Hi everyone,
Just booked our first ever cruise
Anyone else sailing on the 19th of May?
I'm looking forward to researching and planning this as I have a lot to learn and I am hoping you guys can help me out :worship:

I hope to be cruising this same weekend, my 2nd cruise ever (both with Disney). I cruised on the Wonder in late Nov. 2009 and am planning on cruising this weekend in May 2011 in celebration of my graduating from the College of Education at University of Central Florida. The Dream will be a total different ship from the Wonder but I'm sure it'll be just as grand if not more.

I'm excited. Congrats on booking your first cruise with DCL!

Hello there :goodvibes

What a great way to celebrate your graduation :thumbsup2

I'm on deck 10 and my ticker seems to be stuck

Everything I have read about the Dream sounds amazing but as it is my first time on a cruise I have nothing to compare it to

Did you have a great time on the Wonder? Did you do the same itinerary?

My first (and only Disney Cruise) was on the Wonder Nov 2009. I had a very good time, even though I felt like I was constantly on the go and the 3 days went by sooo fast. I do not know what the Dream will offer, however considering that both the Wonder and Magic have the same cast away party and Pirates in the Caribbean party (from my understanding) The Dream should have the same parties, which are a lot of fun! You do NOT want to miss them. I'm sure the shows will be different, but I'm sure they'll still be amazing as on the Wonder. Animator's Pallet is the same on the Dream as on the Wonder, but I think they have changed it up a bit as far as decor goes. The other 2 restaurants (Enchanted Garden and Royal Palace) I cannot wait to eat in!!! And again, to sit on Castaway Cay - amazing!!! I won't want to leave.

You will have a blast!!! :thumbsup2 :woohoo:

I have the first seating for dinner (5:45). What time do you have?

Adding this cruise to the 4-night May 15th making this my 1st Back to Back cruise. Traveling with my DD(6) and my mom (70+) and celebrating my 40th while DH stays home with my other 3 kids... so it's an "all girl" trip!
Will only be doing FE once so will wait and decide which one to do at a later date.

Hello there. Wow back to back cruises that sounds really exciting :yay:
I am travelling with my DH and we are both first timers. It will be our 5th trip to Disney though
I don't really understand what the deal is with FE. Do you just leave people little gifts :confused3

Hi all! I think we may be joining you. Not booked yet, but submitted the quote request to DU so should be booking soon.

My mom wanted to try cruising with us but wanted a casino so we decided we could do the 3 day and go to Atlantis in the Bahamas for her. DH and I have done the 3-day twice and while we aren't super thrilled with the itinerary and length, we definitely want to see the new ship! And any cruise is a good cruise :)

We are doing our first long (7 night) cruise in a couple weeks (not on Disney) so it will be fun to see what that will feel like!

Fish Extenders are a lot of fun. When I went on my first cruise my friend and I participated in fish extenders with 3 other cabins. Someone had created a post for our cruise asking who wanted to participate, and only 4 cabins participated, which was fine and almost more than enough as it can get expensive.

You can find instructions on how to make a fish extender (see pics below of what ours looked like) and then we bought all sorts of stuff to give to the other cabins: a dry erase board w/ Mickey/Minnie on it, prepackaged candy, stickers, Disney pens, we made magnets w/ Disney characters. We got all sorts of stuff and gave all sorts of stuff.

Then via the post about who wanted to participate, we shared our cabin numbers w/ each other and walked all over the ship giving our fish extender gifts.

Also we decorated our doors w/ homemade magnets. Since we were cruising in celebration of our 30th birthdays we decorated our door to reflect that. Everyone who walked past our door loved it!

See photos!

Me with the fish extender - the green sections were the pockets that you can stick stuff in.

Nassau was ok. It was my first time being there, so I was excited about going. However my friend and I only hit up the Straw Market. I got some goodies for my family back home. It's exciting to see that you can get a Coach bag (whether real or fake) for really cheap, but make sure you really check it out before you buy it. After I got mine home, I realized that one side of the strap is about ready to fall off, as the sewing of the leather was falling apart. I think my Coach bag is a fake anyway, so that's probably why. It's so worn out that I'm afraid to wear it (as it's a cross body bag) in fear that the strap will break on me. So I wasted $$ there. But I got some nice goodies for the family that say Nassau on them. Seeing the water is amazing! And just seeing the buildings on the way to and from the Market are cute to see. I did not venture out of the port area. Like I could see the ship at all times. I think I was back on the ship by noon time. I spent just a few hours at the Market, got some pics outside the "famous" Senor Frogs, got a few pics of me in Nassau and that was it.

When I go again next year, w/ my parents, I have no desire to venture further out to be honest with you. We will hit up the Market, as my parents have never been (they've never been out of the country before!) and then back on the ship. When/if I go again after this next time, the day in Nassau I will probably just stay on the ship and do what the ship has to offer (as that is what you're really paying for).

So with the 4 day and the 3 day back to back you will be doing a 7 day cruise. Did you have to book 2 separate cruises or can you book one and extend? (not sure how that works) Also do you get the same stateroom? And when you 4 day ends, do you get to stay on the ship or do you have to get off and check in again and then get back on?

May I ask how much this cost you for both cruises back to back? That sounds like something I may want to look into for in the (far) future.

We are thinking of probably not doing any as 3 days isn't long

TifffanyD
05-23-2010, 06:15 AM
Nope we haven't done any excursions on Disney on either of the 3 days. I think we are just going to go it alone to Atlantis. We did this the first time and took a water taxi over there and back. Next time we MAY take the water taxi there but we will definitely be taking a regular taxi back. We had to wait FOREVER for enough people to fill the boat to go back - like an hour seriously!

I also would like to go to Ardastra Gardens but not sure we will have time for both

I really can't take all of the credit. My friend (who went on the cruise with me) wanted to participate in the fish extenders stuff, so I just agreed. She found most of the magnets and made the fish extender. It took her hours to do so. *lol* And she bought all the stuff to do the fish extender gift exchange. But the little Mickey Heads are from Lowe's. We took all the color sample's from Disney's collection and then just cut them out, put a magnet on the back and put them on the door. The rest we found on the Disboards site and printed them out and laminated them, put a magnet on the back and put them on the door (that's what I did mostly w/ this project, help laminate them and printed some out).

But it was a lot of fun! :thumbsup2

A quick question to all you previous cruisers

Is it worth trying to get into Palo?

I'm thinking that it probably isn't for a first timer who is only on a 3 day as I would really like to try all three of the restaurants on the rotation

What do you think?

Hello all! I will be joining you on this cruise as well. It will be myself and my son who will be 4 at that time. My husband will be staying home with my 1 year old. We are also booked for the August 12th Dream sailing as well. This will be our first ever cruise and first ever Disney experience. Unless I decide to take a spring break cruise lol. I booked an inside stateroom for this cruise and a verandah on the one in August. I was going to splurge on a verandah for this cruise but since I am trying to book one for spring break I need to save a little money

Is it worth trying to get into Palo?
Linda :)

I would skip it on your first cruise. All of the main dining rooms are very nice, and it would be worth it to see each once. We've been on 2 3-night cruises w/ DCL so far, and we went to Palo on the 1st night of our 2nd cruise. It was very nice, but the other 3 restaurants are great as well, so you might as well see all of them your first time around and save Palo for a future cruise. That's just my opinion, though :)

You'll probably be visiting the future bookings desk by the end of your 2nd night. We booked our "2nd" cruise on our first, and that's the one in my signature for 10/30...we also went on a DCL sailing this past November for what ended up being our 2nd sailing with DCL putting the 10/30 at #3 (#4 if you count non-DCL curises...just went on a Carnival cruise in June for DW's B-day).

Just booked this after realizing that Pirates 4 should be released during this sailing. HOW AWESOME IS THAT??? :)

I too have switched my dates to this cruise just for the release of Pirates 4. My daughter just loooovvvveeeesss those movies, so I played switcharoo with the dates a little. I just hope we do get to go. I just wonder if they will make a big ta do about it.

Hello everyone! I've been lurking around on this thread for a few days now while we had rooms on hold. Tonight we paid the deposit so I have allowed myself to post.

This will be our third Disney cruise. We did a 3 day on the Wonder in the summer of 2008 and we did the first 5 day cruise on the Magic in Sept 2009. It was supposed to be a double dip at CC right before the Magic went into dry dock but hurricane Hannah had other plans for that double dip. We missed a day at CC but learned that our whole family can deal with ROUGH seas without getting sick!

Someone mentioned booking this for the Pirates movie premier. I don't remember which one but one of our cruises was during the premier for the second pirates movie. Each stateroom got special "premEAR" buttons and I think a poster. I really can't remember because we have a friend who is a huge Pirates fan and we gave our goodies to him. The movie was shown out by the pool (maybe at midnight?) because I remember my husband said it was cool to lounge in the deck chair while he watched it.

This is our first time without a varandah. This time we booked 2 standard inside rooms (adjoining). We have 2 girls ages 16 and 14 and having their "own" room and bathroom outweighs the varandah in my opinion! Hopefully I won't miss it too much.

I look forward to getting to meet you all. Is everyone planning on doing the fish extenders? By my count it looks like we have 10 groups. On the Sept 2009 cruise we had over 100 cabins participate in our FE exchange! Ten sounds like a nice reasonable number.

I'd be willing to keep track of names/cabin numbers of those who want to participate (unless someone else has already started doing it)

Cathy

Hi :wave2:

We've only done it on one cruise (the one with over 100 cabins on the meet thread). With the size of the group, most people did one small gift per stateroom. Nobody had assigned days or anything, it was just dozens and dozens of random gifts appearing throughout the entire cruise. It took hours for us to deliver ours-glad it was just a one time thing!

It was really fun! My husband thought I was nuts getting things ready but don't you know, he was always the one checking the FE....he was like a kid. He just asked the other day if we're going to to the "pocket thing" on the Dream.

DD13 found something on line that showed what an inside cabin looked like. Yikes! It looks really tiny. Hopefully we didn't make a mistake.

Well I'm in :goodvibes
Sounds like great fun

I too have switched my dates to this cruise just for the release of Pirates 4. My daughter just loooovvvveeeesss those movies, so I played switcharoo with the dates a little. I just hope we do get to go. I just wonder if they will make a big ta do about it.

We were onboard for one of the Pirates PreMeers and it was wonderful. They even had the movie in the Walt Disney Theatre.

What is everyone doing to get ready for this cruise, other then playing the "waiting game"?

I have been working on my FE's, but it is kinda hard when I don't have numbers!!!

I have also been working on a ton of magnets for our door.

I haven't told my kids yet, TRYING to wait for Christmas but it is SOOOOO hard!!!

I can't wait until all of the info comes back from the Dreams Maiden Voyage!!

Hi,

There was a list that was current as of 9/21/10. It is post #72 at the bottom of page 5. I'm surprised that you didn't see it or that someone else on the board didn't point you in the direction of it.

Feel free to use that list and make any updates that have been posted after 9/21.

Hi! My name is Lori and I've been lurking for a while and thought I would say hello! :yay:

I just put the 1st payment on our 5/19 Dream Cruise! This is our first cruise, ever, so I can't wait to soak up all the DIS knowledge out there!

I have been reading on the FE's and I would love to do one! We are staying on the 6th Deck. I don't know what number...will Disney tell me? There was a place to pick, but I couldn't decide, so I didn't pick one. Is that bad?

So the crew is myself, DH, and DS, who will be turning 8 on the 20th! This is a top secret birthday surprise, so DH and I have developed lots of code words, such as, "That Swimmy Fish Thing" for Dolphin Swims. Obviously we aren't very good at this, as this is our first secret anything. But we have lots of time to perfect our code, right? I'm glad to see you all, and can't wait for the post-planning, real fun to begin! :cool1:

Hi all
I have been asked to continue with our FE list but as I am unable to edit the one Cathy_s was nice enough to start... we have started a new one above :)
If you are intending to participate in the FE during the cruise, can you please look at the post above and send me any missing info.
Also... we need a cut off date for joining. I am thinking Feb. 19 as that will give everyone a chance to decide if they DO want to participate, and allow anyone waiting to book til after final payment is due. Plus it gives everyone 12 weeks to get sorted too :)
Any objections?
5 months as of tomorrow!!!

Sorry, we aren't going to Atlantis either

I am afraid off that as well. But my kids and sister-in-law are set on going and I do love waterparks as well.

We just booked this cruise, first time for a Disney Cruise! But not the first time cruising (only the 2nd for the kids though). Cat 4 Deck 8 midship. DW, DD12, DD17 and GM. May go to Atlantis for a dolphin encounter, did one in the Keys, it was fun! But it may take a while to firm it up (expensive!).

I know what FE's are (don't have one, not sure if we are going to decorate the door, need to fly in lightly packed due to 5 people), but I don't know what FE gifts are. Anyone?

Looking forward to this cruise! Going to WWoHP beforehand :wizard:

Seeing if we can fit some Pirate gear! pirate:

Fish Extender gifts are gifts you give to other cruisers who are also participating in fish extender an gifts. So a group of people (if they want) will coordinate on this board to exchange gifts. It's fun, but can be expensive if you allow yourself to spend the money. My friend and I participated w/ this on our last cruise. We found a lot of gifts (Disney related too) at Dollar General and Dollar Tree.

Hi again everyone. I just read through the whole thread and took some notes. I have the following information for the fish extenders. Please let me know if I left anyone out or have the wrong information. Obviously as the cruise gets closer those who don't already have room assignments will get them and we can fill in that info.

1. Linda67- Linda, DH deck 10

2. Kelly green eyes 23- Kelly, DM, DF deck 8 main dining Celebrating college graduation

3. Tigger2on-Suzanne, DD6, DM. B2B with May 15th Celebrating Suzanne’s 40th bday

14. Kjackson83- deck 8

15. Suzyqn-Suzy and 3 family members deck 9

16. Suzyqn’s sister- and 3 family members

Wow! This took some time.

I'm not sure yet if I'm participating. I would love to but not sure I can afford to buy for this many people. Maybe it were broken down into groups? So group like 4 cabins into a group and those 4 cabins buy for each other? Just a suggestion. But again I'm not sure I will even be able to participate. But I will be sure to check this board more often now that we are down to 4 months until the cruise and let whoever wants to run this fish exchanger know what I'm planning.

Thanks though! :goodvibes

We had 26 cabins during our last one and the one before was 15.
IMHO 4 cabins is not really worth it... my kids loved the fact that we always the pockets of the FE filled.... my dd and DS in Feb said it was like Xmas again and I didn't have to spend any extra $$$ on treats because they had loads! But I am only keeping track of the list, not in charge per say.
Anyone else have opinions on the FE's...
Also remember I am not sure how accurate the list really is as I have taken it over but 2 or 3 people have informed me that they were not intending to do DE but their names we on the list.
Please everyone ;) can you let me know if you are going to participate in FE and if so your cabin # please! If you wish to also be removed, let me know so I can take you off the list :)

Are you crafty?
There are a lot of inexpensive things you can do.
Bookmarks, Magnets, buttons, ornaments etc...
Some people just make up lil' loot bags for the kids with pencils, balloons, stickers, sweets.
Think about and let me know...
Plus no one has had a chance yet to chime in their opinion yet. That was just mine ;)
BTW... the one you saw was the old list. New list is on Post #108
I think we have 12 right now for FE and cut off is end of Feb. for joining.

Not long now

I think that participating in an FE exchange sounds like lots of fun so we will certainly join in.

Obviously it's totally up to each individual to decide if they would like to join in and as far as I can see the latest list is the one in post 108 (thanks Tigger2On :thumbsup2)

Thanks Kelly on the FE gifts info. We will not be participating, with my older kids the cruise is THE gift :)

Hi Linda, We did the 1st kids cruise to Nova Scotia as a cheaper test (to make sure they didn't get sick or freaked out), it was smooth sailing, so time for Disney! They have been hitting youtube a lot getting ready for WWoHP. The big question is how the crowds will be in the middle of May, time will tell! My DD loves Brits, there are a couple expats in her school she is BFF with.

Bringing our Disney mugs for the drink stations and hopefully can get some root beer there for some ice cream floats! Had to bring the RB in on the last cruise.

Hoping for something special friday night from Disney for POC4!

Cheers! :)

I plan on bringing my own Disney Resort mugs as well, however I was told that they would prefer you use the small paper cups to fill up your mugs. Just an FYI. But where the drink station is at on deck compared to where you might eventually end up sitting, and with carrying plates of food it's a pain to carry these small cups, take 2 sips and they're empty. So yeah I plan on filling up my mug.

Took our mugs In Feb and were told to use the small cups to fill the mugs. You just take the mugs to the station and use the small cup to fill and pour into the resort mugs. They said it was to keep germs down... not sure how germs are passed with mugs but... I can understand that Norwalk flies through cruises like wild fire. so better safe than sorry :)

Yep, that's why I plan on using the paper cups to fill my mugs. Although those mugs don't hold much more than those cups once you add ice to them. Oh well.... It's "free"! Can't complain.

Hi Everybody!

We are going too! This is our very first cruise and I'm nervous because we all get motion sickness---hopefully we aren't crazy to try it. I told my husband that I think the Disney magic :wizard: will protect us. My DD (12) and DS (9) are also coming and we haven't told them yet. I'm trying to plan a day at WWoHP the day we fly in, but I'm worried about the crowds. DD is a huge fan---the last HP book is her very favorite book of all time so I'm hoping I can make it happen. Anyway! Really excited and I hope we all have a wonderful trip!!:goodvibes

May is a good time of year to sail due to calmer waters however, you never know about storms right? That being said, they do have motion sickness stuff available at Health services.

Hello! It is has been awhile since I have been here.

To respond the posts regarding sailing with little ones....

My girls now 3 and 5 have sailed 2x (at ages 18 months & 3 as well as at 2 & 4). My youngest tends to be on the difficult side (on land :) ) and I have to say that she has really done well cruising on DCL. When she was younger we had to remember that the girls still needed their naps. It really stunk - especially on a 3night cruise to waste time in the cabin for 2+ hours every afternoon but it was essential, especially with keeping them up late.

We also had a lot of issues with my youngest not wanting to eat. Since it was only a 3night cruise, I basically let her eat whatever she wanted (within reason). I was going to enjoy myself and not waste my vacation with the food wars. Let's just say she ate a lot of those Big Island Cookies.

Last year she fizzled out quick at Castaway Cay and by the time we ate lunch she had fallen asleep on me. I was fortunate enough to be able to go back and get the last stroller available and let her sleep a while.

I guess my best advice is that you have to remember that you just can't do it all when you have little ones. You have to pick and choose what will work best depending upon their disposition at that moment. I still think it is a great age to go and my youngest has some really sweet memories of our trip last year.

I did some reading about PremEARS and the rule is if the US release date coincides with a cruise, the movie is shown at 12:01am that day. So I would guess DCL should be showing POTC4 at both theaters (they both have 3D, pretty sure) at 12:01am Friday May 20th (really late thursday night). I am guessing both theaters because the midships one holds 499 people , not sure about the forward one.

There will be a LOT of people that will want to go. I am going to check with guest services to see if there is some type of admission plan (wristbands?) or if it will be first in first seated? Since that is the first night at sea, should work out great! We might be a little sluggish getting to breakfast the next day for Nassau :)

We were on the Magic for the PremEAR of the last POTC. It was shown several times throughout the cruise. DH watched it on the big screen out by the pool. I don't recall if it was shown in multiple locations at 12:01 but I do know it was shown out by the pool at 12:01. He said that there were a lot of people there but it wasn't crowded.

Each stateroom got posters and buttons (some other goodies but I don't remember what they were-we gave them to a friend who is a big POTC fan)

Wow, this thread is growing! Sorry I haven't checked in for awhile...

I have a question about the FE exchange. Do we put something in there every day for every person, or could we do one gift for the room?

I can't wait to hear more of POTC4...

We're not doing Atlantis. My parents are paying for DS to do the dolphin swim at Blue Lagoon for his birthday (they did this on a past cruise, and wanted him to get to do it!)

In regards to FE, it is personal choice. Some people do cabin gifts, some make separate gift... something for adults, something for kids. There really are no rules. We handed out 3 days on our 4 night last year but most people do it only once.

My daugther is super excited about POTC 4. She just loves those movies. I hope that they do give some type of extra goody for us being on the ship during the premier. I had us orginally set to sail at the beginning of May, but changed to the 19th just for POTC 4. I could care less about seeing it, but her and her dad will stay up late to watch it.

My dd will be excited that there are more kids her age traveling on the board.
The revised FE list can be found on page 8. let me know if you wish to have your name added. We are all 11 Cabins I believe, though there are still a few who need to confirm if they are participating and what their cabin numbers are, people etc.
The PremEAR of POTC4 should be VERY interesting in terms of where everyone will get to see it , theatres or deck. But all the same, VERY exciting!

Hi all,
I am home sick :sad1: hopefully just a sinus infection, but I have a fever, which means I really can't go to work. (Can't really get around elderly folks when contagious.)

So in my sinus-drug induced stupor, I had an inspiration. I know what I am going to make for the FEs! Yea! Don't worry, it has nothing to do with cough drops, cough syrup or mucus ;)

I am checking up and getting an estimate of how many I'll need to make. Now, the bouncy smilies are making my head hurt...back to bed with me.

Think we decided the end of March to give anyone who might try to snag rooms after the "PIF" date... That way it is 7 weeks til the cruise :)

I think a meet and greet may be fun, but may be hard to find a time that world work for everyone. I must say that I am super depressed about the cruise now. Why you ask? Well we are booked on deck 5 aft. Yep, right above the night club that won't let your sleep unitl say, oh, 2 am!!!! I don't even like to think about it. Don't even know if I should tell my family that is traveling with us. Act dumb, maybe. I don't know. I know they will be raising cain about it and well I probably won't blame them. Well, does anyone else know of others that are blessed to be sailing deck 5 aft?:sad1:

Hay wait, we could have a meet and greet in my cabin around 1 am, I'm sure we will be up.

Ya I think it may be sold out. No joke.

I know that DCL's website has no availability in May, but my Mom and Dad said that there was availability on Vacations to Go (which is like a last minute travel type website.) I bet we see more rooms open up as the cancellation date approaches.

Think we decided the end of March to give anyone who might try to snag rooms after the "PIF" date... That way it is 7 weeks til the cruise :)

That sounds good. That will leave plenty of time to get things ready!

Will we be having a meet and greet on the first day?? If so, where???

I think a meet and greet sounds fun, too! Would it be do-able to do it the first night right after the life-boat drill? Or does that end too close to the first dining assignment time?

:rotfl: Hopefully, the rooms won't be too loud. It sounds like from TRs so far, people around the elevators haven't heard much noise. Maybe the rooms are sound-proofed better? You can hope...or bring lots of ear plugs!

Hope it works out!

We're at home the night before the cruise also. Depending upon our boarding time, we may even have the kids start the day in school and then pull them out before heading to the port. It doesn't count as an absence if they leave early-only if they miss the whole day. School for DD#2 has gotten amazingly strict on missing days. Of course that wasn't the case when we booked the cruise--anyone and everyone was pulling their kids out for vacation but as soon as we planned on missing 2 days everything changed.

:confused3

I was under the impression-maybe I'm wrong-that due to the number of people boarding the Dream we are assigned times to arrive at the port. :confused3

I could swear I read that somewhere but life has been a bit overwhelming for the past few months (lots of health problems in my family) so I really can't trust my memory-it's a lot like Swiss cheese!

I just assumed that once we got the luggage tags etc. we would get a boarding time. A previous poster mentioned getting a boarding time so I just took that to confirm that they really are assigned.

For both the Magic and the Wonder we were given a group number (not sure if that is the exact name) when we checked in at the port and that determined our boarding time. Something makes me think the Dream is different though...

We are staying at the Hyatt Regency MCO. We are not getting in until 11:30pm Orlando time (leaving Wednesday after work) so while a lot of places were cheaper, this just made the most sense for us. Although I did book the room on Last Minute Travel for $130! So we saved a little there...

But after the cruise we will be at WDW at the Beach Club! Woohoo! :yay:

I am so excited, especially after Sunday when, while doing our taxes, we thought we would have to scratch the whole thing! We thought we were going to owe over $9000 this year - totally unplanned and unexpected. But we discovered our accountant was a dimwit (er, that would be me! :rolleyes1 )

So, after we got DH's heart started again ;) we decided we could go to WDW after all!

Sorry, I should not have used the term "Boarding Time." I got my Port Arrival time. Yes, with the larger ship they are trying to schedule people versus having huge crowds at one time. You do not receive a boarding number until you are in line at check in.

Once I filled out all of my online documentation I was then able to select an arrival time. I don't know how strict they will be but ours is 10:30-11:00. Our first year (since reading the DIS boards) we got there at 10:00 and received boarding #2. Last year my husband felt that he needed to water the entire lawn before leaving (while we waited in the car) and we got there later but we were still on board shortly after noon.

Sorry to confuse.

You didn't confuse me!

I'm actually kind of relieved to read that I wasn't imagining things. I thought that I had read something about arrival times at the port but just couldn't completely trust myself. There's only so much that this poor brain can process at one time and that detail only partially "stuck". :upsidedow

Just found this thread that seems to explain the confusion.

Linda, I was able to do this as a Castaway Club member at the 90 day mark. I think for nonmembers it is 75 days. For some reason the on-line check in documents were not visible until later in the day (or atleast not at 12:01 AM when I first looked). I was able to fill them all out and THEN choose my arrival time. (I also thought I read that you had to wait until a few days out but that was not the case.)

Hi! I'll be staying at the Residence Inn near the airport. We too, will be arriving later in the day on Wednesday so it just made sense for us.

However, I'm curious now about the port arrival times. So are you guys saying that once we can check in online(for me it would be 75 days out because this is my first Disney cruise) that I'll choose a time? That's interesting. I'm just planning on taking the first shuttle out of the airport that morning so I guess I'll just have to kind of guess what time I would arrive. I read that they leave around 930 or 10, I think. So I guess I would choose 1030-11?

Just found this thread and love it. We are so excited to be going and our boys are going to be thrilled that POTC4 will be premiering! Too cool! We didn't even know about it when we booked this time. YEAH!

It will be DH (43), me (42), and DS (6 and 11). First time cruisers after first time to Disney and US and Nick Hotel. We will be ready to relax after all the running at the parks. We will be Room #9108 04A. Hope this is a good location, but sure we will not spend much time in there anyway.

Is the FE thing still going on. We don't know much about it, but may be interested in trying it out.

Any tips for first timers would be greatly appreciated!

The FE post is #108, I think. But that just has the cabins participating.

If I think of any good tips, I'll try to share them here, too! I have read that the shoe organizers are not fitting over the doors in the Dream well, so I might modify mine to hang in the closet or try magnets... Or maybe leave it at home...

We are cruising May 19th also. DH, DD4, myself, sister and niece(DN6) :cool1:
We are on Deck 7 with two connecting veranda rooms.

FE sounds like fun but I will watch and learn on this first cruise :-)

We are also staying at the Country Inn the night before and will take cruise shuttle over. I"m hoping for the early shuttle and now with reading about the Port Arrival times I'm not sure. I will hope for the best and show up as early as I can get there.

We are hoping to board early and try to reserve a cabana on Castaway Cay(we are not concierge so must wait til on boat)

We are also staying on this ship in Nassau... Just a big ship with lots to do, so my thoughts.... save the money :goodvibes

Anyone rent the cabanas yet? This arrival time thing has been bothered... :confused3

Hi and Welcome!

I'm worried about arrival times, too! We are leaving from the Hyatt MCO, and a big draw for us was getting to port early, but now, I am reading to get there a little later so you can just walk on. But I bet Disney will have it all figured out by May...plenty of time!

We thought about a cabana also, using money saved from not doing an excursion in Nassau. But May 20th is our son's birthday (he'll be 8) and he has always wanted to swim with dolphins. We'll do that excursion instead. Can you not book the cabanas online or is that just for excursions?

Unfortunately you can only book cabanas early if you are concierage. Others must do it on the boat and I've been reading it isn't a "for sure" thing of who/where to reserve them.

Apparently w/ the Dream they are having you choose an arrival time to the Port. My friend just went on the Wonder (again for like the 3rd or 4th time in the last 3 years) and did not have to choose an arrival time. I'm assuming from this info and from what I've read elsewhere on this board, to accommodate the amount of people this ship can hold, they want to avoid a ton of people arriving at once. The earliest I was able to choose (as of Sunday March 6 in the afternoon) 11:00-11:30. Therefore, w/ living 2-2.5 hours away from the port I'm not going to arrive any earlier than that. Hopefully we'll still be on the ship and to our stateroom after eating lunch by 1:30 and not any later than that.

3 day cruises just aren't long enough especially with a new ship. The AquaDuck I MUST ride!!! *lol*

See you all there.

Shawni

Can you add us for FE?

Just reserved parasailing and snorkeling for Castaway Cay!!!

Can't wait!!! :)

Thank you! So we're basically able to choose a time slot that they have open to arrive.

I selected a port arrival time of 10-10:30 but we will be getting there around 9. I guess that will be early.

Yeah I'm getting there earlier than my 11 check in time. My mom can't walk fast nor can she stand long, so we want to get there early so we can take a few extra minutes to walk in, find a place to sit. I plan on checking in at the desk before my terminal check-in time. I hope that's not a problem.

It might be a zoo then trying to get the car parked as people will start coming off the boat by then. Depending on how quickly they disemabrk everyone also depends on how early they allow people in the terminal. So you maybe lining up twice for twice as long outside and then again inside. Just something to think about.
:)
We will be on the back to back as I am hearing that those people are actually waiting LONGER to get back on the Dream too now. Used to be you got off and had about a 1/2 hour in the terminal before you went back on the boat... now I have heard you don't get back on the boat for at least 1+ hours.
This inaugarel year is a REAL learning curve for Disney. Hope they have it all figured out before the launch the Fantasy!

I'm looking at the menus for the 3 restaurants. I'm not too pleased with them. Good thing Cabanas is opened all day long. I'll eat my soup and maybe a salad and that's about it. Do some chit chatting and then head up to Cabanas to get some food I know I like.

I'm kinda sad about this that I won't be enjoying the restaurants like I had hoped. But I'm just not into seafood, wasabi and bok choy or whatever it is, escargo, etc. :(

Are you going to be trying Paolo?
We decided not to as it's only a three night cruise and we really wanted to try the other restaurants
I actually really like the look of the menus at the three restaurants on the rotation but I love seafood.
I keep looking at my ticker willing it to count down quicker

We have the same arrival time as well!!!!! The port opens at 10:30 so I was going to try and get there around that time even though my "window" is at 11. Also traveling with 2 kids(4 & 6) I will plan (and practice) on being very flexible and patient! :rotfl:

I'm hoping to be in an early boarding group also. Fingers crossed

I've started my packing list... I still haven't told my DD4 so I will inform her and then start packing :cool1:

We are not doing any excursions in Nassau. We are staying on the boat and from the reviews a lot of people do this so will see how it goes.

I am not eating at Palo, nor Remy. And probably will never. That's not really my style. I'm a jeans, laid back type of girl. *lol* Plus, I paid enough for the cruise, let alone pay extra for dinner.

I looked at the menus further and will figure a way to change up the order if possible. Ask for chicken instead of shrimp or just stick to the NY Strip. ha!

Just so you know, the port actually opens at 10am. Not 10:30. That 30 minutes might make a difference.

Would anyone be interested in "joining" reservations together so we will be seated together? Just curious. I saw this on another thread about pairing up with some of your fellow cruisers from your cruise meet threads and thought that might be fun to do.

:)

Let me know.

We already have 7 in our party, so we can't be joining anyone else for dinner.
We have first seating, 9 pm show though. I may change that to the late seating, not sure just yet. So, just how many of you are going to be staying at a WDW resort before the cruise. We are, CBR.

We are so excited for this cruise! However, I feel so unprepared. Where is the best place (besides the disboards) to find great information? I'm more of a book type.
