reduce attractions. So far we are not having anything special, other than merchandise, for Disneyland's 55th Anniversary because of the WOC crowds. The DCA Food & Wine Festival is being scaled back this year because of the WOC crowds and construction. Now we're losing the MSEP due to crowd control issues for WOC. And how much of this do you think we'll get back after DCA is built out?
If they are so concerned about crowds at DCA, they should've moved MSEP or Spectromagic to Disneyland to try and draw more guests over there at night. It has been years since we've had a daytime and nighttime parade.

I actually think you will get just about all of it back. Im sick of spoiled disneylanders complaining when they lose something b/c not only are you getting what will likely be the greatesy nighttime spectacular ever, you get contant little updates to attractions, layovers and promotions. WDW hasnt been getting anything like this for years, but it figures as soon as they do disneylanders are all up in arms about it.

Wow! Harsh and bitter! Don't forget you did get a superior upgrade to your Haunted Mansion after ours and you got the same Pirate upgrade. You are getting The Little Mermaid and rumor has it you are getting the DCA Carsland at the Studios - and I bet it'll be improved with lessons learned from ours. And you know you'll get World of Color sooner or later.
Yes, we do get the holiday overlays, but that's due to the difference in our demographics. We draw primarily local folks, so the park needs to provide slight changes. WDW draws folks from around the world, so they don't want to take down the attractions to add and remove the overlays.
However, we don't have the cool Halloween and Christmas parties, all the various festivals and the parades.

Wrong. DCA does have the halloween party. While the MNSSHP here is a very nice event, it isnt as good as it once was. The candy has really gone downhill and MNSSHP isnt even the best HP in central florida and it isnt close. I didnt get a chance to go to the MVMCP this year, but from what i heard you guys arent missing much. I heard it was a large step down this year and just not worth the price. Most of the entertainment offerings you can get with admission after the parties are over. MNSSHP is much more worth it imo.

Yeah, I don't think this is really the time for the DL vs WDW argument....
But if it was, Disneyland would SO kick Disney World's butt. :rotfl2:

I'm not sure which other boards you've been reading (I have some idea), but I don't see that complaining here on the DISboards, especially on the Podcast boards.
Sure we're disappointed that we're losing the MSEP (and have the right to express it), but there's no sense of entitlement.

Yes, but the Mickey's Not-So-Scary is so much better than DCA's. We were lucky enough to attend both last year. We didn't get very good candy at either one.
We're hoping to go to the Christmas Party before or after the Podcast Cruise. We've never seen WDW at Christmas and are really looking forward to it. From the specials I've seen on the Travel Channel, all the decorations look really spectacular. Plus, it's so nice that your Candlelight Procession is offered multiple times.
We went to the Pirate and Princess Party a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. A WDW cast member told me there was discussion of bringing it to California, but I guess that didn't work out. I think it would be very popular out here.
Anyway, enjoy the MSEP. It's my absolute favorite Disney parade. You'll enjoy it despite it's age. If it has to go somewhere else, I'm glad it's going to WDW because it means there's a chance I'll see it again when I'm enjoying your Kingdom!
