Long story short-ds is 7 and I'm finally going to
go back to rabidly reading things other than
parenting books and bedtime stories! He can
read for himself and he needs to see me reading.
So-I need recommendations from anyone. I don't
like military or scary books. Otherwise, I'm open
to all comers. I'm a good reader and appreciate
a well written book. I've had the
Nannie Diaries and Bridget Jones' Diary recommended.
anyone else?

Anything by Mary Higgins Clark is pretty good (mystery)

Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas is very good (can't remember the author though)

I'm a romance novel reader. That kind of reading helps to relax me.:) Linda Howars and Sandra Brown are 2 of my favorite authors.:)

Hi Shortbun,
Confessions of a Shopaholic, The Persian Pickle Club, Patty Jane's House of Curl, The entire Janet Evanovich Series beginning with One for the Money are some of my recent favorites. Going back on my reading list a year or so I'd also suggest White Oleander, Gap Creek & Memoirs of a Geisha.
Also I love Patricia Cornwell's series about Kay Scarpetta. I'm sure as soon as I submit this I'll be kicking myself b/c I'll remember some great book I forgot to mention.:)

I enjoyed Bridget Jones' Diary and the Nanny Diaries is my book club's Sept. book. Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas was pretty good too. That author also wrote Kiss the Girls and the rest of that series about Det. Alex Cross & his name slips my mind too. Mar Higgins Clark's daughter Carol is pretty entertaining too.

Browneyes-did you read Standoff by Sandra Brown? I enjoyed that.

I highly recommend Outlander
by Diana Gabaldon . It's the first in a series of books and will get you hooked. The others of the series are, in order of publication:

Dragonfly in Amber
Voyager
Drums of Autumn
The Fiery Cross

John Grisham writes a wonderful book. Everytime I read another book by another author, I am glad to go back to Grisham.
Some of my favorites, besides Grisham...
The Harry Potter series...wonderful books!
White Oleander by Janet Fitch
Tell me Lies by Jennifer Crusie
The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen
