You are welcome. If someone from this sailing can add the link in the 2011 Dream Sailings sticky that would be great. That way irishcowboy can add the link to this thread in that thread.

Welcome aboard pls5286, and congrats! How exciting to plan a Disney wedding. I have 3 daughters so I keep telling myself that odds are pretty good at least one of them will have disney wedding. :rotfl:
Michelle, I thought you would want to know that Laura had emergency surgery today. She had to have her appendix out...everything went fine.
I haven't been on much lately cuz I've been busy planning mine and Ashley's trip to New York for her 16th birthday...once that's done hopefully I'll have time to check in here more often.

Good morning all...update on Laura, she's home from the hospital and doing good. For those of you that don't know, Laura is my sister in law, thegreatcornholeo(my brother came up with that screen name). She is going on the cruise with us, got them hooked last year when they came with us on the Magic. ;)
Michelle, as you figured out by now, I just don't have that loving bond with my cell phone that teenagers these days have, oh and YOU! :rotfl: Now I can't find my earpeace, so I can't talk on it while driving, which is pretty much what I do all day.
Ashley's b-day is the 9th, but spring break for the kids this year is the last two weeks of March, so I'm going to wait and take her over spring break so she doesn't miss any school. We will be taking a nonstop from SFO to JFK, so no stopping in O-HI-O for us :sad2:
Hope everyone has a great day, and if I don't get back on...a great weekend too!

Andrea---glad Laura is doing well. I have to have that loving bond with my cell phone cause we have NO home phone...so yes it's attached to my butt...LOL I knew when Ashley's bday was, got my card ready for the mail. Working on something cute for her. Well I think it's cute but ya know teenagers, not sure she will...LOL
I better get off here since I am at work...have a good day everyone.

Our plans are in the early stages, but we are SOOOOO excited. I just wish we had details. We know we will have an onboard Secret deck wedding. Kids will be stashed in one cabin (an inside cabin, with my son in charge, he will be 15 not long after we get back) and we will be across the hall in a verandah. This will be my DF and DS12 first time seeing the ocean. I am excited about that to say the least. T

Right now, it is just us. This is not a first wedding for either of us. We are going to be sending out invitations to immeditate family once we get details from Disney on where things will be happening on deck for the Dream. We don't want to keep changing things. At most it will be my parents, his parents and we each have one sister.

Patty--- it sounds very exciting to plan all this...My Dream would be to renew ours on the ship!
OK I am exhausted. Back from a weekend with my girls. Sydney(DD-9) had Dance convention...for those of you that don't know that's where Syd attends classes for 2 packed days with famous Choreographers for LA. She is exhausted! We go spend the weekend and shop till ya drop! It was fun but I had a bad sleep Sat night and the muscles in my shoulder /neck area are killing me. That's what happens when you get a King bed and one of your DD's cling to you all night long....LOL Man I could use a Spa massage on the Dream right now...=)
How was everyone elses weekend?
dismom73
03-15-2010, 11:18 AM
OK, I haven't been on in a while, so I thought I would pop in and say HI. Things have been busy around here, Ashley (my oldest DD) turned 16 and instead of having a big party her and I are going to New York to see a show on broadway, so I've been busy planning that. Soccer for her high school has started back up, so we've been chasing her around watching her games, and my youngest DD, Bailey (5), has started playing softball.
We also booked this years Disney vacation...we are going to DL for 5 days in October :cool1: the same week we will be going on the cruise/s next year. So I've been on the DL boards (don't yell at me Michelle!).
Any new plans for your wedding Patty? I can't wait till it gets closer so we can hear about the details...OK, that's not the ONLY reason I can't wait till it gets closer!

Patty I am so excited to enjoy your planning! Wish we could renew our vows onboard, owell maybe someday!:lovestruc

We don't need a rental car, we are driving down from GA. But we have to decide what day we are leaving. We don't know if we are leaving after DF gets off work on Fri or early Sat morning. But I guess I do need to work on somewhere to stay the night before the cruise. We are discussing either CI&S if we can get the good deal on Priceline and make it come out cheaper or Holiday Inn Express Coccoa Beach because my sister works for them and I can get her discount. Decisions Decisons Decisions as if I don't have enough to make. :bride:
We just took a short road trip with two of the kids. His son had school and couldn't go and the return day would have been horrible because his son is Autistic. Or either we would not have been able to do half of the impulsive things we decided to do. We went from the mountains to the beach in one day. A 6 hr trip turned into 16...but we had a blast...thats what counts right.
I just noticed someone mentioned FE...no one else has mentioned it yet...Do we want to get one going?

Welcome Quentina! It's sounds like things are getting under way...less than a year, people are starting to figure out details, etc. That means it's getting closer. :cool1:
I'm excited to see life on this thread. :cool1: I'm feeling accomplished....this week I booked our rental car (minivan from Hertz) both ways and our hotel the night we arrive in Orlando around midnight, Hyatt at the airport, and the night before the cruise, Residence Inn. Trying to get the best deal possible on everything, so I will keep checking.
About the FE...I think we are going to sit this one out. I know, :scared1:, bad disser. However, since we are doing the b2b it would be double the time and cost and space in luggage, etc. So the kids don't miss out we are going to do a "scaled down" version with just the friends and family we are traveling with. I know those of you that do participate in it will have a blast! We did it on our last cruise and it's lots of fun.

Excellent. We have p-l-e-n-t-y of time to figure it out...but I am happy to help as well. I created a spreadsheet on my last cruise that I then incorporated into a .ppt where I took the map of the ship and marked all the cabins that were participating. It really made things easy for us, and I am happy to do it again once we know all the rooms, participants, kids ages, etc., etc., etc......

Anyway, I think most people liked it.
SOunds great....you seem to already be prepared (I don't even know what a .ppt is LOL). Anyway, lets work together to make this happen!

Sorry! Powerpoint document. That lets me easily add the graphic from DCL and I can then add our specific cabins, participants, etc. in color. When printed it became REALLY easy to map out your route to deliver. I found that on my first time doing and FE I felt like I was just running up and down corridors FOREVER. This gave me an easy "route" to map out.

hey there,
wanted to introduce ourselves, we have just booked our first cruise!! woo hooo! we are newbies to cruising, not just new to disney cruiselines, so any extra tips would be great. we are traveling with my parents and my sister, her hubby and son. my family consists of Tara (myself), DH Tim, DD's Maggie and Annie.
we wanted to participate in the FE too, my sister isn't into it, but i want to include my nephew, so i assume i can just add him to my room's fe and gift for him. that's not a problem is it? i'm still figuring all of this out. my room # is 5676 i will have four pockets, (i guess?) one for myself and tim combined, one for DD Maggie 5, one for DD Annie 3, and one for DN(ephew) Cal 7. we look forward to trying this out and are already working on ideas for what to gift. it's such a fun idea. the way my kids love to check the mail, i know they'll loooove this!
one more question, i thought i had seen on dis somewhere that there were halloween party nights on the october cruises, but i talked to someone who cruised this year and they hadn't had one. i'm trying to plan costumes, etc that my girls will need, like pirate hats, princess outfits and what not.
thanks!-T

WELCOME CRUISERS!
Getting to know all of you DISers before the cruise helps make the cruise more enjoyable.
Here is some information I found on another Dis site for DCL cruises that I thought may be helpful to those on our cruise.
MAGNETS
Milliepie and tjbaggott do great custom magnet work and can be found on the magnet threads on Dis boards.
Cruise magnet graphics can be found on this thread:

DECK 12
FISH EXTENDER EXCHANGE SIGN UP:
We will need to have a person to lead up the Fish Extender (FE) program to get the following information organized for the group.
1. Your DISboard name.
2. Stateroom Number
3. Names, ages and gender of everyone in your stateroom that will be participating in the FE Exchange.
There are always questions such as "Is there a price minimum or maximum?" "Do we give one gift for each stateroom or one gift per person in each stateroom?" "Do we give a gift each night or just one night?" The answer to all of you is this: It's entirely up to you. If you guys want to set some minimum/maximum amounts, per stateroom or per person gift, that's entirely up to all of you. I think everyone just does what they're comfortable with and everyone is always happy to receive gifts no matter how big or small!
One note: IF we find out that there will NOT be FISHIES outside our stateroom door, I suppose we'll change the name of the "extender exchange" to whatever it is. From interior pictures posted of the Dream the Fish Extenders look very much like the ones on the Magic and the Wonder, but we will not know for sure until January 2011 when guests start sailing on the Dream and post back information for others on these boards.
Participating in the Fish Extender Exchange is completely optional. Feel free to do or spend whatever you're comfortable with. As for the Fish Extender itself, some people buy them, others want to make theirs, whatever you choose is fine. The same rule applies to the "goodies"! You can buy or make them!
What is a fish extender exchange?
If you're not familiar with what a fish extender exchange is, check out these links:

DIS Meet - Sailing Day:
Time and place to be determined at a later date.
Possible meeting places on the Dream for a meet and Greet:

PORT CAMERAS
Some people like to view the Disney ships leave port. As the time was getting closer to our sail away date last year, some posters in the '09 thread would log on every Sunday to watch the Disney Wonder sail away. So, if anyone is interested in watching the Wonder or Magic sail away, here are the port cameras:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Passports - do I need one?
Having a passport is ideal. However, a birth certificate with a valid photo ID will be permissible.
From DCL website:
Passport Information
Guests are responsible for obtaining proper documentation to board the ship. U.S. Government passport requirements continue to change; therefore, we strongly encourage Guests of all ages to have a valid U.S. passport for all cruises. Having a passport allows you to always be prepared to travel wherever you wish, and offers an added measure of security when you're traveling.
For air travel, however, the deadline was January 23, 2007. This means that all travelers, including U.S. Citizens and all foreign nationals, traveling to the United States by air, such as Guests flying to Orlando, Florida from Canada, are required to carry a valid passport after the effective date.
From Dept. of Homeland Security website (thanks eroinm (Michael)):
How will the final WHTI requirements affect passengers going on cruises?
U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises (cruises that begin and end at the same port in the U.S.) will be able to enter or depart the country with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID. A U.S. citizen under the age of 16 will be able to present either an original or a copy of his or her birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad issued by DOS, or a Certificate of Naturalization issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Please be aware that you may still be required to present a passport when you dock at a foreign port, depending on the islands or countries that your cruise ship is visiting. Check with your cruise line to ensure you have the appropriate documents for the stops you’ll be making on your cruise.
When can I book excursions, reservations at Palo, and/or register the kids for the kids' clubs?
120 days before the sail date if you are a Platinum Castaway Club Member (sailed with DCL 10 or more times)
105 days before the sail date if you are a Gold Castaway Club Member (sailed with DCL 5 or more times)
90 days before the sail date if you are a Silver Castaway Club Member (sailed with DCL once before)
75 days before the sail date for everyone
When is Pirate Night?
Pirate night on most cruises:
4 day Cruise on day 3 Tuesday Castaway Cay
7 day Cruise on day 4 Tuesday St. Marteen
(Information as of December 2010 and is subject to change)

WOW, you guys have been busy the last few weeks! I have a new job, so I haven't been able to get on the computer as much. I can't believe we are under 10 months now! We booked almost a year ago, so we had a LONG wait.
Welcome to all the newcomers! Here's a recap of us, my family of 5 (3 DD's 17, 12, and 7 at cruise time)are sailing in two connecting cabins. This will be our 4th and 5th (we are doing a B2B) Disney cruise, we are sailing with my brother and his family, as well as some friends of ours and their family, and our friends friends and their family. For a total of 26 people, I think.
Someone was asking about the Halloween events during October cruises...I don't know about 2010, but we sailed on the Magic the first week of October in 2009 and they had the Halloween "trick-or-treating", it didn't go well. The kids did a lot of standing around in line and most of the stations ran out of candy. It ended up being a waste of time (for us at least), which may be why they didn't do it this year. :confused3

Hello everyone!
We too will be joining you on October 2nd, 2011 on the Disney Dream or, as I like to call it, the "10th Wedding Anniversary Spectacular!"
We're departing our home in Arkansas on the 30th of September and spending two nights at the Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando. -- This is the hotel where we were engaged in 2000. This trip we'll have our 4 year old boy with us so we've splurged and decided to stay in the Seuss Suite. After a few days of Superheros, Dinosaurs, and Seuss we'll head back to the airport and hop on Disney Transportation to the port (long story -- little guy likes buses)
We're staying in a 5D veranda room near the back of the ship. (Haven't learned the nautical lingo yet). Not sure what else I can do to make it a special occasion for my wife but you can bet i'll be here researching all of the possibilities between now and then!

Hi all!
Just booked this cruise for hubby & I for our 8th Anniversary! We ended up using some of our DVC points and are staying in a category 5E stateroom. This will be our first (of many to come) cruise without our kiddies! We are soooo excited! Since neither of us has been to Nassau, we are looking for some tips on what to do at that port. We are thinking of doing the Atlantis excursion which is not too expensive at $80 pp. That is without the waterpark option. Adding that in would be $160 & that is outrageous!
Anywho, so glad to be planning another Dis Cruise!

You can actually do Atlantis on your own very cheaply. It is very close to the port (you can see all of it from the ship). We paid for the excursion our first time, but I would not do it again.

COOL! Once you take a cab to the resort, can you just walk in and explore? Can you use the Resort beach? We just want to be able to explore the resort fully & relax at a safe beach. That is the only reason we were thinking of doing the excursion.

I think you can definitely walk into the hotel. However I seem to remember you needed a wristband to access their beach. Still I think it would be much cheaper to buy it from them than the excursion. I would check out their website for sure.
I thought Atlantis was cool, but severely overpriced.

Unfortunately, we have to change our sail date to Oct 16. Our school system decided to announce today that they were changing the calender next year. This calender has been the same since my son started school and he is an eighth grader. I have been scrambling all afternoon moving the cruise and the wedding. Putting things off by two weeks is not what we want to do but we have to.
And it is costing $800!!!!! because the kids had to be put in a verandah room plus the price for our room went up some too.

What do I need to be working on? Do I need to book a hotel now? We are probably going to drive (too expensive for 8 to fly!) Does anyone know of a good hotel close to port where we can park our car for the week?
Also, I have seen pics of the cute doors, would love to decorate ours. I know we can't use tape... what other ideas for magnets?

I remember my first cruise and all the questions I had. You have a lot of people here who are "experienced" and are happy to help. There are a number of hotels that allow you to leave your car. The Radisson Resort at the Port has packages that will allow you to leave vehicles parked there while on the cruise and also provides a free shuttle to the terminal in the morning. Rates are pretty reasonable and they have a great pool for your kids. I am sure some other people have some other suggestions as well.
For door decorations, I usually print whatever I want on to magnet sheets (available at just about any office supply store) and cut them out.
I will add you to the FE list. Just let me know how you want yourself listed (two cabins or just one...room number...etc.)

For door decorations, I usually print whatever I want on to magnet sheets (available at just about any office supply store) and cut them out.
I will add you to the FE list. Just let me know how you want yourself listed (two cabins or just one...room number...etc.)
Thanks!! We are in cabin 10040 and 10038. I don't know which deck that is on, guess I will have to call my travel agent. I think we will add both cabins to FE list, as my parents would enjoy the gifts as well and we are splitting my boys up, so it will be 2 adults/2 boys per room.
Thanks for the info, I am going to try to book the Radisson today.
Looking forward to cruising! It seems so far away, yet all I can do is google cruise info!!!

Guaranteed to be the fastest 4 days of your life! WELCOME ABOARD! We're on deck 8 verandah, so we'll all have to watch trip reports and room reports to see how things stack up. How can you go wrong though? You're own a branch new ship, run by Disney and visiting Castaway Cay! :rotfl:

We love to stay at the Country Inn & Suites! Very clean, close to port, parking for your car, shuttle to/from the port, and free breakfast. Another added perk if you ask for room view a view of the port you will wake up to see your ship out your room window!

Hello all! I figured it's about time I get back on here and chat, can't believe I haven't posted since last February. This will be my and DD11 third Disney cruise and DH's second. We're spending 5 days before the cruise at WDW and then doing the 3 day after this one. We'll be part of a group of 26, from California, Oregon and Mass. I'm finding that trying to coordinate plans with that many people can be challenging.
So where is everyone staying the night before the cruise? We are staying at the Residence Inn in Cape Canaveral. I've learned everything I know about cruising Disney from dismom73 so if anyone has any questions she should be able to help, guess I should have asked first before I volunteered your services huh Andrea?
Although I hate to do it I guess it's time to say goodbye to my weekend and hello to a new work week...good night everyone. Talk to you soon.

Hi to all!!
My name is Carlos, I´m Peruvian and I booked this cruise last October. We are a family of 4, my wife, and my kids: a boy(7) and a girl(6). We are very excited about the trip. It’s our first Disney cruise, but my wife and I, made another Bahamas cruise years ago. I’m reading a lot of WebPages and forums about Disney, buy definitely this is the better. I have some questions about the language.
1) Do you know how many passengers that speak Spanish normally are in Disney Cruise? Estimated percentage
2) Do you know how many CM that speaks Spanish? Estimated percentage.
Thanks

Welcome Carlos, and family! I wish a had a better answer for your questions, but I have only been on 7 day cruises, so I'm not sure how the shorter ones are. If I had to guess I would say it's a small percentage of each, maybe less than 10%. One thing you can do for your dining rotation is request a Spanish speaking server, that might make the dining experience more enjoyable for you. :thumbsup2

We just booked and are SO excited for our first time on DCL! At time of sail, our boys will be 4 and one week shy of 3 :) I've read about fish extenders and would love to know of other families on the cruise who are doing this so we can have a little extra fun! And for veteran DCL cruisers/fish extenders, would love your input and advice overall!!
Our boys are devastatingly handsome, have the most affectionate laugh and their wit will stop you dead in your tracks. Our boys also need a little more than most, one is mildly autistic, the other Deaf (he speaks and uses ASL)
Hope to hear from other cruising families and that we can 'extend' a little fishy fun!

Thanks for the welcome! I've been 'researching' fish extenders online, and it seems that the only limit is our imagination!!! Do you know of some basic guidelines to use for size (width and length)? I sew, and would love to make it instead of buying one :) I've also been reading a lot about how to 'adhere' the extender to the door, but doesn't it just hang from the fish? Can you tell me what significance magnets have in all of this -- seems like people trade them? Also, what are some good treats to make or get for the kids? Thank you for your help, we want to make this the best experience ever!!!

regarding the FE's, i'd vote for keeping the FE seperate from the b2b's. seems to me it could get complicated. they won't want to do all of thier gifts the first week, so it would really just be our folks giving them extra gifts, right? how many families have signed up? roughly how many kids? do we have enough to make it festive without the b2bs?

I've only ever done one FE before however; it was broken up into 3 groups, I believe. About 12 cabins each. Depending on final tally, it may be a big undertaking to do for all cabins. What is everyone's thought?
When it was broken up, it was done in order of floor......to make it easier for deliveries.

At this point we have 11 cabins on the list total. (It is listed on post #79) So, I kinda think we are at a pretty reasonable number. We may have some more add on, I suppose...but I feel like we are pretty good.
Also, I will put together a document for everyone to print once we are locked in that will make it easy to deliver.

Hey guys, since some of you might see my little boy running around on Dream -- if you're bored could I talk you into voting for him to win some money for college?
I know it's a shameless plug but I entered him into a contest. All you have to do is click the link and choose him (he's the one with the astronaut). Thanks so much and see you onboard!
http://www.upromisetodream.com/ind-stories.html?storyID=5395
Absolutely! I definately will give a vote to a kid that wants to be an astronaut! I only hope there will be a space program left for him to be a part of...

For packing purposes, does anyone know what the dress is each night during dinner? What is appropriate for the wife and I and what is appropriate for the child?
I don't want to be one of those "jeans in the dining room" people that everyone makes fun of on cruise-critic, but I also am a bit limited regarding what we're able to pack.

I usually do something for each cabin...and then something else for each child. But, there is no right or wrong way, do what you are able or want to do. It is most fun when there aren't any "rules".
One thing that we had on a previous cruise was where everyone gave a post card of where they had come from (So, I would bring one from DFW...). It was really cool to have something from everyone's home town.

I can't decide either!!! I thought I'd do one keepsake gift per family, and then little 'disposable' gifts every day (glow bracelets, pirate tattoos/stickers, etc.) but now I'm thinking maybe doing one keepsake per adult and a different keepsake per kid and skipping the little treats. They all sound so fun to make and do I am completely undecided!!!

From looking at the development of hurricane Irene she will be a big and powerful storm by the time she gets to the Castaway Cay area. Early indications look like Irene may be a cat 4 in the area of Castaway Cay. I hope the island fares well since we are there in 6 weeks on our cruise and if there is a great deal of damage the island may be closed for a while like in 1999 and in 2004 after the island sustained damage from hurricanes. Castaway Cay needs a big dose of pixie dust to get through this storm this week.

Ditto here! Making personalized gifts - can definately make yours without personalization, but for your safety the gifts will be wrapped and sealed when put in your FE so names will not be visible if someone should peek inside your pocket!
Can't believe we're 1-1-1 away :) My FE is 'almost' done, and once I get an item in the mail can start making your gifts - hope I'm making you super curious!!!!

From a B2B cruiser currently on the Dream, Castaway Cay has sustained substantial damage....
http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=42409294&postcount=38
I am writing this from Olive's Restaurant in Nassau, on the Dream doing a back to back (this is the 2nd one.)
I was told by several staff at guest services that the damage is heavy and bulldozers are being sent in. A full team is en route today. They told me CC would be out of commission for at least a few cruises. Reported roofs blown off and water in Cookies II.

Hello Everyone!
Sorry for not being on to make FE updates! As you know I went out to the D23|Expo weekend before last and I ended up making an impromptu trip to Epcot on Saturday (Working for an airline has it's benefits...). I will get updates made today.
I think we are about at the point of closing the list after these updates. What does everyone think? That would put us right at the 30 day mark.
Once we have determined that the list is done and acurate, I will also put together a printer-friendly version that will spell it all out nicely. I think at this point it might be wise to get a confirmation from everyone on the list that they are indeed still interested (and on the cruise still...someone may have, as they say, jumped ship!) So, all FE participants, PLEASE send me a PM with confirmation. Also let me know any updates that may need to be made to your listing.

Our boys will be in the Oceaneer Club - I purposely potty trained him in May hoping he'd take to it so he and his brother could be together! Also, being at the very oldest end of the nursery's age spectrum, worried he'd try to wrestle the 6 month olds!!
There's a Facebook page for our group - I think we're trying to make a meeting happen?
We always worry about our kids in new environments, but they usually do great and we're comforted that we can check on them every 10 minutes if we want!!! It would totally annoy them, but hey - that's what parents are for :)

That's so smart! So nice to be done with diapers :) My little guy is actually just a couple months over 2 and not showing too much readiness, so I figure we'll give it a few more months (plus I had horrible morning sickness and the thought of cleaning up accidents just made me want to die :P).
I think I requested to join the FB group- I don't know if i ever got added- he, maybe I should look and see!

Our daughter turned 2 in July and while we are working on potty training she probably won't have it down pat.
We are having a hard time figuring out when we want to use the nursery. We don't use a daycare service at home only a sitter when we go out from time to time. Any thought?

We are having a hard time figuring out when we want to use the nursery. We don't use a daycare service at home only a sitter when we go out from time to time. Any thought?
It sounds like we're in the same boat :) our kiddos are really close in age, my DS turned two at the end of June. we don't ever use daycare (one of us is always home since I work nights), and most of our babysitters have been relatives... I figure we'll just see how he handles it. I'm not really planning on alone time with my DH, but if by chance he takes to the nursery, i'm sure we could find some fun things to do (adults only pool and a fancy drink anyone?) :) Its hard with tiny ones! I am having to remind myself that he won't always want to hang out with ole mom and dad instead of the other kids :)
