The following are the excursions we are planning to book for our Med Cruise (Sept 8th) we are 2 adults and a 8 year old girl. This one will be our 3rd Disney Cruise. Hope this helps.

Naples - Pompeii (Half Day) We might book The Hidden treasures of Herculaneum instead

Civitavecchia - Drive a Ferrari :cool1: (Our DD Madison who is 8 will be happy to stay at the kids club in order to let us enjoy this excursion :) )

La Spezia - Cinque Terre Scenic Boat Tour

Corsica - Beach Break

Villefranche - Monaco, The Marina and the Little Train.

Besides the excursions, we are planning to book Palo brunch (first day at sea), Palo dinner, and a few Vista Spa Treatments :woohoo:

We are doing the EBTA and the 1st Med....some ports we will do on our own, and some we have excursions planned for. So far we have planned:

Valleta, Malta-Blue Grotto Boat Trip and Fishing Village (MT10 BLUEGROTTO)

Tunis, Tunisia-Panoramic Tunis (TU04 PANTUNIS)

Civitavecchia, Italy-Jumping Back into Eternal Rome (CV20 ETERNALRM)

EBTA:

Cadiz, Spain-Seville On Your Own (CD07 SEVILLAOWN)

ETA we are definitely doing "self-tours" in places like Naples, Villefranche and Gibraltar. We'll likely get off the ship and poke around in the other ports also. With 6 people in our family doing the Disney tours can get insanely expensive rather quickly. Thankfully since we booked early we got $600 in onboard credit which helps take some of the sting out of the cost of the tours.

I've booked with Pleasant travel (Mariano Fiorentino). Of all of the emails that I exchanged with tour operators - my DH and I felt that he seemed the most personable. Hard to tell from an email - but he gave us good "vibes" :goodvibes Here's a link to his website www.pleasanttravel.com He also had good reviews on tripadvisor

Good luck! :thumbsup2

A word to the wise, do not go to Capri from Naples.

I posted this in 2007, after staying in Sorrento a few years earlier.

When I was on the Magic in 2007 in Sorrento in the afternoon, after people had been, and after the day in Naples on ship, I had so many people say to me, wish I had listened to you.

The island is ok, but the boats there and back...........:scared1:

And are we talking seasick or something else?

Any route on the triangle of Naples, Capri, and Sorrento, poor quality boats, rough, seasickness, bad sanitation.

To be honest as its over three years now cant remember the journey, I think its the longest 30>45 mins of anyone's life. I did it once, not to be repeated.

When I went to Capri several years ago, we took the hydrofoil. My friends who drank way to much grappa the night before did get seasick. I didn't find the hydrofoil dirty.

Thank you for concurring, I posted this in 2007, and a lot of people came up to me, who were on our cruise and said, either wish we listened to you, or we have herd from others and so pleased we listened to you.

Skip Capri.

Go to Pompeii,
Amalfi Drive
Sorrento.

Jill in COHmmm... I'm going to have to post on the ABD board & see what people who did this activity on the Central Italy ABD think. I don't remember anyone mentioning the ship being horrid, so maybe ABD commandeered the one decent ship to Capri. :)

Thanks!

And when you are there is ok, but as a small island and most cruisers go up the hill to the small top, it gets crowded and the lines for the railway to/from port up the hill get long.

For anyone on the 2007 Med that went on a DCL Pompeii excursion, how many were on a DCL tour with you? Did you have one guide at Pompeii for the whole group or did they break you up into smaller groups? Would love any input on how DCL handles this excursion.

Here are our current plans

Valletta - we're going to have a wander round by ourselves.

Tunis - still deciding which tour to do, I think we will do a half day DCL one.

Naples - train to Pompei and just see what it's like, I'm not sure if we'll want to tour the whole day so may just see certain parts we like the look of (need to get a guide book)

Civitavecchia - train to Rome and just take in the sights, again we'll probably spend a few hours there.

La Spezia - DCL Pisa, I think this will be the easiest option for us and it will be nice to have a tour of some sort on the vacation.

Ajaccio - DCL - still deciding which tour we'd like to do.

From previous experience is the ship quiet during the port days? As we have a few half days planned it would be nice if it's not too busy :beach:

Thanks Andrew DEREK UK about the boat advise, I will tell my DH we're not doing that - I think he will agree ;)

When we went, there were probably four or five (at least) DCL tour groups there, but our group was about 40 people. We had our own guide all day. They give your headsets to listen to your tour guide, so I didn't feel like it was overcrowded or difficult to follow him.

Sorry to disagree, but my wife gets extremly sea sick and had no trouble on the boat to Capri. We went later in the summer mid-July so maybe that is the difference.

We didn't have any trouble either on the boat to Capri. We sat inside and it was fine. Didn't smell, wasn't rough water...and it was full of people.

I've had folks who have done this excursion through ABD tell me it wasn't bad also, and that they had a very nice boat. I guess it may depend on who you end up going with....

Similar experience, in December. Traveling on our own, we took the hydrofoil from Naples to Capri and had no problems. The hydrofoil seats were comfortable, I could see out, and even though I am quite prone to motion sickness, had no problem. Leaving Capri, for variety we took a smaller ferry to Sorrento and took the train back to Naples.

I think a lot must depend on the day you happen to travel.

That said, Capri was nice but it is not on our repeat list.
