Just trying to decide what if any races I want to do at Disney 2011.

Who has decided to take a hiatus from marathon weekend 2011?

ummm, I think Jeff is taking a hiatus 2011.
Not sure though as he has said that before.

Sadly, my DH & I won't be doing any WDW races in 2011. I'd love to do the full or perhaps the Goofy, but we have several commitments throughout the fall that would make training difficult, if not impossible.

I'm hoping for 2012, but DH isn't as enthusiatic about it as I am, which is weird because he is the more serious runner. :confused3

Good luck with your decision. :goodvibes

I don't think I will be down for any Disney events in 2011. :sad2:
I really loved Goofy '10 but DH...not so much. He isn't a Disney fan and is not into an active lifestyle. He was supportive of me going this year, but prefers it as a once in a lifetime event.

My goal is to see how many states I can do fulls in, so, going back to Disney anytime soon doesn't suit that goal anyway.

I'm not sure yet :sad1:. My daughter will likely be in a dance competition in January, and if the schedule is the same next year as it was this year it will be the same weekend as the Disney Marathon. That would really suck, because I really want to make this an annual event! Hopefully I will know in the next couple of months so that I can still register if possible.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I can stand staying away! Maybe after the first year of the competition it will be OK with my daughter if I'm not there with her.

Kimmer I'm thinking maybe the marathon but not sure. I have a huge lifestyle change going since my divorce was signed by the Judge today. I'll let you know when I know. Maybe we can meet up at a race somewhere anyway.

Right now, I am NOT planning on going. Bye Bye Perfectly Goofy. Like Dave, I have new lifestyle decisions going on in our family and Disney races(or any other races) don't fit in.

Thanks all, we are thinking along the same lines. Money needs to be spent in other areas and disney races are getting so expensive but we would miss it big time.

Hope I ahve lots of time to make a decision....and it doesn't sell out quickly this year.

I hear you.

You will have lots of time as long as not only looking to do the Half. Marathon Basically didn't fill and the Goofy took until August after they upped it to 7500. Without the 5th Anniversary, it will probably take longer.

I'd like to do the Full..it would be my first full and I have a goal of "full before 50" and if I don't do it, I won't make my goal. The weather this year really scared me. I was at WDW last week and it was 80+ everyday-that I can do.

I have no interest in going back in 2011. The Disney races I have done have been great and I enjoyed watching my son run the 1/2 in 2008 and running with my daughter in the 1/2 this year. My problem with Disney is that they are pricing their events at the point that I feel taken advantage of. It is their right to charge what they want and mine to choose not to buy.

If I do run another Disney race, it will be an anniversary one like the 25th marathon.

Right now, we're not planning on returning in 2011. That could change, but if we do anything it will be just the Half. DD19 is running her first half in May, and has said if she likes it she may want to try Disney. Don't know if it will be 2011, but possibly. Like everyone else, the cost is getting prohibitive, and even though Disney couldn't control the weather, I was unhappy with the way they managed a lot of things during the weekend. I'd rather run more races during the year somewhere else.

Doesn't look like we will be going back in January. I do plan on running the half in October though.

I am starting to train for some tri's and marathon training just doesn't fit in unless I do a full Ironman. That is a few years off at best :)

I doubt I'd ever go just for the half because other than Magic Kingdom it is a pretty boring race course.

But, I have plenty of time to decide.

enjoy,

After 2 marathons and 2 Goofys I am not planning on returning to Disney for a while (may return for 20th marathon or 10th Goofy). The cost has just gotten to high (and I don't even have to fly) and some of the thrill is gone. I love Disney but enough is enough. There are other races that I would like to give a try like Myrtle Beach. I will miss seeing everyone!!

I'll likely be returning for 2011, but I'm really not sure for which race yet. If I didn't have an annual pass I'd likely be skipping 2011. So many half Marathons I'd like to do, but I'm not sure I'd travel for those like I do for Disney.

I am more than likely going to sit out 2011. There are so many other non-Disney races we are wanting/planning on doing.

Thanks everyone for the input, I have been thinking the same thing as many of you, these events are just getting to expensive, but I really like seeing all my friends...tough call.

Can you call come up to Canada and do a race so I still get to see everyone:grouphug:

I'm another not WDW 2011 weekend- although I'll be at WDW the 5th of Jan on my way to Port Canaveral for the Wonders Panama Canal cruise. I'm hoping to get some family together for the Princess in March next year though. I agree Disney has priced itself out of my market.

I thought of Disney this year as my once in a lifetime try. Still feel that way!

I am doing the full in 2011 and after that I will probably be taking a break for a while from the January event. I was hoping to get the coast to coast in 2011 but it is looking like I will be in Germany when the DL half is run so I may have to do it one more time in the future to get the C2C.

There are so many races I want to do that can be done for less then Disney. I am doing 2011 because I want to do a full (I've only done 2 halves) and if I don't get the C2C in 2011 I will do one more in the future to get it.

I have wanted to get down to WDW while the Christmas decorations are up so my next FL race will probably be coordinated with that. I'll go down and do the race then spend a day or two on property. I am also doing the Half2Run so I need to get out there and get some states in that I haven't run.

After 4 consecutive years I'm out. Many reasons. Cost, lack of vacation time & unreliable training weather in Nov/ Dec to name a few.

It makes me very sad to pass but other races are waiting........Sue

We'll be skipping Jan 2011, too. So many other races we want to do and Disney has just gotten too expensive IMO for the same course.

Will have to work on get together's at other races across the country!

I don't think so for 2011. The entry fee is not a deal breaker. The cost for a room on property and park tickets is. If I don't spend that $1,200 it would be fine. If I go I don't want to run the race and leave. I want to vacation and I can only justify that every few years.

I'm planning on several halfs this year and may try for the WDW full in 2012.

Well, DH and I won't be doing any races other than the WISH 5K next Jan but we will be there to scream team for our teammates.

I usually pay for the trip with overtime and there has not been any in about 18 months for me. I was really hoping that it would pick up making the decision easy. When I woke up this year in my own bed, my first thought was, "I would be at mile 5 right now". I was very jealous of everyone who was down there and vowed to return.

Three weeks later, I am not sure. The final answer is $. My problem is that I only want to do the 1/2 so I have to decide soon.

my big focus in 2011 is going to the nyc marathon...so i think disney races will have to take a backseat. although depending on how things go, i'm not ruling out wine and dine in 2011 as a precurser to the nyc full...but we shall see.

Sadly, I may not be going back for a while. Like Pat, I may go down to scream team for fellow WISHers and help Anne at mile 20ish and do the 5K. That's always fun. However, I'd have to go down by myself. DH has had enough Disney for a while. ;)

I wish Disney had some type of event in December so we could see the Christmas decorations. I know there were still some up this past January but it's not quite the same.

2010 was my first. The weather leading up to that weekend was really stressful... I changed my mind every day that week about how to just get to the airport. Future races will be closer to home. More race, less destination. If I hadn't made it I know I would have lost the $ for the registration, but the non-refundable air and non-refundable Disney resort cost would have HURT.

well although it was not in the cards for us to go back this or next year at all, my DH's friend decided to sign up for next years Goofy and now my DH is contemplating that too. Darn me and my big mouth that we could do it if it was just the 2 of us. Now he is really considering it. I originally told him to do the half and we could walk the 5k together. but now he wants to do the Goofy, he is Goofy!!

Is there a way he can run for a team, or sponsored by one of those companies/ charities I see running the races ? If he is going to run, he might as well do it for a good cause.

Also, he has not run once yet since the marathon this year, which was his first. The cold hurt him as we were unprepared.

If we go, then my goal is to volunteer for at least one of the races or at the expo for a bit. Anybody done the volunteer thing ?

Wow, this is a depressing thread!! I am sorry so many of you will not be there next year. Especially Dave and Robert, you will be missed!

(I will be back yet again for Goofy ;) )

pyrxtc I have volunteered for the last two years--the first time during the full, at a water stop and this year at the half as a course monitor. Volunteering can be fun. The pluses: If you vounteer for the half or full, you get a free one day park ticket, some kind of t-shirt or windbreaker, a small boxed meal. The minuses: shifts start ridiculously early and are variable in length, you may not get the shift you sign up for.

I would still recommend doing it. Registration starts in the August time frame, I think.

Sadly, I think we will also be skipping 2011. We have so much going on in 2010, I wouldn't be able to train properly. Besides, I am bummed out that most of the WDW Christmas hoopla is over by the time marathon weekend rolls around. My plan is to go down in December this year so we can enjoy all the holiday festivities.

I won't be there because it is a really bad time for me to be away from work and it is so hard to train in the midwest in Nov/Dec/Jan. I think I'm going to stick to spring, summer, and fall races for awhile.

I just signed up for the half in 2011. It will be my first and I am looking forward to it! I completed my first 10K at the Race for the Taste in 2009 and this will be my next step up! Also, as of a few weeks ago, I AM NOW A CANCER SURVIVOR!!! Running the half is my reward to myself for all the recovery! -Mike:cool1:
