I know I wasn't the best at keeping up with reporting my miles but it seems this year the teams might take a different approach. I for one like posting to the smaller teams but also interacting with the larger WISH team as a whole. I could not keep up with the large weekly threads that we use to have before going to the different teams. So for any Duck out there that wants to continue as a team regardless if we report and record our miles I say lets continue. We can still come together as a team to talk about our running/walking or life in general and we can still report our miles but maybe not record them :confused3 It did make it more fun to know I could "double" my miles in a race.
So I'll start off the year with our first "team" thread. As for me I have gotten NO running or walking done since I came home from WDW. I am still on :cloud9:from finishing Goofy. I love  my medals!! I am ready to get back out for a short 2-3 mile run and hopefully will feel like doing that this weekend some time. I do have a 5k that I am most likely doing - it will be the 3rd year in a row that I have done it. Its on Valentine's Day. After that I don't have any solid plans but I do know I want to try and get to the Wine & Dine half. I wish there was a local half that wasn't so expensive in the next couple of months before it gets miserably hot. Miami and A1A (Ft Lauderdale) are coming up but by now its way too much for me to afford. Also I am planning on going Goofy again next year and again I will be doing it through the charity Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research.
So what is everyone elses plans for the year. Lets go out and make it a GREAT one!! :cheer2:

I am not the official captain (or even co-captain) of the team but I am trying to get us going in the new year. Anyway - I am welcoming you to the team. Glad you enjoyed our December thread.

It sounds like there's enough support to continue to the teams, in some form or another, this year. Lots of decisions to be made, though, so I'm hoping for some more input--specifically from team members:
For more, please see this post to the Teams 2010? thread (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=35100959&postcount=55), of which I've posted an excerpt here:
From what I understand, a (sort of) collective response the teams seems to be
1) People appreciate the smaller, intimate teams, especially as WISH gets bigger, for team members of active threads, and new WISHers who want to get involved.
2) But people are concerned for about the effects of the teams on the WISH team as a whole, both terms of online activities (weekly/monthly thread, talking with other WISHers, getting more feedback outside one's team, the worries about emergent cliques & feelings of outsiderness) and at physical WISH meets.
It sounds as if the teams will continue in one form or another, whether as a challenge or more like a social thread (like the Bots, the Leaners, or any of the event-oriented threads like the Princess). They seem to serve a purpose for many people. But like others, I'd like to see the team aspect enable more interaction between all members of WISH. Best of both worlds.
Teams: To help facilitate this decision-making, I'd like all team members to take that extra step, go that extra mile (sorry, couldn't resist) to address concerns about the teams' effect. Talk amongst themselves, brainstorm, and have your representative make suggestions. Are you willing to be disbanded and reformed as a new group, starting new teams for an entirely new game with new teammates? If not a miles & minutes challenge, then what? People assigned to your roster or a join-at-will? What could you do to reach out to other WISHers? Etc.
Once teams have reached some sort of consensus, or a collection of ideas, could one person post them to this thread?

Thanks Tricia! I looked on the Teams thread and didn't see a captain listed for the Triple D's or I would have sent a pm to them. I'll wait to see if your team is cool with me joining. :)
Edited to add:
Hi Ducks! Here's my intro: I'm Liz, and I'm a 33 yr old stay at home mom to 4 boys. I started posting on the WISH boards about a year ago, when I began the C25K program...when I began my journey as a brand new runner (and consistent exerciser too). I was succesful with that and ran my first race, a 5K, last May, ran another 5K in October and then completed the WDW Half this year which was a dream come true! :) I have had some injuries/issues over the past year...knees, ankle, foot, and the biggest was I tore my Achilles last August ("micro-tear" my Dr. called it). That stopped my running for 6 weeks but I was able to get back into it and do the Half, thankfully.

Welcome Liz! I know you from the Donald thread.
I like the accountability of posting minutes and miles. I'll stick with the teams. That said, I'm back in the saddle....
Jan 1-7
160 minutes
11 miles
Jan 8-14
235 minutes
29.2 miles (races count double miles... sort of like double coupon days!)
I'm planning for the St Louis half April 11 and Chicago half on, I think, September 12. Then I may be back to WDW for the full in January. This is crazy talk!

Tricia, thanks for starting a new thread. I will stick around for another year, I think the weekly reporting is a good incentive. I have also not run since the half, my foot is still bothering me a bit. But I am out biking again, no problems with foot in that regard. I just got an email from active.com about an inaugeral half in NYC this April, I may sign up for that. I will also continue with the duathlons, but the first one is not until April sometime. And will be back for the marathon weekend next year, I might move up to the full this year. I believe we did not start tracking miles until February last year, is that correct? Oh, I am also keeping track of time on the Cabot challange website, though that will be over in a little over a month I think.
And welcome Liz!

Thanks song much for starting this thread!! I'm very happy to have Triple D's move forward into 2010.
Welcome Liz, we love new team members.
I'm away from home so can't post my miles/minutes for the past couple of weeks. They're very light anyway, I've been fighting a really rotten cold/cough and haven't been able to work out as much as I would have liked to.
I like the accountability of posting our weekly miles/minutes so I hope we continue with doing it. I'm still in, even if we don't keep track.
Yay Triple D's!!!

Jan. 21 195 minutes 10 miles

Morning everyone.
My name is Deb (Solar on the board). I live in NJ and am 42. I started running in October - and am working to lose weight in the process as well. As for my Disney fix - I do Disney about 2-3x a year.
I started with the c25k - and am now working with the "Marathoning for Mortals" plan - preparing for my first 1/2 in March (Princess). I also signed up for 2 others this year, and am looking at the full in WDW.
I also belong to a running group (ROTE) - and they've really helped show me how to keep moving and believe in yourself. It's been a big piece of why I think I'm building my consistency - accountability.
I have been keeping a WISH journal for a couple of months now, and it's fun to see how far I've progressed. I look forward to checking in a couple times a week - and am a consistent poster. I've just come off a tailbone injury, and am back in the game and catching up to pace.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone, and thanks to Maura for helping me find a team.
Kindly, Deb (solar)

Hi everyone. I'm a former Buzzie checking in, looking forward to a fresh start with a new team. :goodvibes
I'm 34, married, mother of 4. I really have yet to take training & running seriously, even though I've done 4 half marathons. One of my goals this year is to be more dedicated to training so it won't be such a chore to finish a race.

Hi Triple D's,
I'm Joe from Ypsilanti, MI (cold up here), I'm new to WISH and running. I registered for the Wine & Dine Half Marathon this October and am really looking forward to it, especially after reading blogs and listening to podcasts devoted to the WDW marathon weekend earlier in the month.
Like I said I am new to running, the most I have run at one time is 2.5 miles back in my Air Force days, in my 20's, I'm 44 now. I have been working out a Bally's running on the track. I have been running 2 miles 4 times a week at about a 9:30 per mile pace. I am using a 15 week training schedule from the 2009 WDW half marathon that I downloaded. I am starting on the easy schedule and plan (feet willing) on moving up to the intermediate level by the end of February. I look forward to sharing my progress and hearing from every.

Hey Donalds! Thank you for the welcome!! Welcome to all other new members too! I'm excited to be part of this team! :donald:
My intro. is on the first page, but I will share my future plans: I'm already registered to do the WDW Half again next year. I loved it despite the rough weather this year. My time was 2:54:33 which is slow, but I chose to go slower for the first half of the race and really enjoy myself with my friend. We had a BLAST. After we got to Mile 7 I sped up because I really wanted to finish in under 3 hours. And I did, so I was thrilled with my race as a whole.
But next year I'd like to get a faster time. I'm going to do a 10K this year, probably in May, so I can get a proof of time to get in a higher corral. I'm thinking I'll try to finish the 10K in 65 minutes.
Other than that, there may be other 5K's that I'll do. My 10 yr old started running with me late last year and we did a 5K together at the Charlotte Airport (partly ON the runway) on Halloween-it was cool. So he will join me for some 5K's again. I had wanted to actually do a Half here in Charlotte on April 10th, however it doesn't look like I'll have the time to train. Bummer.
OH! And I'm doing the Virtual Vday 10K that Tricia planned!! :)
As for right now, I have to admit I have not run since the half, 2.5 weeks ago!! We had some big changes occur around here and my time has been limited, and I have to run with my 3 yr old in a jogging stroller. But, I planned to get out there early this week and this week has ended up being super busy. I think tomorrow morning I may be able to finally get out there. I am DYING to RUN!!! I am feeling my body crave it.
SamSam~ Hope you're feeling better!
Deb~ I did the C25K program last year, I love it. It made me a runner!
Jessica~ You and I are close in age and have 4 kids! How old are yours? My 4 boys are 10, 8, 5.5 and 3.5.
Joe~ I spent the first 19 years of my life in Michigan...mostly in the Kalamazoo/Portage area. After that I lived in Maryland for 12 years. And we've been here in North Carolina for 2 years now. I'd like to keep heading south. :)

A big duckie WELCOME!!!!! to all of you.
I haven't always been the most reliable poster or the best duckling, but followign in the footsteps of Big Vic, I am setting my goal to be a better team member this year than last year. This is a great place to come for soem encouragement, advice, a chuckle, or even a random movie quote....

Hello to the new Ducks! (and hi to the old ones also!) I am like others here, I have not run a bit since the half. Was it really 2 1/2 weeks ago? I have been doing a lot of biking though. I want to start running, I have been looking at some upcoming races, one is a ski-bike-run tri in March upstate. I am going there tomorrow so I want to check it out. I am thinking of a half in NY in April, and I would very much like to do the Wine and Dine.
Joe, I was also in the Air Force, back in the 70's.
Erica, do you know that Railroad Earth is playing in Bayshore next month? I already have my tickets!
Have a good week!

hi! thanks for the warm welcome to new members! my son will be THRILLED that i'm on the donald team! he's a huge fan of #1!
i'm emily, mom to two and wife to one. i am 34. i am a family/children's photographer, which allows me to work from home. my daughter is in second grade. my son will start kindergarten in the fall.
i started running in october and completed the c25k program. i currently run four miles a day three times a week. i'm trying to add in an extra day, but life and weather have beaten me from doing that so far. i've just got to get out there and do it!
i am running my first 5k on february 6. and, i won't run my first 10k until october (not a lot of races here during the warm months). i'm planning to run the half marathon at disney next year--i've promised my son a donald duck medal! ;)
anyway, thanks for having me! looking forward to being on the team!

Welcome to the team new members and returning members. I guess I am the captain of this team - not that I was the best poster in the past 2 years of being on the Triple D's team. I will try to do better this year and hopefully do a good job keeping this team fun and together.
Liz - my half time was exactly the same as you 2:54. Don't feel bad about not getting out there yet. I just barely got out for a run that turned into more of a walk last Saturday and again on the treadmill on Tuesday night. I know what you mean about DYING to run - I feel that way and then when it comes time to get out there I don't feel like it.
Looking forward to 2010 and hope its a MUCH better year than 2009 was. Lets go Ducks!!

Hello to my new teammates. My name is Tim, and if you notice how uncreative my handle truly is, you can probably guess the first few letters of my last name.
This year, I did the Goofy, finishing in 2:24 and 6:07. The 2:24 was slower than what I can do in a half, but intended to save something for the full... which didn't work so well as my time on the latter was very slow (my slowest ever by 30 minutes). That said, the challenge was unique and now I have a mark in the sand for a future attempt.
I've done plenty of running since then, as I'm doing a half in just over three weeks (hopefully, more on that in a bit). Any of you who know me on facebook know that I'm kind of sidelined with a sprain/pull in my foot that fortunately is NOT a stress fracture. Knowing that it isn't a stress fracture, I started looking into changing up the shoes I use.
Went to the running store at lunch time today, and tried on a bunch, and found a pair I really like. Said I'd be back to purchase tomorrow after I got paid. Glad I didn't purchase today, as it turns out.
I get back to work a few minutes later and get called into a meeting where I find out that, long story made short, I'm laid off. Guess I won't be getting those new shoes. (And depending on what happens in the next week or two, may not sign up for that race next month)
I'm working under the assumption that not only my training, but also my nutrition and alcohol intake will be a bit derailed tonight (:confused3), and we will see what happens this weekend. As it turns out, a friend of mine who I sort of convinced to start doing races, is doing this half next month (I registered him as a christmas gift)... so either way I'll be there in support.

Good evening all!
YAY. I finally got out there and ran for the first time since the half. Took my 3 yr old out in the jogger and did a sloooow 3 mile run/walk in 38:40. And then came home and did some good, long stretching. It all felt great. I'm happy to be on the move again!
Augie~ Yeah, 2.5 weeks ago already! Time flies...WAY too fast.
Emily~ I remember you posted on the Doing the Donald thread. Your first 5K in a bit over a week, how exciting!! I remember how fun my first 5K was (that makes it sound as if I've done a bunch of them. lol I've only done two!) It's going to be such fun for you. That's great your doing the half next year too.
Tricia~ Our half times were close! But I see you did the Goofy (congrats!) so no wonder you had a slower half time (I see your other halfs were much faster) since you had to save energy for the full. I'm thinking I'd like my half next year to be around what your faster halfs were...in the 2.5 hour range.
Tim~ Congrats on the Goofy, even if your time for the full wasn't what you wanted. All you Goofy's are impressive to me, no matter what the time! Sorry about your foot, I hope it gets better. But I'm even more sorry about the job. :( I feel for you, I know first hand (through my dh, that is) what you're going through. Tough times, these days...hang in there.

Augie hope your getting back on track you looked a little sore when I saw you on the Boardwalk.
Tricia and Tim Congrats on the Goofy Its quite an accomplishment.
Well running up north this time of years stinks about. I'm hoping about a month and a half and things will warm up some.
Have fun out there and be safe.

Yesterday, the doctor put me on anti-inflammatory meds 2x a day for my tailbone, but says i can keep running (fell down stairs 3 weeks ago, slammed my tailbone) - just have to ice after a run, and cut my mileage if the swelling persists..otherwise, i'm still good to go. I intend to keep going if i can - first 1/2 ever is in March. - Cheers, Deb

Hi Jessica- congrats on the 4 1/2s, and hope you reach your goal of more dedicated training.
Airman - welcome and hello...I'm also signed up for the Wine/Dine. Looks like you're building consistency, and that's important. That's where I'm at also - working on staying on a plan.
Liz- congrats on your 1/2, and the weather was crazy, huh?! I had some friends who ran it as well. That's awesome your 10yo is running with you too! How fun
Hi AUgie- nice to meet you - enjoy the biking - and good luck if you jump into the ski/bike/run tri
Emily- I also work from home, did the c25k and am around the same place as you. I'm slowly increasing my miles right now though for the upcoming Princess - nice to meet you.
Tricia - your time to shine, grin...maybe it's a sign to get you posting more! Congrats on your 1/2 - and here's to a great 2010
Tim- goofy is quite the endurance event! Congrats for taking it on...i'm sorry to hear about the job news...tough times for so many right now.
Ryley- congrats on taking on the WDW weekend, and going goofy in 2012.

Hey, Ducks!
Hi Vic, I'm a former Air Force Member also, which explains the screen name.
What does everyone do about training while on vacation at WDW? I will be there in May for 9 days and Vero Beach Resort for 3. Do you still continue your running, taper down while there or just figure all of the walking is enough.
Also I need a tutorial on putting the Donald image on my signature, for some reason I can't get pictures, etc to work right on this site. :yay:

Today I committed to two races. One is local, the Coeur d'Alene Half and the other is the Wine and Dine. I still have to sign up for Bloomsday (another local race), but I always take a kid or two with me for that one.
Hoping to get a new treadmill this weekend so I don't have to brave the cold weather. I'm a big baby in cold weather. :D
Liz~ I started having kids early, so my oldest (only daughter) just turned 17 a couple weeks ago and my three boys are 14, 12 & 9.

Good afternoon Ducks. TGIF! I'm looking forward to sleeping in the next two days...the early school mornings around here wear me out. I was thinking about running again today but my 3 yr old is sick now with a cold so I couldn't take him out there.
My plan is to run tomorrow and Sunday since my dh will be home, but the forecast for tomorrow is not looking pretty. I guess if I could handle running in the weather at the half this year, I can handle anything though. :)
Rich~ I hope spring arrives for you right on schedule!
Deb~ Sorry about your tailbone! That's great you can still train for the Princess though! Yeah, that half weather was pretty unreal. For a long time I was worried about the weather being too hot. Never did I imagine that would happen! I'll never forget my first half though!
Vic~ Great pictures! Your dogs are cute!
Joe~ We took two trips to WDW last year after I had started running. The first one in June I planned to run twice, I think. I only ended up going once, for a short run, about 1.5 miles. We were staying in the Treehouse Villas and I ran around the loop there a couple times then ran over to SSR and back. It was so hot, I had enough.
Then our next trip was in August and it ended up that I tore my Achilles the day before we left (did not know that's what it was until I got back and went to the doctor) but I spent that trip limping around.
Oh and then in early November we went to Hilton Head (DVC) and I had begun my Half training program at that point. I needed to do a 4 miler while there. Well, I forgot my running shoes. So no running that trip either.
But, none of it mattered in the end. I was able to catch back up just fine.
As far as signature pictures... What I do is upload my images to photobucket and then link to them there. Which Donald image do you want to use? I may already have it in my photobucket account and you can just link to mine if you want. Let me know.

Depsite growing up in Michigan, I have become pretty intolerant of cold weather myself... And I really think I was "scarred" from the post-race time at the Half this year. The race itself was fine, but after it was over and my heart rate dropped, adrenaline dropped, and the cold just set in...it was awful. I have never been THAT cold for THAT long in my life, seriously.
Good luck with the treadmill shopping. Ours died last October... My poor 10 yr old was running on it and the motor blew, a big spark flew out and it went up to 10mph by itself!! FREAKED him out, he came flying out of that room calling for me. Anyway, it would cost a lot to repair it. We kept it with the intention of repairing at some point though, it's a nice one. But in the meantime we bought a cheapy one off of Craigslist so that I'd have something to use to train for the Half in case I couldn't go outside. That one is so cheap, I can't wait to get rid of it.

Thanks Liz on the tip for the signature, as you can see I got it. I use flickr to upload pictures and didn't think about using it for the sig. Thanks for insite on training while doing the Disney vacation. Luckily we will be there in May, so I shouldn't loose any momentum before I start the hard training in June.
I am looking forward to running outside once it starts warming up (16 today).
If anyone is interested I'm on facebook, just look for Joe Reynolds, the network for me is Signs By Tomorrow.
Happy Weekend everyone.

I'm a newbie on this board and an adder to this team. :wave2:
I'm 46 years old and have run two marathons in my life; in 1997 and 1998 (both in Houston). I kept up my running through about 2001, then drifted away (changes in life, cross-country move, etc). I then went overseas for work and really got away from almost any form of exercise.
I'm now working abroad in Canada. Last spring and through the summer, I dropped 45 pounds just by eating right and walking. After a while, I couldn't get my heart rate up, so I started back to running.
So I've been seriously working at running again since November. I started running 3 miles, 5 days a week. I'm now up to 22 miles a week, in 4 and 5 mile increments. All miles are on the treadmill now, as we're in massive arctic conditions here for a few more months.
I've signed up for a 10K in Calgary in late May. My only reason in doing so is to get a decent corraling time for the the inaugural Wine and Dine Half Marathon in October in WDW. :cool1: I haven't actually signed up for the half yet. I want to make sure my knees can mange 8-10 mile runs before I make the big commitment. Either way, I'm pretty sure I'll be running the 5K fun run on the morning of the half in October at 7AM. Then if all goes well, I'll run the half at 10PM the same day!
I haven't read all of this thread yet, but thought I'd do a quick check-in. You see, I leave for WDW tomorrow morning for a week-lomg solo trip! Still need to pack and get to bed early. Will be packing my running shorts and Garmin with me to Orlando. I'll sort out the posting of my miles/time on this thread when I get back.
In the mean time? Let's keep the team moving, eh? See you when I get back on 7 February...
TTFN!

Good morning Ducks
Joe I feel your pain the wind chill this morning was below zero. The run was a rather brisk one. As for running at WDW its business as usual for me. DB's and I get up around 6:00 and run betwen 5 and 7 miles. We are always showered and ready before the rest of the group.
Liz you need to think about the Goofy in 2012. I love runnning Halfs but i want that goofy medal. Our plans may change but 2012 is my goal for the Goofy. I told DW I added it to my bucket list. She was not happy standing in the cold this year but was a great sport cheering me on. It was our first trip to WDW without our kids since our Honeymoon so she was more then willing to go.

Good Saturday morning Ducks. I was offline most of the day yesterday at the local fair. I went with my niece's homeschool group since they get discounted tickets - but it was a LONG day. The "school" portion of it was from 10AM-12PM where we went through a section of the fair called Yesteryear Village - old schoolhouse, church, post office etc. and then we were free to do whatever at the rest of the fair. My niece and her friends did all the crazy rides. We had fun but it was a LONG day.
Califlady - hope you have fun in WDW. Welcome to the team.
Joe - Welcome!!!
Glad to see some activity here with the Ducks. If anyone is interested in the Valentine's Day Virtual 5K or 10K and haven't already post on that thread please check it out. Its a great way for our WISH team to do a race "together" and we don't even have to travel.
As for me I got 12 hours of walking in yeterday - since I didn't sit for any length of time when at the fair yesterday (yes we spent about 12 hours there - ugh) and its warm here today (sorry or those that are in colder weather) hopefully I will get out tomorrow morning since all that cold is hopefully going to be here by tomorrow morning. I would much rather run in the weather we had marathon weekend - ok well maybe not Saturday's weather. LOL
Hope everyone has a GREAT weekend - it seems to go by WAY too quickly!!

I reached my goal for this week, I made it to 3 miles this afternoon, so that made it 7 miles for the week. I swapped running 2 miles on Thursday for swimming laps, I was giving my shins a break. I finally went to a running store in Ann Arbor last week and got a pair of running shoes that fit my flat feet right and I am already noticing a difference.
Thanks for the info about training while on a Disney Vacation. I found a website (http://www.disneyrunning.com/index.html) that lists distances for running at WDW resorts, pretty handy.
Have a great weekend. :thumbsup2

Good Morning! Hope everyone had a good weekend! I still have not begun to do any running yet. I did try a bit at work last week but the foot is still a bit uncomftable. So I will continue to give it a rest. I am able to bike with no problem, and rode to work every day last week, and today as well. I am hopeful of doing the virtual Vday race, but at this point probably just the 5K.
Hope everyone has a good week. At what point do we strat to report our miles?

today is the start of a new month! during the month of january, i ran 51 miles (that does not include my warm-ups and cool-downs. i only track my actual running to get an accurate read on my speed). woo hoo! i've upped my distance to 4.5 miles per run.
saturday is my first 5k. i'd like to finish in under 30 minutes. i currently average under a nine-minute mile. so, i'm giving myself some extra minutes since there will be other people running.
now. i'm trying to decide if i can get ready for a 10k by march 27.

Good Morning, Triple D's! The Monday Mixer is back and this time, it has it's very own thread! I want to make sure your whole team feels welcome - come on over!
In spite of this weeks' question being all about ice cream, things are already starting to warm up at the W.I.S.H.-Wide Monday Mixer! (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2386741)
What is the Best Ice Cream Treat on WDW Property? Include a picture or a story, if you have one!
Come and join us - it's lots of fun! (plus, I'm about to bust out the beverages!) See you at the Mixer (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2386741)!

Hey, Ducks....
Can I come back? :goodvibes
Tricia...thanks for taking over. I know Brian and I sort of slacked out at the end of the year. I know he had a bunch of LTO. I has some of that, but also just got discouraged when so many Ducks bailed and I sort of took it a little personally, since I had spent a lot of time making the spreadsheet and keeping the tallies going, even for the absent people (always wondering if they would come back). (That includes you, Big Vic! Welcome back! )
Let me know what I can do to help make this an even stronger team than last year!

Airman - Congrats for getting your goal last week. :thumbsup2 on getting new shoes - that is always a good feeling.
Big Vic - Great job on getting 5 miles in - that's alot better than me - I got a big 0 in since Thursday and that wasn't even really anything. Sorry to hear about your TM - :sad1:
Emily - Great job for getting the miles in last month - :thumbsup2 Good luck on your first 5k :cheer2:
Betsy - Welcome back  of course you are welcome back. I am not much of a captain but I figured I would step up and try and keep the Ducks together. As far as what we can do to make our team stronger not sure but hopefully you can add your input on what we should do about miles.
Miles ~ What do we do about them??
Do we report them and track them, report them just to stay accountable but not track them, ? ? ?
ahoff - Once we answer that as a team then that should answer your question. Hope your foot feels better. I am only going to be doing the 5k for the Virtual Valentine's Day as well.

Would anyone want to take back a slacker from last year's team? I know I haven't been on the boards in almost 2 months due to stuff going on personally but I think about several of you everyday. I am still waiting to get my computer back from the guy who is fixing it. I am hoping that will be done in the next day or so. My personal issues are still going on but we are nearing some kind of conclusion soon. I am VERY sorry for the way I bailed last year. Part of it was under orders from my attorney. Part of it was because I just couldn't get on a computer as much. Hard to get on one when you don't have one.
Anyway, I would love to come back and help in anyway that I can if you all will have me, I have always LOVED the Ducks!!!!

Hey Triple D's, just checking in to let you know I haven't quit! Between work, travel, and being sick I haven't posted very often.
Going to the Doc tomorrow to see if I cracked a rib from coughing. I actually just called him to see if it was possible to crack a rib by coughing and if it was cracked, could I still work out. Of course, being a doc, he wants to check it out! I haven't been sick in over 5 years, so this is a real pain to me!
I just want to be able to work out at my normal level!!!
Welcome to all our new members, I think it's going to be a fun year. :goodvibes

Hey Ducks! Hope everyone had good a good weekend! Mine was very busy, but good, and ended up extending into today. We got a fair amount of ice here Friday and Saturday and with some of it still around in shady neighborhoods, schools were closed today (and are delayed tomorrow). I've got some sick kids, looks like just one of mine will be able to go to school tomorrow.
I did get one run in, on Saturday, on the DREADMILL. I've seen that term used by many, but that's the first time I've used it myself, I believe. I am officially part of that club! It's funny because I did the entire C25K on it last year and really relied on it, thought it was easier than outside, and gradually as the year went on I grew to feel the opposite. Running on the treadmill is harder than outside for me now! But anyway, I had to run on it due to the ice. So I did 3 miles...that's all I could motivate myself to do. No running since then, and probably won't be any until all my kiddos are well again.
CALIFLADY~ Welcome! I hope you're having a wonderful time in WDW!! :wizard:
Rich~ IF (and that's a big IF) I were to go for the Goofy, it would probably be in 2013 at the earliest. I've got the half next year again, and if I feel motivated to do the full then I'll do that in 2012 at the earliest, and then I would go for Goofy a year or two after that.
But right now I don't have any motivation to do a full. I've only been running for a year and I feel like even when/if I want to do a full, I need to be a runner for a longer period first and get some more halfs under my belt. I think it's a psycological thing...
But you know what else? I kinda don't want to "do it all" within a few years and then it's over, you know? The WDW races, I mean. Once you do the Goofy, what is there to go for? I know you can go for better times, but still, that brand new experience is over. I want the journey leading up to that to last awhile. Know what I mean?
That's great you and your wife did this years trip alone. We also honeymooned in WDW and have not been back alone-yet. Will do it someday!!
Tricia~ Sounds like it was a neat fair, and you got lots of exercise at it! You are right, the weekends are always too fast. Honestly, ALL the time is too fast it seems to me!
Joe~ Way to go on reaching your goal! Enjoy the new shoes. You know I thought about that website and was going to post it for you, glad you found it.
Vic~ Ooo, sorry about the treadmill. If you read my post above we lost ours last fall and bought a cheapy (temporary) replacement. I wish I never needed to use the tm, but sometimes it's just the way it has to be. Good luck deciding what to do with yours.
Augie~ Hope the foot continues to heal. That's great you can do so much biking though! I would love to bike, maybe someday I will buy one and get into it. We used to go biking before we had kids.
Emily~ Way to go on the miles for January! That's great! I bet you will finish in under 30 no problem. I did my first 5K in 28 minutes, and I was not as fast as you! That first race gets the adrenaline a-flowin'! :) I think you could totally do a 10K on March 27 too. You are already running 4.5 miles, you only have to add another 1.7! Here's an 8 week plan, and you are already running much more than this calls for:
http://www.halhigdon.com/10ktraining/10knovice.htm
Betsy & Bryan~ Welcome back! :)
SamSam~ Yikes, ouch! Wow, let us know what the doc says! Hope you feel better!!
As for the miles tracking thing, I'll do whatever the team decides. It isn't something I would choose to do though, honestly. I keep a running log on my own already. I'm into the social and supportive part of being on a team.

the news just said it is supposed to be pouring rain (in the 30s) on saturday morning. ugh. i know that it iced on everyone at disney this year, but that's disney. lol! i don't know. i may have to pick a different 5k. i'll be fine as long as it is just a light rain. i don't think i'd enjoy pouring rain though.
i am going to go for the 10k. even if i have to walk some of it, i think my time should be good enough to move me into a better corral for the disney 1/2. it's over a huge bridge, so i know that may slow me down some. i need to try to get out and do a trial run over the bridge. and just ignore how high i am! :)

Hi Ducks, I had a crazy weekend - my computer had some major issues, so we had to do a complete operating systems reinstall...still sorting through stuff, programs, and such...then yesterday was knocked out with a stomach flu.
The GOOD NEWS is with some anti-inflam. meds - my tailbone issue is slowly resolving, and I was able to run for 2 hours on Saturday night. Was thrilled, since it's my longest run to date.

Hi Vic, nice to meet you - I did a spell of 2 years as a 911 dispatcher - good times. Love the pics you included, and thank you for your many years of service to our country.
Jessica- I hate the cold weather too! Hope you found a treadmill that works well for you
Liz- hope you got your naps and running in (just saw that you did on your TM), Sorry to hear your kids are sick
Hi Cali- nice to have you with us - and congrats on the past marathons and weight loss - hope you're having a great solo WDW trip!
Tricia- wow, that's some walking! hope you had a great time at the fair
Ahoff- sorry to hear your foot is giving you a problem, but glad you could still bike
Emily- I hope your 5k went well, and congrats on upping your mileage
Betsy- nice to meet you, I'm newer here, and looking forward to getting to know everyone
Hi Bryan - nice to meet you, sounds like you've had a rough couple of months- hope things start to brighten up for you

Welcome back, Bryan and Betsy! You both did a great job with the tracking of the miles. Speaking of which, if we decide not to do it, that is ok. It does seem to give some motivation though.
Emily, you should be able to go to a 10K. I was only doing 5K's and a few times an occaissional week running 2 to 3 miles at lunch time, and I went right to a 13K (the Tot) and had no problem. And from that sort of went to the half this year, again with not much long running, though I did increase the few weekly runs to over 3. And I also did the WISH virtual turkey trot 10K. My legs were a bit sore after, but I got over it. I know I would not have been able to do a Goofy though! I was impressed to see Rich out running the next morning on the BW.
I like your thinking on building up to a Goofy, Liz. I thought I would do the full next January, but maybe I will hold off. There are a few halfs I would like to do first.
Thanks for all the wishes for the foot. It does feel better, but I still have not run on it yet. But I do go long stretches without running. As some of you know, I do a lot of biking, it is almost my main mode of transportation. I commute to work almost every day, a bit over 12 miles each way. Even in this cold!
Well, have a good evening, everyone!

Hi Triple D's. It's so good to see all the interaction here!
Update: Yes, I did break a rib from coughing. So I ask my Doc, will working out do any damage? His first response, "just listen to your body".
My next question, "So walking is fine?"
Doc, "Yes, but it will hurt, especially if you use your arms"
Me, "But, it won't cause more damage".
Doc, "just looks at me"
Me, "What about a kickboxing class, I know it will hurt, but will it cause damage?"
Doc, " No kickboxing, no weights, no high impact"
Dang, I guess until the break heals, the only workout I can do is walking. That is really difficult for me, I feel like I will lose everything I've gained through really tough classes and free weight workouts.
Okay, done whining....I need to be thankful that I'm usually extremely healthy and look at this as a small 'bump in the road'.
Welcome to our new members. The Triple D's Rock!

Just wanted to say, I just got off a phone call that ended with "welcome aboard", so I'll be getting my new running shoes pretty soon :)
Haven't been running much in the past week due to a minor strain in my foot anyway, though these next few days while I still have nothing to do during the day, I will try to get a few workouts in to ease myself back into things.

Reporting in for minutes/miles for the last week of January:
330 minutes 14 miles.
All was done before the cracked rib, the first couple of weeks in February will probably be pretty light, although I do plan on walking as much as possible.
It's supposed to get up to 40 today with a little bit of sun, so I'll be able to walk outside. Love days like this!

After nearly a full week off (strain in my foot that I was, for a time, afraid might be a stress fracture), I did my first run today, approximately 3 miles in approximately 30 minutes. Going to see how my feet feel tomorrow, and assuming they are all right, hopefully run 6 tomorrow night.
Two and a half weeks from my next half. Was hoping this would be my chance to break the two hour mark, but am backing off from that goal and am instead going to use the race as a "see how I'm doing" kind of trial.

Hi all. This week has been rough. All 4 of my kids are sick now, home from school, not sleeping well, I am so tired. No running has happened and I'm not sure when I'll be able to get out there.
Deb~ I'm sorry about the computer issues and the stomach flu. That's great you were able to do a 2 hour run though, I bet it felt great to accomplish that, congrats!
Augie~ It's nice you have the biking thing to do when you can't run. 24 miles a day to/from work, that's great.
SamSam~ Wow, I can't believe you broke a rib from coughing! I'm sure you won't lose everything, I bet it will come back to you.
Tim~ Congrats on the new job! That was fast!! I hope your foot handled the run ok and you can do your 6 tonight.

Hi Team Donald!
Thanks for the welcome. :) I am a 48 yr old mother of 2 who has been running properly since 2003. I started cautiously but have since run 15 half marathons, 9 fulls and a bunch of 5 and 10km races. My Disney races so far are WDW full 2006 and Princess 2009. I ran NYC in the fall and have been keeping it low-key since.
Quick question on mileage reporting...is it a weekly total and should I report in on any particular day?
I look forward to "meeting" you all!

Went to the indoor track at the Y again this evening, and did just under 6 miles, in something like 50 minutes. Finished with 1/4 mile of hardcore anaerobic pace (which felt good, if difficult)
Foot is a bit sore, though not as bad as last week. I am not yet using new shoes (will get them soon though), though I'm not certain if that's even really the issue. The discomfort isn't as bad now as it was a week ago, and may just be one of those aches and pains that happens for a while then goes away, who knows. Honestly, I'm hesitant to even call the doctor back for fear of being told, in so many words "You're fat and your run really long distances, what did you expect?" ha!
Overall though, feeling pretty well. Will hopefully get in a 10+ miler on Sunday, and a 16 miler next week sometime.

Okay . . . have been a team member for a week or so but haven't posted yet due to major time constraints. Anyway, I think I might have some time this weekend with the predicted "blizzard". Here is a little about me:
Real Name: Laura
Age: 40
Location: East Coast, Delmarva region
Family Stats: Married with two kids (DD9 and DS5)
Meaning of DIS Name: I'm a mommy who likes to participate in marathons. I'm also a mommy with a daily marathon life-style - every day is a crazy race!
Races: (Other than some assorted 5 and 10 K's) WDW Half 03, WDW Full 05, and WDW Half 10
Upcoming Races: Would love to do Nashville Country Music Marathon but ran out of enough cash to support my recent addiction . . . lol! Definitely Disney 2011, and I'm looking for some in between to force me to keep running!
Pets: 1 Dog (rescued pit bull) and 1 hermit crab
Hobbies/Interests: Not much of my own
Watching daughter's competitive cheer team, occasional running (just started trying to get somewhat serious/regular), going to the movies and eating popcorn in the dark, African wildlife, and especially planning and enjoying trips to Disney!
Want to Know More About: Chi Running. Just read about it on the Wish Boards and ordered the book and DVD. I'm hoping it is the answer to my prayers. I know, deep down in my heart, I am meant to be faster!
Favorite Disney Park: For Dining - EPCOT by far
For Fun - Since TSM came, it would have to be DHS. I love TOT, RNR, and TSM!
Favorite Disney Dining Spots: Prime Time, Coral Reef, Sci-Fi, and T-Rex (all not so much for the food, but LOVE the atmosphere)
Coolest Things You Ever Did: "Ran" a Marathon, swam with dolphins, went on an African Safari (by myself), and rode a mechanical bull
I'll add more later. Feel free to cut and paste and share about yourself!

Oh Cool idea Laura - when I have time this weekend (after this crazy week) I will cut and paste your template and fill it out about me. But I have to say we have another thing in common besides marathons and Disney - I can now say I have rode a mechanical bull (and have the picture to prove it) I never thought about it but its something I always wanted to do so I did when I saw it at our local fair. Of course the guy probably controlled it WAY slower than "regulation" but I was still riding that bull! LOL I will have to post the pic when I get a chance.

Welcome marathonmommy/Laura! :) Love the little survey, will fill it out later.

Real Name: Joe
Age: 44

Family Stats: Married (25 years this August) with one kid (DD18)
Meaning of DIS Name: I was in the Air Force for 10 years, it's my Xbox Live name also (air-man)

Upcoming Races: registered for the WDW Wine & Dine Half Marathon in October. Thinking about signing up for the Air Force Half Marathon in September
Pets: 1 Dog (a beagle)
Hobbies/Interests: Anything Disney (of course). I enjoy reading Marvel Comics (imagine my excitment when Disney bought the company). Photography, I just bought a Canon T1i, I can't wait for my next trip to WDW to use it.
Want to Know More About: Chi Running, just read about this last night, their are good videos about it on youtube. I have problems with my shins, hopefully this will help.
Favorite Disney Park: Magic Kingdom, I have been going since 1973 and it doesn't get old. Epcot is a close second.
Favorite Disney Dining Spots: I am a counter service person when at the parks, Sunshine Seasons is good I like the selection. The Food & Wine Festival is a fun dining spot.
Coolest Things You Ever Did: I rode a mechanical bull, too, at Billy Bob's in Ft Worth, I have the video on my facebook page to prove it. When I fell off I went through the cushion and hit my back on the concrete floor. I had a bruise the size of a softball on my lower back.
I married my high school sweetheart. The first 3 years we were married, Debbie & I lived in England, our first anniversary we spent the day in Monte Carlo (I haven't been able to top that yet).
Cool idea, thanks Laura.:thumbsup2

Another good week at keeping up with my training schedule. I did 2 miles on Monday, 2 on Thursday and 3 miles this afternoon. All were indoor running on a track at Bally's (I can't drag myself outside yet to run). It is 14 laps at the track for a mile, my mind wanders while running and I have a tough time keeping track, does anyone have a good trick to keep track of the laps? I would like to wear my ipod, but I know I would completely loose track.
I am really curious about this chiRunning thing, I first heard about it while looking up leg stretching exercises. I have had a history of shinn pain in the past that has limited my running. I think following the schedule I am on, I might have it beat this time and I thought this Chi thing might help. Has anyone read the book and watched the video? I watched some good viseos on YouTube. A ChiRunning trainer is conducting a class in May where I get my shoes, I might sign up for that.
Well everyone that got pounded by snow yesterday stay warm and safe this weekend.
Let's hear it for the funny commercials during the Super Bowl, :cheer2:RAA!:cheer2:

Didn't get any running in over the weekend, though I'm not super stressed over it. Planning to do a long run tomorrow evening after work (not sure exactly how far yet, we'll see how the new shoes feel)
Definitely need to get a good run in next weekend with my buddy... in two weeks we're doing a half together. For me, not a big deal. For him, though he's a faster runner than I, it will be his first half... so, it will be good for him to have at least one really good long run under his belt a week ahead of time. ha!
Hope everyone has a great week!

Happy Monday Ducks!
Well I got 2 out of 3 of my boys back to school today (the 4th one isn't in school yet) . My 10 yr old is still home sick. We found out Saturday that he has H1N1 and then yesterday had to take him back in due to ear pain, and they found one ear infected and the other heading that way. Hopefully the flu is on it's way out and the antibiotics will kick in for the ears and he can go back to school soon.

MarathonMommy- there's a thread about chi running with some links...I use Chi Running- and love it. Great change for me.
Airman - still trying to figure out how to say your town name! Mentioned above, I'm doing chi running- and it's been wonderful for me - haven't taken a class though, sounds like a neat experience in May
Ahoff- that's neat about the physics experiments, and I'm about 70 miles from of NYC - out in NJ!
Emily - an african dwarf frog! I need to look that one up! Don't think I've heard of those.
Sharon - ooh, I saw teh indoor skydiving thing, that looks fun! I'll see you in October! - doing the W/D too
Tricia- I may have just stayed in my room and pulled the covers over my head with that sleet/snow you experienced - congratulations on doing such an incredible job at the Goofy- here's to continuing to inspire people
Sally- I LOVE the launch of Rock/ROllercoaster - oh my gosh..it never gets old! Awww, the turtle thing!
Ryley - something about a natural wonder - takes your breath away, huh? I felt that way in Sedona, and then the Grand Canyon
---
Ran 2 miles Saturday - and have a long run this week. Looking at 8-9 miles. Will either do it today or Wed..so today will be 3 or 4 --- or 8+, I have to see how I feel as I go. I've tried to do most of my long runs on Wed's, but lately it's a matter of seeing how my tailbone feels - if I feel good, I keep going - if it's just not there, I cut it shorter.

A big welcome to new team members. Glad to have you aboard, Triple D's rock! Sounds like several of us are going to be doing the Food and Wine Half....YES!!!!
I don't know for sure if we're tracking hours/minutes yet, but just in case, here are my hours for the week ending 02/07/10:
200 minutes 17.5 miles
My rib is slowly healing, so I've been using an eliptical machine and a stationary bike for my workouts. Anything else makes the rest of my day miserable. I recently joined a new gym with some great sounding classes, so I'm really looking forward to participating in them when I'm able.

If were tracking miles
50 miles running 8.50 hours and around another 80 biking at 9 hours. Were getting ready for the same storm everyone else is getting. The weather is a pain. The street are never plowed at 5:00 am so running is an adventure.

Good Morning, Ducks! Welcome to the new members! I have enjoyed reading all the questionaires. The letterboxing sounds kind of neat. I have still not done any running yet, have done some walking, and a lot of biking. I still plan on doing the virtual Valentines runs we are doing, but just the 5K. That is if the streets are clear, we are predicted to having more snow tonight. I am looking forward to a snow day tomorrow.
Rich, you are racking up the miles again! I only have biking miles to report, 150 in 9 1/2 hours
I hope everyone has a good week! Stay warm!

Good morning, everyone! Thanks for the welcome. :goodvibes
I have decided to do the Virtual 5K on Valentine's Day. I'd like some advice from you all on what my strategy should be. Like I mentioned before, I'm currently on week 3 of the C25K program. The longest distance I've done so far is 2 miles and my speed is pretty slow (I run on the treadmill). I'm hoping to try and increase my speed this week and see how it goes.
I will have finished week 3 by Sunday. But, I'm not sure how I should try to do the 5K. Any suggestions on what kinds of intervals I should aim for? I'm barely able to run for 3 minutes at a time right now.

Carissa~ Check out this site:
http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/walk_breaks.html
See the ratios they have listed there for the run/walk? Maybe that would work for you. So if you normally run at a 15 min per mile pace, you would do the run for 30 seconds and walk for 45 seconds plan. You could modify that to your liking and change it as needed during the 5K. Maybe double the time sometimes to 1 min run/1.5 min walk. Or slow it down to 30 sec/1.5 min or 1 min/3min. You want to do a pace that will get you to 3.1 miles feeling good (I would not worry about time).

Happy Tuesday Ducks!
Well I am getting irritated at my lack of running... My 10 yr old is still home sick, my 3 yr old is still fighting off his cold. So I can't head out with the jogger and I can't use the junky treadmill in the garage because my 3 yr old is an energetic/curious kiddo and I would have to get off the treadmill every other minute to see what he's up to. I know they will get better, and I'll be able to go out with the jogger at some point again. But I really, really want, no, NEED, my inside treadmill working again. So I'm going to talk to dh and see if we can't go ahead and get it repaired....fingers crossed.
I'm signed up for the Virtual VDay race, the 10K, however I may have to drop down to the 5K. I'll just decide that morning. I mean I've only run twice in the past 4 weeks!!!:eek::eek: That's awful! So even if I only do the 5K, I know it's going to be a SLOW time for me. Oh well.
My main goal right now though is to train well for the 10K I'm planning on for May 15th. I want to do it in about 65 minutes and use that time as proof for the WDW Half so I can be in a better corral. (forgive me if I already told you all that, and if I repeat myself in the future on stuff...I have a fuzzy memory sometimes!)

Thanks! I will go check that out. I used to have Jeff's book, but I've lost it somewhere over the years. That sounds very doable for me. I did do under a 15 minute mile today, but that was working HARD. I couldn't keep it up for 3 miles.
I know I shouldn't worry about time, but having to post it for everyone here to see... :rolleyes1 It's going to be VERY slow.
You definitely need your treadmill working! Hoping you're able to get it fixed soon.

Don't worry about your time, I mean you JUST started running. My time would have been super slow had I done a 5K at just 3 weeks into the C25K! My time for this race is going to be slow (for me) too... :scared:

Hi Carissa - welcome to the Ducks
Liz - hope you're able to get your indoor treadmill repaired soon
--
I did an 8 mile run today - my longest yet! It was a nice confidence booster, as the Princess 1/2 is getting close!
I track miles elsewhere, so I probably won't report monthly/etc here if that's okay.

Good morning Ducks! What are you all up to today? Some of you owe us updates, bigtime!! :wizard:
I got the thumbs up from dh on getting our treadmill repaired. :thumbsup2 He's going to get the ball rolling on that this weekend. I'm thinking we can sell the garage treadmill and maybe even sell the jogging stroller and put the money from those towards the repair.
My poor 10 yr old is on his 7th day of missing school. :( He is mainly just exhausted. He even speaks in a whisper sometimes as he is too tired to fully talk. I just keep giving him lots to drink and as much to eat as he will tolerate (he has decreased appetite too). And he rests non-stop. I hate the flu.
Deb~ Congrats on your longest run yet! I know I was always excited with each of my newest-longest runs. It's a great feeling!
To all of you dealing with the winter weather, hang in there!! Spring will come!

Hey Ducks, I just had a thought, I'm going to start a list of our upcoming races...I'll post it in the 2nd post:

I went through the thread and posted as many races as I could find...I need exact dates for many of them. So post your race dates and I'll add them to the list!

Yay for getting the treadmill fixed! And poor boy. :( I remember when Sully had the flu last year or the year before. He just spent a week lying on the couch and barely eating. And he ended up with an ear infection with it too.
Hey Ducks, I just had a thought, I'm going to start a list of our upcoming races and Tricia you can post it in the first post if you want to. :) It'll be a Triple D version of what Vic does for the entire WISH team. Cool! Will you be wearing any sort of costume? I guess people dress up for it so I might come up with something - just a shirt and/or hat. Nothing that would bother me when I'm running.
I'll have a 5K or two to add in there once I decide which one I'm doing.

No, no costume. There were a very small amount of people in costumes last year. Mostly just regular running gear though.

Welcome to the Ducks Carissa. And thank you Liz for your help. I love the races list you started on the first page - GREAT idea!
I am so glad so many of you will be doing the Virtual Valentine's Day race "with" me. It doesn't matter what our times are - mine probably won't be that great considering I have only walk/run maybe 3-4 times since the Goofy. Do whatever distance you can manage on that day. I might do the 10k instead of the 5k but again will decide that probably on Sunday morning.
What do we want to do about miles? Not sure what everyone wants to do about miles? I am for one don't feel like being responsible for keeping track of everyone's miles because I know I won't be able to keep up with it. Tracy from the Warriors was nice enough to create a Google Excel spreadsheet for our team that I can post a link to if anyone wants to keep track of their miles on that. Otherwise I think its great if you just want to report them here and not keep track of them. Whatever works for everyone. Please give me feedback.
Carissa - don't feel bad about any time you post. We are an accepting bunch here and let me be the first to tell you I am not speedy. I have been running/walking for 2 1/2 years and am not very fast. I made it through the Goofy doing a run/walk of 5 minutes run, 3 minutes walk. This year I plan to work on my speed and better cardio (so I don't have to do so much walking and feel more comfortable when I am running) I think its AWESOME that only 3 weeks into C25K you are going to get out there and do a 5k.
Deb - Congrats on your longest run so far. I remember how exciting it was to hit each new milestone. Your doing great.
Liz - Sorry to hear your son is still sick. Hoping he starts to feel better really soon. Poor thing sounds miserable. And here is a hug for you

I also, don't want to be responsible for tracking everyone's miles. I know I'd fall behind! I do like reporting my miles/minutes here, as it helps me get out and get going on the days that I really don't feel like working out.

So we may be switching places then..I had planned for the 10K but I'm thinking it will be the 5K now. I'll just go out there and see what I feel like doing. I know I could do the 10K if I did it REALLY slow...so I'll just wait and see.

I personally don't have a desire to officially track for myself or anyone else either. (Maybe someday I will, I don't know?) Leaving it up to each individual gets my vote. If one wants to track and post their stats, then they go ahead, if not, then they don't. And if anyone wants to volunteer to be the team tracker and use that spreadsheet or however they want to do it, that would be fine too. Those are my thoughts Tricia, hth!
Once I finally start running regularly again I will sometimes report, just in a casual way in my posts, what I've done (miles and/or time) and sometimes not, it'll just depend on what I feel like doing.
Liz - Sorry to hear your son is still sick. Hoping he starts to feel better really soon. Poor thing sounds miserable. And here is a hug for you

I also meant to mention that I'll be doing the 5K on my treadmill. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to keep track of my intervals, increasing/decreasing my speed, and my miles/time all while just trying to get through the whole thing! I think longer intervals will work better for that reason. I do have a stopwatch feature on my phone, but I just want to keep everything as simple as possible.

Emily, how did it go Saturday?!?! I was thinking about you!
i'm sorry i missed this! i can't remember where i posted what! lol!
it rained most of friday and overnight into saturday. and it did rain through part of the race (not pouring). it was kind of chilly. thankfully, the wind wasn't as bad as it normally is at folly beach.
lots of HUGE puddles covering the roads. sometimes, we were in a line to get around. one line was so long that i just ran through the middle of the puddle.
it was a VERY low-tech race. they did not have chips. start was when they started (regardless of when YOU crossed the line). and they wrote down when you finished. although, DH has the picture of me crossing at one time and their official time for me was later. my nike plus has me finishing right at 30 minutes, which was my goal.
next race, i will try to get a little closer to the front at the start. i was about mid-way back. and it took me until the first half-mile to really get away from the slower runners. it was on a two-lane road with only a small amount of grass on either side. so, we didn't have a lot of passing room. once we spaced out, i found my usual pace and kept that up.
all in all, a nice first race. i'm hoping the next one isn't as cold and wet! i am going to sign up for a 10k at the end of march.
and now, DH is going to try to start running. i hope he keeps it up. :) i'm trying to be his cheerleader, but he doesn't want any cheering! ;)

I found a podcast here:
http://www.motiontraxx.com/
It does intervals for 30 minutes of 1 minute jog/1 minute walk. Most of the speeds/bpm are too fast for me, but I can deal with that. I can go at my own speed and just use the dings for increasing/decreasing. I can just start over after 30 minutes or by then I may be about dead and need to just walk the rest of the way. :rolleyes1

Hello All,
Was invited over by Liz and hoping you still have room for one more in your group? Just started running seriously a couple of months ago. Enjoyed reading your posts. I am in the Air Force with almost 18 years in, plan on retiring in 2 years and becoming a junior high or high school teacher. Currently working on my masters degree in secondary education.
Looking to get back into shape, I have been sitting behind a desk for a few years and got fat. Since September I have dropped 20 pounds and started exercising about 5-6 days a week, made a new years resolution to run the 2011 WDW full marathon (combine my favorite two things Disney and exercising). My wife jokingly says exercising has become my mistress. My info:
Real Name: Dan
Age: 36
Location: Newport News, Virginia
Family Stats: Married to a great lady with two kids DD12 DS10
Races: None as of yet
Upcoming Races: Running my first race on 13 Feb a 14K for valentines day, looking for a half in April or May, but most of the ones around here are full already, if anyone is from around here and has any ideas please let me know. Running the WDW full in 2011 (My new years resolution).
Pets: 2 dogs, 2 cats
Hobbies/Interests: Exercising,Disney, and my family (I travel a lot with my current job and try to spend as much time as possible when I am at home)
Favorite Disney Park: Epcot, love the food from around the world ( I think this is what got me in trouble the first time)
Favorite Disney Dining Spots: Biergarten, 50's prime time cafe
Coolest Things You Ever Did: Beat skin cancer (Malignant Melanoma) been cancer free for almost 4 years. I've done some pretty cool stuff in my life I have traveled and lived in places all over the world (just moved back to the states from Japan last March), been to war and survived, met some of the best people this country has to offer and would not change any of it.
Thanks

Hello Carissa, I'll be down in your neck of the woods on Saturday morning (gonna be cold) running the Virginia is for lovers race down at the amphitheater. Do you know of any good running parks in this area? I really do not like running on the roads around here, been about run over a couple of times. I have a 3 mile loop in the neighborhood which isn't bad, but I am looking for some new scenery. I heard the botanical gardens is nice to run in over in Norfolk.

I sure hope it's warmer than it is today! :scared1: This cold wind bites right through you.
I'm afraid I'm fairly new to the area and new to running. There is a 4 mile loop at Mt. Trashmore here in Virginia Beach. I'm hoping to do some of my outdoor runs over there once my husband returns from deployment. If you've never been to Mt. Trashmore, I recommend it. They have an awesome playground and a skatepark.

Emily, good job on the race. Too bad it was so wet. Have done my share of wet races! And yes, getting close to the start line is a big boost.
We had a snow day yesterday, and a delayed opening today. Which gives me time to shovel out the driveway.
Have a good day, everyone!

We got between 12-15 inches of snow yesterday - I'm dreaming of Florida and know I'll be there in a couple weeks...oh, am I ever ready for sunshine and warmer weather! Shoveling was my cardio yesterday (back patio/front walk)- thankfully we have a snow blower too, so it wasn't too painful (driveway, DH)
--
Liz- great news on the tradmill - sorry to hear DS10 is still under the weather -psst, love RunningSkirts too ---- An upcoming race for me - April 11 (Bucks County Half Marathon) - you got my other two, thanks Liz
Carissa - I am S-L-O-W, but I move my body, so i'm still proud! Also, like Tricia mentioned - I also do a run/walk -- if you have an ipod touch/or iphone there's an interval timer called ultratimer where you can set intervals and play it behind your music- you can set your own intervals...works great.
Tricia - I'm tracking elsewhere, so won't really be doing that here for miles, etc..more like mentioning what i got done recently as I post
MarathonMommy - ha...extra acreage is NOT something i want back there (the dots) -but I do love their skirts, I wear a choc. brown color one
Emily - congrats on your 30 mins race - sorry it ended up being a wet one! Great news on DH
Dan - hi and welcome to the Ducks! Thanks for your years or service to our country - and good luck on your future plans to teach - the WDW full may be my first full also! Congrats on beating cancer

Living in Virginia Beach, we don't get much snow although we did get a very rare eight inches a couple of weeks ago and a couple of dustings besides. But, it has been too cold!! I am so ready for warm weather. Please soak up some sun and warmth for me when you go! :goodvibes

I've heard about that app and wish I had an iPhone! Unfortunately, I have a different smart phone. That app would make life so much easier. I think if I would have known I'd be doing C25K when we bought our phones in December, I might have paid the extra money and splurged for an iPhone. :rolleyes1

:rolleyes1
Thanks for the link, I am dowloading now and look forward to using it if I ever walk/run outside again. :goodvibes
Welcome to our new team members. It looks like we have people from all over, I think it's pretty fun to be part of a team with people from Florida, Canada, New York, etc.
I'm also hoping to meet those that are doing the Food and Wine Half, there are already 5 of us signed up!

Upcoming Races: Running my first race on 13 Feb a 14K for valentines day, looking for a half in April or May, but most of the ones around here are full already, if anyone is from around here and has any ideas please let me know. Running the WDW full in 2011 (My new years resolution).
Dan,
I was doing some looking for local races and saw a few that might work for you. Not sure if you already know about these.
1) Dismal Swamp Stomp Half-Marathon, Chesapeake (http://dismalswampstomp.kalerunning.com/index.html) - April 17
This one looks limited to 2,500 participants so this may be one of the ones you said was already full.
2) Blue Ridge Marathon, Roanoke (http://blueridgeparkwaymarathon.com/) - April 24
This also includes a half-marathon. It's not really local since it's about 200 miles away, but thought I'd mention it.
3) Rock-n-Roll Half-Marathon, Virginia Beach (http://virginia-beach.competitor.com/) - September 5
This one is later than you were hoping for, but maybe it would work?

Unfortunately I have a business trip to North Carolina and Louisiana the last two weeks of April. The dismal swamp one looks pretty cool. I wanted to run the Shamrock, but they filled up on 1 Jan. I meant to sign up for the Rock n Roll yesterday, because they were giving away some pretty cool stuff if you signed up on the 10th, but forgot. Anyways I just signed up for the Rock and Roll today. Looks like a lot of fun. I wish the relay was at a different time, that looks fun also. Are you going to try and hit that one?

Thank You

No. I won't be anywhere near ready by then. I'm going to do my first race on August 29th and that's just a 5K. Then the Blue Moon Wicked 10K on October 30th. Both will be run on the boardwalk.

Hi everyone. Welcome to those even newer here than me!
It's been a fairly quiet week of running as I have a race this weekend - the Valentine's Half on Feb. 14th. I have been supplementing with Pilates to balance the easier running regime. Next week will be easy then I'll begin training properly for another half in May at which I hope:worship: to have a PR.
Happy trails and treadmills, DDD!

So far this year there isn't an official posting of weekly exercise times. Many will still post minutes/miles (like me) because it helps some of us stay on track. Post everything, running, walking, weights, any cross training.
If I'm wrong about this, someone please correct me. :goodvibes

Hi all!,
Welcome Dan, Go Air Force!, we'll all have to compare where we were all stationed.
Deb, Ypsilanti is pronounced ips-ill-anti, the town was named after a Greek general from the early 1800's the setlers read about in the paper and thought he was a hero worthy of having a city named after him.
Liz, we are thinking of doing the Segway tour at Epcot this May, is it worth it? We are staying at Boardwalk Villas, so we can walk early to the park.
I had a good week training, 2 miles on Monday, 3 Tuesday, 2 on Thursday and 4 miles today (a personal best, so far). My shins are still holding out and I am very excited about that. :cool1: I also did 30 laps in the pool.
I am hoping to get a couple of runs outside next week, I will be in Las Vegas for my businesses national meeting. I just downloaded an app for my blackberry to track my milage and pace with the gps.
For you Facebookers, I am using an app on FB from Brooks Shoes that is pretty good for keeping track of milage, time and cross training. It's a pretty good program.
Everyone have a good week.

Carissa---Yes it was 32 degrees at the start with a 5-7mph wind and light snow, it wasn't too bad until the end, where it was blowing right in your face. Not sure who's bright idea it was to put in running up into the amphitheater at the end, but the hill sucked.
Joe--I have been stationed at Griffiss AFB NY, Shemya AK, Goodfellow AFB TX, Scott AFB IL, Lackland AFB TX, back to Scott AFB, Misawa Japan, and currently Langley AFB VA. Getting tired of moving.
Liz--I am signed up for the Fort Eustis 10K (26 March) and Rock and Roll half marathon in September (can't remember the exact date)
Official score for todays 14K 73min 13 sec. For my age group of 35-39 I placed 42 out of 134.

my goal for february was to run 14 miles a week and i'm going to miss it this week. today was to be my last run. but i am coming down with something and just cannot get out and run tonight. :(

february week one: 13.06
february week two: 12.7
if i'm feeling better tomorrow evening, i may try to get out and pick up a quick two miles. my week runs monday through sunday, so that would work. :)

WTG girl! :cool1:
I just finished my 5K and am sitting here extremely sweaty! :rolleyes1
Before today, my longest distance was barely 2 miles so running 3.1 was a big stretch for me. The most total running time I'd had during a workout was 9 minutes (if you add up all of my intervals) and I'm pretty sure I doubled that today. :scared1: It does give me confidence that I can move on to the next week of C25K without any problems. :thumbsup2
I did include my warm up in my 5K time because I knew I couldn't maintain a 1:1 ratio throughout the entire distance. The first mile was great. Lots of energy and feeling good. The second mile was the hardest. I started feeling tired from probably going too hard in the first mile. The third mile wasn't too bad because I slowed my pace a little and knew I was almost done. I even revved it up for the final couple of minutes. I was excited and surprised that I was able to continue with the run intervals until the very end. I did have to add in a few extra walks, but I'm really happy with how I did. :goodvibes
So............
My time was 48:32. I'm pretty happy with that.

If you have not done it, do you know of anyone who has and how bad it hurt them?

Dan~ Congrats on your 14K! :) 42 out of 134, woohoo!! That's cute that it was a 14K for vday weekend. How many miles is that anyway?
Tricia did the Goofy and is doing it again next year, maybe she can help you decide on that.
Joe~ I LOVED the Epcot Segway tour. I did it in January 2008. It was cold and windy that day so I was wishing I had dressed warmer. But despite that, it was one of the most fun things I'd ever done. We did the training inside Innoventions and then followed the CM's around the World Showcase. They took us out to an open area and let us have free time for a bit, then we went back to Innoventions, total 2 hours. They limit the speed that the segways can go, so if you're a lead foot like I am that'll get to ya sometimes. At the end they gave each of us a pin, a nice momento (I hope they still do that). I highly recommend it! I want to try out the Fort Wilderness one next.
Emily~ I'm sorry you're sick, get well soon!!! You'll catch up to your goal.
Carissa~ Congrats again on your first 5K! You did sooooo great!! :)

DH and I have done both tours and loved both of them. We felt both tours were well worth doing and will probably do each of them again. The Fort Wilderness one is really a totally different experience, using a different Segway (more off-road capable), we went through some sand, etc. which made for a little more challenging experience.
Both are very fun and worth doing IMHO.

We'd love to go to Great Wolf Lodge at some point! The boys saw it advertised and it's been mentioned many times. Glad to hear you had a good time. :thumbsup2
I'm actually looking forward to my "run" tomorrow! That seems so crazy to me. I find I prefer running on the treadmill over walking. The run/walk intervals make the time pass so quickly. Tomorrow I'm supposed to run for two 5 minute intervals - wish me luck!
We have been here for a year and have been meaning to get over to the Lodge as well, but still have not made it. It looks like so much fun. Kind of reminds us of the wilderness lodge down in WDW when we drive by it.

First you'll need to upload the images you want to use onto a host site, I use Photobucket. It's a popular one for that purpose.
Then you'll need to go to your User CP here on the DIS, then to Edit Signature, and you will copy/paste the links to your images from Photobucket into there.
Here is the thread with the user bars, I got my particular ones on page 2:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2076963
In that thread is a link to a website where you can animate them (put more than one on the bar and have them change).
If you need more specifics than that let me or anyone here know. :)

Okay, I’m back…in more ways than one.
I’m back in Edmonton after my week-long solo trip to WDW. It was an AWESOME trip! I thawed out and got to do and see just about everything I wanted to in the World. I met up with a fellow DIS’er once and met lots of other new people along the way. I’m going back in late September for a two-week trip (which hopefully will include the W&D ½ Marathon!), so I was okay in leaving at the end of this trip (snif). I got in one 3.5 mile run while I was in Florida. Not great, but what with all the walking you do down there, it wasn’t unexpected.
I’m also back to my running. I’ve been keeping up with the Ducks thread here for the past week, mostly lurking. But I haven’t posted because ever since I got back from WDW, I haven’t run. Until today. I finally got motivated enough to head back down to the treadmill today (it’s waaay too cold up here to do any running outside for a few more months). I got a 4 mile run in for the first time in over two weeks. It felt good to get back at it! My knees are a little tender, but I hope that’ll remedy itself overnight. That trip to WDW just really knocked the socks off my routine. Hopefully, I’ll have a good running week and start to prepare for my upcoming 10K in Calgary.
I’ve really enjoyed reading other’s surveys, so here’s my “official” survey answers. Liz – if you would be so kind as to update the first few posts with my info here :) – and thanks for “keeping track of us”!
Real Name: Renee
Age: 46 (will be 47 in late March…)
Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada…I’m American…I just work overseas and abroad, so I end up in lots of different locations.
Family Stats: Single, no pets.
Meaning of DIS Name: Lived in California when I joined the Dis…doesn’t make a lot of sense anymore. My tag from the Tag Fairy was given to me when I lived in Yokohama, Japan. Yes, my logistics are all very confusing.
Disney Races: No Disney races to date, but two full Houston marathons in the 90’s. Definitely signing up for Mickey’s Halloween Family Fun Run 5K on 2 October, and have great hopes of signing up for the Wine and Dine ½ Marathon later that night. I’m holding out on registering until I know my knees can take 8-10 mile runs.
Upcoming Races: Signed up for the Calgary 10K Race on 31 May 2010 in Calgary, AB. I’m running this to get a decent corralling time for the W&D ½ Marathon!
Hobbies/Interests: Disney, running, missionary work.
Want to Know More About: speed and interval training
Favorite Disney Park: It used to be EPCOT, but then I went and traveled or lived in all of the EPCOT countries but Moracco, so the “coolness” of WS was gone. I’ve fallen back in love in the Magic Kingdom.
Disney Dining: I was at WDW just last week, and I think my favorite dining was found at the MK Confectionary. I couldn’t stop eating the chocolate dipped rice crispy Mickey Mouse heads! Not good, I know. But I do know that everyone here understands my addiction, right?
Coolest Things You Ever Did: Snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef, rode the Trans-Siberian Railway across most of Russia, climbed Mount Fuji.
That's probably enough for tonight. I promise to get and keep plugged in more later this week.

Just did W4D1 of C25K and it went pretty well. I was able to make it through the first two run intervals for a total of 8 minutes with only a 90 second walk break in between. The last two run intervals I had to cut short, but I'm happy with that for today.
Total distance was 1.85 miles.

Thanks Liz on the review for the Segway tour, I think we will be doing that in May, I want that pin!:cool1:
Sally I hope I can get up to doing a casual 1/2 marathon, that's awsome.
The bases I was stationed at was, Lackland AFB, TX (like everyone), Lowery AFB, CO (yes it is closed now), Plattsburg AFB, NY (for school, closed now), RAF Upper Heyford, near Oxford England (closed, I'm detecting a pattern here), McClellan AFB in Sacramento, CA (closed), while in California I had the opportunity to deploy to Myrtle Beach AFB (closed) to modify A-10's, RAF Lakenheath (3 times, still open!), Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Cannon AFB, for school and some time in Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield/Storm. My last place was Moody AFB in southern GA. That was nice because we were only 4 hours from WDW, so we visited that a few times.
I fly out to Las Vegas tomorrow morning for our National Meeting, I will try to get some running in there. Have a good week everyone.

LoL..I see an interesting trend in your assignments. Somehow I don't think that you got out of the Air Force, but the individual states didn't want you to show up anymore in fear that the base would close :rotfl2: What base were you at in Saudi? I did Al Kharj in '93.

Joe, looks like we were at several of the same bases, just a few years apart. Although I was stationed at Shaw in SC, a friend form basic was statioed at Myrtle beach, and I spent pretty near every weekend there during the summer. And when I was at RMAB, there were six other US bases in Germany, and there was a pretty good sports league. I played soccer, and we were the german champs, so we went to Upper Heyford for a week for the USAFE championship. Besides playing soccer we also played tourist as well, so visited London.
Liz, thanks for organizing the St Patty's runs. And you list Charlotte as your home, I noticed on the Trey website he will be playing at the Fillmore there next Friday (the 26th). I just saw him last night, and it was great show.

he has seasonal allergies. but he is allergic to some foods too (egg yolks, peanuts, walnuts and cocoa). he has mild asthma that is aggravated when he is sick or if he is outside in the heat too much. it is mild, so nothing compared to how bad some children are. :) he tends to get whatever is going around though.

No unfortunately we are only going from 21-27 Dec and then I will turn around a go back by myself for the marathon weekend. Wish my family could be there, but with school for the kids and my wife not being able to take that much time off from work it just is not in the cards. So I will need some running motivation when I get down there, Not that I won't be totally stoked and excited anyway, but it will be lonely.

Good morning Ducks! Can you believe that I have another child home sick from school today?! My 5 yr old seems to have come down with another cold, and has a constant cough. His teacher sent a note home with him yesterday saying that he was coughing a lot at school...so I figured I'd better keep him home for a day (hopefully NOT more than that!)
Emily~That's good your son's asthma isn't bad. My 8 yr old also has mild asthma, and his allergies are: trees, grass, weeds, mold, dust mites, cats, dogs and tree nuts. Fortunately the only ones that have ever caused a very noticeable symptom are the springtime outdoor ones. The rest were only discovered by chance through blood tests. And he only needs his inhaler once in blue moon. We're thinking/hoping that he is outgrowing the asthma and most allergies. Although his doctor still wants him to get allergy shots. Each year we reassess whether to do them or not, and we'll be doing that again this spring. So we'll see.
Dan~Yay for registering for the Full! Seems like a great idea to me to do that first then go for the Goofy.
It looks like you have the same WDW travel plans as we do around then! We are also going to WDW for Christmas (Dec. 17-26, we'll drive), and then I'll be flying down for marathon weekend alone (that's what I did this year too). I'll fly down Friday morning and fly home Sunday, again, just like this year. It works well like that, enough time for the race and some fun too. :) I'm thinking I will go cheap and stay at POP this time though, I stayed at BLT with a friend for this years.
Deb~Way to go on your 10 miler!! :cheer2: Are you in taper now? When I trained for the half last fall the training plan I was following called for the longest run to be 12 miles. Due to having a hurt knee, my longest ended up being somewhere around 11.25. Which was plenty.

liz, so far, we haven't done allergy shots for DS5. but, he started on zyrtec right after he turned one. for awhile, he had to have it every day. now, i only give him allergy medicine when the seasonal stuff bothers him. and he doesn't use his inhaler frequently at all. the only time he really has attacks are when it is the hot months. i just have to monitor how long he is outside. while he'd love to be outside all day, every day, he just can't handle it. i'm hoping he grows out of it some. he can eat things he couldn't before (he can have eggs if they are made into something, like cupcakes, but he doesn't eat anything with eggs as the main ingredient). but we still avoid peanuts and walnuts. he won't touch chocolate. it's funny. he used to say, "i can't eat chocolate. chocolate makes me sick." and now, he says "i'm sick of chocolate." so, we're trying to explain to him that it's nicer the OTHER way he used to say it. he doesn't mean it to sound rude, but it does. lol!

Emily, my son was more like yours when he was younger. He couldn't be outside as much, it would just flare him up. But he has gotten better and better each year. I hope it goes that way for your son too! When my son was younger he used to say that type of thing about foods that had nuts in them, "I don't like that." But I didn't want him to think that, I wanted him to know that, well, maybe he would like it, but unfortunately he can't have it. I wanted him to understand the truth, that it wasn't a matter of not liking things, it was a matter of him being allergic to them. Of course now at age 8 he understands it all and is very good about being safe.

Good morning all! Well I sent in my 5 yr old this morning. I emailed his teacher and said if she needs me to come get him at anytime to call me. I want to get a run in before that potentially happens so I'll be heading out with the jogger in a little bit here.
Dan~Will you be at Riverside or French Quarter? We've stayed at them both and love them. We honeymooned at Riverside when it was still called Dixie Landings. And then we stayed at French Quater a few times with the kids, we like how small that moderate is. We are partial to the Sassagoula River resorts, just love that area!
Anyway, for our trip we'll be staying offsite at Caribe Royale the first two nights, and then we switch to Saratoga Springs (we are DVC members) for the next 7 nights. But, we may end up splitting those 7 DVC nights between SSR and another DVC resort just for fun...we have to wait until 7 months out to do that though.
Have you been at Christmas before? We did it for the first time in 2008, and it was so much fun!! It really was extra magical being there for the holiday. We took a slim, 6 foot tree, and other easy to use/easy to pack decorations (window clings, paper decor, sparkly garland). Oh and we even took a prelit battery-operated evergreen garland that we hung on the railing of our balcony! It was so much fun decorating and having the villa like that during the trip. Oh, we stayed at SSR that trip too by the way.
Renee~We considered going down for a quick family trip and some of us would do the 5K, but we decided against it. It sounds like it's going to be so much fun!!!

Does everyone cross-train on your non-run days? I've been trying out different "games" on the wii and just tried EA Sports Active today and really liked it. My thighs are going to be sore tomorrow. :rolleyes1
Just curious what everyone else does.

We have stayed at many of the other resorts, but always keep coming back to the Riverside, we love the secluded feeling the resort has if you stay on the back side. Plus it is just a boat ride away from DTD. We have never been during Christmas before. The reason we decided to do Christmas is this year was the first time we were in a place without family and it felt lonely. So instead of trying to split Christmas between two families in Utah and Indiana we decided to do Disney instead.
The one thing I am nervous about with going during Christmas are the crowds that I keep hearing so much about. We are trying to figure out what rides we absolutely must go on and hit them first. This way if we do not get to go on many rides we will hit the ones we want to go on and not be disappointed. We are taking decorations down also :santa: Any hints as to how to handle the parks during this time?
We have thought about doing the DVC for many years, we were as close as finalizing and backed out. Of course looking back on it and how many times we have been, it probably would have been a lot cheaper.

Carissa,
That WII is no joke, I play with my son and the baseball home run derby and tennis kick my butt. I joined a gym by the house, because I did not want to go all the way to the base, but here is my workout by day if that helps, I try to do this most weeks, but life throws curves every now and then and takes me off course or I may only do five days. Like this week after doing the 14K and then a PT test today my schedule was thrown way off. I have been at this really hard since October and have about got to a point where if I miss a day I feel guilty.
Sunday- Long Run
Monday- Weights upper body only
Tuesday- Plyometric type exercises, short run
Wednesday-Full body weight workout
Thursday- Plyometric type exercises & medium run
Friday- Full body weight workout
Saturday- Rest

"Games" like Wii Fit Plus, The Biggest Loser, and EA Sports Active are more of a workout than the typical games that you can get for the wii (although wii sports boxing is one of my favorites and really gets my heartrate going). They all include cardio and strengthening exercises. The Biggest Loser and EA Sports Active give a greater intensity workout than wii fit, but they're all pretty good.
I had to look up Plyometrics. I'd never heard of it before. Sounds like you have a great system going. Once I lose more weight and am able to run 3 miles regularly, I'll probably start getting more specific with my cross-training. Right now I'm just trying to do something every day of the week except for Sundays.
By the way, we stayed at Port Orleans Riverside on our last trip and fell in love. Wonderful resort. :thumbsup2

If you have ever heard of or seen the P90X infomercials, plyometrics are most of their exercises and from what I hear, if you want to get in shape and lose weight fast, buy that program. I have some friends who use it and swear by it and it requires very little equipment to purchase, just some weights. You can youtube some of the P90X workouts.
Honestly, even though you don't get as close to the parks as you do with the deluxe resorts I like Riverside a lot better. The only other resort I would consider staying at and I can't afford it over Christmas is the Beach Club, because it is next to our favorite park EPCOT.

Hello Duckies! I think for me running is more a cross training activity, as I usually bike about 10 times as much per week or more. But I will start running more now that the weather is starting to get a bit nicer. Although I did not register for the W&D yet, I did make ressies for that weekend.
Have a good weekend, everyone!

Phew, I am tired tonight! My day was pretty busy and it flew by. I did get my run done though, took ds in the jogger and did 4 miles in 45:50. :thumbsup2
Carissa~I use my Wii Fit Plus sporadically...no other crosstraining.
Dan~We were a bit nervous about the crowds for our first Christmas trip too. We had experience with larger crowds (in the summer) though, so we felt somewhat prepared. Also I have to say that I think "crowds" are subjective at times...crowded to one may not be crowded to another. And I think we've become pretty tolerant of crowds.
So anyway, when we went in 2008, Christmas was on a Thursday. The first few days of the trip (Sat the 20th-Mon 22nd) the true Christmas Eve/Day crowds were not there yet. So we were able to get some great park touring done. This is the time to get those must-do's done for sure.
On Tuesday the 23rd we did not go into the parks, it was a take it easy day...we hung out at the resort and went to DTD.
On Christmas Eve, Wednesday, we went to MK in the morning, and that's when we first saw the big holiday crowds. Our plan was to stay there until the mid-afternoon then go back to SSR to do the Christmas Eve stuff in the lobby there. Well, we were really glad that was our plan, because we were ready to get outta there! We left MK at about 3pm and it was very crowded. We went back to SSR where we enjoyed listening to carolers in the lobby (my boys got to join in with them and they gave us bells and candy canes) we got to meet Santa with zero line, and we had some cookies/drinks they had out. It was relaxing and enjoyable and a great way to lead into the evening and the next morning.
On Christmas Day we did not enter any parks, it was a very relaxing day, we had the full, typical Christmas morning, then we rented a surrey bike at SSR and had dinner at Chef Mickeys.
Then, on Friday the 26th, we went to MK first thing in the morning and it was VERY LOW crowds there until about Noon. For example, we rode the teacups a few times in a row, not even getting out of our teacup, because there was zero line! I had read on here that the day after Christmas had low crowds because so many people spend Christmas Day in MK, and that definitely held true for us. Things did get busier as the day went on (but still not what one would think it would be for the day after Christmas in WDW!), and we left MK at about 4pm that day.
So, with Christmas falling on Saturday this year, our plan will be very much the same as that trip. We will do lots of park time those first few days and get our must-do's done. And then slow it down as we near the holiday and for the holiday. I'm not sure if we will be able to hit MK on the 26th this time as we drive home that day, so we'll see on that. And I'm also not sure if the fact that the 26th is on a Sunday (instead of on a Friday in 2008) if the crowds will be higher or not since it's a weekend day. My guess is that it will still be lower crowds that morning for the first few hours.

Liz - Glad to hear you got your run into today. That means your boys were able to stay in school all day? Everyone just about healthy now in your home?
Okay...now I need some serious help. If you recall from my "survey" I stated I wanted to learn more about speed and interval training. I'd like to pick up my speed a bit, so I've looked at 1/2 marathon training plans that include speed training. But I can't figure out what it's telling me to run! Help! Take a look at this. This is an excerpt from Runner's World Intermediate Training Plan for the 1/2 marathon. I'll clip out just the training called for on the first Tuesday of Week 1:
******************************
1x1200 PI (400), 2x800 CI (200), 4x200 SI (200)
Pace Intervals (PI): Relatively lengthy repetitions at your goal half-marathon per-mile pace to build endurance and develop pace judgment. Note: All numbers in parentheses above denote distance of recovery jog.
Cruise Intervals (CI): Run at 10-K race pace to promote stamina and the ability to run strong when tired. For 10:00-per-mile half-marathon pace (2:11:06), run 7:07 (1200), 4:45 (800); for 9:00 pace (1:57:59), run 6:24 (1200), 4:16 (800); for 8:00 pace (1:44:52), run 5:42 (1200), 3:48 (800).
Speed Intervals (SI): Run at 5-K race pace to promote relaxed speed and a sense of comfort at your considerably slower half-marathon pace. For 10:00 half-marathon pace, run 4:30 (800), 2:15 (400), 1:07 (200); for 9:00 half-marathon pace, run 4:04 (800), 2:02 (400), 1:01 (200); for 8:00 half-marathon pace, run 3:37 (800), 1:48 (400), 0:54 (200).
*********************************************
I'd like to just program this training run on my treadmill so I don't have to think too much, but I'll be darned if I know how to figure what to run.
If I want to run a 9:00 pace, then does this mean I run 3/4 mile (1200 meters) at a 9:00 minute pace, then "recover jog" for 1/4 mile (400 meters) at, say, 10 minutes per mile.
Then I'll run 1/2 mile (800 meters) in 4 minutes, 16 seconds, or at a 8 minute and 32 second minute per mile pace. Then I'll "recover jog" for 1/8 mile (200 meters). Then I'll do that again. I'll run 1/2 mile (800 meters) in 4 minutes, 16 seconds, or at a 8-minute-and-32-second per mile pace. Then I'll "recover jog" for 1/8 mile (200 meters).
Then I'll run 1/8 mile (200 meters) in 1 minute, one second, or at a 8-minute-and-8-second per mile pace. Then I'll "recover jog" for 1/8 mile (200 meters). And I'll repeat this three more times (for a total of four times).
Have I got that right? I go faster and faster farther into the workout? This just seems a bit...overwhelming. Gulp. What am I getting into?!?
Anyone else do speedwork like this before? Am I over-analyzing their recommendations? Or is this correct?
Thanks for ANY help and suggestions all you Ducks can offer! I'm really eager to learn about this, especially before my upcoming 10K.

I worked out with a personal trainer a while back and did some speed work and it was a lot easier than this. Here is the basics of what we did. I would start out with a medium pace for 2 minutes and then sprint for 1 minute and then back to a medium pace for 2 minutes I would do this for for 5 sets. I would rest for 3-5 minutes and then he would shut off the treadmill and I would do 30 second sprints without no power for 5 sets and that would be it. The first part works well on an eliptical as well and it kills my calves (I am usually sore for two to threes days).
I have also bought some Itunes Nike workouts to go on the IPOD that work really well also. The Serena Williams workout is awesome.
Hope this helps

Speed is something I really want to work on, but that will have to wait until I build endurance. I did complete all of my run intervals today! :cool1: At the end of next week I'm supposed to run for 20 minutes straight, which still sounds extremely daunting to me right now. Trying to just focus on each day.
Hoping to get out for a hike with the boys tomorrow and enjoy the nice weather. I was thinking of going to the Newport News Park, Dan. Have you been there? Wondering if the trails will be wet and muddy?

Thanks Liz for the info, we will definitely be taking some of your lessons and using them for our trip. My wife and I were surprised at your comment of hardly any lines the day after Christmas. We went to Tokyo Disney a couple of times while we lived in Japan and the crowds there just for a normal day would make you go insane. At times the crowds were just so overwhelming. Don't want the crowds ruining such a fun time for our family. We usually go to WDW in Jan/Feb, but it is getting harder to pull the kids out of school as they get older.

Carissa-
I know this is REALLY hard to believe (from your current perspective), but there's gonna a moment where running that extra tenth or half or full mile will just happen. There comes a point with running where you cross over this barrier of, "I just want to /need to quit", to a point of, "Well, I'm tired, but I could go another mile. Yep, I can do that".
Right now, my toughest mile is my second mile. I can run the first mile pretty easily, because I'm rested and ready to go. Then mile two sets in and all I want to do is quit. But after I get to about 2.5 miles, I justs kinda go into "cruise mode" and can run 4, 5, 6 miles. It's hard to explain. Maybe someone else can.
All I want to do is encourage you and tell you that 20 minutes may seem overwhelming this week, but there's gonna come a day (and not too far out there) when you'll scoff at 20 minutes, but wonder if you have enough time before you need to start dinner to get in a 60 minute run! Really. I promise, it'll happen.

That seems like a pretty decent time to me. :thumbsup2 When I say I want to improve my speed I'm saying that I'd like to go faster and not be the slowest one out there. :rolleyes1 I'm not looking to break any records, but I know I can run faster than 4.0 on the treadmill. :sad2: The issue is I prefer to run faster - it feels better to run faster. But, I get tired quickly if I go faster than that right now. So, once my endurance is built up I'll work on the speed. I'd be very happy if I could do a 5K in 34:15.

I have to agree withwhat Renee said, after you do a few miles, you feel like you canjust keep going. Within reason, I guess! When I did the Tot 13K I felt like Icould have kept on going (which gave me confidence in the half). And I felt pretty good at the finish at the finish of the Half, though the coldness was starting to get to me, and I was glad it was over. Maybe it is what they call the runners high. Sometimes I fell like I am not really tired but something else will become bothersome, I was on a long bike ride and though not tired the bottoms of my feet felt on fire.
Hope everyone has a good week. I feel good right now, went for a ride with a bike club for 30 miles, and when I came home wentright out and ran for 3 miles. Ithink I will get some lunch now......

I took the boys to First Landing State Park here in Virginia Beach today. But, they had most of the parking lot closed up so we had to park further down and couldn't do the trail I wanted to. Had to use the main bike/jog trail. Lots of people out today. That will most likely be the trail that I do a lot of my long runs on so it was nice to check it out. Such a gorgeous day here today - sunny and 56.

Can't wait to head to FL - NJ while we're sunny and in the 40's this week just isn't warm enough for me still. Looking forward to time off with my husband, sunshine and short sleeves, and goofing off with some running friends.
---
Carissa- great job on sticking with the C25K...you're doing great and congrats on adding more time to your running. Isn't it so much fun to watch your progress?
Emily- Princess sounded good to me because it's cold in NJ in March..ROFL, has nothing to do with princesses for me! LOL
Dan- it will be nice to have continued support for each other as we train through the year - and fun to watch our progress - my "go to" resort is Caribbean Beach - but I'm going to resort hop in March and check out Riverside - poke around. Crowds...I've heard good things about RideMaxx - and Tour Guide Mike or Touring Plans will help you with which days to go to which parks to help beat some crowds - Happy Birthday to you!
Cali - great job on getting back into your running. I won't be doing the 5k, but will be doing the 1/2 at the W/D -- I agree, the first 2 miles suck, then my legs warm up and it's easier
Liz- you need an Owners Locker to put your Christmas decorations in! LOL - i have one so I can pack lighter and love it. Glad your kids are finally feeling better! It's like one person gets sick and it passes from one to another until the entire household has had it!
Augie- I haven't been on a bike in probably 20 years...I keep hearing it's such a great complimentary exercise...one of these days I'll have to try it again! It's been awhile - how does so much time go by?
Laura- I love them...I want the one that says "Thanks to me you have someobdy to pass"...and own "Find Your Happy Pace"...the only thing is it holds "sweaty" smell a little more than my other shirts...not sure if it will for you too - I'm not fast :) won't ever be fast...I'm okay with that.
Joe - would be awesome if you got to sign up for WDW's 1/2 in Jan...hope they keep it there for you.
Vic- way to go on the 6 - enjoy your race!

Sorry about the absence work and kids keeping things real busy. Nice weekend for running sunny and in the mid thirties. I got the usaul 50 miles running and about 60 on the bike. Trying to figure out a race to run this summer looking around for something new and interesting. Rich

i finished up the week at 15.1 miles (total for the week). i have been sick and barely got through four-mile runs (normally, i run five). my legs felt like lead earlier in the week. and i skipped a few runs. i actually got out this afternoon (normally, i do not run on sundays because of church) to make up a bit of the deficit. so, that put my over my 14 mile goal. i'm hoping to make up for the rest of what i missed earlier this month with what i run next week. i'm also hoping that i'll feel up to five-mile runs again. normally, i feel like i can push through. but this week, i've just wanted to be DONE.
carissa, i'm with you. i'm working on endurance and will worry about speed later! i know that 20-minute run sounds daunting at this point. i felt the same way (when i did c25k). but honestly, it wasn't that bad. i kept telling myself that i'd take a quick walk-break if i had to. but i never had to! you can do it!!!
marathonmommy i love it! slow is the new fast! as long as you finish, time is just a number!
airman, four trips in one year! that sounds like a dream! :thumbsup2
dan great job this week!!! and good luck on your masters. my dh went through that when DD8 was a baby. it was great when he finished! and happy birthday!!
big vic, woo hoo on the run this morning!
rich, sounds like a good (albeit TIRING) week!

This past week has been a bit of a step-back for me in terms of overall volume, with a total of just 22 miles (on the heels of 41 miles previous week). Still haven't picked a spring marathon, but am getting more and more serious about my thoughts about doing an ultra this July. Trying to keep my "base training" volume relatively high so that I can do a half on a whim or a full with relatively little notice (for when I finally pick one). We'll see how that strategy pans out I suppose.

Happy Monday Ducks! Just like some of you, we had a gorgeous weekend here, sunny and in the 60's. :sunny: Spring fever was in full swing with lots of people out walking and running, doing yardwork, cleaning garages and kids playing outside from dawn til dusk... :goodvibes
I cleaned our garage on Saturday and then we took a big load of stuff to charity that afternoon. I love getting rid of things, and the icing on the cake is that the charity I take all our things to is for a women's shelter where the people staying there get to pick first out of everything donated and the rest is sold to the general public with the proceeds going back to the shelter. I love knowing that there is only one middle-man between my donations and those who need them.
Yesterday I did a 4 mile run, no stroller, so my time was 42:50. That's exactly 3 minutes faster than my Friday run with the stroller.
Today is very rainy so it's an inside chore day.
Update on the IWISH 5K/10K: Out of the 18 members of our team, 12 of us are participating! That's awesome you guys! :shamrock:
Renee~Yes, my 5 yr old was able to stay at school all day on Friday, yay. He has some lingering minor cold symptoms, but otherwise we are all healthy for now! :wizard:
Good luck with the speed work stuff...honestly I haven't spent any time trying to understand it myself yet. Whatever I end up doing I can guarantee it will be SIMPLE! If it's not simple, my eyes will glaze over!
I know exactly what you mean by "cruise mode". It's wonderful when you go into it and you can just keep going and going!
Laura~Great shirt. lol
Dan~A belated Happy Bday to ya! :) The signature looks great. :thumbsup2
Yeah, it really is surprising that it can be that low of crowds then. I have posted about our experience that day many times here on the DIS, but I'm sure some people do not believe me. It is hard to believe until you experience for yourself.
I have a question for you: since that will be in the thick of marathon weekend training, how will you incorporate running into your trip? Or will you just not run that week? I'm thinking I want to run at least twice down there...one shorter run and one longer run. SSR is a great place to run since it's big and has lots of pathways. I can run over to the Treehouses, DTD, over to OKW... I just hope I don't get down there and say, "eh, I don't need to run this week." I REALLY want to do those two runs. I just have to keep it as a priority. My dh is fine with whatever, so it's just me who needs to stay strong and not blow off my runs to have more park time or whatever. :)
Joe~That's great you'll get to be in Orlando again for your meeting. My dh loves it when work takes him to Orlando and he gets to have some fun!
Deb~Yeah I've heard great things about Owner's Lockers, glad you like yours! Since we drive down we are good to bring our stuff along. If we were flyers I would definitely consider getting one.
Keep up the great work everyone! :donald:

Liz,
I have thought about this a couple of times and looking at the calendar the weekend of Christmas starts the tapering time. I know I will get up early the day after we drive down and run, because I will need the stretch (amazing as I get older the more I hate driving long distances) and I would like to get in at least another medium run during the week. It will definitely be a test to see if I can mentally get up and go run half way through the vacation. Like you I just have to keep telling myself it is a priority. I am usually up by 6am anyways and by the time my wife and kids get up and get going I could probably have 2-3 runs in :rolleyes1 I ran one time before while we were at Riverside but they only have like a mile and a half trail, so I will be looking for another one.
The other problem is I know my legs are going to be exhausted form all of the walking through the parks so I will probably pick a day where I know we are not going to do a lot of the Park.
You never know we may pass each other on our run..LoL

We might, that would be funny. :) Come on over to SSR/DTD where there's lots of paths to run!
Unlike you, I am not an early riser. I love to sleep in as long as possible. But I will HAVE to get up and get my runs in early during the trip or they just won't happen. I'm going to put my run mornings into our trip plans...they will be just as important as going to MK!
My taper will be 2 weeks long (well, as of this moment it will, maybe it will be 3 by then. lol), so it will start after our trip. So I have to make that last week of training, while we're in WDW, decent enough! Really, I should run 3 or 4 times that week if I were being really good... But, I know myself and I think 2 runs will be all I can muster!

OK, don't get crazy...nothing is as important than going to MK :rotfl2:
