Part II – Day One of the Much Needed February Trip

Michael, 13 – Carol’s nephew
Me – tour guide, addicted to Disney
Grant, 14 my son and Disney pal
With my innate sense of direction (and the fact I had studied the map), we found our way to All Stars. We stayed on-property one night, or I should say a few hours. Why we did this will be explained further into the report. By the time I walk into the All Stars lobby, it’s getting close to 3:30 am I think. At least that’s a good time to check in – no lines! My pre-paid reservation was found with no problem. I was given keys and a map with the room number and location. We were assigned to Room 9906, building 9, 3rd floor, Toy Story. (I still have the paper to prove it – why I say this is coming up – it’s that darn communications problem we’ve run into twice already tonight).
Back to the car, and off we go to Toy Story. We found it alright, but there’s no handicap parking available, so I drop everyone and luggage off at the curb – Building 9 Toy Story. I parked the car in the only available spot – farthest away from the buildings. I finally find everyone outside room 9906 – they say none of their cards work – tried mine and it didn’t either! My thoughts were – “Oh great – getting close to 4:00 in the morning, I’ve been up for 23 hours at this point – now I have to go deal with the front desk! With that, we heard the door make noises , and a very sleepy man simply said – “You’ve got the wrong room.” We apologized profusely. He was so nice about it. Everyone looked at me and said, “Now what?” “Let’s go find a house phone and call the desk.” Michael said he saw one on the first floor next to the elevator. (Bless his little observing heart!). We pile in the elevator, find the phone.
A very nice female CM answered the phone. I explained where we were and what had happened. She said, “Let me check.” She came back and said, “I don’t understand, there shouldn’t be anyone in that room.” I asked if there was anything available in Fantasia, as that was where I really wanted to stay. She said, “That’s where you’re supposed to be!” “Room 8906, Building 8, 3rd floor”. Back to the car, pile us and everything in, and off to find Fantasia. Found the room, keys worked this time. Then I discovered my Mickey watch was missing. (More on this later) At this point I didn’t really care. I know it was 4:30 before lights went out.
