I really thought that buying a nice used copy of Nikon's 70-200 in December would squash my ever-present NAS, I reeeeeeeeally did, I promise. :guilty:

Unfortunately, because of the cruddy weather I haevn't been able to really test it out, which has led to an increased desire to purchase some stuff even though I have a bunch of other great stuff at home sitting around waiting to be used.

I had two choices last night, not doing one of these two things really wasn't an option. Either A) buy some new camera stuff, or b) book a May trip to Disney (which I know DH wouldn't have been interested in, since we're scheduled to go to Canada in May instead)

Will it ever end? No, seriously....will it? This is getting a wee bit nuts.

PS: I bought a Nikon 10.5 fisheye and a 50mm f/1.2 AI-s lens. I'm a pathetic excuse for a human being, I know.

Be careful- or someone may start a 'Terrible Influence Ann' support group. :rolleyes1 ;)

Actually I should just steer clear of this thread since I have already bought two new lenses this year and just ordered a new Tripod thanks to the 'Terrible Tripod Influence' thread going over the weekend which I did not post in but read with keen interest.

I'm going away now- probably not helping here.

:rotfl: I, too, read that thread as I have been looking for a new ballhead since my seems to slip a lot. Definitely kicked the NAS into overdrive.

I see you did some WDW shooting with the 70-200 VRII. Asked on Flickr but may as well ask here too....new addition to your lens collection or just borrowing and giving it a test spin?

LOL wow NAS strikes (and not once but twice!) before you've even properly used the result of your last NAS purchase.. you're taking it to the next level! :lmao::thumbsup2

Come on now, this is Jeff we're talking about :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I think the problem I have here is that I'm an unemployed college student constantly inundated by the terrible influence of employed people. The big difference between me and the latter group: a constant stream of income. The big similarity: a constant desire to acquire new stuff. Unfortunately, you can't purchase new stuff without the funds to do so (although many in this country seem to think you can, but let's not get into that...).

It's not just this way with photography stuff, either. I constantly find myself wanting new and nice things, and I constantly am unable to acquire them. It happens almost inexplicably, too. For example, about a week ago, out of the blue, I decided that I need some Tumi luggage. Definitely something I cannot afford right now, but I could not get the idea out of my head (it's since passed, thankfully) for a while.

Anyway, my solution (rather to accept accountability for my own actions--which is not the American way, after all) is to blame those who I see as the causes of my desire to spend money. Jeff was the first casuality. Ann, if I end up purchasing/wanting to purchase a fisheye in the next few months, you're next (although Matt and Cory on Flickr will probably be the main 'fall guys'). ;)

Oh, congrats on the purchases!

I did buy one- but there was a sale! Roberts still has them 10% off for a few more days in case anyones looking.

Hey- I'm down to just six lenses- I think Ann may have more now.

Bad girl. You now must go into the time-out corner to think. If you could take just one lens with you. Which one would you take?

I'd take the fish eye for some wide shots of the corner:rotfl:

Big Congrats!:cool1: You're gonna have so much fun with all your new glass! Can't wait to see pics.

I love the 50 1.2 and can only dream of a fish eye.:worship:

As soon as the market makes me some $$ my plan is to book a trip and buy a few basics. I desperately need a new tripod. Mine has only been out of the bag a few traumatic times and I've had enough of it. :headache:

Congrats, Ann! I'm sure you will love both lenses. That 50mm 1.2 on a crop body should make a great portrait lens.

I know many people don't care much for the 50mm, but I absolutely love it and plan to pick up the Canon 50mm 1.2 sometime this year.

I guess having 3 kids and a very limited budget set forth by the family CFO (aka DW) has put a very strict limit on my NAS. Either that or I just don't have desire to get anything new. I honestly don't see (at this point in time) any new camera equipment this year. Though I will be renting at least 2 lenses for various activities thoughout the year.

Now that is not me saying there is nothing that I really want, but what I really want is really expensive, so maybe I'm just being realistic. Maybe I'll just go visit Jeff and use that 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII lens because that is what I really want.

Good thing I wasn't into photography back in my mid 20's when I was traveling A LOT and wasn't married. I'd probably be racking up the credit card bills just in camera gear.

Anyway, congrats on the new gear Ann. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Remember, there is no known cure for NAS. Best of luck. ;)

Uh, Ann......that bonus won't be in our paychecks until TOMORROW. Couldn't you have waited until you actually HAD the money? ;);)

And like Dave said, where are the Winter Classic pix? I know I don't have as much time to check out the Photo board like I used to, but I try to get on a couple times a week, and I'm still waiting......:rolleyes1

And a P.S. to those of you who wonder when *I'm* going to take the plunge and move up from my SX10 IS to a dSLR - NAS/GAS is exactly why I keep hesitating! Sure, dSLR prices have come way down, but after the initial purchase, GAS sets in, and you're doomed forever!

Congrats! I'm lusting for a Canon 10-22 so badly right now! I keep hoping one will randomly pop up used for $300 somewhere :surfweb:

Bad is the new good! ;)

Besides, if you were *really* bad you would have bought some new camera stuff *and* booked a May trip to WDW! There's still time... :)

I have the perfect cure for myself. I have a wife that would use the new gear to shoot my funeral and three daughters that cost a blooming fortune! I don't think my solution will work for you though. I can honestly say that over the three and half years that I have been in the DSLR world, I have spent less than $2k for absolutely everything I have including two bodies, seven lenses, and an external flash. I would like a wide angle fisheye though!

Congrats on the new lenses Ann!!! Did you find the fisheye used?? When I saw the title of this thread I knew it was yours before I even looked to see who started it ... it seriously made me laugh.

might be time to soon start looking for a NAS 12 step program :lmao:

It is possible to beat NAS. I've scene it done. I have a friend that suffered badly, but he hasn't bought a new lens in a year. His trick was to buy the 14-24, 24-70, 70-200, 200-400, 600, and a few primes sprinkled in. Now he says that only an updated 85 1.4 tempts him. Of course, he hasn't stopped spending money. He just got an Epson 3880 and is spending his money on ink and paper. But he stopped buying lenses.

I also stayed out of the tripod thread. I've made up my mind on what tripod I want (RRS TVC-33) and the last thing I want is for someone to tempt me to buy a more expensive one.
