Hi Karin
My family will be joining you on this adventure!
We booked today and decided to go with this cruise as the 26th is our son's 7th birthday. It will be me (Jen), my husband (Erik), our daughter (Emma, age 8.5y) and son (Simon, turning 7 on Aug 26th). We would love to participate in a fish extender exchange.

I am so sorry it took me so long to reply, but the last few days were really hectic (lots of testbooks to go through and mark) and Tom was ill.
You are going to LOVE a cruise on the Wonder! This is only our second cruise ever and it took us a long time to decide IF we wanted to do a cruise in the first place. But we are HOOKED! We booked our second cruise while we were still on board and have since changed it to back to back cruises Aug 26 and Aug 29, :lmao:
If you want to see/read a bit of our experience, I have done a food review of the 4 day cruise we went on and the link is in my signature (the Pixie Dust one) and there is even more info and photos in my trip report, which is on my homepage.
There is so much to see and do on the Wonder. I hope that a few more DISer will be on the cruise so we can do a real cool Fish Extender exchange. That was real good fun last year!
Oh, and I got your PM and checked my cruise, unfortunately mine is still the same price, but I will check it ever so often! ;)
Have a magical weekend! Karin

Hi,
I am sailing with my 13 year old dd and still thinking about booking the 29th too. Not sure because it may be too close to schools opening day. We need time to shop and get ready for school.
Can't wait for the warmer weather!

Welcome!!! I'm glad you are joining us! It will be a lot of fun! I'm jealous of your back-to-back cruises. I wish we could join you. We'll be at WDW (BCR) and the Nick Hotel prior to embarking. I feel a little guilty about the kids missing that much school. Not too guilty though :rolleyes1
Looking forward to our exchanges!

Thanks for the link, Karin - I'll definitely check that out. Be sure to watch the price. I was surprised when it changed on us.
We are using this cruise to check our sea legs. The last time my husband and I cruised, I was sea sick all 7 long nights. We hope the kids do better. If so, we are planning on rebooking on the ship. My fingers are crossed! We are hitting WDW (and then the Nick hotel) before the cruise. I hope the kids aren't too tired to enjoy the ship.
The kids still don't know about the cruise. I think they Easter bunny is going to leave clues in plastic eggs for them to decode. They know about our land adventures but will be really excited about the cruise! It's been hard to keep it a secret :)

I was really worried about getting seasick too! I never ever experienced anything :goodvibes but Tom got "landsick" once we got back on dry land! :rotfl2:
We did rebook on board too! I changed that about 5 days later to the back to back and they still gave me the discount and onboard credit! Yeah!:cloud9: And we will be there before and after the cruise as well. We usually stay for 4 weeks and this time we lucked out on getting OKW + free dining before and after the cruise.
Maybe we can get together before the cruise as well, so we all know each other before we hit the Wonder.
Do you know what stateroom you'll be in? We are in 7058 for both cruises, same stateroom as last year!
It's going to be such a surprise for your kids! Please let us all know how they react when they find out! This is going to be awesome!
Here is some of the things we found in our fish-extender last summer - boy this was fun!

Thanks for the pix -can't wait for the real thing!!!
Oooh, 4 weeks would be wonderful! Unfortunately, the kids would be bounced out of school if they missed that many days in a row. Even at 10 days, I will receive a letter from the principal. :rolleyes1 We just spread out our trips. We've been going every 6mo for the past few years. We were at DL a few weeks ago. We haven't been to WDW since Oct and we're eager to return. That's when we had free dining - you can't beat that!!! This is our first time at the BCR. We're anxious to check out the pool :)
We don't have our stateroom assignment yet. I'll let you know when it shows up. I'm curious to see where we are placed. Fingers are crossed!

I guess we are lucky, as our schools only start mid September here in Upper Austria, so we can enjoy Florida when the crowds at WDW start to die down and we can go to MNSSHP.
Oh, how I wish to go back to Disneyland! :cloud9: We did a coast to coast in 2006 - 6 weeks travelling and LOVED it!!!!!!! We spent over a week in Disneyland and had so much fun.
But for the last few years we have been taking trips to WDW in February (half term - only one week) and August September, with a few visits to DLRP in between.
You are going to LOVE Stormalong Bay! It is the BEST hotel pool ever! Lucky you!
Hope you had a magical weekend - we turned our clocks forward this morning and that means they "stole" an hour of sleep! :scared1:  :lmao: But we did have fun nonetheless, celebrating Tom's birthday! :)

Please wish Tom a Happy Birthday from us!!! I hope he enjoyed his weekend! :flower3:
We went to the Halloween party for the first time last year. We loved it! We enjoyed it better than the Christmas party - however, the kids LOVED seeing Santa at Disney! That was a magical moment. We did that on Emma's 6th birthday so she was really excited to spend her bday at that party. :)
My husband has an annual convention in LA so we've been tagging along and hanging out with our mouse friend. We have stayed at the Grand Californian so we can easily go to/from the parks during the day while he is in his meetings. I like that it has bunk beds for the kids. I don't think the BCR has them. I need to call and inquire about our room there, too.
How long does it take for you to get to DLRP? I wish we were closer to a Disney property. My sister is a few hours away from WDW and pops over to the parks routinely.

Last year was our first Halloween Party too! We went to the first two that were offered - I LOVE their hard ticketed party events - so much fun. On our "once in a lifetime" Christmas trip (had to take unpaid leave!) we went to three Christmas Party :rotfl: and we even went to some of the Pirate and Princess Parties they offered a few years ago - anything with the word party and Disney and I love it! ;)
Wow! Staying at the Grand Californian! I wish we could, LOL, too expensive for me! We stayed in a good neighbour hotel across the street, unbeatable rate for a family suite.
Going to DLRP - would be at least a 15 hour drive, but we usually fly - we can't get any nonstop flights from our home town, so depending on the stopover it takes between 4 and 5 hours - the actual flight being 2.5 hours. We usually hold an AP for DLRP as they give you 20% off of ANY merchandise and a 10% discount on ANY food (CS and TS) purchased in the parks, hotels and Disney Village - it easily pays for itself in no time :lmao:!
Did you make all your ADRs for your trip yet? It is so much easier now at 180+10 instead of the 90 days it used to be last year! ;)

I really hope they bring back the Pirate/Princess party. This is the first year my kids would really enjoy it. I keep checking and hoping they add it! pirate: My son and husband did the Pirate League in Oct before the Halloween party. The kids also did the pirate cruise out of Port Orleans that same morning. The Pirate/Princess party would be the icing on the cake.
We were able to get a really, really good deal at the Grand Californian. Otherwise we wouldn't have booked there. It just worked out well since I was by myself with the kids during the day. We went back and forth to our room numerous times.
Wow, that's wonderful about your AP discounts! Every little bit helps!
I've only made a few ADRs. We're contemplating spending a few days at the water parks so I don't want to have ADRs those days. Normally I would have booked them the minute our window opened. It feels strange not having them done.
Do you have favorite restaurants you visit a lot?

We won't be booking the 29th. I just booked my airfare and that was expensive! I am not staying in Disney at all this year. We have a busy summer and can't fit it in. booo
The weather has been wacky here in New York lately, one day 90 and the next 40.

We are staying over night at the Airport hotel. We got a really late flight out and won't be getting to Orlando until Midnight. Other wise I would have had to take a late a.m. flight out on day of embarkation. That would have been bad if there were any flight delays.

We are also joining for our first cruise, we were looking at April 2011 on the Dream but have changed our plans. We have added this to our existing trip as looking at Castaway etc. can't wait.
It will be my wife and I plus DD5 and DS2. From what I understand with the fish extender my DD and DW would love this so need to go and find out how it all works! We have to wait for the room number and on wait list for 1st dinner seating as 8pm is too late for our two so would need to think about what we will do with this.
Anyway pleased to join you all!

No problem about getting back to my post. I sometimes check my computer a couple of times a day and feel like days go by, when it has actually only been a day. lol I am not a fan of real life!
You do a great job on your trip reports. I love them!
I am only going to have one of my daughters on this cruise. I have my oldest and youngest coming on the August 13th cruise with me instead. My oldest thought the 8/13 would work better since she only has to take off of work a couple of days.

We have paid in full (long time ago, but I have several parts of the 30 day trip to pay off, so I started way back when :lmao:).
We are Silver Castaway Club Members and our booking window for Palo and excursions opens on May 28.
Are you thinking about an excursion in Nassau? Or are you thinking about Castaway Cay?

We are also Silver (I think?) and we have not yet paid our cruises in full. :( I do believe our window for our first couple of cruises has already come up? I am not sure how it all works, I am kind of new to this new club stuff.
We are possibly looking at Jet skiing on Castaway. I don't believe I can make reservations online for Palo. Last year it didn't let book one seat, I had to wait until I was actually on the ship.
Our first cruise starts August 3. We did the Magic last year for the entire month of August and really enjoyed it. We are hoping this year we have just as much fun on the Wonder.

I just went on Disney's site. I am not Silver, but Platinum. I guess I can book excursions as soon as I decide to pay in full. That may still be a while.
I really should start to get the ball rolling with paying off some of my cruises. You were smart to start paying it off already!
I have one other cruise booked before Disney, and I have been concentrating so much on that one.
I like that Disney site. I just saw all the perks that each tier gets. Very nice!

We are very excited to see other families have decided to join us for the FE exchange. This is our first Disney cruise and we're looking forward to participating with you all! :)
We paid in full when we made our land/sea reservations. However, since this is our first Disney cruise, we can't make our other reservations until June. We are eyeing a couple of excursions. We have some time to decide.
We have a couple of trips in the works before August so I'm working on each one as they come up. We just returned from a trip yesterday and I'm digging through another mountain of laundry. ACK -where's the laundry fairy when you need her?

Greetings! :cool1: We've just made our reservation for this cruise and we would love to participate in the FEs. We have two adults in our room. We also hope to travel with my inlaws, MIL, FIL & SIL, so there may be three additional adults on the FE exchange. I think they would enjoy doing the exchange too. Are you also planning on a meet-and-greet on the first day? We don't have room numbers yet, but could let you know when we do. For us there would be 5 adults.
Looking forward to cruisin' with y'all in August! :rotfl:I'll have a birthday on this cruise...uh:confused:...I mean the ???th anniversary of my 29th birthday! :rotfl2:

It's wonderful to have some more people going on this cruise! I will put you on the FE list (all 5 of you) and you can let me know if something changes.
I think we will need a DIS meet at the beginning of the cruise! I NEED the photos for my trip report! :rotfl2:
No, seriously I love meeting fellow DISers and sharing our love for Disney!
Let me know once you know your stateroom numbers and I will prepare a list (and map) for the FE exchange. It IS FUN!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and how wonderful that you will be celebrating your birthday! There's no better way than to celebrate somewhere Disney! :goodvibes

Very nice!
Dawn
Disney's site is really nice - lots of things to explore!
And yes, if you are platinum you can start booking your excursions and Palo 120 days before your cruise starts.
I don't think you are in a hurry about booking jet skis for Castaway Cay. We booked our excursions right at the 75 day mark (newbies! :lmao:) and whenever I looked there were the same things available.
We did book our Palo dinner and brunch online though. But I was booking for 4, so I have no idea about booking a table for 1!
Can't wait for this vacation to start, even though we actually booked a weekend get away at DLRP just a few hours ago. We will be there in just two more weeks (12 days to be exact)! :goodvibes

I am as happy as you are about the fact that some more DISfriends have joined us on this trip! The more the merrier! ;)
Don't be too worried about making your reservations. Last year when we were new to all of this I was at my computer at 7am EST ready to check in and do my reservations, but whenever I checked afterwards there was plenty of choice. Which excursions are you looking for - I think the spa treatments will sell out first!
Oh, I can so relate to your laundry and the absense of the laundry fairy! I need to go on a week long school trip next week and I return on Friday at 6pm and we'll be flying to Paris for a weekend at DLRP only 12 hours later - yes, we are off at 6am, arriving in Paris at 10am! Can't wait for that mountain of laundry, :rolleyes1

Oh, we can't wait to get back on board as well!
They only do brunch on the 4 day cruises - there are lots of photos in my dining review (it's the "Here's what a little pixie dust" ..... one and there is an itinerary on the first page) or you can go to my homepage and look at the photos. But it was so worth it going there! The food is devine! :thumbsup2
Yes, we are going to Disneyland Paris in less than two weeks! We decided kind of "spur of the moment" (well, it is actually Disney's fault, as they offered me a new AP for DLRP with 6 more months for free, so we just could not refuse!) and we are SO excited about it right now!
CANNOT wait to go there again!
And :goodvibes thank you so much :goodvibes for your birthday wishes! You are right on time - there are still 2 1/2 hours left of my birthday! ;) :flower3:

We have just booked DLP as well now in just over 2 weeks. Also Disney's fault they extended their 40% off and kids stay and play free. We had originally looked at a DVC stay using some points before we realised we could carry them over. This deal means that it is cheaper than just buying park tickets! Driving down in company car and using tesco vouchers for the tunnel = 3 days in the parks for about $500 for a family of 4 Hotel, tickets and breakfast in the park each day sorted.

We were so happy we had signed up for the FE last summer! It was so much fun to "sneak" around the ship and deliver presents. And nearly every time we got back to our stateroom there was something in the FE!
They do sell them on ebay, but there is a thread on how to do one without sewing! It's on the "hints" thread!
Are you going to do some stateroom door decorations as well? They need to be magnets, but there is magnetic paper you can print on! Our door was FULL - but stupid us took photos of all the other doors, just not ours! :scared1:
:cheer2: How great you are going to DLRP too! It is just such a fun break to be at Mickey's European Home! There's nothing better than a Disney fix! :cool1:

I am now trying to catch up and if I should miss a question PLEASE let me know again!
AND, since there are so many of us already interested in a FE list, I am going to put one up in my first post.
Please, let me know your first names, ages of the kids and stateroom number (so I can come up with maps for everyone to make it easier to find the staterooms)
So for those of you more experienced in the FE, Question? Do I leave 3 gifts, one from myself and one from each of the kids or do we as a cabin leave 1 thing? Thanks, I have a ton of cool ideas already!

Tom and I have only participated in a FE once, so my experience is limited to this one time!
What we did was, to leave a present as "a stateroom". As this is like a "Secret Santa" game we left a small goody every day, but there were other participants who left one gift for the cruise, some left a gift every other day. It is up to you.
We sometimes left ONE gift for the "whole cabin", like a screensaver for everyone in the stateroom to share and sometimes we would leave one gift for everyone in the stateroom, like a small box of candy for mum, one for dad aso.
Tom has come up with a list of cool things again and we can't wait to start making our gifts!

Just wondering if August is much hotter on average than June? We've cruised to Nassau in June (it was typical warm, sunny beach weather) but wondering if August could be blazing hot? We've cruised in August before and while the sand is fine to walk on to the beach, walking on the paths can get pretty hot without shoes. And the little ones will need something on their feet since mine are all sensitive to the heat.

We will not be joining all of you. :sad2:
I totally dropped the ball with the Varsity Cheer Schedule....they have double practices during the cruise time....so I need to find a new cruise date.
UGH!
I am so sorry you had to cancel. :sad2: We will miss you!!
Hope you get to book a new cruise soon!

Hi all,
Glad to hear you had a nice get away to Disneyland Paris, Karin.
Sorry, I don't think I will be participating in the FE for this cruise. We are boarding the Wonder on August 3rd and disembarking on August 29th. We are staying on for 6 cruises. If I did the FE's for all my cruises, I would need a few more pieces of luggage.
My oldest daughter wants to do the FE when she boards on the 13th. So we may just do that one only.
I would love to be part of any meet that you have. Hopefully, it will be planned before I leave here for the first leg of my vacation.
I will have fun walking around and looking at everyones beautiful FE's.

Hi --
For all the veteran cruisers out there ... We are trying to figure out what happens if you're doing a back to back cruise in the same stateroom. I'm hoping we don't have to pack up, disembark, recheck luggage, re-register, etc. Will they let us stay on the boat?
Thanks

This is going to be our first back to back cruise as well. What we have been told (last summer) was that we had to disembark, but since we would stay in the same stateroom we could leave all our belongings in the room.
We would then have to check in for cruise no2, get a new key to the world and would be allowed back on later in the morning.
Here is what I found on the DIS (http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/cruise-new/CastawayClub.htm#back) about it. Hope that helps.

I totally understand not taking part in FEs for 6 cruises! :lmao: You would need lots more luggage to carry everything home.
I will definitely try to organize some meets, but we are at the end of the school things and there is not much time left for planning and fun, but once school is over I will post details!

Jen,
We did not book anything for Naussau, since the kids think the ship is the best destination. We usually get off the ship and visit Sr. Frogs. My kids love that place! We have been to Naussau a few times, if you are looking for something fun to do, go over to Atlantis and see the aquarium your kids are the perfect age for it.

Well it's getting closer we have bought some FE bits now. Thinking if you could update the list Dizneeat please with our crew, Dad Steve, Mum Katrina, DD Issy (Isabelle) 5 and DS Sam 2.
Is anyone thinking of / has done the Castaway 5k? I am thinking of it for this time but wondering if it is worth it.
We got moved to 1st dinning which is good as I doubt they would eat much too late. Still no room assignment yet.
Another question someone might know the answer to I might post on the main cruise board as well, in the passporters guide they mention a couple of times about going into the kids clubs with an under3 so long as you supervise. I can't imagine at the moment our little stitch (picture the scene where he makes the city to knock it down...) wanting to spend much time in Flounders. We know that until we try it we won't know but from the pictures it looks too small to really cope with him (I know the CMs must be used to this though).
Does anyone know if we can really go into the kids clubs with him for an activity?

Hi Katrina,
The Cast members will allow you in a visitor and tag both you and DS as that. Ryan has a lot of anxiety in a new place and they welcomed me to come in with him since he was not able to stay there without me. (they paged after a few minutes) They were wonderful he participated in the activity, and I stood by a a security object. We went for craft activites because that is what my kids love. The CM's offered me a chair, and anything else they could for my comfort. They were wonderful. I am sure they would follow the same procedure for you. THere are specific open family time too to play. Hope this helps you.

Thanks Kim that is good to know we are not planning to go ashore at Nassau now, thought about beach day somewhere but thought we would stay on the ship as part of the thing with this cruise is seeing if it is for us. Looking in past navigators there is a thing or two he might like to do and is used to playing with larger children.

Hi back to backers!
If you are sailing back to back and are booked in the same stateroom for each cruise you will receive a letter the night prior to the following cruise on where and what time to meet.
On the Magic it was at 9:00 a.m. in Preludes. As a group we are then escorted down through customs and then we walk back up to the port for a quick check in. You will need to take passports with you.
Since they usually don't allow you to come right back onto the ship, you may want to either hop on a shuttle and head over to Walmart or hop in a cab to other stores. I always find I could use a few extra things that I may have forgotten, and this is a great day to get that done.
Leave everything in your cabin and make sure your cabin steward knows you are staying on for a back to back, and constant reminders won't hurt. (I do have a story that goes with that suggestion, and it isn't pleasant)

We've had our younger kids go into the older kids club to "play" when we picked up our older son. The CMs were fine with it as long as we were with our younger child. But when we left, he left with us ....
We have a 2 year old too, so I'm hoping they'll be able to handle the active toddler for a couple hours. We have used Flounders over the years with our middle child the CMs in Flounder's were amazing, and there were a lot of them for the small number of kids in there.

Here is the latest - updated list I have. We still miss 3 stateroom numbers, but once I have them, Tom will put together a map of where the different staterooms are located on the ship.
I had to LOL when you said 30 days out - we leave Austria for WDW in 25 days - everything has to be settled by then! ;)

I know! I hesitated putting the "30 days" on there... but the last cruise we did we kind of cut it off at 30 (because things were personalized and folks needed to know how many to buy or make...) Of course (us being one of them :confused3) we decided to do the cruise late in the game and they still, very kindly, included us. I didn't know if there was a "typical" way of doing it...or each sailing just kind of does what they like. I know, with your travel plans, you have to bump that up a little! :yay: Have a safe trip over-we'll see you next month!

Got my documents in the mail today and here are my rooms:
Aug 26 - #2643
Aug 29 - #2647
When I called DCL customer service (I had asked for same room at time of booking) rep said to call back - they might be able to do something. If not, once we arrive at port, to ask again
As for packing.... I pack the day before!!!! (he he he)

Hello, fellow cruisers! :flower3:
Not much longer for us and we'll leave Austria for 12 nights at WDW before our cruise.
So here is your deckplan - download pdf here (http://magicaldisneytrips.com/ship/26-29.pdf).
It shows where all the staterooms are located on the ship. There are TWO pages!!!
If the pdf is not working for you, I have a jpg as well. Let me know if you need it!
See you all very soon!

Thanks for putting out the maps. These are great. However, I think in the excitement of our pixie dusted upgrade...I may have transposed the numbers when we found out our room assignment. I just caught this today when I saw the room circled. We are actually in an oceanview room....Room number 2546.
I'm sorry to mess up the map. I hope this is the best way to get the info out for the change. See you all in two weeks!

THANK YOU all for the wonderful gifts! Emma and Simon were thrilled to find such fun surprises in our fish extender. You are all very creative! :thumbsup2
We are sorry we were not able to make it to the meet and greet. We were side-tracked several times trying to take everything in. We rebooked a 7-night cruise so we can slow down and enjoy everything more next time around.
We found out we were made a "Magical Family" on this cruise. As a result, we spent a lot more time enjoying the wonderful creations from Chef Winston and the Palo staff. YUMMY!!
We hope you all had as much fun on this cruise as we did!

Hope you got the can of Tim Horton's coffee I left at your door. Sorry I couldn't get the IceCap can, so you'll have to trek up to Canada for that!!!
~Monica
[QUOTE=PrinceandPrincess;37516802]I wish there was a way for you to bring me a Tim Horton's ice coffee. I have no idea what ice coffee base is, but it makes the coffee amazing. We are about 6 hours from the Canadian boarder, and though I have though about it, I have never driven up for it. I do hit every one the whole way through Ontario on the way to my sister's in Michigan!

Thanks to everyone for leaving your wonderful treats at our door! We had a great time and had the pleasure of staying on board as we did a back-to-back and finally met Karin and Tom!
Also, while enjoying the Blue Lagoon experience, my daughter and I met a family and I have tons of pictures of them with the dolphin to burn on to a DVD... and now that I am home, I think that family was part of our FE group - Erik & Jen of room 6008!
I will get you your pictures once I get all of our stuff unpacked (got back last night), sorted, laundry done, back-to-school shopping done..... etc, please be patient and I will get them off to you towards the end of next week!
Had a blast!

Monica - Emma was the one who figured out you were part of the FE exchange but after the fact! She remembered your room number from the encounter. How fun was that?! Thank you so much for taking those pix - we can't wait to see them!

I did THANK YOU!!! I had thought I sent you a PM, thanking you, but I obviously mixed something up! I have made a few pots to ice, but I still think a trip to Canada is in order!

Hi Monica -
I tried to send you a PM but I'm not sure it went through. I wanted to see if you had a chance to send the dolphin photos. Our family is super excited to see them! :cool1:
Can you please let me know at your earliest convenience?
Thanks so much!!
