We would love to see any of the Wishers who drifted away come back.

We tend to be an "older" crowd, although; we have several young people with us. We have fast runners and slow walkers (me!), a cranker and everyone in between. There are those who love to workout and those who WISH they loved to workout. We have veteran racers and Newbees too! We applaud your efforts, cheer your successess, and pat you on the back for giving it a try!

Thank you all for the Happy Birthday wishes! I spent a restful day pretty much alone except for phone calls. The kids and all the grands called. DS came by for a little while.

Jennifer-WTG Chicago is a favorite of many. You will most like see other WISHers there. :goodvibes

Happy Monday Team!

Went spinning Fri. night & the best I did for the rest of the weekend was dog walking. It's a new month, post goofy rest is over & I must get back at it
with yoga tonight.

Margie, Still undecided on races but they won't be very exciting. Probably doing ones I've done before.. Prices go up in the next couple of days. Better get it together.

Connie, Best wishes to you & a Happy (belated) Birthday. Hope you had a great day.

Posting from work so I better get back at it.............Sue

Happy Feburary everyone! It's been very lazy here the last few days. We got snow on Friday. A whole 1/2 inch but it has paralyzed the city of Charlotte. No school for the kids today. My workout buddy's son was going to keep an eye on James today so we could go to the gym but the poor kid woke up sick. So I can't wait until tomorrow when school is back on so I can get out of the house and back to the gym. I thought about going out and running yesterday and today but the sidewalks are a mess. So hopefully my fitness plan will be back on track tomorrow.

Morning team! Looks like quite a few of the groundhogs saw their shadows this morning ... ugh! Let's hope they're wrong! :) Got out for my run this morning. It was chilly and I wish I had worn an extra pair of shorts over my tights. I also worked out at the gym last night and managed to do a deadlift of 135 lbs! That's my heaviest so far so that was really exciting!!

Connie - Watching a movie or staying home is better than fighting the crowds and spending lots of money to go out on Valentines. DF and I don't have plans but it is our anniversary so we'll see. I did ask him to make macadamia nut pancakes like the ones you can get at Kona Cafe! Yum :)

Shannon - It doesn't take much more snow here for everything to slow down as well. No snow days or days off though :(

Margie - How are you doing today? Yup definitely keeping warm! Wishing spring-like weather will arrive soon. Want to come up and do a race in Toronto? Kim and I might be registering for a half at the end of September.

Lynn - How's working going? It must be keeping you busy. Hope your knee is okay.

Looking forward to the premiere of Lost tonight! Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi guys.

I think the ground hog should be replaced by an animal that doesn't hybernate. See the ground hog wants to go back to sleep so it wants winter to drag on. Really! Now the sweet little pandas do not hybernate so ummmm well....

Hey Guys!!

I have been working on the bills, or as I like to think of it...helping the postmaster keep her job! :rotfl: I ran out of checks and just now got the new ones, so I was way, way behind!

Dave - I don't know about that changing Puxatawney Phil to the Powerful Panda, PETA want to make him a robot! You wouldn't look good as a robot!!! Six more weeks of winter... -- When you do the Derby, I hope you don't have to dress like a horse! I mean really...a panda dressed like a horse....:rolleyes1

Kristie - Thanks for sharing the info about your chair or as I have come to think of it..a rocket on wheels! I had no idea that you could fly!!! You are probably all done with your race by the time I cross the start!!! :thumbsup2

Margie and Vicky - Watching a movie?? :lmao: I will probably be watching the Food Network! If you can't eat it, might as well watch it!

Shannon - Is James feeling better? How old is he?? You sound like you are already on the "Just do It" category with training. That's wonderful! What's your first race??

Kim? Are you still out there? Are you still with us???

Jack - What's up?

Jennifer - Did all the monitoring lead to good things? How's the team coming along???

Sue- Got your races picked?? I am still looking for a fall one. I am limited by the number of races available in my area. You would think living in Texas I could find plenty...and I can, but TEXAS is BIG. It's closer to go to Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, and Colorado than it is to go to nice warm places in Texas. Heck, it's only an 9 hour drive to San Antonio!

Hope - How's the recovery and the quilting?? Can't wait to see the newest project!

Denise - Are you planning any races or just kind of taking a year off?

Robert - How's it going?

Lynn and Scott - We know you guys are busy? Cause we been missing you!

Mary? How are you doing?

It looks like the Be Kind to the Smelly Virtual Race has won the poll. Thanks for voting. If we don't get beat out by somebody else, we will have our race the weekend of May 2nd and 3rd.

It keeps snowing or icing and now...RAIN. We still have snow on the ground and some people are still out of electricity. But I have my training plan laid out for the OKC Memorial Marathon and I have even lost 9 pounds!!!!!

See ya! Hakuna Matata! Connie

Just a drive by to say Happy Feb ! We need to replace that gopher who likes all this winter weather!

Connie: Hi! Been busy weekend working on a race. Dr appointment yesterday and Spanish Board of Inquisition of 9 people grilling me at Special Events Board Meeting for new race I am creating. All worked out :)

I made it to gym today for 2 hrs: 1 hr bike(20.5 miles), leg wts exercises, and 30 min arm bike(5.5 miles).

I will try to keep up more!

Connie, Apparently you were right, all the monitoring was good. I impressed them so much I've been nominated for Elementary School teacher of the month. Quite a coup for a first year, alternate route teacher.

Track is coming. First full practice today. I have girls in the one and two mile, who I'm training up to the 5k. They can now all run a mile without stopping. It's "slow" (about 10 minutes) but it's an improvement.

I'm getting my speed back. 6.25 miles in 50 minutes on the treadmill. First post-Disney race is on Saturday.

Best,
Jennifer

Connie, the Derby race is on Apr 24th. I will be doing the half but not as a horse's rear.

Tomorrow will be a good workout but hard, a strong 8 to 10 miles on a hilly course.

Have a restful evening y'all.

My recovery is going well. I go back to work on Friday. Boo! Now that I'm feeling good and getting stuff done, I don't want to go back to work. But I need to earn more money. My first couple days will be short and easy. No ice throwing. Should be easy on my belly button (most tender part). Then we can work on doing more light activity. Hopefully it'll kick start my appetite into normal range, since it's almost nothing now.

Good morning, HK!

Robert - Inquistition?? :scared1: Who played the role of the Spainish?? This must be a really interesting race! Good job on the gym! Sounds like those knees are happier!

Dave - Good to know about that Derby race! I would be crushed if you did a horse suit! -- Hilly course? That sounds like work!

Jennifer - WOW!!! Congratulations!!!! :woohoo: That's awesome! Teacher of the month!!! I guess things were better than you thought! Good job! -- And congrats on that team!! All those girls who want to be like you! You have brought them a long way already!!

Hope - :flower3: It's good to hear you are doing so well, even if that does mean you have to go to work. One good thing about work, it pays!

I am off and running this morning. I have to get groceries BEFORE the next snow storm hits. And it's on its way. Sounds like no big deal getting to the grocery store until I tell you...it's 50 miles away!

Today is technically a rest day for me. But I am thinking...I shouldn't be resting!

:wave2: Vicky, Margie, Kim, Kristie, Scott, Lynn, Denise, Shannon, Jack, Sue and Mary! MAKE a great day, y'all!

Hi everyone! Went to the dentist first thing this morning so I had to skip my run. I probably won't have time tonight so I'm going to do my yoga DVD instead. The hygenist was telling me that my previous dentist hadn't been doing a good job of cleaning under my gums so she spent an hour working on that. She also told me not to use alcohol based mouth washes because it wears away at your gums. Didn't know that...

Connie - The closest grocery is 50 miles! Yikes! I guess you really have to stock up when you go. I didn't end up getting a blood test because I forgot about the fasting part and ended up snacking last night :( Will try again next week.

Jennifer - That's about how fast I run  I guess I'd make the team! When is their first track meet/competition? Can't wait to hear how they did :)

Robert/Dave - Good job on the workouts!

Margie -

Hope - I'm glad to hear your recovery is going well!

Had a really great run last night. One of my favourite times to run. Temp a little below freezing, good tunes on the Ipod & light snow falling. Cold, crisp & clear. It does wonders to clear the mind.

Vicky, The dentist first thing in the morning. :scared:

Beautiful Winter Day with fresh (heavy) snow made shoveling a bit tougher.
Hagen and I went sledding yesterday. Fun-Fun-Fun, but I don’t think I am as ready for bigger hills as Hagen is. A 3-yr old with no Fear!

Connie- CONGRATULATIONS – on the 9# weight loss-WTG that is totally awesome!

Dave- WTG with the workouts! I did a couple of half marathon on serious hills last fall so I know 8 plus miles on hills is a great cardio workout! :goodvibes

Hope- Glad to hear your recovery is going great, but I agree it would be nice to be home for a few days more. ::yes::

Jack- Good Morning :upsidedow

Jennifer- CONGRATULATIONS - Teacher of the Month! :cheer2:

Kim- Hope all is well with your foot?:flower3:
Do you have another race scheduled?

Kristy- Congratulations on your 1st Place Race Win :cheer2: But sorry to hear your new chair will be delayed. :sad1:

Vicky- Doctor & Dentist appointments; is this the time of year you make the rounds? :scared:

Kristy, I like the way you think princess. I'm dumb enough to think I can medal in the National Senior Olympics next year, just have to knock off a trio of current world record holders in my age group. Next year you will hear the panda rowr all the way from Huston, I'm going after it this time. Last time I was 8th and had just trained to get there healthy and place in the top ten.

Margie, I'm doing the half at the Derby and then one here, not sure where I'll race after that. Next year I will probably do the Disney full but not sure yet.

Scott and Lynn, how is the weather there now? I had a day with sun in the 40s and it felt like spring.

Robert and Linda, glad y'alls race directing and timing business is doing good.

Denise, you will have Hope whipped into shape in no time. I hope I can meet you guys for a race sometime.

Hello Everyone!

Not sure about races but will continue to work out to get buff for Cancun in July. Buff may be stretching it but at least the Mexicans won't recoil in horror, that's my goal. :)

I'm leaving for further north in NH. Purity Springs resort for a quilt retreat. I believe there is skiing, tubing and indoor pool and hot tub. I will avail myself of the last 2.

May get out for some walks while there. It 's going to get colder and we will be further into the White Mountains where it snows quite a lot.

Actually it's so cold that the Canadian air is pushing the storms to stay south of us - thank you Vicki!

I'm not sure what I'll have for internet access with my iphone but will post a driveby if I can. Up in gods country their aren't too many cell towers. The 3G network will have to kick in.

Well my sewing is packed, now it's time for my clothes. We tend to dress for comfort so it's not a big deal. 32 ladies sewing for 4 days. Lots of laughs, good times and relaxing.

Take care all, see you Sunday.

denise

P.S. Yes I'm currently working on many quilts and will post pictures when I'm back. Dave, did you get to see Aiden's quilt? Hopefully he's gotten it by now.

Kristie: Congrats on 1st place. Can't wait to see how well you will do in new chair :thumbsup2

Dave: Great job on 8 miler. Senior Olympics will be your showcase :)

Vicky: Thanks for tip! Didn't know that so will have to stop.

Scott: Do you ever sleep :confused3

Margie: Sounds like you are like me about big hills and snow . Been there done that.

Denise: Have fun at your retreat. Can't wait to see your photos!

Kim: You must be at a hockey game and getting ready for the Olympics ;)

Today was another 2 hr workout day. Did 6.5 miles as there was a break between storms and it was sunny. Tomorrow is another 2 hr gym day. That will make 6 hrs in 3 days  I will get back into my old shape after letting life dictate and put me into bad eating habits.

Have a great evening all!!!

Hi Team! :wave2:

A bit chilly at 14°. No new snow this morning. And that is a good thing as my arm muscles are sore from shoveling for 2-plus hours yesterday.

Hagen and I are going sledding/tubing again this afternoon. :cloud9:

Connie- did you get your shopping done before the ice storm arrived?
Let us know what the doctor says today about your foot today! :upsidedow

Hummm…Connie’s question, ‘What Are You Doing to Celebrate Valentine’s Day’- Weekend? Friday–party with my little guys; Saturday -Scrap Booking; Sunday- Church, Virtual 5K, and will look for a sappy movie.

Dave- you will do great in the Senior Olympics! ::yes:: It is nice to have our cheerful Panda back. Know you will enjoy the pool workout today. I think I will do the Martian Half in April, but I have not registered.

Denise- Enjoy…Oh, My Gosh that trip with 32 fellow quilters sounds like so much fun! Eager to see the pictures of your quilts! :goodvibes

Hope- Yup, you got it … building back up after surgery, illness, or injury is always best if we take it slow. :grouphug:

Jack- Where are you! :confused3 You are back to the gym & running a bit … correct? Did you get the budget issues settled? Maybe they are like mine like and the weather, I put myself on a spending Freeze! :cold:

Jennifer- Doctor’s appointment – regular check up or are you having a medical concern? :scratchin

Kim- did we lose you ??? How is your foot? Were you able to get into the doctor after coming home from Marathon Weekend? :confused3

Kristy-Hope you get a snow vacation, but not thinking you will need to come this far north to enjoy the snow these days. :rolleyes1

Lynn- are you enjoying the challenge of your job? How’s the progress with your knees? pixiedust:

MaryJ- Are you in training for an up coming race? :grouphug:

Robert- No doubt :lmao:

Shannan-were you able to make it to the gym? I have a neighbor that gets up way early to go to the gym while her husband is still home. I know how hard it is to work around little ones schedules. I have my little 3-yr Hagen and another little 2-yr during the day. They keep me very busy and hard to get much me time! :upsidedow

Scott- :faint: WTG on getting 8 hours sleep it does do wonders for the mind and the body. I do agree on watching the news.

Sue- WTG 234 miles in December. Do you run after dark? It is beautiful being outside when the snowflakes are drifting lazily about. ::yes::

Vicky- dead lift 135# - are you working on something we should know about – like body builder. :scratchin Did your dentist recommend another mouth rinse?

Hi team! Not much of import to report today - going to the gym after work and then I'm meeting with the nutritionist. If she has anything interesting to say about running and food, I'll be sure to post it tomorrow.

Kirstie - Congrats on your PB at Miami! Do you have a pic of your award? Sorry to hear about all the stuff going on with your chair. Seems like things can get political even outside of an office setting. Did they give you a new delivery date?

Robert - Is that really Dave?

Margie - I only started using Listerine recently and that was because I read somewhere that it was good at killing germs and possibly viruses (it was on a page for H1N1). She suggested I water down the Listerine to use it up and then I think she said any alcohol-free rinse would be good. The deadlifts are just to build muscle and to see how far I can push myself. I never thought about bodybuilding but am not really fond of their physiques.

Sue - I heard that there's a debate at Toronto council about eliminating either the Scotiabank or the Goodlife race since they're only a couple of weeks apart. The 2010 races are still on but I'm not sure who will get the 2011 spot. I've only done Scotiabank so I don't know what the Goodlife course is like.

Jennifer/Denise - I wish I could keep pushing the cold stuff further north! I don't like the snow and cold either :)

That's all for now! Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Gym was packed, so I had to settle for a bike rather than a treadmill. 45 minutes on the bike and then 15 minutes of abs.

Good Morning, Team!

Heat Wave 30° here ... more snow is on the way.

Connie-were you able to brave the weather, roads, and get to the foot doctor yesterday? :flower3:

Dave- Cheerful Panda – lose 20# you are kidding…right! :lmao:

Denise-Hope-Kim-Lynn-MaryJ-Shannan- :grouphug:

Jack- Morning :coffee: I see you are reading the paper again! :upsidedow

Jennifer- hope the doctor can get your medical issues back on track soon – stress is serious stuff! :flower3:

Kristy- Oh My Gosh - Love the cute helmet! I so want to watch you getting your award! I have cable so I need to figure this out...You do mean 2010...correct? This was filmed for TV. It is going to be shown on February 22nd, 2009 at 12:00pm ET, CSS.

Robert- you have a fantastic training schedule! Your dedication and determination is very inspiring! :worship:

Scott- must be realy-really busy :surfweb:

Sue-WTG ::yes:: committed & registered for my spring race…Mississauga Full.

Vicky- :woohoo: if I was lifting that much weight I would bulk up and look absolutely terrible! I try to be careful. I am muscular and build muscle easily. I use much-much less weight and do repetitions to strengthen not build. :rolleyes1

You know do not have a lot of time left to make those plans to Celebrate the Memory Moments with your Someone. so you better be thinking about Connie’s question, ‘What Are You Doing to Celebrate Valentine’s Day’- Weekend?

Good morning Team!

Kristie - LOVE  the helmet. I think the only way to make it better would be if it came in Pink with all the lovely sparkle!!! Good luck with your race. AND a GREAT BIG CONGRATULATIONS on beating that woman!!!! :cloud9: I can help you with that snow vacation!!!

Jennifer - I am sorry you are having trouble. :tinker: Did the doctor have some advice?

Dave - Your photo is lovely! :banana:Remember, men who are 20 lbs overweight are less likely to have heart attacks than men of normal or underweight!! I can't believe you aren't loving the snow!

Robert - I hear your in for a tossing in a fountain?? :rotfl:

Vicky - Hope you learn great things from your nutritionist! Man, you have really been doing the Doctor circuit lately!

Sue - I read about your race registration delimnas. I keep having the same problems, myself. Good luck!

Margie - How was the tubing? Watch out for that speed. You will be needing
Kristie's helmet!

EVERYONE - We have a new member! Nursepammie should be stopping by soon to introduce herself. She has just started the C25K program, so she should have a lot in common with Shannon. It will be nice to have someone from the medical profession on our team. I am just guessing that Pam is a nurse and that her name is Pam.

Nursepammy - Welcome to our team!!! :welcome: We range in age from the twenties to the sixties! We are walkers and runners and drivers! We have some of the brightest minds in the world and lots of caring people. We are spread out all over the country from RI to CA and TX to Cananda!!

AFM - I didn't make it to the doctor yesterday. We got 5 more inches of snow on top of what we already had!! I didn't want to make the drive to the docs. I can drive in the snow, but most Texans can't. I guess they didn't have the benefit of mid winter driving lessons in Colorado!

I spent much of the morning trying to find a room for the OKC Memorial Marathon. I finally found one. I hope it's not a roach motel, because it is off the beaten path. But it has a shuttle, so there won't be hunting parking or walking for 8 blocks to the start and then back to the hotel! Plus, I didn't want to buy the room at rates of $250+, I just wanted to rent the darn thing! I did a 40 min walk yesterda and weight resistance! Yea, me!

Hope, Kim, Kristie, Scott, Lynn, Denise, Shannon, Jack, and Mary! MAKE a great day, y'all!

They might not show us as they didnot have are awards ready!!! They are going to mail them to use. But these things take time, I have still not received my $ from NYC Marathon!!

Connie The helmet does come in pink! I didn't get it as i thought it might clash with the pink on my chair.

Me and Dh spent 3 hours last night punching out small Micheys and castles out of holographic paper. I want to stick them to my new chair........only a few thousand more to go.:lmao:

Connie, spring is coming princess and this weird winter will be just a memory. I'm ready for spring for sure this year. Especially after freezing my buttt at Disney last month.

Wow 5 days and 5 pages, gotta catch up. I missed everyone, but my budget is done with very little cuts.:woohoo: Got everything in my capital I needed. Cuts in other departments but after last years cut to the bare bone they realized only the marrow is left. I've been doing some creative math and making adjustments so, it looks like we passed this round.
Will catch up with everyone this weekend. Hope the snow passes to the ocean, and everyone has a safe weekend.

Happy Friday everyone! I managed to get in a quick 2 miler before my training session yesterday. DF happened to be downtown so he drove me to the gym and since I was 30 minutes early, it worked out perfectly. I've got a 13 miler tomorrow so hopefully that will go well :scared1:

Kirstie - That's a cool helmet! Can't wait to see you and your chair once you've got it customized!

Dave - Great workout! Glad to see Happy Panda is back :)

Connie - Yeah, I like to get all of the doctors and check ups out of the way and I figure if I make them at the beginning of the year I won't forget. The nutritionist liked what I was eating for the most part - she did tell me I needed more protein and asked that I switch from instant oatmeal to minute oats. She also recommended that I start taking flax seed or fish oil so that I could get more Omega-3. Yikes on the $250/night hotel!!

Robert - That is some workout! :thumbsup2

Sue - You've done ATB? Exactly how steep is that hill at 27K (the one with the grim reaper)? I keep reading different opinions - some people say it's not as bad as they had heard and other people say it was really bad.

Margie - I wish we had a "heat wave" here ... I'm definitely looking forward to Spring - longer days, more sunshine :goodvibes For Valentine's Day, DF and I will probably make breakfast at home. Trying to save a little bit of cash so that we can hopefully take a trip in the fall or summer.

Scott - You sure are busy! Makes me feel bad for complaining about my day...

MotoMiker - Hi! WELCOME to WISH!!! The teams are just small groups to help you get accustomed to Wish. It can be big and imposing. The Wish team overall tries to make a Disney Race at some point or another and get together. Some of us who live closer together will meet at local races. I meet people from other teams at some races in Oklahoma! It's great fun to have friends at races when you have to go solo or even have to run solo. -- You can look a here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2357426 For a comprehensive list of people going to different races throughout the year. Then you will know if someone is attending a race that you are. As a team, we haven't met any special place except at Disney's marathon weekend. Travel can be hard since we are spread out from Rhode Island to California and Texas to Canada! You are welcome to join any team and get to know their members. Everyone on Wish is very supportive.

Kristy - Good luck. The new helmet will look wonderful with your new pink chair. You have to post a picture of yourself when you are all cute for a race!!

Vicky - I understand about the doctor thing. I have a friend who does it on her birthday. Seems like a bad way to spend a birthday to me!! :lmao: Everything came out okay, then? If you have a crockpot and like steel cut oats, I have a recipe for you. That way, your breakfast is ready to go as soon as you are ready for it!

Margie - Good morning! Are you tubing today?? I hope you and Hagen had a great time.

Scott and Lynn - You and Lynn are working hard. We miss you!

Dave - Spring is coming?? Are you sure? :confused3 I haven't seen any sign of it. All I see is snow and mud when some of the snow melts!! Are you still planning that race...you know the BIG one??

Robert - Are those big workouts your regular workout or are you doing them for some special race or something. Tell us about the new race, unless it's hush, hush!! Who knows, we may try to suprise you by participating!!

Jack - Hi! I am glad you got that budget worked out. It can be so hard to try and see into the future and stuff. Especially when you don't have a crystal ball like mine! :rotfl:

AFM - I'm sick. I have some kind of throat, sinus thing. Good thing I changed my doctor's appointment. Now, I can see him for two things instead of just one.

Hope, Kim, Denise, Shannon, Sue, Nursepammi, Jennifer and Mary! MAKE a great day, y'all!:grouphug:

Good Morning Team! This is my weekly post - I did not make it to the computer during the week.

Jennifer – Congrats on the Chicago Marathon! Big Congrats for teacher of the month!!

Connie – congrats on the weight loss!!! We have never been 50 miles from a market – but we have been 90 miles (over a mountain pass) from a WalMart and Sam’s Club and a mall!

Virtual race May 2/3 – I will put it on the calendar!

Vicki – sounds like your dentist appt went like my first one here in Cheyenne – I now visit the dentist 4 times a year for cleaning – I guess the plaque really likes my teeth – but I have not had a cavity in the last 3 years! I was also told to switch to the Crest mouth wash because it did not have alcohol.

Kristie – congrats on the Miami race! Nice helmet!

Welcome to nursepammi and Mike!

Connie – I would like to see the crockpot steel cut oats recipe! We do not make them that often because of the long cooking time. And pixiedust:that you will be better soon!

Robert - good to hear that RD is still going on!

Dave - hope your weather improves - great job with the workouts - you are an inspiration to us all!

Jack - glad to hear you got your budget approved!

Hi to everyone else!!

My knee is slightly better - but I don't know if it is because of the new NSAID, the steroid they injected with the Orthovisc last week, or that it is really improving. Had second Orthovisc injection yesterday, so knee was sore last night. I have been getting in my 1.28 mile walk with the dogs each morning (except yesterday when the weather station said it was 3 degrees with the wind chill - so I spent 20 min on bike downstairs instead) and have spend about 30 min on bike almost every night - only one day of weights, need to improve on that!

Scott had to go into work today, so I am on shopping duty on my own (that means I can go places I would not drag Scott to!)

Have a great week all!

I love the texture of steel cut oats. You can make this the night before and breakfast is ready in the morning. I like fruit additions, but my kids do not, so I've listed them as optional. Also, it may sound like a lot of water, but trust me, I've experimented.
by papergoddess
6¼ hours | 5 min prep

SERVES 3 -4

1 cup steel cut oats (DO NOT substitute old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats)
4 1/2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon salt
2-3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup dried fruit (raisins, prunes, apricots, dates) (optional)
Serve with
milk, to taste
sugar, to taste
cinnamon, to taste
maple syrup, to taste
nutmeg, to taste

Place all ingredients in a 2 quart slow cooker. (If you want to make a smaller amount please use a smaller crock pot or crockette. This won't work in a 6 quart cooker).
Cover and cook on LOW 6-8 hours.
It might form a "crust" around the outside. Just scrape it down with a spoon and stir.

Spray your crock pot with nonstick cooking spray for easier cleanup or you can use the crock pot cooking bags. You can change anything you don't like or add anything you do! You can use fresh or frozen fruits too! Put leftovers in the fridge for a quick microwave breakfast during the week!

Connie - I hadn't thought about cooking the steel cut oatmeal overnight. Not sure I have a crockpot but I'll have a look around the house.

Kirstie - Good luck at your race tomorrow! Can't wait to hear all about it :)

Lynn - My teeth are like that too. I think the hygenist said it was because my mouth was less acidic. She said that meant I ended up with more plaque than cavities :) Glad to hear your knee is slowly improving!

Scott - Sorry to hear about the office work today :( Hopefully you won't be in the office too long.

bunnyfoo: I am finding that I need to be able to do a 'preC25k' prep so that I can start it at all. Good for me to know, I really didn't realize that I was this badly out of shape. Maybe the fact that I walk between 5-8 miles on my 3-11 pm shifts misled me to think I can run at all.

Seriously, by the 2nd 30 second run interval I was having chest pain, and couldn't catch my breath.... Funny now, not when it happened. So my goal is go walk 3 miles at a steady pace without getting light headed.

Today I mall walked, as the weather was rediculously cold. There were alot of mallwalkers there today.:dance3:

Quick race report:

Sometimes diminished expectations are a good thing.

I wasn't expecting much from today's 10k, but managed to set a new PR and win my age group. Go figure.

New 10k PR 46:55. I'm officially sub-47. I was on sub 45 pace through the first 5k (so technically I have a new 5k PR too).

With warm up and cool down 8 miles total.

Hi everyone! It's a nice sunny and somewhat "warm" day here :) Got out and got my 13 miler in. It started off pretty good but I think I chose a route with too many hills. I lost a lot of my steam at mile 11 and ended up going pretty slowly even though it was all downhill from there. I finished in about 2:31 and DF took me to brunch afterward. Next week's LR is a 15 miler so that should be interesting. I may just do a flatter 5 mile route 3 times and save the hills for some of the shorter runs.

Margie - pixiedust: for DD! I hope everything goes ok at the ER. The headache was from a lack of sleep :sad2: I was back on my 5-6 hour/night sleep schedule last week and I really suffered for it. Next week I'm going to make sure I'm in bed by 11PM.

Jennifer - Congrats on your 10K time!

Pam - When I first started running, I could barely do 2 minutes of running. I still do run/walk intervals on long runs. Keep up with the program and you'll be running smoothly in no time :)

Dave - Hope you enjoy your walk indoors! Our malls are too busy to walk in on the weekends :(

Connie - Sugar is not my friend. I start eating sweets and I just can't stop :upsidedow I've been pretty good at cutting refined sugar for the past few weeks. Thanks for the tip about cooking them in the oven overnight!

Scott/Lynn - Hope you guys had a great breakfast!

So, It's okay to join you guys?

Steffwalks- thank you for the info and the welcome! I'm was hoping to find a group I could share my triumphs and tribulations with.

If it's okay, I guess I'll share about myself...

I'm a big guy who couldn't run the mile in high school. Now, I love it. I started running to lose weight about eight years ago. I wasn't very serious about it for a long time, but that gradually changed as I got more into it.

Normally I run at the local gym or, in good weather, on a great bikepath that used to be an old railroad line. It travels through the woods and over a river and connects to other paths that travel from Wisconsin across most of Northern Illinois.

I am a certified Disney nut and this led to my first organized race ever. In 2008 I participated in the Inaugural Expedition Everest Challenge at the Animal Kingdom with my new wife while on our honeymoon. I was hooked right then. Running is now my excuse to travel to WDW as often as I can!

Since then, I have run a local 5K, returned for the 2009 Everest (and completed before the sky opened up!), and completed my first ever 10K at the 2009 Race for the Taste at Epcot in 1:01:55!!! This was a BIG DEAL for me!!!:cool1:

Since that race in October of last year, I haven't been running as I was diagnosed with colon cancer. I had surgery on December 29th to remove part of my colon and have been on the road to recovery since. I AM NOW CANCER FREE AND READY TO START RUNNING AGAIN!! Only....I developed some post op blood clots in my left leg and can't run. Grrrr.....

I told myself that if I made it through everything, I would race again!! I consider myself blessed to be alive. So far, I have signed up for the 2010 Everest race and the 2011 half marathon. I can't wait to start training again (and also get back to work). My doctor okayed me to do some light walking at the gym, but not much more. Patience, patience, patience....
So in the meantime, I'm reading Marathoning for Mortals by John Bingham and dreaming about warmer weather!!!!

If I can, I'll rely on all of you for my "fix" until I can get going again. And I hope to get to know all of you better!!

-Mike:goodvibes

Hey Team!!!

Hey Mike! -So glad to have you with us! What great news that you are cancer free. I know how hard this can be on a family. Follow your doctors advice, you will be running before you know it.

Congrats on some great races. You did really great on the Expedition Everest if you missed the deluge! Seems like Disney Races were pretty rough weatherwise this last year! It can only get better, right?

FYI for all the new people! I am Connie, the captain of this team. I think what that really means is that no one else wants the job. I am the grandmother of 6 and a walker. I admire runners and wish I could do more of it, but alas, a sprinter never really goes the distance! :rotfl: That was my specialty in High School.

If you have questions about us or for us, feel free. There are some great athletes on this team and YOU are one of us, now!

Margie Steel cut oats are the same as all the other oats except, Steel cut are chopped. Old Fashioned Oats are steamed and rolled flat. Quick Oats are steamed, rolled flat and cut into smaller bits to cook faster. Instant Oats are steamed, rolled flat and cut into even smaller bits for even faster cooking. They are all good for you!

Vicky- That's a problem with sugar! :scared1: I have it too! Don't feed the beast and you won't have to face metabolic syndrome!

Pam and Mike! We are all cheering for you! Can you hear it? :cheer2:

See ya - Connie

Good evening Team!

Can you believe it. I blew off Sat. run. Too much on the schedule.
Made up for it today with a 3 hour spin class which was really good.

Welcome Pam & Mike. Glad you could join us.

Margie, How is your DD?

Lynn, Here's continued pd for your knee. How's work going?

Vicky, What to say about that hill. The problem, it's late in the race & I found it steep. Not overly long but not short either. The Grim Reaper is after the hill when you are on York Blvd. going by the cemetary. I notice that it's a sell out already.

Have a great week everyone................Sue

Any technical advice on how to add a picture to the bottom of my posts?
I'd like to add a photo of me and my wife to put a face onto my messages. I'm still learning how to use the forum!

Welcome Mike!

Go to your user CP and go to the signature section. You can add images from their that will show in your posts.

It's really good to see I'm not the only one having to deal with cold crappy weather! haha! :rolleyes1

And YES indeed I really can hear you all cheering us on, so thanks thanks thanks and keep it up. Today I went out on a fabulous walk in the sunshine with my dd22 and our beagle buddy named Shilo, the very sweetest and dearest puppy ever. It was wonderful. And I thought about the team, and wondered how everyone was enjoying this Superbowl sunday... So, have a good tomorrow. I'm cheering right back for you all too. ;)

Good morning dear team mates. Is it spring yet?

The Boy Scouts are 100 years old today. Surprisingly though in 1970 there were 6 million members and today only 4 million. I guess doing stuff outside isn't as popular as it once was. Hummm, maybe there is a connection with the drop in overall fitness of the nation.

I'm off today so it's a busy get stuff done day. Starting with meeting another race walker for speed training at the high school track.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Hi Everyone!

I am back in the real world. I was up in Madison NH in the mountains where I had no cell service at all. One of 32 in our group was able to go to the top of the tubing mountain and get service. I tried but ATT was not available. I have never had No Service on my phone. It was pure bliss. No calls, no text – we did have cable TV but 3 women in the room ruled the remote so we watched Project Runway on Thursday and Friday nights. Saturday night we didn’t watch TV we talked and drank home made Baileys in our jammines.

No work outs except at the sewing machine. I worked on a rather large and intense quilt that will be posted at a later date. Top is almost done and will be off to the quilter to finish. Others are also in the finishing stages so I will post pictures later.

It was also a restful weekend, with lots of laughs, good food and fun.

I will post my workouts once I start again. Not today but probably tomorrow morning.

Take care all. Now to get caught up on all the pages I missed.

Good Morning Friends, :goodvibes Happy Monday.
What a great game last night, not really cheering for either side but is was a lot more entertaining than predicted. Missed the big snow this weekend, here, hope everyone that got it is OK.

Dave~ my son is still involved in scouts, working his way up. His goal is to make eagle by 17. The three w's of scouts dropping out ~ wheels, women and work. Not necessarily in that order. :lmao: high school takes a toll as well with social changes.

Denise~ anywhere near Carrol NH? A close friend is the Chief of Police there and loves it. Twin Mountains? He sends pics of moose and bears that come by his house....

Pam~Mike~ Welcome to the team. I think you'll find we discuss pretty much anything and everything.

Margie & Connie~ Good morning hope all is well.

Lynn & Scott~ packing already? Do you guys ever un-pack????? :lmao:

Vickey~ Jennifer ~ Sue~ Robert, Mornin'! Jenn nice run ;)

Syko~ Hi, congrats on your race, cool machine by the way.....

We have a Chili contest among the town workers Friday. made mine this weekend to allow the spices to set. Should be fun....

Well time to crack the box :surfweb: and see what happened over the weekend.

Morning everyone! Sunny but cold day here! I'm with Dave - when is Spring coming?

Jack - Yum chilli! Are you allowed to share your recipe once the contest is over or is it top secret?

Denise - Sounds like a fun weekend! I like the idea of no cell coverage. Sometimes its really hard to get away from work and the real world.

Dave - I miss Girl Guide/Scout cookies. I don't see them around very much either. From what I've seen, a lot of kids now do team sports like soccer or hockey. Maybe there isn't enough time for Scouts?

Sue - Wow! Good job on the 3 hour spin class! I wondered why they wouldn't have done the course backwards but I guess part of the fun is that hill. I'm going to practice on the Yonge Street hill (the one that's at the start of the Goodlife marathon). That's the only hill that's really steep that I can think of.

Mike - Pretty cool that your wife is into training as well! I wish I could get my DF started...

Connie - Thanks for the explanation of the oats! I reached waaay back into my cupboards this weekend and found a bag of 3 to 5 minute oats and gave them a try. They're definitely much more filling than the instant oats. I ate a bowl before my run on Saturday and didn't fill hungry during or after. Yeah, that sugar monster, what can I say? I have a couple of birthdays coming up in the next few weeks so I'm going to see what I can do to avoid it. I'm not very good with just having one piece either.

Margie - Any updates on DD? I find steel cut oatmeal has a slightly nuttier taste than regular oatmeal :)

As For Me - I had a really good sleep last night. I woke up and most of the hip and knee soreness from yesterday was gone! Yay! Going to the gym tonight for training and that's about it. I'm hoping to get out early tomorrow morning so that I can get a quick 2.5 mile in.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Another race won....................but I was the only female.:lmao:

I only got frost bite in my toes, apparently once you get it you get it quicker next time. I've had it now 3 times since october!!!

I got a hand made ceramic place and medal.:thumbsup2

Had some trouble with the cycle escort, he could not keep up, and i was only going 17mph.:rolleyes1
I missed the turning because he was behind me and had to turn out in the road with all the traffic.:sad2:
He gave up at the half marathon turn around and the police took over, they went off and left us to deal with the traffic at road junctions our selves!!!:scared:

A ver small race with only 300 in the full, if you want to BQ this would be a great place.:thumbsup2

This mornings workout was wonderful. It was cold, took 3 miles of brisk walking to get warm enough to start the speed intervals.

4 X 400m 2:40 2:32 2:38 2:37 Not bad less than a month from the Goofy. I hope to be doing 400s at 2:00 by summer. That is 8 min mile pace walking.

We are forcasted more snow tonight and tomorrow. Not much but still more than we are used to.

Syco, Great job!!

Okay guys, I'm going to test out my leg again at the gym tonight! (Probably while shoveling snow too, by the sounds of the forecast)
For those of you who don't know, I developed blood clots in my left leg after cancer surgery. Cancer is gone and my leg was getting better and I could walk on a treadmill. Then I went for a ultrasound on my leg and it swelled up after all of the tech's pressing the wand into the clotted area. That was a few days ago and the swellings gone down again.

I'M GOING FOR A WALK!!

Kristy- Congratulations on ‘Going to Boston’!!!!! :cheer2: We will be looking for a picture of your new pink chair :cheer2::cheer2:

Lynn- Showering you with pixiedust: for those knees!

Mike- Take Care-swelling down does that mean ‘Good News’ that the blood clot is dissolving? :flower3: I developed blood clots in my left leg after cancer surgery. Everything was very convenient.

Pam- I do not remember reading a post about you, but did see you have a DD 22 and a wonderful dog to walk with. :goodvibes

Scott- Jeez, do you keep a cot at work? :faint:

Sue- The Grim Reaper is after the hill when you are on York Blvd. going by the cemetery :lmao: Hope you had a great Yoga Class last night! :goodvibes

Good morning, everyone!!

Wow, what busy lives we lead!

Kistie - Congratulations one the win, the new chair and the BOSTON trup!!! Do you get to use your new chair for that one??

Mike - Hope it all goes well. Hopefully, you will get that clotting thing under control and feel young a vibrant once again. The trip sounds great! I have never stayed at All Star Sports resort. I like PoP.

Denise - Josie is sooooooo cute. It's a wonder you get anything but looking into that face, done! Glad your trip was haven of cell phone silence!

Margie - Hey! Sorry about Sara. Seems like this is becoming a way of life. I am thinking that some bio-feedback might help or at least a pain clinic!

Dave - Good job! Get lots done on your day off?

Robert - About that weather! We keep getting snow. It hasn't even melted and we get more. I guess DC will be in the ice box for a while. As Jay Leno said, "There's already 2.5 feet of snow in DC. I guess it's true what they said, the Saints will win the Superbowl when hell freezes over!"

Jennifer - Love rest days. With all the running, do you have a hard time relaxing and calming for Yoga? The girls sound like they are coming along quite nicely!

Vicky - Did you get the run in, how about the gym. Is the hip still holding up, now?? Sugar, it's in everything. I buy a 15 grain bread. The first ingredient is whole wheat flour and the second is ...SUGAR! Glad you enjoyed the oats. This way you have control over that sugar!

Jack - How did that chili contest come out?? Jon says I make the ultimate chili, I think he mostly loves the cook!

Pam - how's the workouts coming? I know it's hard in the snow. I bought a Treadmill for that reason. Now if I could just make friends with the darn thing! I once heard a cardiac doctor say that for every old man who had a treadmill used a riding lawn mower. THey could have saved money all the way around if they just bought a simple push mower!! :rotfl:

Hope - Congrats on your first day back to work!!! I know you didn't really want to go, but it's a great sign of your recovery!!! :woohoo:

Lynn and Scott - I know you unpack! I hear you talk about packing!!! :lmao: My recommendation would be...Magellan and Travel Smith. They have lovely travel clothes! You can just throw them in the washer and the repack them and they won't wrinkle!!

Where are our Missing Friends?? Kim, Mary, Shannon??

I had to go to do errands for Jon, yesterday. And it was snowing and it is supposed to snow today. And I HAVE to make friends with that treadmill, soon! But not today, I can X-train, today!! See ya!

Morning team! Wow - everyone's posting this morning! Just a quick fly-by for me today. Well, I woke up early this morning to go running. It was a quick 2.5 miler. The first 1/2 was a bit sluggish but then I got passed by another runner on the second 1/2 so I had someone else to pace. Trained at the gym last night. My PT had me doing a new exercise called the renegade row. It's basically a pushup done while holding onto weights and then doing a set of rows after. Tough but good for the core I think.

Denise - Josie is such a sweetie! Enjoy your massage tonight.

Margie/Connie - I made the oats while making dinner. I stuck them in the fridge afterward and then microwaved them for breakfast.

Kirstie - Wow! Boston! That's awesome :)

Robert - I'll take the rain over snow anyday!

Hope - I know what you mean about waking up in the morning! I'm not much of a morning person, especially when it comes to work. Don't shovel the snow/ice! Take it easy :)

Congrats syko! Love the city of Boston and it's an amazing race. Not that I'll ever do it, but I love watching it. So enjoy every second of it.

funwalker-I am an assistant seafood manager for a grocery store. We have cases that we need to shovel about 250 lbs of ice into every morning. Melting and putting new ice every day in helps with appearance and sanitation. But within a month, I shall be getting rid of one of my four cases. I did not miss shoveling every morning, but it was a great workout.

bunnyfoo-Yep, not a morning person either. I am taking it easy.

I made it through my first full day. It was easier then I expected, but it was a slow day, no shoveling or load. Which helped a ton. My second in command was thrilled to see me back and happy to see me rested and adjusting well. On a much more exciting note, I have the money to pay for my wedding gown! SO EXCITING! :woohoo: Linky goodness for those who want to check it out (http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49995498&currentIdx=58&subCategory=-49999486|-49995498&catentryId=6097471&sort=). I don't know if anyone remembers but in 2007 I competed in the National Senior Olympics. I finished 9th in the 1500m. The guy who was 8th (they recognize eight places) thought he had been disqualified because he had been carded the 3 times required for disqualification. One on the judges didn't get his card results to the juding table so he ran over to the medal ceremony and claimed the 8th place award. Well I just looked at the results of the 2009 Nationals and he was disqualified in both the 1500m and the 5K races. Oh darn. I was 9th in that 1500m and 8th in the 5K.

His time for winning at state to qualify for thoses games was 10:47, when I qualified in 2006 for the 2007 nationals my time was 9:57 and I'm much stronger now. My qualifier state games are the end of Sept. The winning gold medal time for the 1500 at the Nationals was 8:15 so that's what I'm shooting for, I want to medal and get a berth on the US Senior team that goes to Europe for the world games.

Anyway, I was happy to see that the guy who beats me often in races by frequent running, when he isn't around the judges was finally caught.

Hi Team!

I took a moment to copy Lorelei's message that she left on the joining thread.

Can I be assigned to a team? I'm a newbie and will be a walker. Do teams walk/run together?

I have a long way to go and am only walking about a 22 min mile now and have not been good at keeping up my workouts, so hopefully joining a team will help motivate me.
I'm also a type 1 diabetic (not sure if there's any others out there on WISH) and have had diabetes for more than 35 years now.

I really want to do the half and not get swept but some days I find that I'm actually scared to think about it!

I'm not sure if there are even any teams that would be a good fit for me, but I'm hoping there are!

Thanks!

Welcome!!! :grouphug::welcome:

There are lots of walkers here and one really, really, really racewalker! :cloud9:

I am not aware of anyone who is diabetic on the team, but I have been educating myself on the dangers of sugar, because I have metabolic syndrome. Not the same boat, but definitely floating in the same water!

Again, welcome to the team.

Jack, thanks for the advice but I'm going to beat him this year and do it legally, my race walking students and I are going to sweep the state games and the slots for the nationals. Team Panda hasn't lost many races and this year we are not going to lose any.

I had a bad year last year with the marriage concerns and not training or sleeping well but that's behind me now. I'm even getting in some good training with the cold weather.

Margie give Sarah a hug for me.

Hello team!

Had a lovely evening with Denise and the rest of our quilt bee. Learned how to make pillow cases, and made two for Nick for Valentine's Day. A nice and easy project. Nick still hasn't found anything wrong with them. Yet.

Good luck to Dave and the rest of Team Panda!

Thanks to everyone who liked my dress. Can't wait to get it then wear it while marrying Nick!

HI Lorelai! Welcome!

We got our snow storm yesterday. It would have been my day off anyway, so I stick my tongue out ... so take that Winter.

This past Monday I was stuck waiting on a car repair at the mall so I wound up involuntarily mall walking for 2 hours during that time. Mental note: avoid Sears auto when ever humanly possibly. Wish I had my pedometer. The day before I found time for an extra long walk around the Coast Guard Academy area... super pretty, and the sun was out. Today, I"ll find time again, and the sun is out again. Can't' complain a bit. :cool1:

Hiya Everyone!!

It's been a interesting couple days here in Illinois!! We got six inches of snow, the power went off briefly, and WE HAD AN EARTHQUAKE!! Can't say that everyday!! The epicenter was about 25 miles from here, and the house shook for about ten seconds. No damage is reported, just weird for Illinois!!

Lorelei528~ WELCOME!!, I'm also a newbie here and everyone is really great and very supportive! Go TEAM HAKUNA MATATA :cheer2: I'll be doing my first half marathon next January. The DONALD at WDW.

SYKO~ The belly shots I had to take brought me to my knees in a quivering mass of manhood. I had to have Lovenox twice a day for about a week. I had to have my wife stick me and it burned like heck. Taking Coumadin is much nicer!!

Dave~ You go dude!! (sorry I'm from the eighties)

Margie~ My prayers and best wishes to you and your daughter.

NursePammi~ Not to bash here, but I worked at Sears and their own employees wouldn't take their cars there!

---------------
Walked a 5K in 52.48, lifted a little, rode a bike for ten minutes, and splashed around in the pool for a while. I am still off work on medical leave so I go the gym about 1 A.M. and love having the place pretty much to myself. Doc says I can start running when I feel up to it!!:woohoo:

I had another pool day today and tomorrow will be either the mall or the treadmill. I'm tired of the cold weather and the darn snow. I'd love a long training walk in the warm sun. On the plus side I have been good and kept at it so I haven't lost to much for the back to back snow storms. On the negative side there is another snow storm scheduled for this weekend.

Have a restful evening y'all.

jack and mike: not much of ANYTHING.... including sales people. Sad sad situation. The only thing that the mall is really good for is to walk and be in from the elements. My hair stylist is in the Lords and Ladies salon, but otherwise I generally don't shop there. More of a Big Lots or Ocean State Job Lot sort of budget lately.

Got a nice 1.3 mile walk in today. Had to cut it short b/c of icey walkways, and then rode the SEAT bus home. Blast from the past.

I have to go to the mall every day since I'm the evening manager and licensed optician at the LensCrafters store. Before I started doing that I hardly ever went to the mall except to walk.

I'm up at 5:30 and getting ready to head off to the Gym to do something. Right now I'm at the drinking coffee and thinking about it stage.

I think we should suggest that God share our snow with the Middle East since they need the moisture and they sure as heck needs some cooling off.

Have an amazing day y'all.

Dave, good luck in your training! The coldest I ever went out was 15 with a wind, that was crazy, you might want to re-think that.

Happy Friday everyone! Worked out at the gym last night and then did a quick 1.5 miles on TM before heading home. I was meeting DF afterward for dinner so I cranked up the speed slightly so I could finish on time. I'm planning on running 15 miles tomorrow so I'm hoping that most of the snow on the sidewalks will have melted by then.

Kirstie - That is pricey! It's almost as much as a car!

Dave - Good luck with your training! I'm glad to hear the cheater was caught.

Kim - Glad to hear you'll be there in 2011! I was a little worried from the other thread that not too many people would be around. I'm going for my first full :) Is Mike going Goofy as well?

Lorelei528 - :welcome:

Sue - Any plans for Monday? Aside from the gym, I'm going to be at home relaxing.

skyo- I never knew how much those chairs cost. You've invested more into that then I invested into my car. They are amazing though, how they've fine tuned them for racing. But, I think I put that into martial arts, so if you love your sport, you will do almost anything to keep at it.

Denise-glad to hear you were out and about. Your brother probably would rather have that then the seven or so inches of snow.

I am getting so excited for the olympics. Nick has picked on me about planning my surgery so I could've been home for 'all olympics, all the time' instead I'll be stuck at work. But I have a dvr. And it will be abused for the duration of the games.

The coldest race I ever did was the 5k for the Fallen in October. I think it was 20. We ran into one of Denise's coworkers and she saw Nick in short sleeves and shorts, while the rest of us froze. It hurt too much. Give me cool and dry for a race. The first half marathon I did, it was in the upper 50s, sunny, and dry. Perfect!

GANG: Soo glad for the sunshine again today. Did a little of this and a little of that and before I know it, the only walk I got in was to take Shilo out for 15 min to do his duty.

Gotta keep positive and focused now, more than ever. The spring time and I don't get along, b/t allergies and feeling down, it's tough. Good thing is that it's only a few weeks to get through.

My new and first grandbaby will be here in June, so we will need to get out with the stroller for a walk every day! yay!! :cool1: Plus, I am going to get a big veggie garden by the square foot into my backyard to try and save $$ for the trip in October.

Good Afternoon Team!

Good luck to all those one the east coast and mid west dealing with all the snow!

Connie – Thanks for the oatmeal recipe – we really like the steel cut oats, but they take so long to cook, that we do not cook them that often. One of the gals I work with is into holistic medicine and said to have either oatmeal, almonds or avocado daily to lower cholesterol, so I thought I would try. I made avocado and tuna sandwiches for work all last week.

Last weeks breakfast out was great, I had a kids breakfast of French toast and a strip of bacon – perfect amount of food!

Mike – Welcome again! Great story! Many of us are just walkers – some forced to it by bad knees and others by choice, so we can get you thru the walking portion of your recovery. Congrats on beating the cancer!

Denise – if you are on AT&T and want no service, come to Wyoming – that is why no one here has an I-phone!

Jack – we have a room dedicated to packing, there is almost always a partially packed suitcase on the bed – except if I have to clean it off for guests to sleep on that bed!

Kristie – congrats on the chair delivery, and congrats on Boston!

Connie – I love Magellan and Travel Smith!!!!!

Sorry Dave – no steamer trunk – we are traveling light! A duffle and a day pack each – that is all – we will be taking a lot of undergrounds and trains and did not want to be saddled with lots of luggage! Sounds like you have been doing great on the exercise!

Hope – glad to hear you are doing better!

Kim – Good luck on the Goofy!!!! We decided to do the Space Coast race this year as it will fit with the trip to WDW for MY birthday (for a change).

Welcome Lorelei!

I had my last injection of Orthovisc in my knee on Friday, we will see how it works, the knee is a bit better, told the doc about the new spin bike – he said that was even better than weights. I have been really good about getting the dogs out every morning (M-F anyway) for a 1.27 mile walk. Pretty soon I will be able to watch the sun rise on that walk! I have been getting on the bike for about 30 min almost every evening. Too bad I can’t count miles on that bike (no computer to give miles or time), but I do time myself. Scott had to again go into work today, so I was again on shopping duty on my own. He caught up to me at Sam’s Club.

Have a great week all! Have a Happy Valentines Day!

Vicky, Mike right now is committing to the marathon but I think he might change his mind. What is Nathanial doing? I am going to need a walking buddy.

Scott, thanks we are pretty excited about hosting the Olymipics. I was overall impressed with the openning ceramonies. Loved the celtic portion, as my dad was from Newfoundland, so it is my heritage. I also loved the orca's. Only thing I didn't like was the lip syncing but I understand why they do it. We could never compete with Bejing since we are a democratcy (SP) and need to be accountable to the tax payers but still thought they did a great job. I do wish they included Terry Fox in the openning more as he is a true Canadian hero and icon. WOW did I babble.

Hi team! Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend! Yesterday, I ran 15 miles which is a new milestone for me. It wasn't easy - the extra 2 miles took me an extra 30 minutes on top of the 13 miles from last week but I'm very glad I got it done. My 30K in March will only be extra 3.6 miles or so longer. I think the best part of the run was that I just had a sore ankle afterward and today I felt okay enough to do another 10K!

DF made me brunch today for Valentine's Day. He made a couple Mickey shaped pancakes along with some pineapple sauce and macadamia nut butter. Yummy! Just like the pancakes you'd get at Kona Cafe!

Margie - Sorry to hear about DD :( Will be sending you some pixiedust:

Scott - Keep warm! That is really cold! Hopefully you and Lynn will be able to stop by for a few days for marathon weekend next January. But that's a long time away.

Kim - I was watching the opening ceremony with some friends and thought they were lip synching but no one else seemed to think so :confused3 Yeah I was disappointed that Terry Fox wasn't included but maybe because it was the Winter Olympics... though if we did host the summer games, I can't imagine where it would be.

I'm not sure what Nathaniel is planning on for January. I think he's just happy to not to be doing the races  But I'm pushing him for the half. I'll keep you posted!

Mike - Cool another scrapbooker! Margie and I scrapbook too! Well more so Margie - I'm a procrastinator! Good luck your first day back at work :)

Pam - We actually had very little snow so I can't complain seeing what other people got. There's only little bits here and there - whatever the neighbours didn't shovel off the sidewalks.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi y'all.

Scott I do my mall walking eary when it first opens at 7am and try not to run over anyone. It's just like a race where you have people going slow 3 and 4 abreast like they are the only ones there. I just plan ahead and swing wide around them. Once in a while I'll have to give someone a "Passing on your left", just as I would in a race. I'm usually doing sub 12 min miles but much faster than that and it's hard to make the corners without sliding down on the polished tile floor.

I'm going to have good fun defending my credit rating this week, one of the hazards of divorce and trusting someone else to do what they agreed to. I'm smarter now but I hope it's not a lesson learned at high cost.

I did get in a good 4 miler at the mall this morning and I'm headed to the apartment exercise room after I write this to do an upper body workout. I need some positive to go with the coming negative of next week.

It's forcasted to snow 2 to 3 inches tonight. I wanna be out in the warm sun again.

Hope everyone's nagging injuries are getting better and Margie big hug for your Sarah. Lynn, that knee needs to get with the program.

Have a restful evening y'all.

Hello Everyone!!

Vicky~ Congrats on your first 15 miler. The longest I've gone is a 10K so I can only imagine... someday!!

Dave~ Divorce can be a challenge all around. I've been there and am now remarried to a wonderful woman. Look to the future and you'll get through it!!
I'm with you!

Jack~Alright another Pats fan!! We really wanted to go to the ESPN weekend at WDW just to see if we could meet Tedy Bruschi, but it wasn't in the checkbook.

Hi team! Hope everyone is enjoying the day off :) I went to the gym and got my training done - mostly weights and lunging with weights. I had some trouble with my deadlifts from the floor so my PT had prop the weights up a little. Not much planned for the rest of the day - probably take a nap, get things ready for work next week and watch more of the Olympics.

Mike - When I first started running, 10K seemed like a long distance to me too. Good time on your 5K! :)

Dave - Hope everything goes well this week!

Jack - Are you running out of room for the snow? We usually have snow melters and trucks that come by when heavy snowfall is forecasted.

Chat later! :wave2:

It was great to have a holiday today. Went out for 5. No sun but beautiful weather for Feb.

Enjoying the Olympics. Watched the men's downhill today along with snowboarding. Try to catch some skating later.

I'm heading to the gym any minute now. Tried to go earlier but all the Treadmills were taken

Margie: pirate: Here, I give you a pirate. I hope you like it. I have one and it's cool. ;)

Mike and Jack: go pats!

Dave: wtg on the weight loss!

Bunny: I am in awe of 15 miles. :woohoo: Niiiiiice.

Team: having a good day today. Can't help myself, because the supersonic goodness of yesterday is still glowing into today.

I went to walk over the Bridge with my dd 20 and dd 22. Suddenly dd 22 decided we had to run, and she puts on the drill sgt voice, but I only wind up doubled over with laughter each time.

I said "Cara, this isn't going to work. How about we just try and run 20 steps without laughing?" And it worked, and we walk/ran and then did 30 steps and then 40 steps .. like that over the bridge. Don't know what was more satisfying, the fresh air and moving it out in the sunshine, or how proud they were of their old mom.

So to day the weather is miserable again, the only thing I can do is read up on seed starting. It's time to get my peppers going, and read up more on how to Square Foot Garden, I'm so excited to start the seeds for it! (hehe I called seed starting 'exciting'... should be on the list of 20 Things Old Farts Say)

Have a fine day everyone!

Hi gang,

Weather here is still snowy/icy so no going outdoors for me. Worked out for 40 minutes with my Wii Fit instead. There was a teeny bit of running involved, but not enough to count for anything.

On a happier note, DH and I found out over the weekend that we are going to be grandparents again. This is especially exciting because our DD and her DH have been trying to get pregnant for 3 years! Don't know the due date yet. She will go to the dr. on Friday. The downside is that DH and I were planning on doing the Wine and Dine half in October, and that may be when the little one is due to arrive. Will keep you posted on this one!

Dave, Sounds like things are starting to get better.

Mike, Stay safe and get well!

Scott, Now I feel bad for complaining about highs in the low 40s.

Good news, I now have an awesome 8th grader on my track team. She can run (albeit slowly) a 3200 and shows real potential.

Bad news, my coach/running partner has serious ITB trouble.

As for me 6 miles in 51 minutes.

We are looking to plan way ahead (budget wise) and are looking at resorts for the WDW Marathon weekend and the following week. Does anybody know if the WDW buses really run to ALL the resorts to pick up the participants? How does it work at Fort Wilderness? Is there an internal bus that runs that early? We would like to stay in a cabin! Also, how are the crowds the week following the Marathon?

syko

Buses do run from every hotel, and this year the hotels sold out.......well the only rooms they had left where $1000+ a night, so book as soon as you can!

Hi everyone! Feelin' kind of blah today ... Is it Friday yet? :rotfl:

From what I can remember about booking rooms, you can go ahead and book for 2011 but because the 2011 rates aren't out yet, you'll end up putting down a one night deposit at the highest rate (holiday?) for 2010. That deposit does get counted against your room balance in the end but if you're booking at a deluxe resort, one night can be quite a bit of $$.

Last year, I booked a room in July and from what I remember my TA saying, there was a lot of room. I don't think the 2011 rates had been released but there was a marathon weekend code, that let me get away with a $200 deposit.

Mike - I'm pretty sure there is bus service to the race expo and the race start from all the WDW resorts, except the monorail resorts. The crowds start thinning out on the Monday or Tuesday but pick up again on Thursday and Friday because of MLK weekend.

Hi Team! :wave2:

More snow, cloudy, dark & dreary today– still had to shovel this morning when I got home from the gym-now I am having motivational issues!

Doctor yesterday: BP is under control, pulse is up, so no more medication changes for at least for 6-month, right ear has fluid behind the ear drum, but no infection!

Connie- Where are you? Snowed in? :confused3 Did get the steel cut oats, but have not tried them yet.

Dave-WTG on the weight loss.
Sometimes our life journey is full of curves and bumps, but hang in there as it will smooth out. :upsidedow

Hope- sorry I must have missed your post on the wedding date... when is the wedding? Will it be at WDW? :bride:

Kim- where did you ever get the idea you had to be training to post? We want you to post even when you are not able to do your training workouts! Last year we reserved our room at the POP early – then called to make the changes when the package rates came out.

Sue, Vicky, & Kim- The Olympic Winter Games are exciting. Some tragic and sad happenings. Are either of you close to be effected by congestion and traffic.

MaryJ- Congratulations on your new 'Fun' walk/run :goodvibes

Jack- Morning! :surfweb: Are you shoveled out?

Jennifer- :sad1: Bad news, my coach/running partner has serious ITB trouble.

Pam- :thanks: for the pirate:

Robert- have I missed your post or are you missing! :confused3

I did get a workout over the weekend on the ellip and treadmill and again this morning. I think I've pulled something in my lower back, thankfully my massage is tomorrow night, she can work out the old lady kinks.

Some of you know that my other passion is quilting. Eva - who just had her first son was a team member last year. I made her a disney quilt for little Gage.

Dave - Windwalker was getting a new grandson so I made one for little Aiden and sent it on............ So I am ready to post pictures. While this isn't a heirloom quilt, it is perfect for when the spit up, or have other bodily function messes :rolleyes1. You can throw it in the washer, dryer and back onto the floor.

This is the style of the quilt I made for a for a co-worker it's the same for Aiden and Gage. She had little Connor on Christmas Eve

Today is a more peaceful day for me. To start with the sun is shining, it's still 23 degrees but the gray sky is gone at least for a while. The sun is a welcome sight, like a promise that spring really is coming. It's been such a hard winter for a lot of us.

I have a half marathon next month so I'm going to take advantage of the sunny day to get in a long training walk. Not sure of the distance yet but thinking a 10 miler. I will not do a long race again this year like I did last year. Doing the Goofy with a longest training walk of 8 miles was insane.

My training is already going better this year than it did last year so I'm optimistic for the future.

Hi team! Happy Friday!

Sue - Training for ATB is going well! I did struggle a little bit with the 15 miler last week. I think the plan called for 25K but didn't have it in me for the last 1/2 mile. Glad I got it done though :) Any decisions on a fall race? I think the first price increase date for Scotiabank is on Monday.

Denise - Gorgeous quilts!! They're just beautiful :)

Kirstie - You must have a nice collection of awards going by now! Congrats!! Btw, did I mention that I've been spoiled running with Ben. A lot of my LRs are solo and they feel soooo boring :)

Pam - Sorry to hear you're feeling down in the dumps! I guess it's that time of year when everybody is ready for a change. It will be nice to go outside for runs and walks without having to bundle up in layers. pixiedust: for DD, I hope she gets over her cold soon!

Kim - How's the cruise planning coming along?

Scott - Love that you're always getting in the miles, even when you're on the road! WTG!!

Dave - Did you manage to get in 10 miles this morning? Definitely looking forward to spring - warm air, more green and no mitts, hats and jackets for running! I keep thinking I should be further south but I don't think the weather there has been much warmer.

Margie - Any updates on DD? How's your BP and meds working out?

Hope - What movie did you and Nick end up going to see?

AFM - I have a 13 miler and a 5 miler planned for this weekend. Nothing else exciting going on. Probably will have to get organized at some point and get my taxes done. Fun fun!

Well I have to admit it, you guys inspired me!:thumbsup2 We got our tax refund today and I went out and found some UnderArmor shirts. Then I went out for my first cold weather workout ever!! I walked four miles on the snowcovered bikepath that I usually run on. I learned several things...

1) Working out in the cold isn't that bad
2) It does get colder as the sun goes down
3) The shirts are warm
4) I can really see the doggie doo in the snow:rotfl:
5) I can't wait for Spring!! (36 degrees today)

Dave~ Hang in there! I'm living proof that there is life after divorce. Things will improve. I promise it.

Kristie~ Great award! Put that one out for show!

Thanks to everyone for talking about their workouts, it got me outside today!

Margie, Yeah, I think that's what he's most bummed about.

I gained another decent runner on the track team on Thursday.

Hi Y'all.

Well I went out this morning and did a good five mile training walk. The sun was out but it was 25 degrees and I have a cold so I decided to keep it at 5 miles. It was a very comfortable 13:05 pace on my regular hill route.

Margie I'm going to have to meet you up there somewhere for a race this year. You doing anything half way?

I'm thinking more each day that the Goofy is going to happen again. Not sure why except "I frog flippin love it"!!! Grrrrrrrr!!!

Thank you Mike.

Have a restful evening guys.

I'm off to work but got in a good pool workout this morning. The panda is on a new quest to be the best panda he can be. Eating properly, exercising hard and regularly inspite of the weather.

I'm about ready to commit to Goofy again, I know I have lost it but I will probably commit on March 1st.

Good Morning Team! :wave2:

Sunshine again today – the snow piles are getting a bit smaller.

Connie- How was your lunch with SIL yesterday? Hope your foot is feeling better. Training...You have the Oklahoma City Half coming up in April … Correct? ::yes::

Dave-Nice 5-miler this morning. :goodvibes What races are you and your team doing this year? Good Grief-I cannot keep up with you! I have not registered for any races so far this year. I was going to do the Martian Half April 6th, but so many other time commitments I will not be able to.

Denise, Hope, and Jack – wishing you sunshine and a Great Weekend! :rainbow:

Jennifer- sometimes we never know who we inspire! I hope the girls catch your love of running. ::yes::

Kim- Is your foot problem healed? :flower3:

Kristy- so sorry to hear both of your chairs are broken! Will the repairs take long? :sad1: What do you do for training when these things happen?

Lynn and MaryJ – wishing you sunshine and a Great Weekend! :rainbow:

Mike- Motorcycle show…would love it too! Have had the joy of owning once upon a time. :cool1:

Pam, Robert, and Shannan- wishing you sunshine and a Great Weekend! :rainbow:

Scott- are able to get some down time this weekend to enjoy moments at home with Lynn & the dogs, and even get some sleep. :goodvibes

Sue– hope you have beautiful weather for your run! ::yes::

Vicky- :goodvibes I have been wondering-do you work with a PT each time you go to the gym? They are way too expensive here...I did have one to get me started. I alternate lower & upper body sessions. I am trying to get a good ABS program figured out now. What do you do? BTW were you scheduled for additional blood work? All okay? :flower3: Will check with DD to see if she got the picture emailed?

AFM: :scared1: My little Hagen is having way too much fun shredding papers for me. Plan to go to the gym when Hagen's Mommy picks him up this afternoon.

Enjoy the moments!

Mike I have a 3 year old running around, it's staying in its box. One day I might get something to but awards / medals on.:rotfl2:

Margie repairs are down to $$$ i'm hoping to have one back on the road next month, the other in time for Boston.

Hi everyone!

Hurt my lower back the other day, I think from the elliptical, go figure, I love that thing but when your body says no and you ignore it, you pay which I did. Went for a massage and she stretched me, we had a lot of giggles over that and today I feel great.

Last night we went out to dinner and ran into friends, she's a quilter and he's an acquaintance of Mark, sat together and laughed a lot. It sure helped my back relax. Today Miranda the princess and I went for 4 miles. A sunny day here in NH. Took us about an hour but it was difficult with some snow remaining on the sidewalks, puddles and dog poo to avoid. Fresh air was a refreshing change.

Off to the shower now, dinner at the daughters tonight and then who knows what tomorrow but a walk for sure!

Good Morning Team!

It is snowing here for the second day. We got about 3 inches on Thursday, and we are supposed to get another 3-6 inches today, at least there is no wind with it, so we are not in a white out! Scott is in Washington (State) and is flying home today, just hoping that he can make it home from Denver. I was warm enough yesterday to make the roads wet – so todays snow is over ice. This mornings walk was a bit slower than usual, I kept slipping on the ice under the new snow. I will head down to the basement and ride the bike for a bit after finishing my coffee. Knee has not been too bad lately, just need to keep up the exercise, as that seems to help the most.

Dave – congrats on the weight loss! Good luck with the credit rating problems.
I agree on the curling, I watched it for awhile, and did not understand it at all!

Denise – love the quilts!!!!

Jennifer – good deal gaining good runners on your track team!

Kristie – great award, nice surprise. Hope you get your chairs fixed so you can enjoy the outdoors (if the weather ever cooperates).

Glad to hear the weather is better on the east coast, hope it stays that way for awhile!

Mike – do not buy too many motorcycles!!!

Kim – Keep up the great work!

Hi to all that I missed!

Have a great week all!

My stint is out. It was HUGE. At least eight inches before the curly qs. No wonder it drove me crazy. Nick took a photo for future reference. And we posted it on Facebook. He was also very impressed by Dr. M zipping in and out for it. Took under a minute, a very miserable (for me) under a minute. Hope this is the end of my kidney problems.

Bunnyfoo- The premiere is tomorrow for the film 'The Pond.'

syko- Congrats on your plate! Wish I had the mailman show up with something shiny from Tiffany's for me! Hopefully your chairs will be back in action soon.

Hi Lynn how are you princess, we don't get to see nearly enough of you. Bet your excited about that upcoming adventure.

Hope glad you free of that thing. You are going to do much better now.

We had another pretty day today, I missed it cause I worked day shift but I'm glad we had it. Tomorrow I'll be up early for a 4 miler either in the mall or outside depending on the temp and whether or not it's raining.

Next week looks like this:

Sunday: 4 mile walk moderate

Monday: Speed work, 5 miles total

Tues: Pool running and upper body work

Wed: 8 miles with Group moderate

Thur: Pool running and upper body work

Friday: 4 to 5 mile walk training moderate

Saturday: Pool running upper body work.

There is no rest day since I'll be working opposite muscles every other day. The wed workout with the group will increase to a max of 12 miles and I'll be doing a half marathon 4 times during the year. This will be my training plan for Goofy and for the State Games.

Dave, sleep is such a wonderful thing, this from someone who has just risen from a Sunday nap. Nothing like a rest to make you feel like a new person.

Went for 4 miles today for an hour with Miranda, the princess and Mark. As usual the princess slept through it all.

Margie, I have a GE convection oven and it does a great job roasting things. At the moment I'm making home made granola - it's perfect for two big sheet pans on convection bake. I rotate the pans every 15 mins. My oven is about 10 years old but with the help of my son Nick I've had it for an extra year. Christmas of 08 I was having a housefull of people when the oven died. I do have a spare stove in the basement but it would not have been enough for all my food. He was able to bring his bag of tricks and secure the oven for another year +. Still hoping to continue as long as I can with it. I'll buy one when I HAVE to.

Our sunshine is making things melt and streets/sidewalks are clear for the most part. What a great feeling to be on the downside of winter.

No excuses! Keep moving.

Had a great day today. Worked 16 hours yesterday so it made me totally appreicate every single minute of today. Walked a couple of miles today with dd20 and had a heart to heart with her, just really feeling blessed on this day.

Got lots done today, and there is more to go ... going to start knitting a stranded hat with the mickey mouse ear motif on it. The pattern is on Ravelry.com if anyone is interested. Hi team! Hope everyone had a great weekend! Did my 13 miler on Saturday and it went pretty well. I did the course with the rolling hills and they were still tough but when I got home and looked at the Garmin results, the pace was a little over 11:00 m/m (for the hills section) so it wasn't too bad, for me anyway. Hips were a little tight at the end of the run but nothing else to complain about. I meant to do a 5 miler today but I just wasn't feeling so I cut it short at 2.5 miles and went home. I'll give the 5 miler a try later on this week.

nursepammi - Can't wait to see the hat when it's done! How long do your knitting projects usually take. Hope things are okay with DD!

Scott - Glad you made it home safely! I saw your snowy highway pictures! Yikes!

Denise - We've got the sunshine and warm weather here too. I'm very glad to see the snow melting and can't wait to see some green on the trees again! Hope your back is feeling better! Love getting massages :)

Mike - Here's hoping the snow melts as quickly as it arrives! It's almost March so spring should be right around the corner :) No final decisions on a resort for 2011 but we usually book Pop and see how the money situation is. Last year, we were lucky and were able to book the 4/3 deal.

Kim - I see you've already got your count down going for 2011 :) Have you done the Buffalo race before? Just curious to see what the course and crowd support are like. I only go to Buffalo for outlets :rotfl:

Margie - Glad to hear that your BP is doing better! pixiedust: for your ear infection! Don't push yourself too hard at the gym. My physio is also my personal trainer. He's certified as both so it works out really well for me. I've found because I see him twice a week, he's able to catch things before they get too serious. It's a little expensive but it's kept me running and active so it's one of the few things I'll spend money on :)

Dave - Sounds like a good workout for the week! Glad to hear that you'll be back in 2011!! Yay!

Sue - I remember a WISHer doing the Niagara Falls full last year. I can't remember who it was though. The dualathon sounds like fun! Do you think you'll eventually do the 1/2 Ironman? One of our vendors at work did the Ironman in Florida - she loved it! But those distances are scary!!

Jennifer - Wishing we had your weather!

Kristie - Hope you had fun at MK! Are you doing the Princess in a few weeks (Sorry I can't remember if I asked you before).

Hope - How was The Pond? I looked it up on IMDB but it doesn't look like there's much info on it.

Lynn - Glad to hear your knee is doing better! Take it easy on the sidewalks. Do you use Yaktraks or anything like that?

Shannan, MaryJ - :wave2:

Have a great night everyone!!

Thanks for the head's up about the knitting pattern. I printed off a copy, but it would certainly be a challenge!

Ran 3 miles on Saturday, then went for a leisurely stroll on Sunday (3 miles again). Been having some lower back pain and have tried everything I can think of, (chiro, heat, cold, Biofreeze, etc.) but nothing seems to help. Pain is worse when I'm just sitting; no real pain when running. Going to see if I can get in for a massage this week.

DD is doing well with the pregnancy. Some of you may remember that she had open heart surgery last February. We think that a positive pregnancy test almost one year to the day later was an excellent anniversary gift! She is six weeks along, and we have decided to go ahead and sign up for Wine and Dine. Her due date is Oct. 13, so hopefully she won't go early! Don't think they care if it's a prince or princess, but since we have 2 grand princesses all ready, I guess a grand prince would be nice! :)

There was a break in the rain so we got in our speed intervals this morning. It was a very pleasent 49 degrees so perfect for cranking it up. Our race walking intervals were faster than last week, last week fastest 400m was 2:32 this week was 2:28. I even did a 1:09 200m sprint. Each week should be a little better.

One of my Team Panda members went to a race walking 5k in Kingsport Tenn and said the elbowing from other racers was vicious. I told him to get faster and the elbowers couldn't catch him.

Good Morning Team!

Dave – yes, we are getting really excited about the trip – that is about all we do on weekends is plan for it. Sounds like a great training plan!

Margie – the drive from Denver did take Scott much longer than usual – he said the roads were sheets of ice!

Vickie – we do not have sidewalks out here, I walk in the street – but it is a rural area, so not much traffic. I used yaktraks in Jackson, but I haven’t used them much here, it is so rarely icy. I do have a pair and I will probably put them in my pack for todays walk, as the roads are still snow covered. I also do not walk very far, my loop is 1.28 miles.

I am working a few later shifts during the week which is allowing me to spend a little more time on the computer.

I got up this morning and got ready to take dogs for their walk, then looked at the thermometer, it was 6.5 below 0! Then turned on the TV, and they were saying the wind chill was 20 below 0! I guess our wind sensor is frozen because it is saying 0 wind, and while the wind is not great, I can see that it is blowing somewhat. I decided the dogs could wait until after breakfast this morning - so I still have not gotten out for our walk - but will need to do so soon! We got almost a foot of snow in the 2 days of snow. Wind was not blowing - so it did not blow to Nebraska and is still on the ground. I do need to get outside - inspite of the temps - at least the sun is out!

Have a great week all!

Connie - Hang in there! Just a couple more weeks until spring!:flower3:

MaryJ - Glad to hear things are okay with DD! Hope your back feels better soon! Have you checked your shoes as a source of the problem? When mine get "old", I get knee pain. I'm a stomper so my shoes don't even last as long as they should

Lynn - Stay warm! How do your dogs fare in really cold weather? I'm thinking it doesn't even faze them.

Kirstie - Hopefully your chair gets fixed soon! Will your sponsors help with the repair costs?

AFM - I'm off to the gym tonight for a training session! I also registered for a few races in the summer and fall - a 10 miler, 1/2 marathon and a 10K. I got a $10 discount for registering for all three (same running group organizing all three) but then the discount gets eaten up by the online processing fee. Sheesh!

Hello Team HM,

I started John Bingham's Running for Mortals 10K Run/Walk program today! This is the first offical program that I have ever followed. I figured since I am pretty much starting over after the time off for the cancer surgery, I'd try something new. My goal is to complete this 11 weeks and eventually move on to the 10k run program or the half marathon run/walk. Last fall I ran my first 10K at the Race for the Taste at WDW, so I'll see how it goes!

Scott~ Sorry no new bikes for me this year, I bought another used one last fall, just before I found out about my cancer. (1990 Honda Hawk GT650) I'm looking forward to the riding season! Hmmm...I like to run, like to ride, maybe I need to move someplace warmer!!

Vicky~ We might stay at the POP when for Marathon weekend, so hopefully we can meet up! We also like the suites at the ASMusic because our son can have his seperate room. Still thinking...

Back to work for me tonight, I'll be sleepy tomorrow...

Stay warm everyone, Mike

Well, we got the snow- about 6-inches of heavy wet snow. It is actually one of those beautiful post card moments. Cleaned the drive-now I need to go clean up the huge piles that the snow plows left in each end of my drive!

Connie- We miss you! Michigan is a one of the lowest sunshine states- but I would send what we have if I could! :grouphug:

Dave- Impressive workouts :worship:

SAD...be thankful you do not know him. :sad2: One of my Team Panda members went to a race walking 5k in Kingsport Tenn and said the elbowing from other racers was vicious. I told him to get faster and the elbowers couldn't catch him.

Canada: then we have that awesome sportsman from Russell who apologized when he won the Gold-he got excited and shouted out. He felt bad that he might have hurt the Silver Medalist feelings! :worship:

Denise & Pam- :thanks: for the information on the Convection/Microwave. I am seriously thinking the GE Profile, but I have not read any of the reviews – any thoughts on the stainless interior? :confused3

Hope- Great news on getting that long stint removed! PTL you are feeling better. :flower3:

Jack, Jennifer, Kim, Kristy, Lynn, MaryJ, Robert, Shannan –wishing you sunshine! :rainbow:

MaryJ- Oh, goodness I remember all your DD went through- Now they are expecting a little bundle of joy - PTL that is wonderful news! :littleangel:

Lynn- that cold is brutal! Be careful and dress warm if you go out-that is dangerous for any exposed skin! :sad2: A foot of snow-do you have snow shoes? :goodvibes

Mike- Be thinking of you tonight…hope the first night back is no so bad!
The Motorcycle Show sounds awesome. What was the most impressive Bike you seen? Why? They say February is actually a good time to buy! Depends on where you are in the Chicago area – you could just be 2-½ hrs plus from Portage. I think I am about an hour south of Middleville, not using a major road, so it could take longer. You would be most welcome anytime! OR I would be happy to meet you and your family somewhere. How old is your little guy? :goodvibes

Vicky No help with the repair costs, thats why its taking so long.
Dh is starting to talk to HED and Phil again as I want to start racing federation, but to do that I need legal wheels.
I'm hoping to get a good discount again from them. I'm on pro rate from HED and full from Phill. Hopefully that will continue.

Dave I konw how your team mate felt......I get the same, with wheels.

We went to the Richare Petty race track today for our free ride along.:cool1: I think the best part was trying to get in and out. I found the ride along too slow and boaring.:confused3
I think as I have driven at 120mph them going at 140mph was not enough difference, but it was a nice change from the norm and especially as it was free!!!:thumbsup2

Hi everyone! Funny what a little snow will to do a city ... I guess we've been spoiled not having much snow this season because the few inches we got yesterday seemed to cause gridlock on every single street. It took me an extra 30 minutes to get home and I probably got off easy. But I had to go to the gym for training - luckily the gym is a 15 min walk from my house. I walked and ended up beating the traffic :) Of course when I got there, I was completely sweaty but at least I was already warmed up! Hehe!

Mike - There's a WISH meet every year at Pop usually the Friday before the races and another meet on Monday morning at the Boardwalk Bakery. They're always lots of fun :) Good luck with the 10K program! :thumbsup2

Sue - How was your commute last night? I heard a lot of people on the subway saying they were planning to take a snow day today :) WTG on the double 10 milers!! Can't wait until I get to that level of running!

Dave - What's with the elbowing and aggressiveness? :confused3

Kirstie - Starting your own racing federation sounds like a cool idea! Sorry to hear the repairs are so $$ :(

Margie - What kind of exercises are in your core routine? I'm always looking for new exercises :) Another 6 inches? I hope that's all you get - you always seem to be out there shoveling snow.

Well, that's all for now! Check back in later :wave2:

Hi Team,

Got my workout in yesterday and today! Ran/walked 5min/1min yesterday and today I crosstrained by bike riding and lifting. It was good to be back at work last night and alot of people missed me. Boss was especially glad as he was short help in other areas of our store. I work in a grocery store that is 337,000 square feet and it's all groceries. That's the size of a Super WalMart. My legs are a little sore after my workout and being on the move all night!

Margie~ Robert (our son) is getting over an ear infection right now. He has a cough, but it hasn't slowed him down a bit. I wish I had his constant energy. Look forward to meeting in person with you. I just can't promise when. Hopefully, this summer sometime. It takes about 5 hours to get to my sisters in Middleville.
I love the Honda VFR 1200. It's a new model for this year, and considered a sport tourer. (Sport bike with hard luggage mounted on) I like to go fast and carry stuff with me. Plus it's big enough for my wife to ride on the back.
I used to be a Motorcycle Safety Instructor for Northern Illinois Univerisity and the Illinois Department of Trans. ( So I'm kind of bike nut!) :cool2:

Kristie~ I understand about putting your nice awards away! We have a few items hidden away for an empty nest someday. Robert is four so he can do some damage sometimes..:goodvibes Currently he is rearranging the couch buliding a fort and running around with a laundry basket on his head.:sad2:

Vicky and Hockey Chic(sorry I haven't found your name yet) ~ Meeting at the Pop Century Resort sounds fun. Look forward to putting some faces to the names here!

Has anyone tried a product called YAKTRAX (YAKTRACKS?)? Supposed to be for running on the snow.

Off to bed for me, gotta work again tonight! -Mike

bunnyfoo- The Pond was a very bittersweet story. Very good.

I was a good egg today. After bombing inventory and potentially figured out what was wrong, I walked the two miles home. I didn't set the world on fire, But I did it. I also did ten sit ups and ten wimpy push ups. So, I'm slowly working my way back.

Mike Yak Trax work very very well, standard issue in some parts of Wyoming.

I like my V-Rod and FLHTUC, just wish I had more time to Ride. MSF classes are the best thing going for new and old riders.

Hi guys, I'm just home from a 12 hr shift and having a beer to relax while watching some cop show and waiting for the news so I can see what weather delights await me for my morning 8 miler.

Has everyone got plans for how to crank up their training when the winter weather does finally break? That's a time to really get motivated again.
