Right...I think I have been convinced to get the Eurostar from Ashford, thanks for all the great advice... :worship:

Are there any dis-advantages to catching the Eurostar at Ahsford rather than St Pancras?

Do you pre-book your seats so that we are all sitting together? Can you book 4 seats with a table, is this extra?

What time would we need to be at the station to catch the 10.28?

Thankyou! :thumbsup2

If you book your tickets via Eurostar over the phone you can ask for 4 seats with a table and that you would like to be sat together, I think you can do this via the website though not 100% sure.

I always get the train from Ashford, and if my Dad didn't have to go work early we would probably get there around 8.30ish but we dropped off there for 7am and check in opens at 7.30.

I think that's your choice, though obviously it cuts the journey time down form Ashford, but consider if you have to stay over night etc. Ashford is cheaper and you don't have to trudge through London to get to the train.

Yes you can prebook your seats via the Eurostar website (other sites you will be asigned what they give you.....and no it doesn't cost any extra

I usually check in about an hour before, but I know someone on here that like being there super early... ^^looks above^^ ha ha ha ha ha :lmao: Each carriage is assigned it's own section of platform so don't worry about crowding/not being able to get on!
Thankyou!

Hope this helped :thumbsup2

Where are you coming from? We are in Hertfordshire, and while our trip to catch the eurostar at Kings Cross was pretty seemless, getting home again was not as good. It was just too late for the kids, we wished we had gone too and from Ashford then at leasts the last part of the journey home would be in the comfort of our own car and didn't require changing trains with two small children.

Also when we weighed it up, the parking costs versus the train to the Eurostar is about the same.

also if you fancied an extra night holiday the holiday inn in ashford lets you park your car for the duration of the holiday and gives you a free taxi service there and back for the cost of a night hotel room. which is quite nice to wake up and be close by. For my holiday this year the hotel room etc works out the same price as the parking at ashford

Thankyou all very much for the info. I think we will travel down on Saturday afternoon, and stay in the Holiday Inn so we dont have far to go the next morning...and it's reassuring to know the facts about the Eurostar.

Do all the children get a goody bag, what is in them?

Thanks again!

Hello, we live in Devon and always go by eurostar rather than fly (do not like flying :lmao:).

We find that it is easier to go to ashford to catch the train. We travel up the day before and book our accomodation through ashford tourist board who do good price deals for hotel/parking.

The holiday inn bags for the children - um - alot of the time we go and they are "out of them" ... think when they had them once (not ashford) it had a disposable camera, some colouring etc). Kids under a certain age also eat free at dinner if the parents eat (or they used to).

If you book direct with eurostar you can tell them where you would like to sit, which I like to do. The only thing I would say is you do not have long to get on the eurostar when it arrives - it is always manic for five minutes :lmao:

But this isn't a direct train and it take 3 1/2 hours with a change in between! St Pancaras and Ashford are for the direct trains (all beit Saturdays and Tuesdays at the moment when you will change at Lille). but the shortest journey time, I would stick with Ashford :thumbsup2
