Well, it's official --- we have reservations!:yay:
April 7th - April 13th, 2010 and we can't wait!!!
So in order to give me something to do with my nervous energy, I'm going to try to start a Pre-Trip Report....here goes!
Cast of Characters:
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/B-original.jpg
Me (Beth) and my DH (Brian) -- married for 12 1/2 years, college sweethearts, Diehard Patriot and Red Sox fans! We both thank God for each other and the rest of the characters every day!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/February.jpg
:cool2:John (9) - our leader....that is, the way our day goes is usually based on how John's day is going! Loves Star Wars and legos and might be considered "obsessed". Also enjoys baseball and video games.
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/September.jpg
:hippie:Abby (7) - our creative one. Loves art, drawing, designing fashions. Is also quite good in gymnastics.
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/May.jpg
pirate:Noah (4) - our daredevil and the reason we are going on this trip (more on that later) Loves baseball, dogs (dalmatians are his favorite), and joins his big brother with a love of Star Wars and legos.
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/November.jpg
:cutie:Ella (3) - our baby and resident drama queen. She loves baby dolls, princesses, singing, and loves to EAT!
As crazy as life is with four little guys, we are trying to stay sane and one step ahead of them. Though there are the inevitable battles, our kids generally love being around each other.

The beginning of it all ----
Although it seems like it was forever ago, our lives changed forever on May 22, 2009 when Noah had his first seizure. Prior to this, his development was normal. He went on to have 3 more seizures in the next 3 days, with normal results on LP, CT, MRI and EEG. He was put on a medication and sent home. Two weeks later, we started noticing that he would have periods of “space outs”, occurring maybe one or two times a day. At our followup neurology appointment, he “spaced out” right in front of the neuro, confirming what we all thought -- these “space outs” were absence seizures and we were dealing with a more complex seizure disorder than we originally thought.
The spiral downward ----
Over the next few week, we changed medicines, added medicines and increased dosages. He was now having absence seizures every 2-3 minutes, and head drops/myoclonic seizures totaling about 20-30 per day. He was falling a lot and had taken to hanging out on the couch. By the first week in July, he was in Non-convulsive status epileticus (NCSE), seizing 100s of times a day, spending an average of 6 minutes out of every 15 in seizure activity. We temporarily broke it with high dose valium, but two days later he was back in NCSE. Noah was slipping before our eyes – not interested in playing with his precious legos, back in pull-ups, barely speaking, barely moving, and had gone from a solid 41 pounds to a scrawny 34 pounds in less than a month. He was diagnosed with Doose Syndrome, or myclonic astatic epilepsy, a med-resistant, catastrophic form. Prognosis is uncertain, but seizure control is key. Our doctor recommended either one more med, Felbamate, if we wanted to try one more drug, or the ketogenic diet. My husband had already read a book on the diet and was sold. I was leaning towards trying that last med, since I was fearful of the work involved with the diet, but neither of us could bring us to sign the release form for the Felbamate. (It has some devastating, but extremely rare complications) Since we were already in the hospital, we decided to try the diet.
The bottom ---
With Noah in such a compromised position, we also made the incredibly difficult decision to feed him via an ng tube. He was seizing so much and on so many different mediations that he wasn’t eating a thing. We also started hearing phrases like “drug-induced coma”, “concerned about brain function”, and “severe form of epilepsy.” It was at this same time that we had to cancel our original plans for Disney, scheduled in September. Not knowing what the future held for Noah, let alone the disappointment of something we had all been looking forward to, was heart-breaking. The whole summer long I kept thinking, gotta get him better so we can celebrate at Disney. It was not to be…… This was a dark day. But there were glimpses of light ahead!
The miracle diet ---
Remarkably, on day 4 of the ng tube keto feed, he became seizure free. He slowly regained his alertness and his EEG improved remarkably. We went home in August and slowly began transitioning to an oral diet. When we started the diet, Noah was on a total of 5 anti-seizure meds. He is now down to 2 and has been seizure free for 5 ½ months, except for a breakthrough t/c seizure 4 months ago when weaning one of his meds. The most remarkable thing is that the diet has given us our son back – he is thriving, alert, playing again with all his siblings, and just being his “trouble-making” self! pirate:
Next up --- what our current days look like….

Ketogenic diet FAQ
So what is the ketogenic diet anyhow?
It is a super high fat, low protein, low carb diet that, along with a specific calorie allotment, puts the child into a constant state of ketosis.
What does it have to do with seizures?
Even experts disagree as to how it actually works to combat seizures, but it does – either by increasing ketones or lowering glucose in the bloodstream. For kids in particular with intractable seizures, it can be very successful--- over 50% have a large reduction in seizures and about 1/3 become seizure free.
What does that mean for our daily life?
I measure everything that goes into Noah’s mouth. Every recipe is calculated with the help of a computer program. All kids have different ratios, but for every 1 gram of protein and carbohydrate, Noah must have 3 grams of fat. That leads to a lot of heavy creams, butters and oils. Every ingredient of every meal has to be measured on a gram scale, and every drop has to be eaten – we travel with scrappers! He cannot have anything that I have not prepared, other than water. He's also on 5 supplements, taken 1-3 times a day, in addition to his seizure meds. In a nutshell, it is a very time-consuming, effort-intensive, treatment….that saved our son’s life. I curse it and praise God for it every day!:headache::worship:
Will he be on it forever?
Hopefully not. Most kids are on it for 2 or 3 years. But some are on it longer. We just celebrated our six-month mark!:woohoo:
For more information?
www.charliefoundation.org (http://www.charliefoundation.org) is a great resource.
Also, “First Do No Harm” is a movie with Meryl Streep, directed by Jim Abrahams, father of a keto kid. It’s based on a true story of a keto kid whose mom had to fight to get her son on the diet.
Hopefully this wasn’t too much information…..but I do feel like more people should be aware of it. We were lucky to have our doctor suggest it. Others aren’t so lucky…believe me!!
Now back to our regularly scheduled programming……our WISH TRIP!!!!!:mickeyjum:

Awesome introduction!
I have been schooled on the Keto diet...I had no idea it was high fat! :teacher:
I will put a link to this on the Wish Trippers thread, too, so that everyone can come over and say hello!
PS: Just four years before your May 22 on May 22, 2005 - a very dear friend of mine was in a boating accident and lost her leg. So I cringe at that date, too.

:wave2: Hi, Beth! Glad that you got your PTR started! Your family is beautiful!
I have a question. . . how does the ketogenic diet make a difference in epileptic kids. I am very unfamiliar with this, and just don't know much about it. Aidan has endocrinology issues, and we put a lot of effort into keeping Aidan from being ketotic, so I guess I'm wondering how being in a constant state of ketosis benefits the child with epilepsy? :confused3
I am not questioning your methods or reasons for doing it, just not familiar with it and wondering how exactly it works for Noah and kids like him.
Congrats on the wish trip!

Hi Maroo,
Thanks so much!!
I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's accident. Yes, that date brings cringes here too. This might be too much to share, but on the same date in 1999, 10 years before Noah's 1st seizure, my father was in a horrific car accident. He survived, barely, recovered, then died 4 months later due to a complication. I spent the summer of 1999 in various hospitals with my dad....then to make matters worse, Noah's hospital room overlooked the area of the hospital where my dad died. I still haven't truly processed it all, but somehow, strangely enough, Noah's hospitalization brought some healing from my father's ordeal. That was another reason the ng tube was so hard on me....my father had one for most of his hospitalizations.
But life goes on and with it we have great hope for the future! I should mention that most likely my mom and sister will be coming down, staying at a hotel nearby to GKTW......ANY SUGGESTIONS ANYBODY???? That was just another reason canceling the original trip was so hard...it would've been close to the 10 year anniversary of my dad's death. My mom and sister had been planning on joining us to help with the kid to adult ratio! If you can't beat them, join them!:thumbsup2 So I'm really glad they are planning on joining us for this even more SPECIAL TRIP!!
Blessings to all of you and your awesome wish kids!!!

Hi Miranda!
Funny thing is --- nobody really knows HOW it works...just that it does! Unfortunately epilepsy doesn't get that much research $$$ in general, and what money it does have usually comes from drug companies, which doesn't help with research on the diet.
That said, most folks think that when the brain runs on ketones (byproducts of fat metabolism) instead of glucose, it causes the brain to stop seizing, or raising the seizure threshold at least. Others think that just having a lower glycemic index, or glucose stores, help with it.
Ironically, it has been around since Biblical days....having people with seizures FAST...which naturally puts them into a "fat burning" mode...resulting in ketosis.
Hope this helps a little bit. I edited this, but with Aidan and his endocrinology issues: I know there are some contraindications and that Noah was screened before starting on the diet to make sure his body would break down the fats successfully. So maybe they want to make sure Aidan doesn't go ketotic because his body wouldn't be able to break down the fats? There's also a risk of becoming ACIDOTIC when you are ketotic, so it's a fine balance that we're always watching.....
If you are interested in learning more, feel free to PM me and I can give you TONS more info -- you can also check out the Ketogenic Diet by Freeman, the "keto bible" so to speak!!
Ok, off my keto soapbox!!! Funny, I would gloss over when people mentioned the diet originally, now I'm a diehard fan!! :cheer2:

Hurray for dates! You'll be leaving right before we get there (4/17). I have heard of the diet from a friend of ours whose dd's both have undiagnosed conditions that include epilepsy. The dd on the keto diet is also tube fed. My dd has seizure-like activity but has never been diagnosed, because her tests never show activity. She finally had one in front of one of her many specialists and the doc was kind of watching my reaction. Phoebe's "seizures" are absence seizures with myclonic jerking. I held her through it and when she came out I told the doc what all the tests have said and what the other docs have said and how having a diagnosis might not even help us. She currently seizes a few times a day, and knowing all the side effects of the meds I'm not sure it's worth it to medicate her. After I said that the doc agreed and said, let's wait and see. Just watch it and if you feel it's getting worse we'll do more tests. If she did receive a diagnosis she would be eliminated from her favorite thing, horseback riding. It might sound weird, but for her, I just don't think it's worth it.
Having said that, Phoebe and I attended the funeral of one of her classmates who died during a seizure, so I know this is not something you can take lightly when they have so many seizures a day. My friend with the two daughters is always thrilled when the seizures drop in number, and she has had great results with keto since they tried it. It sounds like you guys are awesome parents, putting in the effort required to make your son's life better. I'm glad this trip is going to help you all celebrate being seizure free and bring your mom and sister close to you again as well.

What a great pre trip report. Can I ask where about in RI are you located? We are right over the RI/MA line...but in MA. Do you go to Hasbro Children's for your son's care?
As for your mom and sister, my sister and my stepson came with us on Jake's trip and they paid there way, however they were able to stay with us at GKTW. I think you can fit up to 7 or 8 people in one villa. Plus they are allowed to eat there just like the rest of your family.
Can't wait to follow your pretrip...:cool1:

Hi every body! This is so much fun to talk with you about this as my hubby isn’t quite the planner that I am and is getting tired of hearing about my already growing lists! Don’t get me wrong – he’s super excited, though he probably won’t start his packing until late the night before we leave….seriously!!
Melissa – I’ll try to stay in touch to give you any last minute tips since our trips are so close. My daughter would be jealous of Phoebe…she’s begging me for riding lessons!
Jennifer – Can’t wait to hear how Gavin’s trip goes! We are also homeschooling here. We started last year due to a teacher conflict, and haven’t looked back. My kids love it!
Jessica – my boys would LOVE it….c’mon over! :yoda:
Dmbfan – we’re in Portsmouth! Where are you? I loved your trip report…what a beautiful family! They told me only 7 would fit in the villa, so with my sis AND mom that makes 8. So they’ll be staying down the road at a hotel, but spending most of their time with us.
So the planning continues…..
I’m a crazy list maker, so I’ve already started. :idea:My main concern (shocker) is FOOD. Before Noah went on the diet, I never realized how much everything we do in life revolves around FOOD!! Fortunately he’s a pretty compliant kid with it, but I’m also trying to plan so he can have some of his favorites down there. I just want to prevent him from getting to sad (on HIS special trip) about what he can't have. I eventually have to call the TSA to find out what I can travel with, and then I’m going to find a way to get a few items down there that are critical. One is 40% fat cream – not available everywhere – but hopefully something I won’t have to bring with me.
Does anybody know where the closest grocery store is? Is the Walmart a grocery or just a store?
I think mostly we’ll play it by ear with eating at the parks, but I did want one planned meal to sit down at, preferably with characters. So I made one at Chef Mickey’s, but have yet to contact them about Noah. Hopefully they will either be able to help me or allow me to bring his food.
One question for post-trippers……how easy is it to go back and forth between GKTW and the parks? If kids get tired, is it worthwhile going back for a bit, then returning to that park or another one? Or is it more of a pain to do this? :drive:
Lastly, we are going the week after Easter….so I’ve already decided that their Easter baskets will be filled with “practical” items for Disney – sunglasses, stuff to do on the plane, etc.! (Kill 2 birds with one stone!) If there’s anything in particular you can think of that would be helpful, can you let me know? THANKS!!!!!

Hi Beth, I loved homescholling last year Gavin last year but this year were not doing it. Well not really. The program he was on bumped us when Gavin couldnt start this year because he was in the hospital. So we are still waiting on getting him into homebound schooling. It's taking forever. He hasnt technically been in school at all this year although I do some things with him at home on my own. Since his surgery he has alot of endurance issues and especially with anything he has to Think on. It wears him out pretty quick.
Anyway sorry I hijacked your thread. :goodvibes
I cant help with the food issues but Im sure somebody will have some answers.

So maybe they want to make sure Aidan doesn't go ketotic because his body wouldn't be able to break down the fats?
This totally makes sense to me. Aidan has malabsorption issues and his GI tract just pushes the fats on through. In general, he has a hard time keeping any fat from what he eats and it is very hard to keep weight on him. When he is ketotic, his body is essentially starving. And many times, it does lead to acidosis. Obviously, I don't think it would be an option for him if he developed seizure activity. Thank goodness that's not one of his medical issues! :worship:
Thanks for explaining! :teacher: I guess I'm so used to looking at things from an endocrinology / gastroenterology standpoint, that I didn't 'get' the neurological aspect. I still don't completely understand it, but I'm glad that it works for Noah! Each child is different, and if you find something that's working for your child, you have to stick with it.
I've subbed, so I'm in for the long haul! popcorn::

So, how is it that I skipped over how this trip came to be???
Noah's godsend of a nurse (in the neuro clinic) submitted him shortly after his discharge in August. She visited him almost every day in the hospital. She knew of the original Disney trip that was cancelled and we both just ASSUMED that's what his wish would be. Kids do have a way of changing their minds at the drop of a hat, right? ;)
Well, the MAW folks suggested I play act with him prior to their visit. Enter lots of interesting "play act" scenarios with a 4 year old. Here are the highlights:
1. "I want HUNGRY, HUNGRY, HIPPOS!!!" What? NO IDEA where this came from, but it persisted for a while and guess what Santa brought?
2. Then, "I want to go to Disneyworld and fight Darth Vader". (His friend had gone in the fall and we saw a video of him doing the Jedi Training at DHS.) Not to mention, my boys are Star Wars CRAZY!! Okay, play acting "successful." :thumbsup2
3. Then, all of a sudden, just a few days before the wish granters came, he says "I want a big pool in the backyard." :confused3 Seriously? Where does THIS come from? Does he realize that we live in a place where pools are only used for the month of July? But my husband and I just throw up our hands (and perhaps our yard?) .... after all, it is HIS wish.
4. So comes the day of the visit, and we're still not really sure what he's going to say, and he comes out with "I want to go to Disneyworld....because there's a pool there!" So there it is!! Something tells me, though, that once we're there, there will be a lot more on his agenda then just swimming!!
Since that day, everything has moved really fast, and we are seriously so, so, so excited!!! :yay: I can hardly believe it is really going to happen!

My mother and sister just booked their flights and will be coming with us ! :worship:
This will help so much in the event we have problems with Noah, fatigue of the two little guys, etc. That way the older two can be guaranteed full days....unless they tired out the adults too -- possible!
They haven't found a place to stay yet, but hoping to stay close to GKTW, since we'll be doing things together most of the time. I know other folks brought folks along -- did anybody do it this way? (staying elsewhere?)
Medically, Noah's doing well and got a "good" EEG report --- compared to what it looked like last time, this is AMAZING. :woohoo::woohoo: So we've decided to try to wean a med SLOWLY and it's getting me a bit :scared: freaked out, since the last time we tried this we saw a bad seizure. So far, so good, but at least we're doing this NOW and not closer to the trip!! :thumbsup2

Hi, dmbfan!
Yes, we're on Aquidneck Island (where Newport is), but very close to Fall River, Mass. We are close to the water (1.5 miles or so), but the whole island isn't that big, so everybody is pretty close!:) Did you fly out of TF Green or Logan? We're flying out of Green.
Thanks for the :cool1: on his EEG. We are CAUTIOUSLY optimistic about this. I just feel like since life can change so fast, I want to protect myself and not get overly excited! Dumb, I know. He had a bad day the other day and I thought "OH, no. The med change is going to start this all over again." Then come to find out I had forgot to give him some of the carb of his breakfast meal (spaced out on adding the blueberries), so he had TOO much fat and was overly ketotic. ARGH.:surfweb:

We just got our wish trip packet today! The kids had a great time watching the Disney DVD and after that, I might have a hard time keeping the little guys off some of the crazier rides! ;)
I'm hoping to start planning some of the days soon -- what fun!!
I've also started trying to look at the GKTW website and the schedule there -- wow there's a lot of things! We really want to hit the fireworks at some of the Disney parks at night, but there are also so many cool things most nights at GKTW. Anybody have any suggestions as to what nights you really shouldn't miss? My kids tend to be on the shy side, so I know they wouldn't do Idol! :rotfl:
Also, I contacted the TSA about travelling with Noah's foods and I got a fairly impersonal letter back saying that I shouldn't have a problem bringing special dietary foods AND liquids on the plane. Has anybody had an experience like this? I'm bringing frozen foods, some thawed foods, and some liquid food. I would HATE to have our vacation delayed or for us to miss the plane because of something we could've resolved ahead of time.
Thanks again for ALL your input!!!

As for the GKTW nights, for us Thur. Chritmas is the only absolute do. Then a few if we dont have to skip anything we will do like the pirate & princess party. If I remember right there was one night they didny have anything at night.

Hi Beth.......................I finally caught up with you!
I love Newport!!!!!!!!! Was hoping to hit the mansions at Christmas time this year but............well, ended up going on a Wish trip instead:rotfl:
That's quite a ride your little Noah's been on. So glad that the diet had such amazing positive results.
We only managed to fit in the Xmas party on Thursday night but I wish we had gone to 1 or 2 others..........just for the experience. The Candy Land party was clearly packed the week we were there (we got there as it was breaking up) so that might be a fun one. People say Mayor Clayton's Birthday party is supposed to be fun. IDK Then there are people who didn't like any of them so who knows  Best bet is to try and see if you can find reviews in previous Wish trippers TR's or pick the brains of those of us who have already been on the Wish Trippers Unite Thread.
Happy planning!

Hi everybody,
Sorry it's been a while. I'm trying to keep my cool since it's still over 6 weeks until we leave. Not soon enough according to most of us around here! :)
So we're trying to do a little scheduling....to pass the time!! I'm also trying to plan out meals, find a cooler, and contact anybody who will listen (TSA, Southwest) about what we will need to bring on board the plane. I just want all the i's dotted/t's crossed before we show up at 5 in the morning and somebody tells me to throw out all my keto food, which has probably taken me 3 days to make, or not go to Disney! That would make me CRAZY!!! :headache: Trying to avoid that at all cost! :thumbsup2
So, my big question is --- is it possible to visit a park on the day you arrive?
We originally thought we would spend the day at GKTW, but the fact is that we're only there 7 days and with 6 day passes, one of the travel days will have to be a park day. We have a 7am direct flight down, which puts us at the airport (Lord willing) around 10am. So we really will have more time that day than the day we leave.
So is it possible to check into GKTW, then go to (probably) Unversal or Sea World? When do you get the tickets for the park? Would I have to wait for orientation?
These questions sound silly, I admit, but planning for Disney is keeping us out of the winter duldrums around here!!! (which we all have a case of, I'm afraid)
On a SUPER AWESOME note, the med wean is going well!! :yay: Better than even expected --- in addition to no seizures (Praise GOD), he actually has had a LOT more energy! I am so happy because I was really starting to worry about how he would manage the energy levels at the parks. The kid fell asleep in my arms when his wish granters came to interview him! But getting off this med seems to be upping his energy --- something which all us moms can agree that can be a good or bad thing! :scared1:
I'm waiting to hear back from the neuro as to how much more we want to wean before the trip. We want to go VERY conservative here, so that we don't end up back where we were 6 months ago! That, and of course, I'm thinking --- we can't cancel Disney TWICE in a year! So we don't want to do anything too close to the trip either.
Okay, I'm babbling now...time for coffee! :coffee:

Hi Beth,
We had a 7 am direct flight from Logan also and although we got into MCO at just after 10 by the time we got our luggage and rental car and made a really quick stop at Walmart (which you may or may not plan to do, it's on the corner as you turn into the street for GKTW) we didn't actually get to the village until noon. Then you'll need to check-in and sit with a volunteer for another 15 minutes for a quick review. So best case scenario, I'd say, would get you to a park by early-mid-afternoon, maybe 2 or 3 o'clock. Not that you couldn't hit a park that's open late (you could check the schedule), but you might just want to plan that first day as an 'explore the village' day. Keep in mind also that there are parks that typically close early (Animal Kingdom and SeaWorld) so on those days your kids will have the whole evening to enjoy GKTW (unless you are planning to go to a dinner show or do something else off-site).
When we were there the orientations were typically scheduled once in the evening at 7:45 and once in the morning at 9:00. That's when you will get all of your tickets. You CAN arrange a private orientation if either of those times don't work for you (they don't encourage it for obvious reasons but if you have other plans don't hesitiate to tell them; they WILL accomodate you).
:yay: for all the good news!!!!

Have you considered combining two parks in one day instead of trying to cram it in on your first day? For instance, take two of the parks that you think you'll spend the least time at and spend half a day at each. You could do Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in the same day or Animal Kingdom and Epcot? There are a bunch of combinations, but we plan on fitting two parks in on one of our days, too. We may still do something our first day, but it will be something brief like Gatorland. Just something to consider.

Hi Beth,
I agree with what the other girls said. We plan on our first day as our check in, exploring, hitting Wal-Mart...I'll go to orientation probably at 7:45 and have Bryan take the kids to Mayor Claytons Bday party. Then I am planning for early to bed...and hitting AK the first day on Sunday. We'll probably head back to AKL early do dinner and let the kids sleep for a bit. MK is open until 2am that Sunday night!!! We have never really seen it in the dark...and the kids think it is so cool to be able to stay up late..Then the next day we plan for a pool day and maybe doing US/IOA that afternoon and evening. If you plan on doing a power tour, you can probably squeeze in those two parks together. I agree with Miranda, that you could probably double up EP and DHS if your not into doing to much in the World Showcase... I would probably do DHS first and then stay at EP for the night so you can see illuminations......but (see, there is always a but!!) I have heard Fantasmic at DHS is great too!! We actually haven't seen it.

Gosh, I almost knew before the question that I might be squeezing in too much. The problem has come up because I had my mom and sister buy the same passes that we will be getting (3 days disney, 2 days universal, 1 day seaworld) So even though we will probably do 2 disney parks in one day, I feel like we have to use my mom/sis' passes. Know what I mean? :confused3 I don't know.
We will have two rental cars, so they could always head over to one of the universal parks and we could always play our family's role by ear. Does that make sense? Then they wouldn't have to come with us to check in and hit Walmart, stow away all of Noah's frozen food, settle in, etc.? If we are up for meeting up with them, great. Otherwise we could meet them back with us at GKTW. Oh, geez, I need to really start putting some brainwork into it.
Bummer today though that we couldn't get a Chef Mickey's res for the day we hope to go to MK. Noah's not been to particular about many things, but he wants to eat with Mickey! So I made a dinner one at the Garden Grill at Epcot -- supposedly it has Mickey and Chip and Dale. I show him the picture and he says, "Ok, if I can't eat with Mickey, I want to eat with Alvin and the Chipmunks!" Who really needs to tell Chip and Dale, right? ;)
Much more questions and crazy plans (that will probably be tossed out the window eventually) to come...

Bless your heart! Trying to fit everyone else in and you guys!
First of all...Please PM me - if you want - your information for a Chef Mickey's reservation. I will see what I can do to get one for you. We have a little "behind the scenes" team that tries to call for reservations for wish families, and since this one is not one you have to pay for or guarantee with a credit card - it should be fairly easy to try to get for you guys.
I will just need the date you are shooting for and approx time - and then how many adults and children and the kids ages. Then I can see if we can find one for ya.
We have been fairly successful, even with some hard ones - so it is worth a shot.
I personally think that Wish Kids and their families should get some special arrangements since you don't know your dates 6 months out like the rest of us planners. So I will do everything in my power to see if we can get you the reservation that your wish child really wants. :)

Unless your mom and sister don't want to hang out with you guys every day or you want a break from them at some point, I would just have them go where you go. I believe GKTW allows you to bring guests on to the property, so they might really enjoy seeing the kids explore such an amazing place. I would ask what they want to do, I guess.

It is hard trying to fit everything into basically 5 days. We're doubling up AK/DHS and US/IOA. I'm sure I'll have lots to say about it when we get back, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask! I'm still trying to figure out where to fit in Gatorland..we went when I was a kid, and it was so cheesy/campy..we LOVED it! Might have to do a quickie stop on the way to the airport :goodvibes: Of course, then again..we might be collapsed in exhaustion by then! :lmao: At any rate, I would just explain the situation to your mom and go from there, I'm sure she'll understand.

As a volunteer at GKTW, one thing I have noticed is that many families (adults more so than children) are exhausted from the hastles of the flight. For many, a stop at the Ice Cream Palace is a great place to relax and begin to take it all in. The trip, the village, etc. can be a bit overwhelming. Remember there is absolutely no way you can do everything and see everything. One "complaint" I hear from families getting ready to check out is that they tried to do too much. Remember, the main thing is to have fun.
See you soon.

Thanks for the reminder, Katie! We had already planned to just hang out the day we get there, and I'm keeping in mind that if we don't get to do something we have planned, Piper won't miss it since she hasn't been there! Sorry for the hi-jack, Beth!

Okay, I've listened!! THANK YOU, ladies, for slapping some sense into me!!! :rotfl: Our flight is at 7, airport is 45 min away, so I'm guessing we'll be getting up sometime around 4 to get moving. I think having a low key day for arrival day might be in order!! :thumbsup2
So here is a revised and BAREBONED plan:
Wed 4/7 - arrive, get settled, hang out at GKTW, maybe go to Downtown Disney to check out the LEGO store!!! (All my kids are LEGO crazy!)
Thurs 4/8 - Probably seaworld, with GKTW Christmas at night
Fri 4/9 - Magic Kingdom all day (maybe?? Chef Mickey's -- if something opens up, thank you, Maroo!) My brother and his girlfriend will be joining us this day -- yay! We will be quite the crew!
Sat 4/10 - Universal Studios -- maybe IOE if time
Sun 4/11 - Hollywood Studios -- hopefully catching Fantasmic at night.
Mon 4/12 - Animal Kingdom in AM -- Epcot in PM/Evening. Currently have res at Garden Grill (with Mickey and Chip and Dale -- aka the Chipmunks if you are Noah!) :)
Tues 4/13 -- Departure day -- already NOT looking forward to it! :guilty: Our flight isn't until 6pm, so not sure what we'll do this day --- hang out at GKTW and pack, use the 2nd day of the Universal pass, Gatorland, Downtown Disney....:confused3 Up for suggestions, for sure!!
Please feel free to comment or let me know if I botched something!! The only park we don't want to spend a ton of time at is AK. We went there for a day a few years ago, so we really just want to do a few rides and maybe see Nemo? And we will stay AWAY from "Dinosaur", which gave John and Abby (then 6 and 4) nightmares for weeks! Note to self : read the ride warnings next time! :sad2:
My mom and sis will be following us around and are happy to just do that. My hubby has fond memories of Epcot World Showcase so he's excited about that. My kids are most excited about DHS, US and MK. Me? I just want the kiddos to have a great time! Happy kids = Happy mom! :lovestruc
Okay, time to get this crew moving this morning.......

Forgot to mention that we'll probably be the slow to get out of bed bunch. Thanks, Pamela, for letting us feel like we're not the only ones! I used to be a morning person, really! But our kids are super excited to do the Character meetings at GKTW, so we'll probably try to catch most of those.
So -- my question about these autograph books. Since this trip will be a great opportunity to get autographs, I'm going to try (emphasize -TRY) to make each kid their own book, so they can have their own memory book. I will try to intersperse pictures with the autographs. So my question is, how many pages should I make it? I mean, how many autographs (roughly) do you usually get? We probably won't stop all the time, but will do the GKTW characters, and whoever they see that cross our paths?
Also, does anybody know if the Star Wars characters do autographs?
OK, done now!!!! Thanks for listening!!! :goodvibes

Well, I just pulled out Olivia's autograph book and counted the number of autographs she got..........................32!!!!!!!!!!!!
The thing to keep in mind is that you won't have to wait in line at all for autographs as they will sweep you right to the front. I think without the 'magic button' I would be hesitant to let the kids (make me) stand in line for autographs.............those lines get looooong and who wants to spend their whole day in line????? Being able to skirt the line was just terrific and as a result every time we'd see a character we'd be like "There's X............RUN!!"
Re: the Star Wars characters..............sorry, I'm no help there.
Your itinerary looks good so far:) Probably a smart move to not plan anything off-site for that first day. Our limo picked us up at 4 am so it was a loooong day first day!

That would be Margaret (MCazer on DIS, Howddode on Ebay)! She made them for our boys, too. They are awesome autograph books. Her Ebay listings have matching hip bags and a large pen or marker, too. All of the books are personalized and she does such a great job. I'll be posting pictures of ours on Friday on Aidan's PTR, too. Just joining in and chiming in on some thoughts. . .
Autographs can really vary - we've gotten as few as 20 and as many as 60 depending on the trip and what our focus was. Plus, I know my DD is not satisfied with one autograph per character so if she meets Mickey three times in the course of a week he has to sign her book every time. Unless you attend Star Wars weekend (which I think is in May) and the actors from the movies are there signing, SW characters do not sign autographs.
I do not have any personal experience with this but from what understand Disney is the #1 vacation spot for understanding special dietary needs and accomodating them. Also, I think you can bring almost anything on the plane as long as you have a doctor's note describing the medical need. Maybe call the airport and ask?
As for Chef Mickey's/Garden Grill, Chef Mickey's is a lot of fun but you get much more character interaction at Garden Grill. The characters came around two or three times during our dinner. CM is Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy and Donald. GG is Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale. We also really enjoy Tusker House breakfast at AK which is Mickey, Goofy, Donald and Daisy.
Okay. . .I am done writing a novel on your thread! Hope it helps!

It's been cold, windy and rainy for six straight days now, kids are climbing the walls (quite literally), my DH has been working his tail off and not getting home late, and random things around the house are breaking. Yes, we officially have a case of the winter blahs around here. MUST start thinking more about Disney and warm weather!! :goodvibes
One of the things that broke is my camera. Well, didn't exactly break, but it's not keeping a charge at ALL -- even with new batteries. So my mom had an extra one that they aren't using anymore. I think this is the one I'll use for our trip, so I'm going to practice taking pics in the meantime...so you might see some random photos on here from time to time. Just me practicing! :rolleyes1

Thanks all ---
I'm just so happy to have a camera to use that isn't fuzzy or dead batteries! I have low standards for pics too as long as everybody is in it and nobody has their eyes closed, it's a success! :)
Our countdown is 5 weeks.... 5 weeks!?!? Boy that has come fast. Of course I'm so excited for the folks that are going in March (Miranda, Shannon, Jennifer and Amber!!!) :cool1: Okay, I just found Mary's --- but had missed it originally! Anybody else I'm missing in March? I want to make sure I'm subbed!
Just spoke with somebody at GKTW and they gave me two options for getting Noah's cream down there -one in Kissimmee and one in Orlando-- Phew! That will lower my stress level and will allow me to not have to travel with his cream! :yay:
Lastly on the medical front. Our next bump down in dose started today. The doctor was reluctant to do it at first, since Noah's in such a good place right now, but this will ensure he's at a steady dose (he was alternating dosages due to pill strength availability) for the trip. After today, we will hold steady -- hopefully to allow his system to remain steady until after the trip. Praying his brain stays steady and out of seizure activity!;)
Blessings,
Beth
PS -- a little comic relief: I was talking to my friend the other day about how I'll be making a lot of Noah's meals ahead and freezing them. Making a meal for Noah can take upwards of 30-45 min per serving. (depending on the meal) So it'll probably take me a couple of days to make the meals for the trip. Then she asked me if they didn't let me on with the cooler, would I allow them to check it? All we could think of was the scene in "Meet the Parents".....
And the only way that I would ever let go of my bag would be if you came over here right now and tried to pry it from my dead, lifeless fingers, okay? If you can get it from my kung-fu grip then you can come and have it, okay?
Now you all know I wouldn't go as far as him, but couldn't you see the headline's now? "Crazy Keto Mom arrested at airport on her Son's Wish Trip. Family decides to go on without her!" :rotfl2:

Sending good thoughts and prayers that the change in dose goes smoothly and for no seizure activity!
Loved the airport visual and after all the work you put in I don't think that would be going too far! :lmao:
I think you may have some things to practice taking photos of arriving in your mailbox the next few weeks. ;)
Happy belated birthday John!

I think you may have some things to practice taking photos of arriving in your mailbox the next few weeks. ;)
Can't wait to start seeing your Big Gives!!!!
Two reasons for this post -
1. To practice mulit=quoting
and 2. To say that yes, we got a PM a few weeks ago asking if we wanted to be included in the "BIG GIVE"!! :yay:pixiedust: I'm sorry if I'm doing this wrong -- I didn't know if I should write about it now or later, but we are so honored and humbled by this. I haven't told the kids much about it because I want them to be surprised. So hopefully, Jen, you will see some good pictures --- or else I'll have Photographer "Auntie" come over and save the day! ;)
Blessings to you and yours today,

We were so happy today to receive our first BIG GIVE package!!:banana::banana::banana:
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%201/package1.jpg
It was from Ellen of NY (Ellenbenny on the boards)
The kids went crazy and limited what school we could do the rest of the day, but it was sooo worth it!! I did learn some lessons about opening Big Give packages that I will put to use next time:
1. Make sure kids are dressed! :scared1: (It's snowing sleeting today, so the boys were still in their PJ bottoms!)
2. Make sure kids have clean faces :sad2: (Ella had SpaghettiO's for lunch and it is quite obvious in the pics!)
3. Keep practicing with Camera! :confused3 (Some of the pics had an angellic quality about them -- and it's not the kids!;))
So Ellen sent an AMAZING box packed full! There were coordinating Spongebob shirts for the boys.....
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%201/boysspongebob.jpg
An adorable Princess Shirt for Ella....
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%201/ellasshirt.jpg
And a PERFECT "Grinch" dress (which she'll probably use as a long shirt with leggings!) for Abby! Abby (by far our picky one), LOVED it!!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
In addition, she sent this COOL totebag loaded with coloring books, sketchbooks, pencils, markers, crayons, stickers...the works!

Noah LOVED the Dalmatian stickers and insisted on putting them all on his pirate book!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%201/Noahdalmatian.jpg
The kids loved everything and proceeded to do a "conga train" around the house......:sad2:

Ellen, your creations were amazing -- thank you. And thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness! We are all on :cloud9:.

I am so glad that everything fit and that the kids liked everything!! The buttons on Abby's dress have a lot of room to move if you want to shorten or lengthen the straps (assuming you or someone you know can sew on a button:). Also room for a top underneath and leggings would look great!! I had Abby in mind with the Art Caddy, but didn't want to specify and cause any trouble amongst the kids.
I hope that your family has an amazing trip!

Ellen, that is the most beautiful art caddy ever -- what a creative idea! I know I say it a lot that I didn't get the artistic genes, but it really is true -- they skipped over me and went straight to Abby! She will get lot s of use out of it!! :lovestruc

Melissa you didn't see the 20+ photos that had to be deleted because of the moving "angels"!?! I'm going to have my sister look at my settings this weekend, but I think it has something to do with the lighting in our kitchen? It makes everybody appear like they are in clouds or something. :confused3
Thanks for the encouragement though! Cameras and me just don't get along -- we bring out the worst in each other. Brian laughs that I have gone through WAY too many cameras and canopeners since we've been married. Random, I know!! ;)

Try telling the camera to use the flash (instead of letting it decide if it needs one on "auto flash"). Sometimes shooting indoors is bright enough for no flash, but looks better with one.

Thanks for all the sweet thoughts, guys! Ella is hilarious these days and does have quite the collection of expressions....none of which is a typical smile! :) So the pics from the trip should be pretty funny!:rotfl:
I've learned that perseverance pays off! We were able to get a breakfast Chef Mickey's res!! :mickeyjum He really wanted to eat with Mickey! I was still flipping back and forth about the Garden Grill since it sounds so good, but with Noah's diet, it's probably best that it's a buffet. That way everybody can get their own food and have it on their own plate, rather than having food sitting out family style on the table -- all of which he can't eat...KWIM?

Hi, Kelly --- yes there is always stress over Noah's meals. I try to make something that either resembles what the others are having, or something that is a favorite of his, esp if the others are having something "good". But it doesn't work all the time! I am just so grateful that he has been VERY compliant so far.:worship:
And the other kids have really sacrificed for him, too. We don't keep the sweets in the house like we used to. We still try to take them out for special treats individually (DD, McDs, etc.), but it has been amazing how much they don't complain about the changes. They were all feeding some horses candy canes the other day and the woman allowed them to have one if they wanted. They paused, looked at me, then said no thankyou....with NO COMPLAINING! I was so proud of them! I'm not sure it will last forever, but for now I am grateful!

So we must be getting close....because our dates are now on the touringplans webpage! :cool1:
But after looking at it, I'm thinking about changing some of our plans. The crowd # is 9 :scared1: for every day we're there -- so far. When we were asked what dates was best, we said March, April or May. Then when we got our dates, we realized that it was the week after Easter....OOPS! Oh, well. But since it's going to be crowded, we will probably follow the advice of the touringplans guy as far as which parks to visit when.
Revised schedule:
Arrive Wed 4/7 -- get settled in, explore GKTW, maybe hit DTD sometime
Thurs 4/8 - Universal Studios and or IOA , GKTW Christmas party at night
Fri 4/9 - Animal Kingdom in AM; Epcot in PM
Sat 4/10 - DHS, more Epcot if my hubby hasn't had his fill ;) or GKTW at night
Sun 4/11 - Seaworld, GKTW Candyland at night?
Mon 4/12 - breakfast at Chef Mickey's, followed by a full day at MK
Tues 4/13 - departure day :sad1: pack, spend more time at GKTW, maybe DTD, more universal if we need it, or do something in Kissimmee
Hopefully it will give us enough breaks between the full days and the short days, give us enough time to explore GKTW, and give us enough flexibility to go with the flow! Also, due to the high volume of people, I've noticed that the parks are open quite late while we are there! (MK fireworks don't happen until 10pm!! YIKES! I might be sleeping through them....let alone the kids!!)
BEAUTY SIDENOTES:
:Pinkbounc:Pinkbounc:Pinkbounc The girls and I have made hair appointments for the week before we go. This in and of itself isn't a big deal (Although it is Ella's first REAL haircut), but this will be the second time that Abby has donated her hair to Locks for Love!! :lovestruc The 1st time it really was my idea and we both donated our hair (although it took me probably a year longer to grow it long enough-- LOL!). This time it's more special to me because it's something she's done on her own accord. She really wanted it to get a bit longer so she could still have longer hair after the 10" is gone, but she also wants to do it before our trip! So, off with her hair!!! :goodvibes
Secondly, my birthday is the day before we leave.....something tells me it will be spent PACKING!! ;) My sister's birthday is in 2 weeks. So we decided that we would celebrate them both by giving each other pedicures a few days before we go. :woohoo::woohoo: (Discussing this, I had to promise the girls I would give them at home pedicures!)
So between hair and nails, the BBB might happen before we even get there! ;)
That's all for now -- just getting excited! :yay:

Aw man! That stinks on the crowds. But I definitely think it is a good idea to follow TP!
Of course, you will have the button and the GAC, which will help you tremendously with lines...but the crowds affect parades and food lines, too.
Revised schedule:
Arrive Wed 4/7 -- get settled in, explore GKTW, maybe hit DTD sometime
What time do you get there?? Do I know that? DTD is a great idea! :)
Thurs 4/8 - Universal Studios and or IOA , GKTW Christmas party at night
Good plan! :)
Fri 4/9 - Animal Kingdom in AM; Epcot in PM
Hard thing with AK is hitting the shows. Do you know which shows you want to see? Since you have the button, it seems like it is harder to get the shows in (they seem to schedule them so it is hard to go straight from one to another).
Check this website for show times:
http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/
They will be updated the week before you go. :)
If you want to see both Lion King and Nemo (which I highly recommend both!)...then I would see the first show of Lion King and then the 2nd show of Nemo. Or you can do it vice versa...but it is pretty easy to fit everything else in once you get the main shows you want to see. Otherwise you end up being "stuck" at the AK until late in the afternoon seeing shows - or you miss them to head to Epcot.
There may be more shows since you will be there during a busy time...but I am not sure about that.
Sat 4/10 - DHS, more Epcot if my hubby hasn't had his fill ;) or GKTW at night
Awesome! Same thing on the shows here, too. Depending on how many you want to see. :)
Sun 4/11 - Seaworld, GKTW Candyland at night?
Love Sea World! :)
Mon 4/12 - breakfast at Chef Mickey's, followed by a full day at MK
Yeah!!!!
Tues 4/13 - departure day :sad1: pack, spend more time at GKTW, maybe DTD, more universal if we need it, or do something in Kissimmee
Aw! Last day. :(
My only reservation is that MK is at the end of you stay...in some ways that it good...because you end your trip at one very magical place...but if the weather looks questionable that day, you may want to change your schedule on the fly...I would hate to have bad weather on the one day you are doing MK (I assume MK is the park you are most interested in?) You could keep your Chef Mickey's ressie either way, though.
YIKES! Yeah...you will have extra hours in the park, too...if you want them.

Your plans look great! My only advice is to not be too 'locked in' on your itinerary. Between the rain during our trip, the cold / wind, Aidan getting sick, etc., most of our plans went out the window. For instance, we never got to Universal Studios or Epcot. We LOVED Islands of Adventure! Seuss Landing was great for all the kids, and we got to see a baby veloceraptor hatch in Jurassic Park! Magic Kingdom was definitely an all day park. When Aidan started getting sick, we threw out all park plans for the day and headed to Cocoa Beach. The boys loved just playing in the sand, looking for seashells, and running from the water (it was cold). We had also worked hard to get reservations at 'Ohana, but then we cancelled those because the boys were exhausted after a full day at Magic Kingdom. I guess all I'm saying is that having a plan is great, but as with all things in our lives, you still have to just go with the flow somewhat.
Although, I'm really one to talk. If you look at my PTR, I had everything perfectly scheduled for the entire trip. Somebody else had other plans though.

Okay, I tried to quote a quote, but it didn't work? :confused3
So I'm going to try to follow the order of your comments/questions?
Wed - our flight gets in at 10am, if all goes well.
Thurs -
Fri - the AK thing -- I was thinking of hitting just one of the shows...maybe Nemo? We saw Lion King several years ago. Noah and Ella were babies and too young to remember, though. I thought it was AMAZING -- but I feel like we'll probably only hit one of the shows...prob the one that works best into the schedule. We totally want to do EE since Abby's tall enough now (Noah too, actually!) and the safari. We don't want to spend too much time there though -- hopefully spend more time at Epcot that day.
Sat - I'll definitely check out the schedule as the kids are excited about a lot of the shows there! Star Wars Jedi Training and Indiana Jones are MUST catch!!
Sun - this will be our back up of MK day, maybe? You're right about not wanting it to be rainy on MK day...that would be a bummer...esp because I really want to see the fireworks! :)
Mon - whatever's left -- Sea world or MK??? Weather???
thanks so much for your comments -- am I missing something here? I don't want to plan too much, but I want a game plan to start, which can change as time and ENERGY allows. Fortunately we'll have a stroller for the two little guys in case they get tired. Noah's been better since we've dropped his meds a bit, but he still tires easily. We're going to try to take is SLOW and just have a handful of "must dos" at each park -with everything else "gravy"- that way we won't be disappointed, and might be pleasantly surprised some days! ;)
I've already started packing -- can you believe that? Nothing major, but taking tallies of what we have (bathing suits, sunglasses, sandals, sweatshirts, etc.) Since I spent most of last summer in the hospital with Noah, I've been going through the kids summer clothes and I don't even recognize some of them!

It's so much easier to pack when you don't currently need the clothes you have to pack isn't it? The month is going to fly:goodvibes
And I don't think you can 'plan' too much.....................as long as you are flexible. Without them you'd really be roaming around aimlessly and that is definately not a good plan

Was this part in response to my post? If so, no you aren't missing anything. I think your plans are great! And I definitely think you need to have a plan! I just know that there are some people who tend to get stressed if things don't go exactly according to plans. I was one of those people before Aidan came into our lives. :rotfl: And when the weather and illness interfered with our florida plans, it took a minute for my mind to readjust. My post was really more of a generic tip to anybody reading than directly to you. I'm sorry if I came across wrong.

Plans look good to me. I'm starting out with something for every day just because I hate waking up and spending valuable time going should we do this? or that? what about??? But I am trying to remind myself that it's okay to scrap the plan if needed. (if we even have the choice!)
My sub to Touringplans.com ended with the new year and I haven't taken the time to get a new book since we're pretty much all planned out. Would you mind checking the dates for Phoebe's trip if you have time? I'm curious if they've changed since December. We're going to be at parks on 4/17-23. Thanks!

Your plans look great. I like that you have a back up mk day. That is the one park that got rained out our trip in 08 and I kid you not I called my mom and cried:rotfl2: We only went to MK and Epcot and were only there for like 3 days. Oy I was so heartbroken. But it was in the summer not the spring. ;)

Miranda,
It actually was sort of in response to Maroo's post, but honestly I had started the post, then life happened in the form of kids, then returned and finished it. By the time I posted, you had posted too -- and it sort of fit, but I in no way took it wrong or anything --- and I really appreciate all the advice -- thank you! I just hate that intonations and sarcasm don't come across on the boards...in emails and such, I sound a whole lot more serious than I actually am!
As far as the planning goes, I tend to go with the flow and can change midstream (Noah's epilepsy has certainly forced my hand on this!). I'm also preparing myself for scraping a day if we have to -- based on energy levels. That said, I totally am one of those people that HAVE to at least have a plan. My hubby is NOT like this at all -- he can fly by the seat of his pants and prefers to do so! Makes date nights interesting!! :rotfl2:

Melissa,
I don't have a sub for touring plans, but they update the webpage and allow you to see the next month or so for free. Right now they are up to April 11th I think, so your trip dates are almost there! :woohoo: There also might be somebody that has a current sub that could look it up ahead of time?
Gotta run -- off to co-op today. The kids love it, but the moms? Well, let's just say that I love Friday afternoons! ;)

Your trip will be here before you know it!
I have never been on a Wish trip but my advice to friends planning trips is always figure out the stuff that is a priority to you and plan to do that and anything else that fits in is a bonus. My other advice is to vary between short park days and long park days so everyone gets the down time they need whether at the resort, pool, in the room, etc.
Good luck planning!

Hi, All!
First off I just want to thank all of you for sharing in the excitement of this trip. It is so much fun to get to "know" all of you, your families, your experiences, etc. It makes it even more special!
Also making the trip more special was the amazingly generous BIG GIVE package we got today from Lynn (cajunfan)!!! When they say "BIG GIVE"...they aren't kidding! THANK YOU LYNN!!!

http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%204/package.jpg
It was like Christmas in March...complete with the wrapping paper! The kids were totally excited of course and Daddy was even home to watch this one!
There was something for everyone --- even my mother (aka Nanni) and my sister (aka Auntie)! They weren't here today, but I told them they was something here for them and they were so touched and honored to be included!! :lovestruc x 8!!!

First off ---- matching WISH SHIRTS!!! We absolutely love them!!

They all fit great, Lynn. Thank you! Even my 6'11" hubby's fits GREAT! I thought I had taken a pic of him in his, but it wasn't on the upload...:confused3 But no worries about having to get a different shirt -- it fits perfectly! :thumbsup2
Then, extra shirts for the Boys that they absolutely LOVE. I had to force them to take them off....straight to the luggage!! ;) John's says "Greetings from the NUT HOUSE" (w/ Chip and Dale) and Noah's says "You! Off my planet!" (w/Buzz Lightyear). Fits both their sizes and personalities! ;)

Next up -- GOODIES GALORE!
I'm talking tatoos, glow bracelets, pens, pencils, velvet doodle sets, activity pads, notebooks, playing cards, snack and lunch bags....all with their favorite characters!
We thank you --- and the other people who will be flying with us thank you...maybe there's a chance our kids will stay busy (and quiet) on the plane!! Here's to hoping at least!

And the HIGHLIGHT of the GOODIES for the kids......
PARATROOPERS!! (in the form of bunnies and ducks and such!)
They spent the better part of an hour playing with them in our front hall, which served as a perfect "jump zone"!

I had more pics but had maxed out my limit.... but you get the idea --- up....jump....down....back up again!
Lynn, your generosity, your thoughtfulness, and the care that went into the package.....A whole hearted THANK YOU from the whole clan!!!

Hurray for an awesome Big Give from Lynn! She spoiled us too! The kids look like they enjoyed it. And 6'11??? Wow.
Oh, I forgot to comment on Locks of Love! They are a great organization and one that is pretty easy to give to. I was so excited to learn about them when Phoebe had super long hair because she is often the recipient of kindness from strangers and it felt good to have her give something back. She doesn't care about her hair and it's so doggone gorgeous! I've been growing it out again and think we are getting close to another donation. Anyway, good for you guys for supporting a great cause!

This is so funny! My now 16 year old has ALWAYS loved those paratroopers. I was laughing out loud at this and he asked what was so funny. I told him, his comment was..."I don't care how old you are, those will always be AWESOME!" So maybe I will have to start sending some for the adults too! Except I think we will tire of gonig up and down the stairs so much a lot faster than the kids!
Glad you guys enjoyed everything, and especially glad you DH's shirt fit...it just looked short to me.

Thank you to all for following along with our plans. WE can't believe it's just over 3 weeks --- woohoo is right!!! :woohoo:
Among the things I was able to check off this weekend:
**Found keto friendly sunscreen (some of them have sugar, sugar alcohols or other carbs in them -- can you believe THAT?!?)
**found decent sandals for the kids and me
**bought an extra gram scale (I'd be toast if Noah's scale broke and I've been meaning to buy one for a while. This was a good forced opportunity!)
**cleaned out all old summer clothes that did not fit! (LOTS for Ella and John who have both grown a lot in the past year!)
On tap for this week:
** get medical letter to travel with Noah's meds and foods
** buy new rechargable batteries and a super duper memory stick to hold gobs of photos!
** start printing out Noah's recipes and organizing into a binder. I usually depend on the using the online calculator for his meals, but I'm pretty sure there is no internet access in the villas -- RIGHT? I'm also considering coming up with my own excel based program for doing it and it shouldn't take too long, considering Noah's meals aren't too varied, but also wondering if this is a good use of my time or not, KWIM?
But the to do lists are growing....
And my new goal is to be packed by Easter, which is 3 days before we leave...OKAY YOU CAN ALL START LAUGHING NOW at this one!!!
:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl::laughing:

Ooh, ooh, ooh! I know the answer to this one! :woohoo: From the GKTW Village Guide:
"Complimentary internet access is available from your personal laptop:
* Via WiFi which is available within the House of Hearts, Amberville,
and on the Avenue of Angels
* Via a high-speed direct connection in the House of Hearts Family Room
* Via dial-up in your villa."
(Sign on information is in the Village Guide as well.)
Now, don't laugh at me here as I'm a little technologically challenged, but they mentioned MiFi being available at orientation. I don't know what this is, but they said something about being able to get it for 3 days at a time. Just thought I'd mention it in case it helps.

Wouldn't dream of laughing at you -- I'm the tech challenged photographer, remember!!
That DOES really really help! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 I don't care if it's dialup, being able to access the online recipe calculator will allow me to be more flexible....i.e. if I can't find the particular brand of something we use at the Walmart there, I could go online to change it to the brand name that I get while down there.
I promised myself I'd print out the ones we use all the time anyhow, since what would happen if we lost power or our internet went down even here at home?!? I was much better about printing out recipes when we started the diet, but I've gotten more lax over time and just lug the laptop over to the scale! It's a recipe for disaster -- say if something ever got spilled on the laptop :scared1: or again, if we lost power for a while. This and buying a backup scale have been on my to do list for ages, and the trip is just making me get my butt in gear! :thumbsup2
THANKS FOR the info!!!!

Thanks, Melissa!
I forgot to add the following 2 things to my to do list:
** Find somebody to watch our mutts/our house! Our regular babysitter that would've done the dogs too is out of town that week. :scared1: Can't believe I haven't mentioned "dumb and dumber" before. Here's a pic. As you can see they are GREAT with the kids...but borderline psychotic when a new person comes around!!!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Misc%20photos/ellaonmiles.jpg
** And contact Disney about Noah's foods! How could I actually forget about putting that on my "to do" list as it's all I've been able to think about since we got our dates! Crazy mom! :rotfl2: Well, I did that yesterday and they were EXTREMELY helpful. The big bummer is that I cannot heat up his meals at the dining venues. (against health codes, I assume). So I can either use the microwave near first aid stations, bring cold meals/sandwiches, or try to order something off the menu and bring my portable scale. Not sure what option I'm going to use, but the individual chef's are contacting me. They've already given me the nutritional info on the hot dogs they use parkwide, which is extremely helpful since I can make an easy hot dog meal by ordering the hot dog plain, measuring it, and then just bringing the rest of the meal -- all of which are cold items (special ketchup, mayo, ranch dressing, chips). That would work. So I have faith that it will all come together!
I was just so amazed at so helpful they have been so far. I got 4-5 emails from them in one afternoon! WOW
Also wanted to post a picture of "Nanni" trying on her T-shirt!!!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Misc%20photos/nanninoahella.jpg
She loved it and was so touched to be included. Thanks, Lynn!
"Auntie" -- even though they have other Aunties, Auntie Courtney is just known as "Auntie". She's the original, first to meet them and never misses a birthday or special event. ;) -- Well Auntie is back in Boston until the trip, so she won't get hers until Easter. But she was so happy to hear about being included too! :yay:
In order to complete the cast of characters, here's the info:
My mom -- aka "Nanni" -- a grandmother who can match the kids in energy level! :thumbsup2 She still works full time and is never far from her cell phone, which usually is work calling. We are hoping it "mysteriously stops working" for the trip! ;)
My sister -- aka "Auntie" -- 3 years younger than me and a WHOLE lot more fashionable! :lmao: We have been growing closer and closer together with each passing year. :lovestruc We talk several times a week and she would do anything for any of us. She was able to witness both boys being born, but the girls just came too fast to make it down from Boston!! She is also my fashionista and I hardly buy any clothes without taking her with me!
Here's a picture of me with my mom and sister, taken around Christmas. Court and I gave my mom a girls day for Christmas -- lunch and tickets to "Wicked!". It was absolutely amazing and exceeded my expectations. Not to mention, it was fun to hang out with my mother and sister all day --- without the kids!! ;)
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Misc%20photos/Wicked.jpg
So NOW the CAST is complete!!!
One more picture today, taken of the girls at Ella's friend's birthday party this weekend. The DAD painted the girls faces -- and did such a good job!! So I had to post it before I all got washed off!!

Just wanted to chime and say I think it is great that you both are donating to Locks of Love. My youngest (now 23) has done this 3 times in the last 6 or 7 years and it is just such an awesome feeling for her to be able to give something.
Sounds like your trip is taking shape. I love all of the Big Give shirts, outfits, and pixie dust. I am glad that the chefs are helping you out with Noah's food. We took DGD last October (who has milk allergies) and they were fantastic for us. Nothing near as important as Noah's diet, but still, just giving them props for being so helpful and accomodating.
I am following your PTR even though I don't often comment.
BTW - I received your little "thank you" note. What a special thought to send it. It made my day!!

Hi Anita!
I should clarify -- I'm not donating this time, just Abby. We both donated the last time, but something about turning 35 next month has made everything SLOW down -- including my hair growth! I used to be able to grow it out QUICK -- but no longer! :guilty:

Oh no. NO Disney nightmares allowed;) Only Disney Dreams:cloud9: Hopefully tonight will be nothing but sweet dreams:)
Im so glad the chefs are going to help you with Noah's meals.
I love donating to locks of love. Sierra has done it a few times. Only now the new place cut her hair so short its going to be a very long time till she can do it again. So nice of you all to do that.

I should clarify -- I'm not donating this time, just Abby.
Also, I had my first dream about the trip last night and I don't think it was that original --- we missed the plane!! :scared1: Here's to hoping THAT doesn't happen!
Ahhh...I guess I missed that part. I am the same way...mine seems to grow so much slower now that I am "older". Ha!
You can say NO but I have a favor...can I post Ella's picture with the outfit on on my facebook album? I try to keep a running album of all the things I have made and would love to include that:love:. (If not, no problem...I understand that some people don't like their kiddos pics posted). If not, I can just post the picture of the outfit I took before sending it. It looked so cute on her.
And NO more nightmares....It is going to be a fantastic week for all of you.
We went in October for the first time in 15 yrs and took our granddaughters. It was the time of our life. Can't wait till we get to go back (probably in a couple years when DGD2 will actually be old enough to remember it).

Well I have to say the kids are getting increasingly more excited every time our Mail Carrier pulls into the driveway! :) They must've let on to the dogs too because Miles wanted to jump in her truck! (He's thoroughly crazy.. so crazy that we still haven't found a taker for him while we're away!)
Anyhow, this package was from Melissa (pixeegrl) !!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%205/package.jpg
Inside was an assortment for all! I'll start with the one that requires the most explanation:
Abby, you might have guessed, is my picky one when it comes to clothes. I hardly ever buy any clothes for her unless she is there. In fairness to her, she really just knows what she likes and spends hours designing outfits with a little design set she got for Christmas.
Well, the dress that Melissa made for her is BEAUTIFUL and is soooo "Abby"!! :lovestruc Melissa, you did such an amazing job -- THANK YOU!! The pictures honestly don't do it justice. The Alice in Wonderland fabric is gorgeous and oh, so perfect -- the fabric on the side has all sorts of "Wonderland" phrases, and Abby's favorite part (Alice with the Cheshire cat :ccat:), is on the.......FRONT. Well, it's supposed to be at least!!! Now enter Abby's take -- don't get me wrong -- SHE LOVES IT!!! The colors and style fit her to a T and she cannot wait to wear it. But she is dead set on wearing it with the bow on the front, and the Alice scene on the back! She just really thinks it's meant to be worn that way!! And I'm just so happy that she loves it so much, so I'm not going to argue!!! Tune in later to discover what she decides when she wears it in Florida, but for now.......

and a closeup of the scene
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%205/alicecheshire.jpg
Also gorgeous was Ella's Tinkerbell top. Melissa, I have a pair of purple capri leggings that will look soooo good with this and I tried to find them for the pic, but Alas, they are lost somewhere in the MOUNTAINS of laundry around this house! Once I find them, they will match PERFECTLY!
Yet again, Ella continues to show some interesting expressions!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%205/ellatink.jpg
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%205/ellacheeks.jpg
She also sent the girls all sorts of goodies - stamps, lanyards, spinning tops, and a princess puzzle that Ella has yet to relinquish!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%205/ellagoodies.jpg
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%205/abbygoodies.jpg
And then come the boys! She sent them Pirate goody bags and lots of LOOT -- telescopes (a huge hit), gold coins, gliders, lanyards, spinning tops and magic towels that we are all fascinated by!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%205/goodybags.jpg

http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%205/goodies.jpg
And you know my kids...it's a good thing school was over for today because it became a pirate's haven around here.......pirate: And what's to plunder? Well our sister's prized new puzzle, of course! :sad2:
Thank you, THANK YOU, Melissa! Everything was just perfect!!!
Blessings to you and yours,

Fun package! I love that Abby has her own sense of style! I made an outfit using that same pattern and the little girl also insisted on wearing it backwards! It has a picture on both sides and she liked the one on the back better then the front! LOL! Thank goodness you can't really tell with them that they are on backwards!

Yes, I cannot believe how GENEROUS and TALENTED the BIG GIVERS are! It was so special to see how excited the kids got and it will be so special to wear them on the trip. John said several times...."did she MAKE these? wow, cool!" I think he's really surprised because his mom struggles to sew on Daisy patches and buttons!:laughing:

And the boys look like they are enjoying their loot too! I know John is at an age where his likes are hit or miss (some things will be too babyish and some too grown up), so it is good to see him enjoying it.

Today was a CRAZY MAIL DAY --- in an AMAZINGLY AMAZING sort of way!!!
:wizard::wizard:
Not one .........but TWO Big Give packages - one from Jennifer (scouthawkk) and one from Dania (DisneyCP2002)
and our letter from GKTW!!! :yay: WOW WOW WOW!!!
The kids and I are still REELING from all the excitement!:banana::banana::banana::banana:
I'm overwhelmed with all the BIG GIVErs....you truly must have extra big loving hearts. Words can't really express how blessed you have made our family feel! :grouphug:
Reading the letter from GKTW had me just in tears -- this is really going to happen....AND SOON! It's still so surreal. :goodvibes Something about having Noah's name written on that packet just made me get all sentimental.
Don't mind me, today. Just feeling very teary and emotional....in a very, very good way. :lovestruc
Okay, I promise pics tonight!!!

All,
I am still overwhelmed with the love and generosity that has been shown to us. My kids remarked today that we have "two new friends in Maryland and Texas". (Did I mention ever that I'm teaching US Geography at our Co-op? So the kids are always interested in where the package is from!)
Well, I'm going to try to capture all of today's excitement in one post. Here goes....
The first package was from Kissimmee, FL!! It was our GKTW welcome packet! Noah was thrilled to get mail of his own! And me, well you know how I felt -- knowing that our dream trip is almost upon us was too much to not shed a few tears!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8002.jpg
The 1st BIG GIVE package was from Jennifer (aka "scouthawkk"):
Note to self: Don't have kids wearing reflector clothing with the flash!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8007.jpg
Inside was a lovely note and two packages for the girls....
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8011.jpg
Ella's present was the MOST beautiful Minnie-inspired twirl dress!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8012.jpg
She immediately knew what to do!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8014.jpg
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8018.jpg
Not sure how clear you can see it, but the little girl embroidered on the dress is wearing mouse ears, has a green dress with matching green balloon and has blond hair and blue eyes like somebody else I know!!!
Abby's outfit was equally amazing!! Her Hannah Montana rocking it outfit has three pieces which coordinate PERFECTLY -- embroidered T-shirt, pleated skirt, and matching short vest! Very Hannah! Abby, AGAIN, was THRILLED!!!
(1st pic is better of Abby, 2nd is better of the outfit - though I still don't think the picture does it justice!! It is soooo cool! )
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8022.jpg
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8024.jpg
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8020.jpg
Abby was particularly excited when she noticed that the embroidered girl was wearing the same outfit and playing guitar! I'm talking coordinated to a T -- guitar, leggings are in the purple pattern, the dress and shoes are in the plaid....and of course, she is BLOND like somebody I know! Abby called it "totally cool" and thinks it might be perfect for DHS!
Jennifer, the dress and outfit are both gorgeous and the girls were so thrilled and felt so special getting them. That alone warms a mom's heart....not to mention the details you incorporated that meant so much to me!! Thank you from ALL the girls...big and small!
*******************************************
The other BIG GIVE package we received today was from Dania (DisneyCP2002)
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8028.jpg
Inside were FOUR very cool pixie dust bags!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8036.jpg
Each bag had a different REALLY cool design on it -- similar to a splatter painting with awesome colors! They were each labeled and loaded with goodies!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8041.jpg
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8042.jpg
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8047.jpg
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8063.jpg
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/Big%20Give%207-8/BIGGIVE7-8052.jpg
Each bag had a photo album (perfect!), a magic towel (still can't wait to see what these are!), playing cards, character stickers, and an activity or joke book which will be AIRPLANE GOODIES!!
However, you guys are probably starting to understand my kids -- they didn't want to wait! I did convince noah and Ella to hold off on their activity books since they are "magic" books and I didn't want them to lose the special pencil/markers! Not to mention -- I wanted to save them for maximum usage on the plane! However, no such luck with the joke books. I've been hearing sponge bob jokes for the better part of the afternoon. Believe me, I was happy when Brian came home -- his turn!
Dania, thank you so much for all the pixie dust you sent -- it worked it's magic here and will continue to during our trip! The bags are super cute too and will definitely come in handy! THANK YOU!
I am just blown away by the BIG GIVE!!! Thank you, thank you for giving of yourselves for families like ours. We will never forget such love and generosity!!!
Blessings,
ellenbenny

Today ANOTHER BIG GIVE package arrived....WOW WOW WOW!!!!!
This package was from an unnamed "Fairy Goodmother" in Modesto, CA. Ideas, anyone?? ;)
The kids are going to have withdrawl from opening all these packages!!

It was around now that Noah got grumpy over something -- who knows what. He woke up on the wrong side of the bed today and is hasn't improved. :headache:
Inside were two BEAUTIFUL shirts for the boys -- here's a closeup of John's -- they are embroidered and the color looks great on the boys....

http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/big%20give%209/biggive9025.jpg
And here's the grumpster....
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/big%20give%209/biggive9016.jpg
Now the girls outfits -- a dress for Ella and coordinating capris and a top for Abby! In addition, 2 gorgeous hairbows that the girls were ooohing and ahhhing over. The girls were soooo happy! They are really excited about feeding the dolphins on our trip, so they loved the "theme" of the outfits!
http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/thegilpins/big%20give%209/biggive9007.jpg

I tried to get a pic of all four, but Noah was having no part of this by this point. :guilty:
They'll be another chance when we are actually AT Seaworld in less than 3 weeks!! :yay:
Fairy Goodmother, THANK YOU from the bottoms of our hearts. We are feeling truly amazed and blessed -- again. I know you guys might think I'm sounding like a broken record, but we are just so touched by each and every gift. Thank you thank you thank you. I can't believe that I will hardly have to pack any clothes for the trip other than BIG GIVE gifts!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH BIG GIVE !!!!:love:

The embroidery is soooo beautiful!! Seeing all the beautiful creations makes me think I wish I had paid more attention to my mom's sewing lessons. Maybe someday we can have a repeat lesson!!
A "Sea World couture line" by "FGM". I love it. I'll spread the word about it at sea world so when they see you guys, they'll think Phoebe and Tessa are "en vogue"!! ;)
Thank you so much guys for getting excited with us. We are really getting excited now!!! :yay: The chef's at Disney are starting to contact me to see if there is anything they can do to help with Noah's diet. That is amazing. What a wonderful organization! I mean, they don't have to do anything -- they could just say, well just bring his own food that doesn't have to be heated, or don't come at all! But instead they are working with us individually to keep Noah safe and healthy and help him have the best time possible on this trip. That is all a mom can ask for.

Loving all of the BIG GIVE outfits you have received! They REALLY are a great group of people! We all converse daily and there is a bond that seems to grow (not just sewing, but we share everything with each other). Its AWESOME to be a part of it and I am so blessed to be able to be a tiny part of it. Each one of them that I have come to "know", have huge loving hearts. I hope ya'll have a fantastic trip to Disney. Not too much longer!
Just had to add....Ella's expressions make me giggle every time.

Shannon,
I just happened to be sitting here at the computer.... again procrastinating going running. I try to do it before everybody gets up, but I've been soooo tired in the AMs recently. It's definitely going to be painful when I have to squeeze into some summer clothes (let alone a bathing suit) in a few weeks! :scared1:
Speaking of.....16 DAYS!!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:
(with a little dose of  -- better get my act together!)

Okay, since we will hopefully be on our way 2 weeks from today, I'm starting to feel the crunch -- and the excitement is growing too!!
Thank you guys sooo much for being with me on this planning thing --- could not have done it without you!!! ;) You are INVALUABLE!!!
I've been flying through random "to do" things...
-- got medical letter for transporting food :thumbsup2
-- contacted TSA to ensure we are jumping through proper hoops :thumbsup2
-- got my backup scale and it's very portable and small -- perfect! :thumbsup2
-- called the Walmart near GKTW and found that they have several "brand name" items that Noah needs --- YAY! Less to pack! :thumbsup2
-- have spoken with chefs from DHS (super helpful with tons of info!), Universal (contacted me TWICE) and Seaworld (did research, called me back, and SUPER nice!). I've confirmed their policies for bringing food in, heating up, and nutritional info. They have all been EXTREMELY helpful. Some places Noah will be able to eat park food (after weighing) -- plus what I bring to supplement to make the meal ketogenic. Other places we will just heat up his food at baby care stations and other places we will just bring food that doesn't require heating. Phew! :thumbsup2
-- got somebody to watch the house and the dogs!! :dogdance::dogdance: :thumbsup2
Phew! It really is coming together, though I'm sure the inevitable problems will happen -- I'm just praying I can handle it calmly and not FREAK OUT as I've been known to do.
Still have to:
-- get memory sticks for the camera!
-- find the 2 "missing" rolling suitcases my mom was going to let us borrow. They are nowhere to be found! :headache:
-- file our state taxes (since we're coming home late on the 13th, not sure that's going to be on our mind the day after we get back!!)
-- lose 15 pounds. Here's to hoping, right? Can I still call it "baby fat" if my baby is 3?
-- take a whole day off from planning and packing to celebrate Resurrection Sunday on APRIL 4th!!!
And I saved the most exciting news for last.....
Noah's WISH GRANTERS are coming this SUNDAY to drop off our tickets!!! How about THAT?!?!!?

Just a quick heads up about the Walmart close to GKTW, since you are planning on buying some of your special food there. I went in a couple of weeks ago and found out they are doing a major renovenation. I shop there all the time and had trouble finding things. I asked and was told they expect it to take 3 months. So, if you go there and can't find what you want - don't panic. There is another Walmart not undergoing reconstruction and has everything and is not that far away. It is on the 535 near the Osceola Pkwy - or on the road to I-4. You will pass it if you go to Sea World or Downtown Disney. The one near GKTW is still fine for most things - just not everything.

One more note - you asked about a grocery store. Both Walmarts have full groceries. About half way between the two (actually right on the corner where you turn onto the 535 is a Publix, which is a very good grocery story with prices equivalent or slightly higher -like a penny or two. I think their fresh meats and produce are generally better. The service is very good.

:rotfl: I just kind of like "deadlines" for these sort of things (the weight loss, that is) to motivate me. Of course, since Ella has been born, we've had 2 family weddings, and a trip to the Outer Banks that I used as motivation -- to none avail! This trip is just the latest "deadline"!! Oh,well! :confused3 I should probably just give up at this point!!

KATIE! Thank you so much for telling me this! :lovestruc I'm going to look up that Walmart you mentioned and write down the address (for the GPS that I had better remember to pack!). It's GREAT to have a backup plan in case they don't have the foods I have to get!!!

Katie --- Either you're too fast or I'm too slow -- probably both! ;) I didn't get this message until after I responded to your other one! I'm going to find that Publix for the GPS too......thanks!
I know I must sound overly crazy about food, but once we're there, it won't be as easy to mess around with changing recipes and adding different brands to our ketocalculator computer program. I've really minimized my "shopping list" quite a bit since I'm packing all the non-perishables and anything critical!! I know most wish families have said that they come home with a lot more than they came with -- but due to all the food I'm bringing, we might be one of the few exceptions!!! ;)

I am SOOO glad that the parks are working with you on the food. Sean has food allergies, and is starting to really get annoyed that he can't eat what everyone else is. I will tell you, that the happiest he has been with food is at WDW!! They went so far out of their way to be sure he could have as much as the rest of us. I think his desserts were better than the rest of ours!!!

I know we haven't gone yet, but the strides they are taking to see if there's anything they can do to help me out is just amazing. The Chef from DHS has forwarded me lots of nutritional info about their foods, given me ideas, etc. The chef from Seaworld was soooo nice I wanted to hug him over the phone! Unfortunately it doesn't look like Noah can eat any of their food, but he gave me every piece of info I could possibly need to ensure he can eat his own food and have a good time doing it! :cheer2: These organizations are really going up and beyond!!!

So are you getting packed yet!?:rotfl:
I'm REALLY close, actually! Good news is that the weather has turned back cold, so there is no need for anything "warm". So it's all getting put into suitcases! We've found one of my mom's and so hopefully we'll find the other one this weekend. I might even try to pack the "airplane bags" this weekend? Maybe? I really want to leave next weekend for cooking Noah's meals and enjoying Easter. At least that's the plan!
The kids have only one week of school :teacher: before we leave -- I figured making them do school the two days between Easter and our trip was just an exercise in futility! That said, I have great plans for this upcoming week, so there might be some groaning around here!!! :rolleyes1
I know I'm packing WAY too much, that's for sure. We'll probably end up with 5 bags -- one for the girls, one for the boys, two for me and DH, and one for STUFF (mostly food items, but extras - goodies, and such, as well). I will probably end up with too much of Noah's food but better that than not enough, for sure. Good news is that we're flying southwest, so each one of us can bring 2 bags at no charge--- that's TWELVE (12) bags! If I end up with 12 bags, we've got problems here!!:laughing:
I FREAK out if I'm feeling rushed, so that's why I'm packing so early. I'm just happy that weather wise I can do that!! ;)
Here's to a productive weekend! ;)

Noah's wish granters came today and gave us our final packet!
I'd say it's feeling quite REAL now!!! :yay:
The kids were so happy and the wish granters brought Noah a backpack with goodies that were intended for the airplane and trip - but as soon as he saw the Lego set, we all knew there would be no waiting! Probably better now than on the plane anyhow --- could you imagine searching around for a dropped piece??
I was also shocked by the expense check too -- I knew they'd be giving us a little, but I didn't realize it was supposed to cover the meals in the park - wow.
So it's all confirmed -- YOWSERS! 4:45am next Wednesday am we'll be on our way! :woohoo:
I have to say, I was freaking out a bit a few days ago. I just was stressed out over everything, forgetting something, nervous about Noah, etc. ,etc., etc. It probably had to do with finally getting his medical records from the "long" admission in July/Aug last year. Reading through it all just brought back some scary thoughts. Why I chose to put myself through it, I don't know. :confused3 I was just happy to finally have the records -- but I should've just put them away for a few weeks. Just bad timing, I suppose.
ANYHOW, my point of all this rambling, is that I'm really trying to just let a lot of the little planning details go! I've been way to "control freakish" about things (hmmm....things like ...Noah's food, perhaps??) and I'm just going to try to make wise decisions, but not make myself crazy! We're probably going to just play it by ear most days and ENJOY this trip -- a celebration of where we've been, where we are now, and where we might be in the future.
Is any of this making any sense? Gosh, I'm babbling. Sorry, guys!!! :sad2:
Another reason I've been thinking back a bit is that we had to write out "Noah's story" for the radiothon the other day.... To answer Pamela.....
I wish I had followed more closely and known when you were going to do your interview. "I" am the queen of "speaking first, thinking after" so I certainly wouldn't have laughed at anything you may have said:) Hope it went well!!
It did go well -- that is I didn't say anything too stupid -- but they ran out of time for much of our story. Probably a good thing, considering how emotional I am these day! :rotfl: Though we did get to meet Buddy Cianci, the infamous and always entertaining ex-mayor of providence, who was convicted of racketeering and now has his own radio show!! Gosh I love this state!
We also got to visit with Noah's nurse in the neuro clinic, who submitted him for the wish. It was great to see her and be able to share our excitement -- and of course to thank her!!
I also want to thank all of you  for "planning" -- and now "unplanning" with me! ;) It won't be long now!!!! :cool1:

Glad you found it, though!! I think it had to do with some space cadet putting 2009 instead of 2010 on it for the longest time! :confused3 (Yup, that's me!)
And thanks for the reminder to stop and smell the roses! We are definitely switching over to that mode!! :flower3: And I'm so grateful for it!
I'm feeling better about all the packing and whatnot as well! I've got most of the clothes packed, minus underwear! My kids think that's funny and keep saying "Mom don't forget our underwear! That would be BAD!"
Haven't started working on the "airplane bags", but that'll be last minute probably. I've also started printing out Noah's recipes -- something I've been putting off FOREVER, and it's going pretty smoothly. I have a list of foods that I'm making ahead of time and I've started making some of them. I'm hoping to have "Betty Crocker" day later this week when I can do the baking -- muffins, pancakes, waffles, etc.
The funny thing is that these are things I should do every week -- most keto moms end up cooking one day for the whole week, generally. I have never subscribed to this -- mainly because I am a diehard PROCRASTINATOR!!! :sad2: So I'm happy to be having a reason to actually do this! Maybe it'll rub off in the future? :confused3 Here's hoping at least!!
I'm so excited to hear about all the new families heading down in the next few months! :cheer2: If any of you are reading this, I want you to know how AWESOME this community is! It's so great to have folks to share in all the excitement! :yay:
As far as the ADRs, I think we're just sticking with Chef Mickey's and the 50s prime time diner at DHS.
The next thing I'm excited about is seeing what the weather shows for next week! After the past weeks up here, I'll be happy to see the SUN!!! If it keeps raining, they're going to have to send a BOAT to pick us up for the airport!! :scared1:
Hope you guys are all having a good week!!!

We've got some water in our basement, but THANKFULLY we have yet to put carpet down there (still on the infamous "to do" list!) For once I think our procrastination worked in our favor! :thumbsup2
And it's nothing like the rest of the area -- roads closed, "no flushing toilet" bans , flooded basements, schools closed --- and it's STILL RAINING!! Forecast says it will stop soon though ... thankfully!! :worship:

About the Wal-marts. After I posted, I drove down to GKTW and stopped at the "other" Wal-mart. As I drove out, I noticed the street here was named "Vineland", although where I turned to get on it it was "Apopka-Vineland" and at the other end it is 535. The 3250 Vineland address is correct. However, I can't figure out the address of the Publix. All I can tell you is that after you leave Wal-mart and head to GKTW, Vineland, Apopka-Vineland, 535 or whatever you want to call the road dead ends at 192 - which is where you make a left turn to go to the Village. The Publix is on the Left on that corner. I meant to post a correction, but forgot. Anyway, if you are going from I-4 towards GKTW the Walmart will be on the right just before the Osceola Parkway which is a big overpass - easy to spot. I hope this makes sense.
Oh - one other thing - our weather has actually improved. May be I am jinxing it by posting this, but we have actually seen the sun and have had highs in the upper 70's with 80's predicted for this weekend. The mornings and evenings remain cool - sweater weather.

Thanks, Laura! The rain has stopped but our state is a MESS, as you guys might have heard on the news. FORTUNATELY our area wasn't hit as bad as the areas around the rivers. A lot of my friends are dealing with some real problems with their houses, but nothing too major.

Thank you again, Katie! I should have no problem finding them. I pulled up google maps and it looks straightforward -- and I'm packing the Tom Tom! ;)
Will you be at GKTW next week? It would be great to meet you in person!!!
Thanks for the update on the weather too-- let's knock on wood for that one! ;) Does everybody think that a sweatshirt and shorts will be okay at night for the kids? Or should I bring sweatpants or a blanket to cuddle up in the stroller with?
Because we haven't even hit SPRING yet here, I'm way out of what warm weather gear would be! The forecast says warm here for the weekend, but i'm not holding my breath! My memories of Easter mornings usually include us FREEZING in little white sweaters!!! I think it even snowed one time!

Glad to hear you aren't underwater over there!!! I saw a picture of the Warwick Mall yesterday on the news YIKES  My college roommate lives in Barrington. I wonder if I should dig up her phone number and see if they are ok. Crazy isn't it? Did you happen to see news footage of the street in Fall River that looked like it had been victim to an earthquake!? It was all buckled and split and.........................honestly, it looked like a major earthquake had hit.

I would think the sweatshirt would be enough - but after this winter I am not sure. Be sure to bring or buy at Wal-Mart when you get here ponchos. This was the 3rd wettest March on record. My joints are rusting. Check the forecasts on your computer just before you leave. Today, by the way is another wonderful day.
I will be working at the pool on Friday from 12 - 3 and carousel on Tuesday morning from 8 - 11. These are my regular shifts. And I may be giving a group of high school students a tour on Wednesday, but I am not sure of the time.
Please don't change your schedule for me. I would love to meet you - but having the vacation of a life time is most important. If you are around - stop by. But if it doesn't fit into your schedule - take lots of pictures and do a post trip.

Thanks, Maroo and Pamela! The mall is STILL underwater and is closed indefinitely. I've lived here most of my life and never had I seen anything like it! I haven't heard much about Barrington, though Bristol (2 towns over) got it pretty bad. But nothing like the Warwick/Cranston part of the state -- anything near the Pawtuxet River got devastated. When we were originally talking about dates for the trip, we would've been away for this week -- I'm so glad we aren't. Better to be here and see the damage first hand than to be away and worry about it, KWIM? Dry forecast for the next few days --- phew!

Katie - I'll be watching the forecast -- thanks for the info! The "plan" ;) is to spend Wednesday and Tuesday (the 2 travel days) hanging at GKTW. So there is a good chance we could cross paths! I honestly cannot believe it!! We're in pretty good shape with packing and what not. Just a few odds and ends I have to get today, and I'm going to try to make some keto ice cream today so Noah will have something to eat at the ice cream place at GKTW. I hope it stays frozen on the plane ride!!
The rest of the baking/cooking I did Friday night and it all went relatively well!
Tomorrow is my birthday, but who really cares about that when the following day, we're off on Noah's wish trip! KWIM???:banana: But as a birthday present for each of us, my sister and I are going to get pedicures tonight. The rest of our pre-BBB started this weekend. Hi guys!
I just happened to have a few minutes online and wanted to say hello from GKTW! This place is amazing and truly there is nothing like it -- nothing like the feeling you get from the people staying here, from the staff, from the volunteers, and from everything that goes on here! We are having the time of our lives!! We have had 2 busy days in a row, so we'll take it easy tomorrow, before hitting MK on Monday. Weather's great for those of you who are coming next week!
Also for those of you coming soon, one thing I did not pack was a small phillips head screwdriver! Noah was given one welcome present that had batteries and another for Abby at Christmas and we hadn't brought one! We were able to use a knife to open the battery compartment, but it would have been a lot easier if we had a screwdriver. Just food for thought -- I would NEVER have put that on my travel list!! Also I did bring a small set of scissors and they have come in handy for random things like opening toys, etc.-- again, something I wouldn't have thought of on my own but something I needed for one of noah's meds so I happened to have a pair.
Just a few things to maybe add to your to pack list!!
Gotta go to BED!!!
Best,
Beth

Hi Everybody!
We are back! Our plane was delayed twice last night and so we ended up pulling in the driveway at 12:30am!
We had an amazing time and have tons of pictures -- 600 from my sister and about 350 from me! Not to mention photopass pics and Noah's pictures (he wasn't happy with the 24 in his disposable so he used my mom's camera a lot!) So I promise lots of pics!!!
To all the families going in the next week (I know there are many!) -- you are going to have so much fun! Now I know I didn't listen and you probably won't either, but I'm going to say it anyway. Drop a park day and add a Village day. My kids just loved that place. They could've lived at the pool and carosel all day, every day and been completely happy!! Although we had some "down days", in hindsight I really wish I had listened and taken one whole day to NOT do a park. (We did Village days on both of our travel days, but park days on all 5 of the full days we were there). I wish we had only done 4 park days. I know it's hard because we all want to use our vacation to the fullest and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, but the village for my kids was just as much fun as any of the parks.
Just my two cents, but I know you probably won't listen because Lord knows I didn't!!! :rotfl:
We did have so much fun, met so many amazing wish families and volunteers and I cried when we left. Amazing, amazing place designed by an amazing man. Brian read Henri's book while we were there and shared with me a lot of it, though I hope to read it myself. If you get the chance, read his story because it is truly inspirational.
Okay, off soapbox!!! Thanks so much for the well wishes for our trip! I will start the TR as soon as possible! If any of you who are leaving soon have any questions, feel free to ask while it's fresh in my head! I'm also going to try to catch up on all the TRs and PTRs!!!
Blessings to you all,

Welcome home!!!
Since some of the most recent trippers have so strongly suggested it, I've really tried to pencil in MORE village time. At the moment I don't have any days entirely village, but I have decided to intentionally shorten a couple of them. :rolleyes1

Welcome back Beth!
So glad to hear you had such a wonderful time (but of course I knew you would;)) I plan on taking that book on the plane in a couple of weeks so I can finally read it. I can see where having extra time to enjoy the village would be especially important during the warmer months. In December, even with the unseasonably warm weather, it was still too cold to enjoy the pool.
Take some time settling in but, not too much :) (spoken from the woman who is still working on my TR 5 months later:rolleyes1)

Hi Beth, I've been using the Dis since 2008 and never really met anyone from our area. We are in Tiverton, R.I.! Your story is amazing and I think it is incredible that your Noah went through so much and that his diet essentially saved his life, what a blessing. We are going back to Disney in August to celebrate our daughter's 13th birthday ~ among other things. I can't wait to read your trip report, I love seeing Disney through other people's eyes. I had a student a few years ago who went to Disney on a Wish trip due to his sister's diabetes and they had a wonderful time, Disney really knows how to take care of all its guests. ...I'll be moving over to your trip report now :yay:

Hi neighbor!!! I'm so glad you said hello!
I'm so jealous about your trip! The kids haven't stopped talking about "going back"!! Realistically speaking, I can't imagine going back anytime soon and it will be hard to go back and not staying at GKTW! :sad1: But perhaps someday.......
Funny but our neighbor at GKTW was from Fall River!!! We met them the day they were checking out, but still....what are the chances???
