Oh yeah, I agree!!! We're in DE and it just started here a few hours ago but just knowing its going to last until tomorrow night is giving me cabin fever. Also soooo looking forward to a wonderful beach vacation in June at HHI - have to keep thinking nice sunny beach thoughts to weather this storm!!

The threat of the bad weather is what prompted me to book a trip in September. I just love all the planning, it keeps my mind off of all the snow we will have to shovel tomorrow. Aaaah I can't wait to relax at the BCV.

I'm in Alexandria and I agree I'd much rather be at Disney. Although I'd pretty much take anywhere without snow over here right now! Any guesses on how long its going to take us to dig out? I've only been stuck inside for a day and I'm already antsy to get out!

I am so sorry for you all. After watching the news and hearing all the bad conditions you have going on right now, I am very thankful we just have to put up with rain. It gets unbearably hot here in July and August, but at least we can get out of the house and find air-conditioning when we get heat induced cabin fever. I am hoping, for you, that it will not be as bad as they think. At least you have the Super Bowl to watch. Good luck!

In Falls Church, VA ... 8 miles west of the White House...and it's really weird looking outside...all the shrub and low-lying tree branches are bent way over, creating a shrouded white/grey landscape that defies description...I've never seen anything like it...
I suppose it's pretty...but it's too strange looking for "pretty" to sink in...
We're due to fly down to Disney tomorrow (Sunday)...flight is scheduled to leave at 11:30 am...can't tell you how hard I'm hoping the plane flies (even if late)!
The big challenge will be getting to the airport...the storm is forecast to end by tonight, so I suspect the main roads will be driveable by the 8:30 or 9 a.m. time I "should" leave...but there's a mile between me and a main road...and it's a mile of rolling hills (that resemble mountains in this weather!)...I plan to walk it if my street isn't plowed...I may arrive at Disney w/basically nothing (other than my absolutely required laptop--I have to work next week--which weighs 7 pounds and will feel 10 times that by the time I hike out to the main road, I'm sure)...
That's ok...I need a new wardrobe of Disney t-shirts anyway (grin!)...
Leaving behind my dog w/a 25-year-old guy (friend of DS) who will watch him for me the five days I'm gone...he's already volunteered to do all the shoveling out that will be required Sunday-Monday...makes me VERY glad we invited him (and he came) w/us on our Jan trip...he's so happy to have a way to "thank us" for that and I'm so happy I don't have to worry about dog or shoveling once I get out of town!
Wonder if things will still be in a state of paralysis when I get back Friday, 2/12? This is a monster storm/pile of snow...hard to see how DC, which really does not cope at all well w/snow, will be back to anything like normal in "only" five days!

We're in Alexandria too. Tons of snow and a tree fell on the back deck. Cannot wait until HHI in June.
My 4 year old put on a tank and shorts yesterday and packed her backpack and said "I'm done with all this snow. I'm going to pretend Disney World."
OP, add me to your neighbors. We are here in the panhandle of West Virginia (Charles Town) (I work in DC via the MARC train). We are well over 2 feet of snow and it's still snowing here. We, obviously, still have power, but have seen many folks in VA and MD (and DC) have lost power and that it going to be hard for them. We are still looking at another 6-9 inches before it's done tonight. Luckily for us, we don't have the winds that areas south of us are getting, but we sure are getting more than our share of snow. Pretty sure the Federal Government will be closed on Monday, and if Metrorail outside stays shut down, not sure when we will get back to work!
Here's the sad part, this time last week I was walking around EPCOT and it was 76 degrees out!!! But with my next trip 4 weeks away today, I at least have something to focus on.
My DH is out pushing snow with his 4 wheeler w/snow blade and he'll be out all day because he won't stop until all of our neighbors are taken care of !

We are in Clinton, Maryland and thankfully, we still have heat, as there are several hundred thousand customers with power outages in the dc-md-va area. I've lost two tall (30 plus feet) cedar trees over night - the weight of the snow has them on the ground. The snow was 2 feet tall against my patio door and when I opened to let the dog out - I had to scrape the snow away to get it to close again. Then, the dog (elkhound) was so happy in the snow, she didn't want to come back in! Plus I was afraid she would climb over the fence where the snow was really deep - all this in my Tinkerbelle robe! She's back in now and she's not getting back out unless I have her on a long leash.
I was at BWV until Jan 22nd and I wish I was still there!

PS. In the past, the Cape May police have been wonderful, actually checking in on them when there was a question/concern.
Still here in Charles Town, WV and our fence is slowly disappearing. My DH pushed our drive way out, but he said it was nearly impossible to do even with a 4 wheeler and snow blade. He's usually out helping others, but the snow has beat him down and he's inside now for awhile. Our snow drifts are well over 4 ft in some areas. We are lucky that we still have power, but we also have a generator to use if needed and a woodstove and plenty of wood!

We live in Coulmbia MD, during the school year and York,PA when schools are closed. We came up to PA on Thursday night because it was supposed to be better up here. DH is a snow plow driver in MD and felt we were better off up here. Well I woke up this morning and no heat. VIA phone DH thinks it is a bad breaker which means no heat til he gets home and that doesn't look like it will be happeneing any time soon. He said they aren't even doing their regular routes right now instead it has been about helping the state workers keep snow emergancy routes open for ambulances. I swear I hate snow. We went to WDW for Christmas this year and were supposed to leave the day of the storm in December. We had to postpone the trip a few days, DH couldn't come with us due to being emergancy personel so we cut the trip short and now have 75 points in holding. I swear I hate snow. Rant over.

We lived in Colorado for over 25 years and when it snowed that much, you would go out with a broom and knock the snow off of your trees and bushes. That way you might be able to save them. I know the snow is deep now, but it's just going to get worse. Good luck!
P.S. Try not to stand under the tree limb that has all of the snow on it as you'll get buried when you knock off the snow. :rotfl:

Bless the wonderful folks at Disney...
Today, our airline let us check in and print boarding passes...check again at 4, to be sure, cuz MS was closing at 5...all was good to go.
At 6, they canceled our flight.
Got on a new flight Monday...now how to salvage our reservation, w/MS closed?
Called the Contemporary (we're staying at BLT)...they are holding our reservation til our arrival on Monday...
Bless them; bless them; bless them...now, on to praying that we get out Monday!
Power blew for about 2 minutes, came back on w/a mighty surge that "fried" several outlets (but no electronics/appliances)...restrung power cords, extension cords and surge protectors...back online; tv running...two hours later, cable (tv and internet access) went down (on laptop w/air card now)...then, land lines went dead...
BUT...we still have heat, lights, DVD player, laptop-with-aircard...and a 4-night (not as good as 5 nights but a whole lot better than no nights!) trip to Disney...
Oh me oh my. Yes, indeed, this storm was the "Snowpocalypse!"

Guess it makes sense that NY is the number 1 state having the most DVC members. Looking at the pictures "Annie" has posted is like looking out our front door for 4-5 months of the year.Hope everyone is able to get through this safely. :thumbsup2

Our flight for tomorrow just got canceled...getting ready to call MS to cancel the whole trip (we can't get out before Tues, when another storm is due to hit DC--this time w/6 inches or so, also enough to close things down)...
I did call MS this morning, simply to report what the Contemporary had done for us last night...they returned my Sunday night points (in holding)...now the points for the whole trip will be in holding, but fortunately for me, my use year is Feb, so I have til 1/31 to use them...

I am in a similar points situation as I booked some nights for my daughter's best friend and her two sisters. They are supposed to fly out of BWI tomorrow morning. The flight has NOT been cancelled yet. I am seriously doubting that they will get out. It's only a three night trip, so the points are no big deal - just feel bad for the girls as they've been without power since Friday evening until just an hour ago (Ann Arundel area) and now their trip is shaky. Maybe they'll get lucky and lift off on schedule and also beat Tuesday's storm. They are flying Airtran.

YAY! They plowed our street today! So we finished digging out the driveway apron and we're good to go now. I became worried about our magonolia tree with the weight of the snow (it's young - only about 5 yrs) so I finally trudged thru to it with a broom. :rotfl: I thought I was stuck for a few minutes 'cuz at one point I went in up to my waist! I had to use the broom to pull myself back up. Anyway, I was too late - we had 2 "major" branches break off on one side, one above the other. So now it is lopsided and "naked" as it has a huge gap.

Our kids have had 5 snow days this past week. Everytime we get a big storm like this, all I can think is, man I should have hauled them down to Orlando. DH never gets off from work for weather, so he couldn't come. The one time I took our older dd to Orlando solo, I spent the week turning around, to point something out to dh (who was stuck at home). I think it's a sign he's meant to come with us.
We still have not ventured into the outside world yet....but I now get another snow day!! Yea! Our work is closed tomorrow, and that's a good thing since all commuter rail service is also cancelled from here to Union Station. So another day of rest.

Awww, I'm sorry to hear everyone had a rough time of it. We got nailed with just under 3 feet of snow (in western Howard Co, MD) but we went into the weekend with a plan.
Extra grocery shopping to get enough supplies for a week (including superbowl)
Fill up the water jugs in case power cuts out (we're on well water)
Stock up on the flashlights and batteries
Get the gas fireplace burning
Have a mixture of books, movies, etc. to entertain
And make sure we're on the list to have the driveway shoveled out when the storm finishes. (Costs a small fortune but having a guy with a front loader and a couple teenage boys to dig out the car are sooo worth it.)
We spent the blizzard watching local news, enjoying old BritComs, flipping on the outside Christmas lights (they're winter lights now) and checking in on family, friends and neighbors by whatever was handy (e-mail, skype, phone, text message).
As a rule we don't plan any trips January-March. It's too cold where we want to go (even Disney) and it's much better to hibernate at home.
We got some fabulous photos of the neighborhood. All that white stuff may have been a pain to clear but boy is it beautiful.

Enjoying the winter train garden the morning after the snowfall. It's like we are in a winter village ourselves. Check out the snow clinging to the windowsills and trees that look lined with buffalo snow.

Hello, from snowy Occoquan, VA! I'm up on a hill which is usually pretty treacherous and have not ventured down it yet. The Federal Government is closed today(Monday) and they are calling for possibly 10 more inches from the storm that's coming tomorrow(Tuesday) afternoon into Wed. morning. Gaaah!
All I can say is....."UNCLE!" :worship:

Update on my own post:
My girls got to the airport and their flight left BWI this morning - one of very few! They will land in Orlando in less then 10 minutes! Yay Airtran!!! BWI only had one runway open since yesterday evening.
Now - hopefully they won't have a problem returning Thursday night........................
And for those on waitlists and booking last minute - we were able to get them this Savannah View at Jambo House in AKL about 3 weeks ago.

We leave on March 6th and I worry that snow will delay or prevent our departure. I don't usually plan a trip until at least late March, but this year my niece is coming with us and this week is her spring break week.
I'm in Central NJ and we had about 8 inches this weekend. Doesn't sound like much compared to those in the DC area, but when it was falling, it was like a blizzard -- very windy -- and there was no traveling to be done. All I kept thinking was that if it was 4 weeks later, our flight would have been cancelled.
Now, I hear the next storm coming on Tuesday night/Wednesday is going to be much bigger, with higher accumulations. Ugh! Snow - go away!

We are leaving March 10th our of AC and we are in South Jersey where we got much more then 8in. Heck my kids have no school again tomorrow because they have no power yet down where they go. UGHHH I can not wait for winter to be over. We have our fingers and toes crossed that this all ends before we leave. I will walk if I have to LOL

Anyone in MD remember the City commercials after the 95-96 blizzards? They aired around April after several killer storms had pummeled us over the winter. It starred all the snow removal and emergency crews wheeling out their plows, stripped down to shorts & t-shirts and dancing to Heat Wave. It was hilarious.
I'm dubbing the next storm the "Knock Out Punch".

Everybody ready for ROUND # 2 ?? We lost power for only about 7 hours over the weekend in that storm but fear it will happen again in today's with these winds. This dig out will be tough with the drifting. I'm sore just thinking about it!! I feel like we're being buried alive in snow!! :sad2: I am SOOO ready for our trip at the end of March! This is our first ever spring break trip to Disney and after THIS WINTER it will be so deserved and wonderful to be somewhere green and warm!!
Wondering if the OP ever made it home ... if so "welcome home" but bet they are ready to go back!
Checking in from the Eastern Panhandle of WV and with almost another 12 inches of new snow on top of the 30+ inches still on the ground (and our deck) it is getting depressing. The wind gust woke me up at 6:30AM when I thought our roof was going. So glad they closed the Government again for the 3rd day, but I would've burned a day either way.
We have a snow drift against our French doors and can no longer open them without the snow falling into the house and that is new (wasn't there last night).
Our next trip is 3 weeks from this Saturday and I can't wait! a week at the BCV is just the medicine I need to help me recover!
They closed the schools here in Jefferson County for the remainder of the week. I think I'm done too. I've not left the house since Friday (2/5)
OP -- hope you are safely home! (misery loves company)

The OP is at her home in Maryland...just wishing she were in a DVC Villa right now, as we ALL ARE.
I live 15 min. from the OP. We got 34 inches of snow over the weekend and early this morning they changed today's "Winter Storm Warning" to a "Blizzard Warning" :cold: Oh to be at BCV right now. :faint:

Annie, we escaped the last storm without losing power. Hope we can do the same this time, but it's been flickering. Washington is not supposed to get this much snow!
The snow is coming down furiously right now. Work has been closed all week, a missed opportunity for a Disney vacation!!

WOW I have not been on in a while....this thread is still going strong. Well here we are again..............another major storm. So far we have gotten about 12 inches and the blizzard like conditions are NOT good. Just hoping NOT to lose power. We ended up getting 32 inches of snow in Severn last weekend. I can't believe how much snow we have gotten since Dec. JUST CRAZINESS. Our kids are off from school all week this week. Last week they had a two hour delay on Monday a snow day on Wed. and a 2 hour early dismissal on Friday. WHEN WILL IT END???!!! DISNEY TAKE ME AWAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

I finally ventured out yesterday before the snow started. I had cabin fever so bad. I went to the grocery store and I have to say....the roads were still NOT great. As we speak...my dh is going out to help a lady (single mother) that lives two door downs get her car unstuck. She is a nurse and probably has to go in to work. I have a feeling this is not going to work. It is bad out there.

DMKEDM - I am sorry for your trip being cancelled. Hope your next trip works out better!
Hey we had a frontend loader in our neighborhood for over 12 hours yesterday (two different drivers). I guess the county sent it. Of course it took until Tuesday for them to do anything. We had a plow come through a few times over the weekend but we were buried in snow in our neighborhood. It was bad. However it looked so good last night before the snow got heavy. Now we are back to square one.

Welcome to the club. UGH I heard that Baltimore and DE beat their snowiest season ever records earlier today....now we are way way over that old record. It has really come down since that record was broken. Our kids are also off on Monday. Hey have you watched the news....there might be another storm Monday. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh Yes I wish we had all known this was going to happen....then we could all be enjoying much warmer weather at a DVC resort. I would not even care which one either. DVC take me awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

Stay safe and warm everyone and hoping everyone's power stays on!! Ours still is, but too many communities near us have it off.

My kids have not been back to school yet, its been called off for tomorrow already, and they are scheduled for a 4 day weekend so they are not home until tuesday. If it snows again I can not even imagine when they will go back. 27 days until DH and I go to WDW and its not going to get here soon enough.

I was lamenting not loading everyone in the car last Friday and heading south. Worst yet is we have a beach house the 12-19th of June and I know school is going to extend into that week now.
There have been quite a few structural collapses in our county including most of one firehouse.

I saw that about the firehouse. :sad1: I was thinking that I was happy I didn't book HHI for June. I wanted that week right after school got out but I waited too late to call and only 2 or 3 days were available so I went with mid July. I hear that we will probably get some days waived though so....fingers are crossed that the state superintendent will waive days so you can still make your trip.
