I have set up a Miles/Minutes spreadsheet for any Warriors that want to participate. This would just be for us, not comparing numbers with other teams, just within ourselves. This is just for those Warriors who would like to do it, you do not HAVE to participate. If you would like to do this please PM me or email me at WISHerTracy@gmail.com. It starts with January and goes all the way to December. You are allowed to double your miles for any race that you participate in.

HAVE A GREAT FEBRUARY EVERYONE!!!

Good Morning Warriors!! No training for me since Friday when I did 8 miles on the treadmill. Had a scheduled 5 miler yesterday, but ended up sick so I slept all day. No training today as I have both kids alone as I do every Monday so it will give me another day to rest. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the welcomes to the team. I look forward to talking to all of you throughout the year!!!

Courney - Yay for another MI person! Yes, it's noice of us to share our weather with teh rest of teh world. :-p Went out yesterday adn I don't know what happened, but 29 degrees did not used to freeze my lungs, feels much colder than the temp says. I can't imagine Goofy or Dopey can feel better than your first full, but maybe I'm wrong. Thinking of doing Goofy in 2012, but it's taken a long itme to even think about it.

Cheree - WTG on C25K. That seems liek a really tough prgram, but I know many love it. Believe it or not, I think marathoning for mortals started me out much easier.

Michelle - 10? So soon after Goofy? be happy with your 8. Tha's on tap for me next weekend adn I only did the full.

Tracy - How'd your half go?

Kate - Glad your body (and house) are happy with the rest from running! HOpe this is the fix you need!

Good Morning, Warriors! And a happy February to you! The Monday Mixer is back and this time, it has it's very own thread! Come on over and chat if you have a minute today!

In spite of this weeks' question being all about ice cream, things are already starting to warm up at the W.I.S.H.-Wide Monday Mixer! (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2386741)

What is the Best Ice Cream Treat on WDW Property? Include a picture or a story, if you have one!

Come and join us - it's lots of fun! (plus, I'm about to bust out the beverages!) See you at the Mixer (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2386741)!

Hoping to get out today and walk about 4 miles. Will have the kids with me (6yr. old twins), but there is a playground at the end so maybe I can use that as bibbery.
We have a snow day here in TN, but the temp is supposed to be in the high 40's so I am hoping when my husband gets home from work he will be up for walking. :cool1:
As for the C25k program it seems like it will work, but I am going to need to take at least 2 weeks to get through the first week. My goal with it is to be able to run the first 5k at DLR so I can get a headstart on the sweepers. pirate: to close for comfort at WDW. There is a 5k for Valentines day around my house and one on March 26. I will probably do the one on March 26 since it is around the corner from my house. Can not pass on the ones that are so close by.
Hope to get out there soon.

Wow, Warriors, I can't even keep up with the thread, you guys have been so busy!

I did my first post-Goofy run yesterday, but it was short and on the treadmill. 2.5 miles in 30 minutes. My goal is to do at least 30 minutes of SOMETHING 5 days a week, until I start training for the Rock n Roll Seattle marathon in late February.

I'm still signed up for the marathon, but the half marathon is looking mighty tempting right now. I've really been dragging my heals and just not having a lot of energy the last couple weeks. I have my 4 month appointment tomorrow morning; I hopefully will be able to hear the baby's heartbeat tomorrow. At my 3 month appointment (the day before I left for WDW last month) the machine was picking it up and my OB could just hear it, but my husband and I couldn't make it out over my own heartbeat. So, crossing my fingers!

dsnyfan21

Sarah: I am crossing my fingers for a heartbeat also!!

OK, I have updated the first post for February. I listed all that I know of who are Warriors. I have also put up the Warrior clippies for anyone who would like to add to their sig.
Please go read and check out the information.

As for how my half went, I would have to say, I finished. This was my 11th Half and well, it wasn't all that great. I have had some personal issues and then family drama the day before (didn't know if I even had a ride) and then my right knee started to bother me around mile 5 when I would jog. For those who don't know I started out as a racewalker purely. Within the last year or so I have gradually added jogging intervals. I just tried to ignore it and I would fell a twinge when jogging. Around mile 8 it really started to hurt every step I took when joggin and mostly when I had to bend the knee. I thought oh no, something isn't right. Oh, btw, I was targeting for a 2:45 pace. I had even gotten a pace bracelet to keep on track. I was ahead of it by 30 seconds, but that started to dwindle.
By mile 8 when I heard the beeping of my watch to start joggin - FORGET IT! The step out was fine but bending the knee to come back was not happening. It would just stiffen up and I was like limp jogging. I decided at that point I was going to have to walked the rest of the way in. I sucumbed to this fact and even ripped of the pace bracelet as I was a bit upset. I did file a race report on that thread if anyone is curious. I have done this course before as this was my 3rd ING Miami Half Marathon. I did get a course PR and that did help me feel a bit better.

So, I have been icing and taking Aleve. I see the podiatrist today (same leg) and their are Ortho's in the same office and I hope I can get an answer as to what this is.

Have a great Tuesday Warriors!

Tracy - (((hugs))) Just sticking it out is a victory. SOunds a bit like my marathon. Disappointing when you think you can do so well, but it's just not your day for that. be proud of yourself for making the decision to walk instead of risking injury, even though your pride too a bit of a beating. Easier said than done, I know. Hope all goes well with teh doc adn hope life gets better fro you soon! :grouphug: Thanks for putting up the spreadsheeet. I woas hoping you would, but didn't want to ask and make mroe work for you. :upsidedow

Cheree - Hope you made it out adn the playgruond worked for you. I don't knwo how parents do this. you amaze me!

Stan - Way to go on week 3! Awesome!

Sarah - 30 min 5x's a week is a great goal and very good way to rest yteh body before traning. If it were me, I'd change to teh half, but I am lazy. ;)

Did 30 min on the bike trainer last night. Scaled back the tension a bit adn it was much better!

Hola Warriors! Not much to report here. Forced myself to stay home from the gym last night. I had a spin class I was going to do but the knee was still unhappy from me forcing 8 miles on Sun. I figured I better give it a rest so I can go to the track tonight.

We had the timed mile scheduled with our local running group last night. After a 1.5 mile warm up, I figured I would at least try it. The knee wasn't yelling at me yet. My best time had only been 10min flat. So I decided I probably wasn't going to be able to beat that, but that I would at least like to match it. Off we went. 1/4 mile time 2:15...wow, way too fast for me.
3rd lap, my knee decided that was enough, but I told myself to keep going, just slow it down. As I heard my time, I was so mad at the knee! 9:51. While I had beat my PR, I could have crushed it if the knee hadn't given up half way through.

Oh well...I'm happy having beat my time on a bad knee. Just gives me more motivation to go for it when the knee starts to feel better!

Happy Wednesday Warriors --------------------->

Nit much going on down in Sunny (ok, cloudy), Warm (ok, cool) Calm (ok, really it's kinda' windy today....).

I got in about 32 minutes of boring, tortuous, non-moving cardio at work on the 1st, with about 1/2 hour of lifting tossed in.

Today, just under 25 miles on the mountain bike. Lots of self-induced wind chill on that one.

2 1/2 weeks until my next event. Here's to hoping my damaged foot will actually let me do it (without my DW getting the pleasure of saying "See. I TOLD you so........!!" :lmao::lmao::lmao: )

Michelle: Great news on your mile time!!! I guess you are trying to get speedy?? Keep that knee healthy!

Jim: ok "down" here, just remember I am more "down" than you!:lmao: It's been a wierd day, some wind, some grey clouds, some sun. Thinking it must be a weather transition day. Keep on eye on that foot because we all know we don't want the wife to side line you.

Bookwood/Pam: Quilting, vey cool. You will have to post a picture when that quilt is all done.

AFM: went to the podiatrist yesterday for the toe joint. For those not in the know and I will try to sum up. Diagnosed with degenerative osteoarthritis in the big toe joint of the right foot about 5 years ago. Finally got so many bone spurs in the joint, just walking became very painful and sometime my toe with get stuck. Had surgery to clean up the bone and get rid of spurs in June 2006. Now, I was told it would be a temporary thing, so I knew ahead of time. Then I start doing races. I usually would have some paint towards the end of a Half Marathon usually around mile 10, so not too bad. Now its at about mile 4. Podiatrist took xrays and the one long bone going from ankle to the big toe joint is actually moving our of position and away from the other bones. It has a spur right on the side and the nerve that gets irriated from it rubbing is causeing the pain and hurt. I got a shot for that for now and some toe separators. Surgery in not needed yet to fix it up again, for now, but will be in the future.
The knee pain is ITBS, ugh! so stretching and strengthening of the area is needed. I am doing a TOTAL rest this week. No miles, no bike, just rest/Aleve/stretching, etc. I have the Princess Half in 4 weeks and 3 days!!

Keep up the good work Warriors!

Did not need the playground my husband stayed home with them. I got in 4.14 miles in 54 minutes. I was very proud of myself. First time I did that much alone and just was happy to finish the distance I wanted. I ran for a minute on average every 3 minutes or so. Did not keep real good track of how long in between runs I walked after the 25 minutes of C25k was up. Got another 2 miles in today. Trying to do as much as possible in hopes that it will keep me motivated (even if those racing with me in September are not yet working out):confused3

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Hi Warriors!

Back in the gym Monday and Tuesday for short w/o. Didn't make it today. Too much going on here so had to give up gym time. Good thing though. I'm a bit sore and need the rest. Did mostly upper body work and arms are feeling it today. Did get some outside Kirby Dog time too. He's happy.

Good going everyone.

Michelle that is a fantastic mile time- what an achievement

Tracy kind of glad in a way that your toe's not too bad, but so sorry bout ITBS- man if it's not one thing it's another with exercising isn't it! Keep being careful!

Lily sorry you had to sacrifice, rubbish! Life does get in the way doesn't it!

Forthemedal sorry i'm going to have to sit down and relearn all you new guys! That was an amazing workout and running 1 min every 3 is great.

Jim i'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you- i do love an i told you so moment, but never when it involved pain!

me i'm actually really proud of myself as have nearly done 2 weeks with no running! cross trained 11k twice in the gym this week and i'm about to do ea active in the house whilst waiting for my next uni work to be posted online! Physio wants to reevaluate my orthotics to see if my gait's all squiffy again. yawn! Oh do i need to do my intro again?

Hey Warriors!

Over my sickness thank goodness and got in a whole 3 miles last night. I still chuckle sometimes when I do 3 or 4 miles and my non running friends are like that's a short run? lol

We have a forecast of 4 to 8 inches of snow for Friday which is less than some are going to get nailed with over the weekend. Have a concert tomorrow night so getting there if still going on will be a challenge.

Have a great Thursday everyone!

Kathy - Welcome to the Warriors!

Chris - I love teh peak of full trianign when I say I only have an 8 or 10 miler. ;) Glad your are feeling better!

Cherree - WHIle I'm not always training for my next full , officially, our 1 full a year is what keeps us motivated. For our first race, though, we trained 10 months out. Don't be intimidated by teh fact that many racing isn September aren't offically trianing for it yet. Many of us plan other races to keep the trainign fun. Plus, if you stay with it, you will be right there with us, sooner than you think. I think it's great that you are so focused on teh fall. You'll probably hear this many times from me, but Ilove watchign the progress of people trianing for their first big race. Mine was 5 years ago now. I'll never get it back. I can relivve it a bit, though, through the eyes of those meeting their goals for the first time, though. It's awesome. please don't be intimidated by those of us who have more experience. :goodvibes

Jim - I'd apologize about your weather, but it was 14 hen I drove to work today. Sednign tons of pixie dust that your toe holds out!

Tracy - Ugh, yet another thig you don't need. Hope teh shot and toe separators work wonders!

Michelle - I'm torn. I am so thrilled for you for doing so welkl, but so worried that you're not giving it the rest you need. Please eb careful.

Kate - Great job on resting htat foot adn doing the XT!

Lily - Great job on theupper body work outs!

Pam - I'd love to see the quilt pix too!

DH's bday was Tuesday adn I was outside working all day yesterday, so no real work outs. Bakc to teh TM tonight.

Hi Warriors!

Welcome new people! :thumbsup2

WTG on the miles and miles you are all putting in. I haven't done anything in the over a week. I'm relaxing and just resting my body for now....I haven't even signed up for a run or ride for 2010 yet. Maybe next week, something will shake me and I'll feel like getting out there again.

oh, I am going to try AGAIN the 100 push up challenge/200 sit up challenge. Check it out if you're interested:

Tracy - not trying to get speedy...just faster than my usual slowness.;)

Carrie - thanks for your concern:hug:, but I really have been taking it easy. I haven't been running as much, mostly been at the gym on other cardio machines and doing more weights. From what I have read, the knee issue seems to be because of an imbalance in leg strength, so I am trying to remedy that while still trying to get a run in here and there. I'm just to competitive with myself to let the local groups timed mile pass me by.

Which is exactly what I did Wed night. 30 minutes on the crossramp (2.5 miles), 30 minutes of weights and my 15 reward of sitting in the sauna. I love that! Took last night as a rest night. Should be getting 3 miles in later today, but will have to see how the tax appointment goes first.:scared1:

Hi Warriors
I am new to Marathons. I did the 5K UP in January and enjoyed it. I finished it in 1:04. My husband and I are now planning to do the 1/2 for me and he would like to do the Goofy. I am a walker only because of a car accident I had 2 years ago. I need to get my pace up and I am reading marathon for mortals and following it now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kathey and welcome! (from another newbie to the group)

I have so much admiration for those of you that walk and can maintain a 16 minute mile pace- I cant' do it which is why I decided to run when I started doing this 7=8 years ago.

I think some friends and I will be doing the Flying Pig in Cinncinnati in May- anyone have any info on it for me?

Looks like the weather has co-operated and I can actually see road infront of my house so I'm off to the Y to put in another 4 miles for this week!

dsnyfan21

:welcome: Kathey!!

I was originally a racewalker and I still do a lot of that, but have added intervals of jogging to help with speed. You can do any distance walking!! It can be done.

Carrie: Sounds like you are really enjoying your core classes, I just wish I could swing money for membership to a gym that offers lots of stuff, close to work and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I need to write down a schedule for myself as to what I want to accomplish each day. Like the days I will do miles, the days I will ride my bike, the days I will do the pushup/situp challenge, etc. It all gets a bit overwhelming sometimes.

HEY WARRIORS!!! How is everyone doing??

Carrie and I are keeping track of miles and minutes on the spreadsheet, does anyone else want to do that?????

Carrie- September will be my third 1/2, although it is the first one that I want to try and run for a piece. Hopefully I can run for at least the first 5k. I did great in my first with walking time was 3:30 for me that was great. When I did WDW in January I did not do as well my time was 3:40 (Sweepers right behind me through the end). This was two fold I was trying to stay with my sister (slower pace) and around mile 7 I started to get a pain in my inner thigh and it slowed me down. I am hoping by September that at least a 10 mile walk/run is normal for me. My first full I am looking at being WDW 2012. I think I could be ready for 2011, but the folks that I train with are not to sure yet and I enjoy the company when training. :goodvibes

Hi Warriors!

:welcome: to all the new Warriors!

Tracy and Marcia: Yay for you guys taking on the push-up/sit-up challenges! I tried the push-up one last year, but it was just too much increase, too fast for me. Doesn't help that I could only do like 4 push-ups to start! I think I would have more luck with the sit-up challenge, but.... darn, as of this week I've hit the point where I'm supposed to avoid exercises that involve me lying flat on my back... :rotfl:

Tracy:  for your toe and IT band issues! Is that toe the only place where you have problems with your osteoarthritis? My mom has it in her shoulder and, despite several surgeries, had to retire early from her job as an RN, because she just couldn't do the tasks required of her as a nurse anymore.

Kate: Well done on staying out of the running shoes for 2 weeks! I think that's usually harder than just lacing them up and ignoring doctor's orders!

As for me, I've been pretty good at doing 30 minutes of something a day, this week, but it's mostly been walking my two German Shepherds. I'm trying to get the dogs completely comfortable with walking on a leash coupler together, so that it'll be less of an upset when I add a stroller to our crazy traveling menagerie. My problem is that both dogs have been taught to walk at a perfect heel, but they can't figure out how that works when they're both walking side-by-side! Their current compromise is one walking slightly in front and one slightly behind so that they can each be a little closer to heeling with me, but I'm trying to train the outside dog to heel with the inside dog. :rotfl2: Just wait until I start running with both of them! :rotfl: For a change in pace on Thursday, I took the dogs out to Marymoor Park, which is a HUGE off-leash dog park in the country with lots of trails along the river to walk along. I ended up running along the trails with the dogs running somewhere behind or in front of me, with frequent breaks in the open areas to stop and play frisbee (or for Sasha to tackle a Great Dane or try to chase a Greyhound). It was lot of fun and we ended up spending more than 2 hours out there.

Joints in Motion training for the Rock n Roll Seattle Marathon starts February 22, so I'm really looking forward to having a group to run with again!

Oh, and my doctor's appointment on Tuesday went great - everything is going perfectly, and I actually got to hear the little guy/girl's heartbeat (150 bpm, so no problems there!) this time! So, I'm cleared to keep running for awhile, at least!

tracy could you add me to the spreadsheet- i need to tell you guys what I'm doing otherwise I'm scared I'll slack! How are your legs feeling now?

Sarah i love reading your doggie updates, you are an inspiration to other dog owners! Thrilled that the baby's doing wonderfully and cooperating with your running.

Marcia can't wait to cheer you along on your 100 sit up/ push up challenge- i know i couldn't do it as i have NO upper body strength. It's a brilliant idea though.

Carrie it's great how much you enjoy the classes- have to admit i've been missing spinning and a core class would be ideal. 6am would not!

Kathy welcome to he team!

Michelle hope the tax appointment went well! eek.

Chris did you get the snow?

me did 30 mins of hard cardio workout on EA active on my Wii on thurs as was getting over a cold. Oh my goodness- my legs and backside are so sore achey, but in a really good way! That was a workout!!!! There were so many squats and I never do them so i guess that was a fab change for me. Hoping to keep that in each week from now on. Hit my first run on the treadmill today and it went wonderfully, 3 miles and no pain! It was bliss :)

dsnyfan21
02-07-2010, 12:10 PM
Sarah: Great news on the baby!! Your doggy walks make me miss my Mickerdoo, but they are such great stories.

Kate: Squats, who likes em?? who knows, but I know I need to do more of them, so I will add them to "what I need to be doing" list.

AFM: DId 6 miles this morning. ITB was feeling fine until about mile 5. I was doing 1 min jog with 10 min racewalk. (less time jogging more time walking) so I may just stay with that for a time. I have the Princess coming up in a month!! I will try for 12 miles on SUnday and then taper. Seems like my life lately, race, taper, race, taper. It's ok though, keeps me upright and moving.

Hey Warriors!

I got in 3.5 miles outside today with Sasha, today, while DH did 6 miles with Jack. I do need to find a new running route, though - my current one ends with 5 flights of stairs up from the lake shore and it's going to kill me with my new "improved" pregnancy lack of stamina. :rotfl:

Real Name: Sarah
Age: 26
Location: Seattle, WA
Family Stats: Married and expecting my first baby this summer
Meaning of DIS Name: My first and middle names (Sarah Rose)

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh128/scrwaugh/404-404.jpg
Yes, you will get a lot of dog photos from me. I apologize in advance.

Sasha the German Shepherd is 5.5 and was just adopted in October; she's a chubby snuggle bug who is really a Lab puppy in an adult GSD body. Also, she refuses to photograph. There is also Nadia the Russian Dwarf Hamster, a 50 gallon tank of tropical fish, and a 10 gallon reef (saltwater) tank.
Hobbies/Interests: Trying to get myself to WDW as often as possible, my pets, dog training, travel, hiking, biking, and volunteering (currently with the Arthritis Foundation and as head coach for Girls on the Run).

Awesome idea on the introductions. Love reading everyone's info! Good job and keep it up to all you runners, swimmers, yoga-ers. Coolest Things You Ever Did: Running out of the tunnel and jumping to touch the banner at UM football games. Maybe not the coolest to anyone else but you never forget that moment! Is there a drool smiley? OMG, that is the coolest. I had a former player sit behind me at the ND game. We asked what his mane was because the family has had tix since ~1977. HE said we woulnd't know him as he never played. I just looked at him and said, "yeah, but you got to come out of the tunnel and touch the banner" I so understand adn am so jealous, Courtney. We drive through the Lansing area all the time either enroute to Brighton or SAginaw. There's a trail that goes from downtown to MSU alnog the river. That's where we did our first 16-miler.

Nice to see everyone introducing themselve!! :thumbsup2:cool1: We just need everyone else to join on in!!:rolleyes1

I did 3 miles last night after work. At mile .98 it started to rain, not hard but it was coming at me sideways with the wind and all, stopped around mile 2, so I just finished up with 3 miles. The ITB/knee on the right was not acting up at all, I only did joggin intervals at .50-.60, 1.00-1.10, 1.50-1.60, 2.00-2.10, 2.50-2.60 and then 2.85-3.00 and it felt good, nice and easy jog and trying to do more of a leaning forward motion with "landing" some much heel first. Kinda like a chi running or the people who run with the Vibram five fingers (barefoot), though changin my "joggin" style a bit might help.

Keep up the great work everyone!!

Hi Team! Sorry for the delayed start here--didn't realize the February thread was open!

The good news is that I have been training like a fiend and am ready for the Princess Half! Only 3.5 weeks away! I did 11.5 miles last week at an 11:20 pace (certainly not my best, but no worries about being swept at least), so I am feeling good in terms of pacing and endurance.

The bad news...my IT band! Yowza. I am in pain. For a week or so it was merely annoying. I paid attention to it, massaged it, stretched a lot, etc. But today, which was a scheduled rest day for me, wow--it woke up today and has been screaming all day. I am hitting the ibuprofen every few hours and stretching. But other than that...???

I am definitely stressing big time. Thoughts? Suggestions? I know I need to rest it, but with the race only a few weeks away, I don't how many days I should take off. All opinions welcome, from my fabulous Warriors!

HI and WELCOME to all of our new folks. I have to go back and read more thoroughly so I can get to know you. :goodvibes

Here's my intro...

Real Name: Erika
Age: 40
Location: The coast of Maine. Gorgeous, but currently freezing!
Family Stats: Married with a son (10) and 2 girls (7 & 8). Yes, three kids in three years!
Meaning of DIS Name: I think you can figure that one out!
Races: I have done 2 Half Marathons and 2 Triathlons (both sprint distance) and am doing my third Half at the Princess Half in March!
Upcoming Races: Princess Half is the only one for sure. But I would love to get down there again for the Wine and Dine in October.
Pets: Just one tiny little dog named Bailee. She's a Manchester Terrier--looks a lot like a min pin, but has all of the wonderful personality traits of terriers.
Hobbies/Interests: SO many! WDW of course, tennis (I am a fiend) soccer (playing and coaching), softball (coaching my girls), going to the beach, hiking, camping, kayaking, snowshoeing and all of the wonderful outdoor things here in Maine, reading, hanging out with my kids and family.
First Race: I started running in March of 2008. In Sept. 2008 I did the Maine Coast Women's Half.
Favorite Disney Park: EPCOT and MK--love them both.
Favorite Disney Dining Spots: Boma, Wolfgang Puck's Cafe, Fulton's, and I loved Spoodles and still mourn its closing. For character dining--Crystal Palace.
Coolest Things You Ever Did: I am a college professor and while getting my graduate degrees, I spent a semester in Alaska tracking humpback whales and a summer in the Florida Keys tracking and working with Bottlenose Dolphins. My Ph.D. is in Behavioral Science and for a while I was focused on marine mammal behavior. But alas, there is no work in that area, so now I teach and focus on more "traditional" behavioral science stuff, but marine mammals will always be my passion.

I love being a Warrior! I was very active on this team in 2008 and early 2009. The last several months, though, I have not been so active here. My youngest daughter is critically ill and it really took a toll on me this year. I am happy to say that she is doing SO well right now. And I really plan to be a more active Warrior this year! Training for the Princess has really been wonderful for me and I am so excited for the race!

Do we have an active list of those of us doing the Princess? Is there a meet? I am SO out of the loop! :upsidedow

Kathy 3.64 miles whilst at work!?!?! that's a workout in itself. How cool to be able to see how active your lifestyle really is!

Lily hope the snow breaks soon, as pretty as it is you guys are all over our news and it looks very hard work. Given that the UK totally stopped after a few inches you're in a totally different league!

Carrie i'm sure the love will come back- spend some more time just enjoying it rather than beating a hard workout out of it. Usually works for me when i get annoyed with running outside.

Pam great work getting those miles in- i think given the conditions we'll let you off the weights.

Tracy my physio kept telling me to lean more, but i found the concentration needed to keep that up just was not there for me. very impressed you can change your style and whoop for ITB!

Erika so sorry about your pain, but awesome that you're totally on track. I really dont have any useful advice on ITB, for me rolling it and getting a massage helped- i've never found stretching to be that useful but maybe i've done it wrong. Hope someone can help.

Me ran 3.1 miles on TM and 2 miles cross trainer on tues, both ok just little shin rumblings at the moment. About to do another EA Active workout- cue inability to sit again :rotfl: I've spent all morning working for uni (study day) and reading about self handicapping and minimising the perceived threat of failing an event- wonder if i pay too much attention to my injuries... hmm makes you think!

Disneyland Paris for me tomorrow so I'll be back on tuesday :)

Tracy--yes, I am on the Princess Half thread, though I mostly lurk and don't post. There are 8 of us from a Wish thread all going down to do the race together--so exciting! We'll have our own shirts, not Wish ones, but if you see Team Goddess in bright blue shirts, grab one of us and introduce yourself! I would love to meet you during the weekend!

Country roads are icy here but we didn't get nearly the snow others did. I sure hope we have school tomorrow- this staying home is killing me! I did get into the Y to lift weights today but didn't want to run again since I'm not sure what my after school time will be like tomorrow since my 3rd grade nephew is hanging with me. Hey Warriors, it's great to be back! I will do a bio soon I promise. As for me, I had weight and injury problems which caused me to hide. The good news is I have taken care of both problems and just completed the WDW 1/2. I have lost 69 pounds since September so no more knee problems. I feel great!

I am doing the Flying Pig in May and look forward to seeing old friends. Bookwood and Carrie, I can't wait to see you!

Tiger Lilly, thank you so much for taking the time to come back during the WDW 1/2 to say hi and give me encouragement. Congratulations on the Goofy!!!!!

It's time to get moving! Thanks for the welcome!

Erika, ITB, ugh that is so not fun. I limped a Goofy with that. Pretty horrible. I've recently been using the 6" foam roller to try to keep it stretched. Don't know yet if the roller is good to use since I just got it for Christmas, it does want to recur every so often--not as bad as that first time, but I keep working on stretching. Look up on You tube or Google for stretches. It is a tough thing to stretch. Slow it down if you must/can.

I got some great w/o in the gym then lots more shoveling yesterday with the storm that came through. Not as bad as east coast, but enough to get a good snow w/o.

Hi Warriors!

Congrats to everyone on their accomplishements! sorry too many for me to list...I have a short term memory problem.

I hope everyone that got hit with the huge blizzard is safe and not having too many problems in your area.

I'm not sure how much I will be posting, as I'm taking a few months off of running, but I'll be hitting the gym or I'll be out on the road on my bike. The only race I have signed up for this year is the Disneyland 1/2, but if something looks like fun (nice shiney medal) I'm know to sign up for it the month before.

Before I forget here's my bio:

Real Name: Marcia
Age: 43
Location: Alameda, California - San Francisco Bay Area
Family Stats: Single
Meaning of DIS Name: childhood nickname - Mushu Pork, but Mushu was already taken, so I went with Mooshu
Races: 9 full marathons, 18 1/2 marathons (I think), too many 10k's & 5k's to count. I started running WDW in 2000, either the 1/2 or full or both with a few other places thrown in here and there.
Pets: 1 CRAZY calico cat
Hobbies/Interests: vacation, wine tasting, food, etc. LOL
First Race: hmmmm...way back when I was in 5th grade, I think it was a 10k
Favorite Disney Park: Disneyland - the original park!
Favorite Disney Dining Spots: WOW! I'm still trying to find my favorite, I try to go to a new place every visit
Coolest Things You Ever Did: ate at the oldest resturant in the world. "Botin" in Madrid, Spain. Hiking through the forest for 3 hours to get to a temple in Vietnam. WOW so many other adventures..I could go on and on, but I don't want to bore you.popcorn::

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Happy Valentines day!:lovestruc

Happy Freakin' Cold as *@!&#* Friday Warriors!!

It's a rainy miserable day in Sunny NE Florida. Cannot do a flippin' thing today due to the weather. Did some lifting & ab work yesterday, & ran/walked fro the first time in a month.

I did about 2.5 miles on a treadmill (ugh). I walked on about a 10º incline & threw some periods of running in there. I have just started to crack my copy of "Chi Running" that I downloaded onto my Kindle, so I figured "WTH, I'll try this barefoot just to see what happens".

Really interesting. Not uncomfortable, but definitely different. Just by the nature of being barefoot I ran farther "forward" and almost totally avoided the "heel - toe" style. When I ran, it was almost totally running on the balls of my feet (which my PF stricken left foot really seemed to appreciate). And because I was on a TM I was able to work on quickening my stride instead of lengthening it.

It's a long work in progress, but maybe it will work out. I have a 1/2M in 2 weeks that's going to be real slow. My main goal is to "baby" my feet for this one.

Guess that's enough yakkin' for today. Stay warm everyone!

Erika: Yep, ITB, I have been suffering with this as well. Had a massage yesterday and the girl worked me over. She said stretch, stretch, stretch. I have a foam roller also and a stick. So I am getting very good at doing a routine of stretching after my walks/runs when the muscle is warm. Keep at it!

Barbara: Great new on the weight loss!! Whoohoo!! I myself am still working on it. about 10-15 left to got, took a about a year and a half and I am done 30.

I have completed the first week column one of the 100 pushup and the 200 situp challenge!! I did miles on Friday instead of Thursday. Taking today off and doing miles tomorrow. I am supposed to do 12, but I will see how the ITB is feeling.
The WISH Virtual Valentine's Day 5K/10k is tomorrow for anyone who is able to get out of TM it. Good luck everyone!!!

Go Warriors!!!!

Just signed up for the 1/2 Space Coast Marathon in November.:woohoo:
It is not a pace required 1/2 so thought this would be a great starter. Any one else going? We will drive over to the coast on Saturday, but not exactly sure where we will stay. If anyone else has done this please let us know the hotel you stayed at and any other info.

:woohoo:Howdy Warriors,

I know, long time no post. It has been cold, cold, cold here in central Illinois. I have still been able to run outside with an occasional run on the treadmill. I dred the treadmill, but on a couple of days it's just been too cold to run outside.

I completed another week of marathon training today. Ran a total of 26 miiles this week. Today I ran 11 miles outside in 15 degree weather. The sun was out and the winds were light. It was a great run!!!

Now a little about me:

Real Name: Stan
Age: 52
Loation: Bloomington, IL

Meaning of DIS name: I have always been a huge fan of Goofy, the 57 is year of birth

Family stats: Been married 33 years to a wonderful lover of all things Disney. Have 2 grown children and 1 grandaughter

Races: I have been a runner for 15+ years. My first half marathon was WDW in 2009. Ran the Kentucky Derby 1/2 in April 2009. Ran the Disneyland 1/2 in Sept. 2009 for the Coast to Coast medal. Ran the WDW 1/2 this year.

Upcoming races: Kentucky Derby 1/2 again in April. Running my first full marathon in May. Going back to Disneyland in Sept for another Coast to Coast medal.

The biggie: I have already registered for the 2011 Goofy. And, I registered for the family fun run also, so I gues I'm Dopey.

I could retire anytime I want, but got to keep working to support my running/Disney habit. hehehe...

I hope everyone's training is going well. Good Luck to all who are running the Princess 1/2 next month.

I have enjoyed being a part of W.I.S.H. I look forward to meeting you all in the future at meet ups at Disneyland and WDW.:cool1:

Hi Warriors!

Once again...I am sick. This is getting really old. One of us has been sick ever since returning from WDW. And it's something different each time! I have chosen to blame the germiness that is kindergarten. But I am still doing what I can.

Here's my info:

Real Name: Michelle
Age: 31
Location: just outside of Sacramento, CA
Family Stats: Married with 1 5 yo daughter
Meaning of DIS Name: all our initials and last name (boring, I know)
Races: Lots of local 5 and 10k's (my local running group is also part of a local racing series where we are supposed to complete 8 local races a year) DL 1/2 (twice), DL 5k (3 times), Goofy Challenge, Vegas Rock n Roll Marathon, Nike Womens Half, 2 local halfs
Upcoming Races: We are back in the race series, so there will be a bunch of those local races, Bay to Breakers, DL Half. I will try and get back in the Nike half and would also like to go back to Vegas.
Pets: Too many! Right now we each have a dog, DH has his Rott Oso Negro, I have my pit, Porter and DD has her mini schnauzer, Tinkerbell. We also have a fish tank and DD has a hamster, Woody. While not technical pets, DH has a pair of hummingbirds that he feeds. They are always at our front porch. DD also raised some polywogs that we let go in the yard. They are always around too.
Hobbies/Interests: Disney! I make cakes too. I sometimes end up with more orders than I can handle. I like to scrapbook, but just don't seem to have the time for it anymore will all this running!
First Race: A local 5k, then the DL 5k, but my first "big race" was 2008 Disneyland Half Marathon
Favorite Disney Park: The original...Disneyland!
Favorite Disney Dining Spots: I'm too much of a kid...I am too interested in rides and characters to care about eating. And when I am hungry, there is nothing better than a DL corndog!:thumbsup2
Coolest Things You Ever Did: The Goofy Challenge, riding horses and swimming to a waterfall in Mexico, swimming with dolphins in Mexico

Good Morning Warriors!

Got the Valentines Virtual 5K done Sunday, and did a "regular" 4 mile run last night (too many people come out to the Y at night LOL- but I want to get DH working out too). Today is a weight/cross training day after a fun half day in Kindergarten.

Pam - lol. I keep waiting for teh "Resolutionists" to die off (not literally of course) so that I can have my gym back. :-p

Marcia - You know you don't need to eb running to be here. I am curious as to what your break does for your legs. When I take a break fro my legs, I give the rest of me the time off too adn start from zero. Nevre again!

Jim - SO sorry about teh cold. Don't let my parents spending the next 2months in Bradenton let you knwo I said that. They are from MI. They get no sympathy asn that's still warm fro them. ;-) Natvie Floridians must want to pull their hair out though. :grouphug: Hoping the rest you're giving your foot does wonders!

Stan - lol. Ugh I forgot that htis addiciton could effect retirement age. Perhaps I need to imporve so I can get sponsors. :lmao:

Michelle - Sos orry about the sick household. With kids, you are exposed to so much more. I do hope teh cycle ends soon!!!

Did my V-day 5K (yes, changed form teh 10) The snow was like running on beach sand and my legs just oculd not take any more. On teh bright side, I did an awesome 40 min on teh bike trainer last night. I think those muscles are coming back! Most importantly, my butt muscles are gettign better. :p Did 1:15 of youga lthis am. Feels so good. I'd like ot stay adn take a nap after instead of coming to work today, though.

What's really great? I can go home , albeit a bit later than normal, and be a slug tonight as I already have my workout in! Did I mention to the newer memebrs that I am the worlds laziest marathoner? :upsidedow

carrie ~ I usually take a few months off after the goofy, because I'm lazy!:rotfl2: But a couple of years ago I went right from training for the Honolulu marathon, Goofy, to training for a 545 mile bike. I wouldn't recommend doing that! It took a toll on my body and my social life.:rotfl: So last year I volunteered for the ride, and it was harder than riding. This year, I'm just taking time off....and I think I can beat you at being "the worlds laziest marathoner"

Carrie- I don't think it hurt the track population that it was "weetiny" basketball league playoffs in the gym beneath the track- so lots (I hope) of parents were meandering the track while their "next hoosier basketball star" played their games. (Not to mention the older brothers and sisters that insisted on going the wrong way and running into people while they did the grade school flirt thing! LOL

Ugh. I would have hurt someone (or at least yelled). The indoor track has made me realize that I really need to work on my patience. ;)

Marcia - I don't know..... I am pretty darn lazy. If I didn't have Princess coming up, I might not have done anythign since marathon.

hey everyone,

really sorry i've not been on for a week and i'll try to catch up with all the action a bit later. Disneyland paris was amazing.... it was my boyfriend's first time at disney and he loved it- he was almost as sad as i was to leave! Even more amazingly than that on the sunday (valentines day) we went into the park at 8am for early entry and he told me he wanted to see the castle whilst no-one else was there. As it was freezing there were only about 20 of us that braved the cold so early so the park was deserted. Hmm thinking back I should have clicked at this point! So we went up to the balcony that overlooks fantasyland and he proposed!!!! I got engaged!!!!! It was absolutely perfect and even the background music was romantic :) Once Upon a Dream was playing as i sobbed ha ha ha.

So no running for me and i don't even care :) I've had sore cheeks from smiling all week. I'll get back to it at some point!

Sorry for the long story, i'm still excitable.

Erika - Good ot see you! how did I not know about your dd? :guilty: Sending prayers for her. So glad she is doing so well. I'll be at Princes too. SSR. OMG, you must be in teh group with Kat! I know her fom an old DVC thread and jsut re-found her on teh Princess thread. Oh, IT band. Many speak of using the stick or a foam roller for that. Have you trired that?

Thanks for asking about my daughter (Kelly, she just turned 7). She has been in renal failure since age 2. Mostly she's fine, but has flare ups and needs treatment from time to time. She has had several surgeries and is in and out of the hospital a bit. But she is SO tough. I do all of my races for the National Kidney Foundation.

Yes, Kat and I are on the same team, from a thread here on Wish. There are 8 of us who have been together for the past 2 years and have all become SO close. So to celebrate US we are running the Princess together! Getting so excited!

As for the IT Band, I went to my running coach at the beginning of the week for a sports massage and some advice. He actually said that it is my lateral quad--and easy to mistake for IT band because they run somewhat parallel. The massage released A LOT of tension in the side of my quad and I am now the proud owner of one of those foam rollers! They really do work!

See you SOON! :cool1:

Erika: Yep, ITB, I have been suffering with this as well. Had a massage yesterday and the girl worked me over. She said stretch, stretch, stretch. I have a foam roller also and a stick. So I am getting very good at doing a routine of stretching after my walks/runs when the muscle is warm. Keep at it!

Thanks, Tracy! Yes, as I just wrote above, I am doing the roller and it really does work. And I am stretching a lot when the muscle is nice and warm. Also, I am going to get taped with the new RockTape (a step up from the regular kinesio tape). It lasts for 4-ish days and you can get it wet and everything. So I am going to get taped on Monday and see how that goes. And if all goes well, I will get taped again before getting on the plane for the Princess.

Happy Friday Warriors!

It's been a rough week for me, so I have absolutely no workouts to report. I got very very bad on Tuesday night and ended up at the doctor on Wed. Diagnosed with acute bronchitis. Put on a massive dose of antibiotics, inhaler and steroids. Let's just say the meds alone have not been pleasant. I really want to get back out there but know that is the wrong thing to do. It's just hard to not be able to do anything.

Sorry to whine a bit there. Hope everyone has had a better week than that.

And CONGRATULATIONS KATE!! I am so happy for you!

carrie that's a famtastic confidence booster that you could get a 10 miler out even when you're body was exhausted! Very good sign of your commitment and determination- you'll be fab.

Michelle just read your status and hope your feeling better soon. Tell that doctor that warriors aren't allowed to be ill and you need to be able to breathe!!!!

Lily best of luck for New orleans- hope it goes really well.

Tracy sorry you're being blighted by your ITB- you've put the miles in though so you'll be great. Surely it has to ease off soon, why can't legs just work?!!?

Sarah i love reading about the workouts your dogs give you- they are perfect!

Erika massive thoughts coming your way for kelly, as Carrie said I can't believe i wasn't aware either. Such bravery is incredible- both hers and yours.

Pam you're really racking the miles up! Really pleased they're going well for you.

Jeff i have a hooded dressing gown like your daughter and i'm definitely not 7! They are the best things in the world when you need a good snuggle on the sofa! She has good taste :)

Me Thanks everyone for your congratulations- i'm just about returning to normality after another heavy day at work!
Popped to the gym at 6.30am to get my 3 miles in before work and they were fine, still no shin pain so i'm on cloud 9! (going to look at a wedding venue on sunday- oh my word i'm being swept away with all of this fun!)

Happy Tuesday Warriors!!

News Flash!! It's actually WARM here!!!!! WoooHooo !!!! Bad News - It's supposed to be freezing again in 2 days. Ugh.

I ran for the first time (literally) since the Mickey on Sunday. It was the Nat'l Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer just north of me in Jacksonville. I ran the 1/2. Maybe not the smartest move for my first time out in 6 weeks, but no one ever accused me of having a great amount of common sense.

All in all, not a bad day. My PF did not bother me at all (Yaaaaaay!!!). But, pretty much every other square inch of my legs from the knees down did, especially the soles of my feet. I bought these really fancy kevlar insoles that I hoped would help my feet feel better from the pounding. Yeah. Not so much.

I was able to stick with a run 7/walk 1 strategy without much difficulty, which was nice. Not much cramping, which was also nice.

Now I just have to start easing back into the groove without pushing too hard, too fast. Going to do the ESPN 5K this weekend, but that's not a major concern. No long races for at least 2 months for me (per my Commanding Officer, AKA the DW).

Hope all are well. You guys all rock!!

PS - Congrats to Kate!!

Pam: Seems like you are coming right along with your miles!!:thumbsup2

Carrie: yep, I am stretching my hammies, ITB, PF, and shins after every training run now. UGH, I know someone is just playing games with me. Like ok, her shin is feeling better so lets mess with her ITB. :confused3

Kate: "blighted" i LOVE that word!!:woohoo: I will use it every time I talk about my ITB from now on!! Thanks.

Jim: Glad your PF is calming down. I use custom orthotics for sports that my Podiatrist ordered. It's hard to find good insoles that your feet will appreciate. Good luck at the ESPN 5K.

AFM: I know I have been keeping away a bit. Just feeling a bit low about my ITB. Also LTO has just been cutting in. I am on Facebook and if you are not my friend yet and would like to be, please request me.
I did my 12 miler for Princess not this past weekend but the weekend before. I do a 2 week taper. That didn't feel so good and I limped the last 2 miles. This is just not what I am used to, so it is just a bit disheartening. Don't get me wrong, I did the miles so that I am happy about, just not used to dealing with "injuries" while training. I did 7 on Sunday and still a bit of ITB the last mile or so.
Tonight I did 4 miles - felt pretty good, not real bad pain and above all that I did negative splits. I wasn't even planning that.

Stan, good luck with the distance.

Tracy, stepping back for a bit is not a bad thing. You do what you can.

Jim, glad to hear that your half went well. I'm impressed as usual with what you accomplish. Glad the usual aches are not being horrific. Ease back in. Yes, that's a good idea.

I have slacked big time these last few weeks due to LTO stuff. NOLA will be the start of a spring season of many half marathons. I'm hoping the schedule will help me remain focused in training. I've added another half event the following weekend in Annapolis and plan to try to do a bit of a faster one there than NOLA. Not sure how this will play since ITB seems to be trying to creep in here an there these days.

I'll try to post some pics on FaceBook. For those that have not friended me yet, I'd be happy to FB friend ya.

Hi Warriors,

Just finished our Sunday walk. Did 6.54 miles at a 18 m pace. This is the most I have walked and it is also the fastest. I hope not to have any problems for the 1/2 marathon walk. We are still going to use March as building me up before we really start working on the speed. My knee does feel it today.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Hi Warriors!

Yesterday was the first Joints in Motion group training run; we're running the Rock n Roll Seattle marathon with the Arthritis Foundation again this year, and are excited to take part in the group training runs again. We only got in 3 miles yesterday, though, as there was just so much socializing going on - it took us 3 hours to get those 3 miles in! :rotfl2: Hopefully next week will be better for actually getting out on the trail before everyone has to go home!

We also went to see some houses this afternoon and put in an offer on a small house. It passes one of my most important criteria - from our front yard, I can see the foot bridge across the Green River that leads to the Green River Trail - a nice long (20+ miles) trail that winds along the riverside. :goodvibes Gotta look out for my running habit first!

Hi Warriors! Leaving NOLA on the way to visit cousins in MS. Half Marathon event was quite fun with WISH Team members present. Strolled at the back of the pack and had a total blast! Did the event in almost my slowest time ever 3:40 something. I have not checked official results yet.

My leg still having issues so that's part of the reason for hanging back. The biggest part of haning back was so we could all enjoy the fun together this time. It was a well run event I think. We also had a great time hanging out with WISh Team friends for the weekend. Nothing but the best of all things.

Lily that sounds like an awesome event! SO pleased you had a blast

Sarah How exciting that you've found a house and what a criteria! That trail sounds seems perfect. eek. :cool1:

Kathy sorry i blatently added an e in your name! Massive congratulations for your fastest walk.

Stan you loved your run so much you wanted to share it twice :) Quite right too.

me did 3miles of hills on TM yesterday, felt sluggish but do-able. Found out today all my sniffles and coughs are tonsilitis so with antibiotics hopefully i'll be back bouncing soon. Oh and we've been looking at wedding venues!!!!!!! This is sooo exciting :)

ESPN 5k on Saturday. Finished without too much foot pain.

Time to start training for real again. Slowly.

My next event MAY be the The Ohio River Road Runners Club 1/2 Marathon in Xenia, OH on April 11.

OF course, with the way the weather has been this year, they may be under 2' of snow (Which could STILL be warmer than Disney was this year. Go figure.)
