Lasagna gardening is when you build up the soil rather that digging up to start a new bed. you start with newspaper and then pile on organic material. As it decomposes the height decreases. With in a year you will have a bew bed reasy to go.http://websites.bhg.com/web/246302/lasagnagardening.jpg

Snowwark - I'm beginning to wonder about you and your eyesight... well maybe just your computer... :D

DH and I was just talking about this today. The area behind the pool, which I have started just over the last few years to try to develop into some sort of garden type area (after removing two very large blue spruce trees from there - broke my heart to do same) still has weeded and grassy areas. We were discussing how to handle that when I mentioned Amid's Lasagna gardening technique and how we maybe should try it. He had some sort of snappy, funny comment about the Lasagna gardening -- I have such a bad memory and can't recall what he said but I do remember it gave me a good giggle. (I will ask him tomorrow what it was). It's a B**** getting old and forgetful....
