We are thinking of staying in the campground in late August when they generally have free dining offered. Does this apply to people that are tenting it? Thanks!

No.

Negative. Since you can put 10 people on a campsite (generally) Disney would lose money on it.

When offered it usually applies to the Fort Wilderness cabins, just not campsites.

If you're tent camping at WFC, you can get the dining plan. As long as you have bought a package and get at least a one day ticket you can add the Disney Dining plan. The Campgrounds are like any other resort. Sure you can fit ten people on some of the sites, but hey you're roughing it which is why it is cheaper than the values. If you're tent camping you share restroom and shower facilities with a whole lot of other people. You book Fort Wilderness just like any other resort and can add all the options too.

The OP is asking about Free Dining as part of a special deal not just paying for as part of a package.

Yep. You can get the dining plan at a campsite. But campsites have been historically excluded from the free dining promotion.

1) Quick answer - "No".
2) The Free Dining Plan is charged to the resort.
3) It is not charged to the food department.
4) So, the resort loses revenue whenever such an offer is available.
5) Thus, with the small campsite revenue, it is not feasible.
6) Now, if you pay $200 a day for the campsite .............

In recent years WDW has offered Free Dining during slower times of year to get "heads in beds" as they say. You generally have to book a package (rack rate room, plus at least a 1 day park tix per person) to get it. Unfortunately while you can take advantage of the Free Dining promo if you book a FW cabin, the camp sites are typically excluded.

OK...so we have to buy at least one ticket to purchase a dining plan? I want the dining plan, but no park tickets (don't ask-long story).

BradyBz12

Yes, you usually have to buy at least a one day park tix per person for free dining (at least that's what the promo has been lately). But as long as you don't use it it doesn't expire and you can save it to use/upgrade later if you like.

we have reservations for nov 2010 in the campground..full hookup site. i asked my ta about dining..she said that yes you can get free dining when it is offered as long as you have a pkg that includes tickets. but you must have a multiday ticket. you can no longer just buy a 1 day ticket and get the dining plan for your whole stay. she has had clients get the free dining in the campground at a site not just the cabins.

That certainly would be great,,but I have a feeling your TA does not have it correct,:confused3,

BUT if they do then :woohoo:

Sorry, but your TA doesn't know what she's talking about. You'll find that most DISers know more about WDW travel planning than most TA's.

You can't get FREE dining with a campsite, its NEVER been available at a campsite.

AND

You only need a one day park ticket (per person) to get the free dining.

everytime we have asked about the free dining for campsites we were told it did not apply to the sites only for the cabins, but hey then your not saving any money

PPs are correct - FREE dining has never been offered with a campsite package through Disney. If it were me, I would call back and confirm with a supervisor that they actually have done this before. Unless they're offering some kind of deal themselves, I'd bet the farm that this information is incorrect.

Sounds to me like the TA you spoke with is confusing a few different bits of info - for example, FREE dining packages (for everyone else besides campsites) only requires the purchase of a 1 day ticket as part of the package. That info is easily confirmed here on the DIS by people that did it as recently as December, and by some that have already received PIN codes for free dining this year.

You need to definitely re-check this information out. It would totally stink to arrive at WDW and find out you had to fork out several hundreds of dollars on food you thought was included in your package. Not trying to badger you or say we think you are lying, but this question is posted on here often and FD has never been offered for the camp sites. A lot of the members here know way more about FW than any WDW CM (and sorry, but certainly any TA) would know.

If for some reason we're all wrong, by all means, please let us know. I suspect the Fort will be at full capacity in August and September if you're TA proves to be correct.;)

Definately NEVER can you get free dining with regular camp sites. I leave my camper home every Disney trip because of this. As they always say get it in writting from your TA and make them gurantee it so they have to reimburse you for their mistake.

We compared the cost of staying at the French Quarter with Free Dining vs staying at the Ft Wilderness campground, with full hook-ups, and "paying" for the dining plan. Believe it or not, by the time you pay for dining plan for just two people, there is not much of a savings staying at the campground. We'll continue to stay at the French Quarter.

The only advantage of staying in your RV is that you're in your own bed and know how clean your linens are. ;)
