Do you feel like you MUST go to the beach to have summer? DS10 does not enjoy the beach, likes pools better. I can take it or leave it.
A few people I have spoken with have said that when they think summer they think beach.

We're big beach people in my family. Have to go at least one week every summer. :)

We are too far away from a decent beach for me to even think about going to one on a semi-regular basis even. So while I do envy all you who can go to one, it definitely is not something that would associate with summer. Actually I think Fl when I think beaches more than anything else since that is where I go to a beach most often.

Yes! And Im very aggravated that I havent been able to get to one yet! Well, DH & I were at Castaway Cay, but I have been talking to the kids about going to the beach since like May, and we havent gotten there yet. This has been an absolutely crazy summer, with 2 trips planned, FIL(and MIL) getting sick, getting the yard ready for the pool, and the pool up, etc... Unfotunatley we dont have many more chances to go, but Im definitely going to try.

Definately!
Like I stated in my previous post, Summer=Vacation and beach
I can't really have summer if I don't make it to the beach.
I would feel like I missed something.
It would be like having Winter with no snow!!:)

Ahhh there's nothing like lying on the beach at Lake Erie on a hot day!;) EXCEPT lying on the beach at the Gulf of Mexico! LOL;)

I definitely have to go to the beach during the summer. I take day/weekend trips with my friends sometimes in the summer to Seaside since it's only a little over an hour away. I also go for 2 weeks with my family down farther near Wildwood, which is almost 3 hours. I just love the ocean, sitting on the beach, miniature golf, the boardwalk, and just everything about being down the shore.

I hate the beach. I hate the sand. I hate the crowds. I hate the ocean. I even hated Castaway Cay. :(
I'm a swimming pool kind of girl. :teeth:

My opinions are the same as *********** except I don't even do the swimming pools. Besides the beaches here are nasty compared to other states.
One thing that is a must: when we drive to disney, I have to stay at a hotel on the beach, ocean view, anywhere in florida.
I could sit on the balcony for hrs watching the dolphins, seagulls, and the sunrise.

Since I live on Old Cape Cod summer is definitely the beach but so is winter, spring and fall. Funny thing is that even though I live here on the Cape I go to the Maine coast for vacation. I consider Maine to be "the real ocean." I love taking long walks on Old Orchard Beach. Next to WDW it is my favorite place to be  When I graduated from college and was looking for a teaching job I only applied to places on the coast because I knew I wanted to live near the ocean.

YES!! But I am a Floridian. It is NOT summer unless we go to the beach, period!;)
But I am also one to like to stay at a resort ON the beach and WITH a pool! We do daytrips to closer beaches, but that is not as enjoyable as our real trips:p .
I guess I am also, "spoiled by beach resorts".

Too far away from the beach, but my family enjoys a pool better...preferably one in Disney! ;)

No, not really. DH and I don't really care for the beach. I prefer pools...nothing creepy swimming around my ankles in a pool! ;)
DH and I like to relax, but the thought of sitting around on a beach...with all that sand!...for a week just doesn't appeal to me.

No, not really. And I live 15 minutes from multiple beaches in Orange County! I haven't been to the beach during the daytime in years. We normally go year-round, probably once every two weeks, to watch the sunset and walk along the shore, but haven't gone and spent a day there in forever.

No, I'm not crazy about the beach at all and I live 2 blocks away from the beach! I'd much prefer a pool.

I love the beach, but I really like the beach towns and the beach vacation "feeling" more than the ocean. We usually spend one morning at the beach when we travel to one, then we shop and walk around town the rest of the time.
We don't like pools at all. Our neighborhood has a pool, and we've lived here 3 years and only been once.

The beach could be a daily event here...we could walk there.
my favorite beach however is the beaches on the southern side of St croix...beautiful!

I think that Kermit summed up my feelings. We used to spend a lot of time on or near the water but the beach was just secondary. The area southeast of Houston is very boat oriented and that is what I became accustomed to. Unfortunately, this is a little difficult in land-locked Dallas where all of the lakes tend to be gated. :(

I am a beach person! I love it! We go about tw0 or three times a year. My dad and stepmother live 10 miles from Gulf Shores so we go to see them. Then we go to Panama City Beach in the spring and Myrtle Beach in the fall. It takes us around 8 hours to get to any of these. When we go to WDW one of my beach trips gets cancelled. My children are grown so by going off season we can get the same room my DD gets in the summer but pays 3x's the amount we do. Of course when we go to Gulf Shores with stay with my dad. Sometimes there are advantages to not having to plan around a school schedule. Anyway when I go to the beach I truly do relax!:)
dd's love the beach, but I think they'll sacrifice going to the beach to go to Disney World..:smooth:

Yes, I love the beach. Nothing can keep me out of the water! Someday I want to own my own large, beach house in some exotic locale!:D

I have to go-no two ways about it. I usually make it twice, but this year, only once due to Disney trip. I love the beach, I am always in a calm, relaxed state, and love every moment. If we stay here, I am looking to buy a condo "down the shore", but if we move, it has to have close proximity to the beach-somewhere in FL, perhaps?
I think it stems from the 3 years we spent living in Bay Head, NJ when we were children. :D

Summer to me = off work till September!:D I do "go down the shore" frequently...having parents who own a home down there really helps!;) I go down a few times over the summer (been down there twice since June...and might go back down this Tuesday). Since it's just me (kiddies are older and don't want to go there with "Mom", besides they have jobs! haha) I do what I want. My mom and I go to the beach (Wildwood Crest...I love sitting there people watching, taking a dip to cool off, just relaxing...), we go to Wildwood and do the boardwalk, go shopping, just bum around. It's great! :D
