View Full Version : Anyone else's guide randomly call them?

So, kind of weird, our guide called us out of the blue tonight to see how we were liking DVC...Just to make sure everything was going well and that we were happy with it so far.

We haven't spoken with her in over two years since we bought in. Not that we minded getting the call. It was very nice of her. (And we're totally okay with not having gotten any calls earlier - we're kind of low maintenance.)

But when she called we were expecting her to mention something about sales for the current promo or something, but no. :confused3

Nice, but weird. Was wondering if anyone else had gotten a random call like that.

My rep has NEVER called me once. And that's ok. I have received offers and updates in the mail with her name and number stamped on it.

Ours called us about a week ago, randomly, just to say hi, at around 7pm. Didn't mind it, we like the guy, but it was kind of odd!

Ours has called a couple of times since we bought to ask if we were enjoying our DVC and to let him know if he could do anything for us.

He has also left "Welcome home" messages when we have checked into our resort, which I thought was very nice and personable! He also said to stop by and introduce ourselves anytime as we purchased over the phone and never have met him in person. I must say he has been very professional and personable without being pushy!:thumbsup2 Thanks Gib!

On our January trip our guide sent us an email a couple days before with the DVC discounts and happenings in the parks. Our guide also left us a welcome home msg on our resort phone. We thought it was very nice.

That is sooooo funny! We bought onboard the Magic back in 08 and have NEVER heard from our guide again. Which is fine by me. We do get the mail with the promotions and the cards with his name & number. If it wasnt for those cards I wouldnt even know who my guide was. I can imagine what I would ever need my guide for ? Except of course to make another purchase which I have no plan to do for a while.

We've never got a random call, but I would have to say it would be nice. I really don't expect any b/c I know how busy they must be and how many members each guide must have.

Calls randomly? In the past three years I've called my guide 3-4 times for information about promotions. Each time the return calls tooks a few days and in two cases over a week :)

My guide called me after I sent an email inquiring about the latest prices but never on her own. She also told me she was not allowed to send me the prices via email. Have any of you had the same response? I thought it was a bit odd.

Nope, never heard of that one and also never gotten a random "How do you like your DVC" type of call. I think the last time we heard from our guide was about the extension at OKW a few years ago. Since we joined in 2002, that was only about the second call we've ever gotten from him, and I think the first call was a return call when we'd called him first.

Our guide called us this week. It is the first time he has called us at home since we purchased 3 years ago. He has always calls us when we are on property.

They generally will not respond by email. I would send all my questions to Jim by email, and then he'd call with the responses. He won't put anything in writing. :)

Nope, my guide never calls which is a good thing because if she did I'd be scheduling an add-on :rolleyes1

Our guide did the same thing during our last trip to BWV. Thought that was nice of her. :)

We bought in 2006 and have never heard a peep out of our guide not even when we are on property. I guess that is OK but it would be nice to hear something when we are there since we never even met her.:confused3

I almost posted this same thread on Friday. My guide called me the other day out of the blue. Haven't heard from my guide since the close. I thought it awful strange. I understand why, slow economy, new resorts, etc...but it is wierd when you don't get a call for any of the other promos.

Same for me. We are low maintenance and kind of like it that way!

No calls at home, but have had messages left on the phone in our room when on property. Usually just well wishes and saying she hopes we have a nice trip.

Yes and it usually ends with her asking me if we would like to add-on.

the only contact we have ever had with our guide was when he learned that we had purchased an add on thru TTS and he called to lay a guilt trip on us for not giving him a chance to sell us the add on. we purchased the points cheaper than our original introductory price had been so it really wasn't an issue, DVC could not have matched the price anyway.

Our guide has called us with a "Welcome Home" message on a few of our past trips, however, not recently. We are also "low maintenance" as another poster said. I'm sort of glad she doesn't call us because I don't need the extra encouragement to add on. We have also stopped in once or twice at the Preview Center over the past 8 years just to touch base and say Hi. I really appreciate the low key approach and I am glad she's not the pushy type I have heard some are. We know where she is if we choose to add on and she knows that and from what I hear.......I think she's very successful because of that.

the only time our guide has called is when we get a new one, because the old guide left Disney. We are on our forth one since 2006. Im surprised they don't call more, the easiest way I get orders in my business is from existing customers instead of looking for new ones. I warned DW i couldn't be responsable for my actions if our guide calls us while we were at WDW on vacation in 08, we just toured the new BLT sample rooms at SSR and I really wanted to buy in, but our guide didn't call and I soon got over it.:worship:

Someone mentioned going by to see their guide. Are their offices on the grounds somewhere?

OMG, I think that's really tacky!I'm so glad our guide isn't like that, especially since we sold the points he sold us, then turned around and bought OKW resale. Fortunately, when he called a few years ago, regarding extending our OKW contract he never said "Hey, I didn't sell you OKW!"

The offices and showrooms are over at SSR, around the corner from the main building. I wouldn't just show up without making an appointment to see my guide as she doesn't work M-F, but instead has a rotating schedule with the other guides.

We stop and see our guide on occasion. Just stop by the welcome center front desk and ask if your sales person is around. Gib has been great to us and we usually get some ice cream from him and a little bit of "inside information". we were staying at SSR when the BLT were officially announced so he showed us the model rooms (first time he had shown them) and gave us some point charts.

There are no more models of BLT or AKV at SSR. They are at their respective resort. My guess is that they are converting the model space for the Hawaii rooms.

I have a great guide. She calls me during every trip to WDW (6 trips a year). She generally welcomes me home and leaves me a message letting her know if I need anything. She says that the guides get a print out each month telling them who are visiting and she makes it a point to check for her folks.

Ooh that's probably why our guide hasn't called us when we stay there. Because I make the reservations, and I'm only the Associate. Perhaps if I made it in hubby's name he'd call then!

But as it is, it's just the random nighttime call. :)

I doubt we will ever hear from ours. :lmao: Everytime we would go down to WDW we would check out DVC.:cool1: Really couldn't remember who he was I was in sticker shock. :rotfl: Then we finally took the plunge and come to find out he was the same guide ever time we looked into it. No wonder he didn't like us .

Mine hasnt called and we didnt get a "welcome home" message when we went in Dec. Good thing, im really wanting to add on right now and go again before May. My family thinks im nuts. Aw well, ill get the credit card paid off by May and may add on while im there if they have a good incentive.

While on the phone with my guide a couple weeks ago he told me that he was going to be staying past 6 that evening because guides were calling and checking on their members.

Hm. If all the guides were told to "call and check on their members" it seems sales might still be at a crawl compared to what they'd like to see. If they called and told me they could sell me a contract for 100 pts with banked '08 points, all the '09 pts and I'd be getting the employee discount I'd be all over it. :)

For those who got the calls--who attended the "webinar" they had last month? My guide called in the evening too and indicated he was following up with those who watched the webinar--even though he knows I'm done buying points!

My 1st guide was at Hilton Head and would call occasionally, 2nd guide was at WDW and called less frequently than the 1st, and current guide is at Doorway to Dreams in Illinois and has only called me one time to tell me she was our guide, I guess the next one will not call at all.

Been a member for 7 years now and I do not remember ever our guide calling us. I think maybe, once at our resort a few years ago there was a message waiting for us when we got to the room but thats about it...smjj

Up until this year we usually would have a "Welcome Home!" message from our guide on the resort voice-mail. We did receive a call this past Saturday from our guide thanking us for referring an individual for the Gift Card promotion and to introduce herself. We have a new guide. I didn't think to ask what happened to our original guide.

Our guide has never called in the 18 months since our purchase. Not even a welcome home message during our visit last year. That is probably a good thing for us, however, as we are weak and if they would call and try to sell, I am sure we would end up with something.

The guide we purchased from doesn't work for DVC anymore...at least not as a guide. The new guy we got assigned has never contacted us. I didn't expect him to, unless they had a promotion or something. We're kind of low maintenance when it comes to our guide....

I think we got a "thank you" message once for referring somebody for a tour. Nothing else mind you! We always visit in January and made a point of visiting the preview center last year on our trip and bought a small add-on. DH was very disappointed that our guide didn't at least call or email to say "hi" and see how we were doing on our trip!:confused3

The last thing I want on vacation is a sales call from a timeshare agent. If it makes you guys happy, great. But if my guide ever calls me, I will politely ask that he never do it again. If he does, I'll be getting another guide.
