They've made the movie "Hairspray" into a musical. It's still in the "preview" phase, and we saw it Thursday night at the Neil Simon theatre.
We laughed non-stop. Harvey Fierstein plays the mother and he was hysterical.
It premieres in mid-August. If you're smart, order tickets now because it's going to be a HUGE hit!!!
BTW, John Waters, who wrote and directed the movie, was in a different section of the orchestra. He was very gracious and he signed my playbill!!:D :D :D :D
What a great evening!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

Glad to hear you liked it and had a good time watching it. I heard about this being a Broadway production a while ago! That sounds like such a good one to go see! Hopefully some day I'll be able to see it on stage :)

How neat, Regina. I don't think I'm going to be in NYC ever dh doesn't want to go, but I'd love to see this play :)

Yep, my dad has some friends who have seen it in previews, and he predicts it's going to be a big hit as well. :)

Wow, I would love to see this play! I'm a huge John Waters fan, he is from my hometown of Baltimore and I've had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times. Such a creative talent.
Glad you enjoyed yourself, Reg!

trying to get tickets now!
looks like we'lll have a good season this year -- Flower Drum Song, Man of LaMancha, Little Shop of Horrors and Gypsy are being revived, and I've heard that Dance of the Vampire Slayers will be terrific too.
