Can't answer about the crowds, as I'm usually there mid-September. However, worst-case scenario and there's a hurricane while you're there, Disney will close the parks (usually only one day) and ask guests to stay in their resort rooms during the worst of it. As for the rain, if you handled last May ok, you'll be fine!! (I was living in FL at the time...WOW did it rain last May!!). As a friend of mine is fond of saying, Rain washes the crowds away!

Do they usually close the parks due to hurricanes? We are driving so we are pretty flexible, wonder if we could be able to stay an extra day? LoL

What a fabulous idea. You will have a great trip just being able to do what you want, when ever you want.

Yes they have closed the parks if the hurricane is over Orlando, but this is usually only for one day. We were not so lucky for TS Faye in '08. Although they didn't close the parks (she wasn't that severe), it did rain steadily for our entire trip. On the plus side that kept the crowds low & the weather was not as hot.

I received an awesome PIN so we're going August 22-28. We're able to spring for a one-bedroom villa at Beach Club!!!! I've heard SAB is awesome so I'm super excited!
It'll be me, DH, and our 3 kids (ages 6, 4, and 2 by the time we travel). I guess we're celebrating the fact that DS is finally walking (at age 20 months - thank you Early Intervention and an awesome PT!) so I won't have to carry a heavy baby all over Disney this time! I'm a petite 5'2" and carried all 25 lbs of him all over Disney twice last year!!! It's good exercise but in the August heat, I'm going to appreciate him being able to use his own 2 feet... (Yes, he has a stroller but can't take it in lines so into the baby carrier he went.)
I can't wait!

 I feel your pain.
I finally decided this year to not do the dining plan and not over burden myself with lots of ADRs.
I have Rose & Crown for our second night, Mama Melrose for the Fantasmic! package that Thursday, Le Chef de France for lunch on Friday and Whispering Canyon Cafe for a lunch the next week. Only 4 TS ADRs for 14 days.
I plan on lots of counter service at Epcot for dinners. Park Hoppers a must. :thumbsup2

You're good! We are doing the dining plan because we like sitting down for a "real" meal. We'd probably eat at least one sit-down meal per day with or without the dining plan.
I need to figure out which nights we're going to do which meal but here are a few that I'm considering: Norway (princess dinner), The Garden Grill, Cape May Cafe (+/-), Teppan Edo. My DH and I will probably eat at Bluezoo one night and get a babysitter. That's not on the dining plan so we can have at least one sit-down breakfast or lunch. Maybe Liberty Tree Tavern? I still need to pick a few more places!
Suggestions welcome!!!

Thanks. :)
We did the whole sit down every night for the first two trips. My family got pretty upset with me for the whole "scheduled" thing. :confused3 Gosh, it's not like I had it planned down to the minute. Hour maybe, but not minute. :rotfl2:
So we compromised this trip. They have to do rope drop every morning and stick to my plan until lunch. After the resort break - they get to pick. And they are the ones who picked those ADRs.
I'm hoping for a much more relaxed trip this time around.

Picking apart your ADRs. :teeth:
Norway - very good for Princesses
Garden Grill - my boys really liked it, but a lot of folks don't. I thought food fine, not great, but totally edible.
Cape May Cafe - good for breakfast characters, not so great for dinner.
Teppan Edo - Heard lots of good things and lots of just okay things. You will have to tell me what you think. :thumbsup2
Liberty Tree Tavern - doesn't have characters anymore. Food is served family style and is hit or miss. Sometimes it is good and others it is dried out.
Are you looking for character interaction? Chef Mickey's is good for that and the food is not bad for a buffet. 1900 Park Fare dinner with the Step Sisters is hilarious. And I'm pretty partial to the Strawberry Soup. Ohana has a good breakfast with Lilo and Stitch.
We don't do much breakfast because of the rope drop thing. The only disappointing meals we had were Coral Reef - the steak was gross for me, but the fish was great for everyone else and Cape May Cafe, I must have gotten an off night. None of us liked what we picked from the buffet.
YMMV

We've done 1900 Park Fare and Norway. I really enjoyed both. Prince Charming was so good with my kids! I thought we'd have to lock my daughter up until her wedding. :rotfl2: I asked my daughter which one she liked better and she wanted Norway. She's the only girl so she gets to pick!
We're staying at BCV so we could do Cape May for breakfast. I don't love breakfasts. My husband and kids don't eat any pork products so they really miss out on all of that yummy breakfast meat. And we have a kitchen so it's easy to cook some eggs for everyone.
I've read mixed reviews of both Garden Grill and Teppan Edo, too. I want to try so new things so I figured we'd give it a whirl.
Is Liberty Tree Tavern family style for lunch? We were there last May and ordered off a menu (for lunch). The food was surprisingly good but things change so quickly!
I didn't love Chef Mickey's but I know it's a staple with the preschool crowd (which includes us!).
How is that microbrewery on the Boardwalk (Big River Grille or something?)? Should we add Le Cellier to our list?

Ok all you people talking about your ADRs and where you might want to eat, is making me want the regular Dining Plan! But I'm going solo and a) didn't think I'd want to do a sit-down meal by myself, and b) didn't want to be tied to a schedule this time around.
But I miss the whole ADR and planning thing!!

It was a toss up between Le Chef de France and Le Cellier for my eldest. But we have decent steakhouses near here and he really wants to try escargo. I am not ever going to try making that at home. :lmao:

I don't see a really bad one there. :thumbsup2
The Coral Reef was pretty icky, but if you stay away from the steak, it should be okay. The kid's Mahi Mahi was excellent and their dessert was pretty cool. The atmosphere is like nothing else, so it was worth it for that. :)
I loved the apps at the Sci-Fi and my kids wanted to sit through the movie shorts again. :rotfl2:
We lucked out with Prime Time. Our waiter was kinda of a dud in the beginning, but then he really got in to it. Brought my DH's green beans back with whipped cream for his dessert. :rotfl2: My DH is super shy in public, but even he was having fun with the elbows on the table. My boys love that memory. I liked the meatloaf the best. It is down home cooking. Comfort food.
We have a 7:15 at Rose & Crown, also hoping for the Illuminations show. We did that our first trip and lucked out with outside seating. I couldn't get an ADR for our second trip. I'm so happy I got one this time.
We picked Mama Melrose for the Fantasmic! package also. Nothing against Hollywood & Vine, but I didn't want to do a buffet this time around. I figure, how bad can Mama mess up Italian food? :confused3 Can it be worse than Olive Garden? :rotfl2: OG is okay, but it's not family Italian cooking.
Have super time. Would love to hear about the HDDR if you go. :)

We ate at Le Chef de France last year. Our former au pair was working there for a year and got us the best table in the house! It was a nice experience but I want to try something new. We live in the suburbs of NYC so we have fabulous dining at home. And the Disney prices don't scare us! :rotfl2:

I agree on Mama Melrose, just didn't want to do the buffet this time as much. My last trip was ALL buffets and it got old fast! Thanks! I have learned a lot in the past two trips with my two little boys. Namely - EAT CLOSE TO WHERE YOU ARE.... Our first trip I had us hopping all around the world to get to all these different locations... when really all we wanted to do was to walk out of our room and eat dinner... or eat in the park ... etc etc... Plus we scheduled TWO date nights - with one of them having the kids be at the Neverland club allows us for some alone time in the room before dinner  .... that is CRITICAL on a vaca!

Advice please: I need to start planning my ADRs. We usually fly JetBlue to Disney but the prices for August are still very high. And there is a huge difference in price depending on the time of day that we fly. I'm not sure what to do about dinner the 1st night. Our preferred flight time would have us arriving at 2:30pm but currently costs $194 one-way. The early morning flight has us arriving at 9:30am and costs $159 one-way. The afternoon flights are only $124 but the earlier of the 2 has us landing at 6:30pm. We're a family of 5 so the difference between preferred and cheapest flight would be $350!
My kids are definitely early bed-time kids. The youngest is usually in bed by 7:30pm and really falls apart by 8-8:30pm. The older 2 are usually in bed by 8pm and start to fall apart by 9pm.
Question: Should I make the 1st night reservation at Cape May because we're staying at BCV and I won't be sad if we miss eating there? But if we arrive earlier, I'd rather eat somewhere at Epcot....
Thanks,
Amanda

Id do the early morning one myself. I figure I want to be able to do things on arrival day and make the most of all my time at WDW. If you don't land until 6:30 you won't be to the resort until at least 7:30 so I'd just do cs since your kids would be beat.
Are you using a TA? She/he could be tracking flight prices for you.

We've done the early morning flight in the past but we hate waking up at 4am! The kids are SO exhausted by the end of the day. I don't mind paying a little extra for the flight I want (especially since we have $200 worth of travel vouchers on Jet Blue) but the prices right now are too high. Maybe I should just make a dinner reservation somewhere in Epcot but not one of my 1st choice places...

Here's my current thoughts on ADRs. I'd love advice, critique, etc.!
Sunday: Travel day. We don't know what times our flights will be. JetBlue's prices are very high right now and we're waiting to see which flight will be a decent deal. We may land as early as 9:30am or as late as 6pm. I'm going to hold off on an ADR. We'll either eat at Big River Grille (doesn't take reservations) or have a counter serve meal.
Monday: Dinner at Teppan Edo
Tuesday: Still deciding. Either Norway Princess dinner or maybe Fantasmics dinner? Fantasmics is late for my kids but might be fun.
Wednesday: Hoping to get Albatross Cruise for kids in am. Sleep in a bit as Cruise starts at 9:30am. Dinner at Le Celier.
Thursday: Breakfast at Cape May Cafe. Grown-up only :dinner at Bluezoo.
Friday: Dinner at Garden Grill
Saturday: Likely evening flight.
We probably have one more TS meal, especially if we don't eat at Big River Grille (or choose to not use dining plan to eat there). Thoughts? Maybe move the Princess dinner to a lunch or breakfast and do Fantasmics?

If you want to see Fantasmic!, then the dinner plan is probably the best way to go with the little ones you have. Waiting in line for over an hour would be really hard. ;) I can't do it. :lmao: I would imagine it would tougher on little ones. You will be eating earlier than normal dinner time, just an FYI.

My dinner ADR is 3:50 pm. That is like a late lunch to me.
Fantasmic! does have some scary parts - like the serpent - but there are some pretty cool parts too like when they show movies on water screens. That as neat effect.
We did it the first year, skipped it the second and are doing it this year because DH has some new camera gear. :lmao:
My 8 year old said that your children may think it is too scary.
I think it will be fine if you don't see this year and wait until they are older.

Fantasmic! does have some scary parts - like the serpent - but there are some pretty cool parts too like when they show movies on water screens. That as neat effect.
We did it the first year, skipped it the second and are doing it this year because DH has some new camera gear. :lmao:
My 8 year old said that your children may think it is too scary.
I think it will be fine if you don't see this year and wait until they are older.
Please tell your 8 year old thank you for the advice! I'll talk to the kids and my DH and see what they think. We're definitely planning more Disney trips in the future so we don't have to do it this time!

First time at Pop Century. There will be four of us. Myself, DH (who's a big guy), DS (9) and DS (7). How cramped will we feel in the beds? Probably will do one kid with me and one with DH. I know the beds are only doubles. Our last trip was at the POR and we had a trundle which gave us more bed space. Do most people just cram in or has anyone ever gotten 2 rooms? Don't know if I would want to spend the extra money. I'm so looking forward to checking out the Pop. Looks great for the kids. Very excited...:cool1:

We went to DisneyLand with a 16 month old and 3.5 year old (we were in Anaheim for a work conference and brought the kids along). We then did our 1st DisneyWorld trip with a not quite 2 year old and not quite 4 year old (I was 20 weeks pregnant). We've been twice since the baby was born - ages 1, 3, 5 and then 18 months, 3.5, and 5.5. The kids have always done well on the trips!!! When we go in August, the kids will be 2, 4, 6.
We always pack a bag of drinks and snacks (in addition to a diaper bag). Lots of water bottles, boxes of apple juice, sliced apples, raisins, etc. My kids are early risers so we get to the parks early, eat lunch at the park, and then head back to the hotel. The kids swim and have "quiet time" (my older 2 won't nap but we bring a portable DVD player and watch a Disney movie). We have an early-ish dinner and try to get them to bed around their usual bedtime (8-8:30pm). If the kids are getting crabby, we switch gears and do something else. The kids love the pool-time as much as the park time. The pools have free life jackets that you can borrow which is great for the kids. They were able to be pretty independent in the pool (we stayed an arms length away, of course).
The best advice is to plan what you can plan and then be flexible! Make ADRs but don't go too crazy with them. We've learned to appreciate things at Disney that we never would have noticed. I'll never forget the glow my daughter had when we had dinner with "5 princesses!" She was smiling for weeks afterwards! The kids notice the flowers and the topiaries and the magic little touches that are Disney. Enjoy!!!

DS13 (at time of trip) and myself are going for 10 days!!! We are staying at All-Star Movies, hopefully, in the Toy Story section. We are hoping for free dining to be announced and that the MNSSHP does start on August 30th as should on Touring Plans. We went last year from August 9 to August 16, and decided we need more time at WDW! Now the planning begins.... :)

We usually go the last week of August thru Labor Day but I couldn't get that time off from work so August 21-30 it is.
I booked the Coronado Springs with the 30% off PIN but am eagerly awaiting the free dining announcement and will compare the cost. We usually stay at the All Stars but with 2 teenage boys that are over 6 feet tall, the double sized beds at the values aren't working very well these days .

8/22- 1st AM Appt at BBB in MK, then 11am lunch at CRT
8/23- Dinner @ Boma 6pm
8/24- Early breakfast @ Tusker House (8am?)
8/25- Dinner @ WCC 6pm
8/26- Dinner MM *Fantasmic*
8/27-Breakfast 1900 PF 9am
Dinner Sci-Fi 7pm
8/28- Dinner LeCellier 6pm

Because I am now going in MAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I decided to go for the Flower & Garden Festival at Epcot. I've been for Free Dining my last 3 trips, but haven't seen F&G in 14 years. I decided that was a perfect thing to do on my solo since I won't have my boys along and worried that they're getting bored (because I really like to "stop and smell the roses!").
So I guess now I need to go find the Official May 2010 Countdown thread!:rotfl:

My ADRs this morning were a bit of a fiasco. My fault for getting my dates confused and not having a great back-up plan. Somehow I convinced myself that Fantasmic! was on Wednesday instead of Tuesday which messed up some stuff. I got myself on the website at 6am and spent 30min doing ADRs. When I tried to book Mama Melrose (for Wed because I have no brain), it didn't say anything about the Fantasmic! package. And when I tried to book Le Cellier, the only option was 8:30pm (past bedtime for my kids so not an option). I had to leave for work at 6:30am anyway. At 7am I called and spoke to a person. He straightened out my mistakes. Mama Melrose wasn't available for Tuesday so we're doing Hollywood & Vine instead (not a terrible choice but we've done the Play and Dine there 3 times already and I was hoping for a break from the place - at least no characters this time!). He looked for something for Le Cellier but it wasn't happening. I had to make a snap decision so I chose Rose and Crown instead but now I'm doubting myself on that one. The CM could not have been nicer or more patient with me! He also helped me book the Albatross Cruise for the big kids which I'm excited about.
Without further ado, here are my current ADRs (and subject to change!):
Sunday: Arrival day. Possible dinner at Big River Grille
Monday: 6pm Teppan Edo
Tuesday: 4:35pm Hollywood & Vine Fantasmic! dinner package
Wednesday: 9:30am Albatross Cruise for older 2 kids;
6pm Rose and Crown
Thursday: 8am Cape May Cafe
7pm Bluezoo (adults only)
Friday: 8:30am Akershus Princess breakfast
6pm The Garden Grill
I'm thinking about switching Rose and Crown for either Chefs de France or Morroco or something else that someone wants to recommend!!!

One advantage of online is that you can do your ADRs earlier in the morning. The phone lines don't open until 7am. For most restaurants it really won't matter at all but if you want something that is super popular (Le Cellier - for example), it may make a difference.

I had a quick question since I have never done this before. Hopefully someone can help me out.
We have a room only booked at CBR August 14-15 using the % discount. We are awaiting free dining for the 15-21.
I know you have to check out and check back in. But can I get up early, leave DH and DS in the room, check out, and check back in hopefully with the same room? Or do I need to have everyone present to check out, check back in? I really hate to move everything, if they could keep us in the same room.
Thanks

Just one person can go to the front desk and re-checkin. My DH and I did that in Sept and we kept the same room and the whole was very simple :)

I'm super excited about the dining plan, I think it's great to pay ahead of time, one less headache for use to deal with. However, I made the mistake of using at TA this time, on future trips I don't think I will do this... Not that my TA is bad she's been great, but she's on vacation until the beginning of next month, and we've crossed the 180 mark for dining. She said she was going to take care of it, but my anal retentive mind is going wild waiting to find out what adr's I got and for when, as I was flexible on dates and times... Plus I really wanted to plan my days around my adr's a little bit, figured it would make more sense than hopping back and forth all over the place. I guess it's harder than it sounds to give someone else control when in general you are a vacation nazi...Not that I plan every minute detail, having taken 3 kids on vacation by myself for years you learn you can't do it, but I love to have a general idea of what we are doing on what day ahead of time as well as a rough outline of what the day will look like....

Well I talked my husband into staying an extra two night! woot woot. I explained to him that there are so many good places to eat and so much to see and do at the parks that two more nights would really help us out! We are still waiting for FD to hopefully come out while we are there, or a pin for FD, heck any pin/discount at all would help since we are rack rate for room, no discounts anywhere as it is. Anyway we are changed to Aug28 thru Sept 6~ POR with DxDDP

The CM I booked our ressie with (who was WONDERFUL) told me to call in to make my ADR's so that they can tell me where the EMH are that day....do the EMH help you decide where to go for your ADR's?
it depends when you are going, how old the kids in your group are and whether or not you all are early risers or night owls...

Is the snow ever going to stop in PA? Our kids are out of school again! I'm glad I booked this trip is August because we have 8 days to make up and they may be in school until July if this weather doesn't get any better!
Here in NY, we managed to miss those first two big storms a couple of weeks ago, but we're making up for it now. It looks like we'll get 2 feet plus out of this storm, and there was already several inches of snow on the ground from the last storm. We haven't had school since Tuesday, which was an early dismissal, and we now owe two days. We'll make them up during our spring break, so I feel sorry for all the folks that planned trips for spring break week.

I haven't heard anything here about make-up days....yet. We had early dismissal yesterday and no school today. Luckily, we're not going away for spring break so it won't affect us anyway.
August seems SO far away right now!

Tell me about it! I can't believe we are missing school again! Right now our schools were supposed to be done on the 4th of June/graduation. Then the first snow pushed us till June 7th, second snow took us till June 11th, now we are at the 12th....I hate the thought of more snow!

We will be in until June 17th if they don't make any up during the spring schedule! I think our district applied for a reprieve from the state for some of the days due to the state of emergency. I work for a local municipality and this is really hurting us!

I think our district applied for a 2 day reprieve, so that would help us a little bit if we get it. Still the June 12th date is using our spring break days as makeups. We went all day yesterday but then no school today, thank goodness its Friday and maybe we can be cleaned up and ready for school by monday...maybe..sigh.

Don't wait too long on 50's Prime time. It books fast too. We enjoy dining there and love Dad's brownie sundae for dessert! Last year we had an awesome server who really teased my son about his elbows on the tables. He loves it there. The only other place that we've dined on your list is Le Cellier. My son has a super sever fish allergy so we avoid the fish restaurants. We also did a late lunch at Le Cellier on our first day last year and it was fine for us. It seemed more like dinner and we were not even hungry at night for a snack.

Although I'm going to have to do the math and see which is better since I finally got a room PIN code, which made our room super cheap.

We'll be there Aug. 1-8 for our 8th anniversary. Staying at AKL. I'm so excited.
Just planned our ADRs this week! :)
I'm just hoping that nothing prevents us from going...money, money, money.
Hi! I just noticed we'll be at AKL the same week!
We're going July 30-August 7!
Maybe we'll see you there! :)

This will be our second vistit. Our first was last summer and we loved it! So this year we are going August 13th thru 18th and staying at the Contemporary and we also got the deluxe dining plan!!
I am so excited, I don't know how I am going to wait for 5 months!!

We'll be back for free dining - yay!

I'm thinking of extending the trip to the 4th because I am hoping that the MNSSHP will start on 9/3. For the past 2 summers we've gone down for a trip the last week of August going into September, and both times we ended up leaving only a day or two before they started the MNSSHP. The decorations look so great, and I really want to stay for it this time!
Edited to add: We did decide to stay until the 4th! Yay! I called last night, and I'm so happy!

We'll be there from August 14 - 21. We won't be staying at a resort but will be off site and staying at Windor Hills. Huge family vacation (14 of us). My mom (1st time going) said that she's more excited than the kids...and so am I!

Does anyone have any news on when MNNSHP is starting?
I can't wait to hear if they release free dining :cool1:

MNSSHP is supposed to start on the first Friday in Sept which is the 3rd.
Since last year they offered free dining with Bounceback it is expected they will offer free dining to everyone. The question will be if values only get the quick service plan or not.

We (me, DH, DS 12 & DS 10) will be at POP from August 21 - 28. What will I be celebrating - hoping to be cancer free by then (currently in the middle of chemo treatments :sad1:).
Just keep thinking about your great vacation plans--I have had chemo and
it's not fun, but you do come out on the other side!:wizard:

I doubt it. They don't usually combine discounts. Only one. We have free dining that we booked back in August last summer.

Hi how is everyone? Getting some planning done? We decided to just go with the pin I was sent for room only and not wait for FD, the wait was killing me, haha. So we changed our resort from POR to BC CL, and I relly excited to stay there!

I just booked for the first week of August. My husband and I are taking our three daughters - we're staying @ the Poly!
I can't wait b/c we haven't been since the older two girls were one and two - so it's like they haven't even been!
I'll be making ADRs over the next week, and I can't wait to read about everyone else's plans!
Have fun :)
